#8016 cannot upload .js files from mac Bug report normal FileZilla Client outdated

I just tried to upload my site files with Filezilla and everything uploaded correctly except my .js javascript files. I tried to research the problem online and found a lot of useless comments about the file type and ASCII or binary, but no instructions or help on actually overcoming the issue. Can I change some settings in Filezilla, i.e. change the way .js files are read, or is there some way to reformat my files before uploading?

#8020 Uploading files doesn't overwrite Bug report normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Whenever I try to replace my index.html file and attached folders and such from updated ones in my documents folder, they don't overwrite.

The overwrite window gets brought up, I always pick: "Overwrite", and it doesn't replace it because the file size stays how it was before the file transfer.

I've tried uploading it to the root folder and then moving to the public_html folder but nothing works. Actually what I've noticed is that initially when it's uploaded, for a split second, it replaces, then the file size goes back to normal.

Even removing the index.html file and going to the site in my browser still seems as though the index file is still uploaded when it's not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

#8024 Section sign (§) in password does not work for SFTP Bug report normal FileZilla Client invalid

With an account I connect to via SFTP, which has a section sign (§) in its password, I can not authenticate. If I remove just that single character from the password, it works though.

Authentication and usage works with other Client WinSCP; so it is very probably an issue of FileZilla.

#8039 Ability to edit files from Remote File Search list Bruno Ramos Patch normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

I find the remote file search very useful but also restricting. For example, I often search for error logs and having several subdomains I end up with a long list.

Invariably I want to open a file to see, and often edit its contents but I can't do so without waiting for the search to finish (or stopping the search).

Could I suggest one or more of the following in order of preference:

  1. To be able to click on a file in the list and read/edit it.
  2. For the search results form not to be a fixed dialog so that one can perform other functions whilst it is running (for example open and edit a file from the main FZ screens).
  3. Export a copy of the search results so that they can easily be referred to outside FZ (say in notebook)

#8043 Total usage Marc from Houston Feature request normal FileZilla Client fixed

Can we get a tool to count the total usage at an FTP site? I use comcast, and they limit me to 2 GB. However, they have no way to tell my my usage. So when I try to put something on their site, they truncate it to keep me below the 2GB limit. Since I maintain several folders, I cannot tell, using FileZilla, just how much storage I have used.

#8048 Support SOCKS 4 Patch normal FileZilla Client fixed

Could you re-add this functionnality ?

#8056 Upload from Local site to Remote site says permission denied Bug report normal FileZilla Client rejected
Description

Every time I tried to upload a file from the Local Site (my usb or local hard drive) to the Remote Site I have been denied access. Up until a couple months ago, this was never a problem and then one day the FileZilla client denied me access. It has been this way ever since then. I have tried downloading the client onto other computers and tried uploading from there. I am the only one who accesses FileZilla.

I checked the permissions of the remote file and when I checked the properties, the settings is on "777" but I'm still not allowed to move any local files into the remote files. Thoughts on how to proceed?

#8059 Option to disable TLS 1.0 because of possible security issue Feature request normal FileZilla Server fixed
Description

I scanned my local server with nessus and got an interesting warning:

"Synopsis: It may be possible to obtain sensitive information from the remote host with SSL/TLS-enabled services. Description: A vulnerability exists in SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 that could allow information disclosure if an attacker intercepts encrypted traffic served from an affected system. TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2, and all cipher suites that do not use CBC mode are not affected. This script tries to establish an SSL/TLS remote connection using an affected SSL version and cipher suite, and then solicits return data. If returned application data is not fragmented with an empty or one-byte record, it is likely vulnerable. OpenSSL uses empty fragments as a countermeasure unless the 'SSL_OP_DONT_INSERT_EMPTY_FRAGMENTS' option is specified when OpenSSL is initialized. Solution: Configure SSL/TLS servers to only use TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 if supported.Configure SSL/TLS servers to only support cipher suites that do not use block ciphers. Apply patches if available. See Also: http://www.openssl.org/~bodo/tls-cbc.txt http://vnhacker.blogspot.com/2011/09/beast.html http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms12-006 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2643584 http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaushal/archive/2012/01/21/fixing-the-beast.aspx "

I am not sure, if this issue is really a security issue. A possible solution should be, to disable TLS 1.0 support. I understand, that this is a compatibility problem, but perhaps you could add an option to disable it. So everybody can decide, if he wants compatibility or more security. I am running Filezilla Server Version 0.9.41 with FTP over SSL/TLS enabled.

#8088 Doesnt detect if disconnected when trying to upload Bug report normal FileZilla Client outdated
Description

Hello, i have a bug which i have to admit, is annoying me alot!

When my server disconnects me after inactivity (SFTP connection) i get the "Status: Disconnected from server" and all, but if i then click on a file or folder, such as ".." it will go to "Command: cd ".."" and not first reconnect to the server and then go to that folder.

A temporary fix is to press "Disconnect from current server" button, then press it again.

#8094 Preallocate space Underground78 Patch normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

On Windows platforms newer than WinXP besides SetFilePointer+SetEndOfFile preallocation method which fills required disk space with zeros which might take a lot of time in case of a very large file, there is another literally instant function: SetFileValidData (see MSDN), it just claims disk space leaving intact whatever data there was.

Despite common belief that fragmentation isn't an issue, it's quite the opposite - 1+GB files downloaded in such applications as FileZilla Client which doesn't preallocate disk space, are extremely slow to copy and work with when mounted and impose absolutely unnecessary huge load on HDD due to a lot of disk seeks.

Apparently only a few win32 ftp clients can preallocate space and none of them uses SetFileValidData. Out of about 20 most popular ftp clients I've tested, only Flashget and NetTransport had the feature. Actually I've searched all files on my PC and out of hundreds of small and large win32 apps that constantly deal with creation of files, large and small, only VirtualDub and uTorrent use SetFileValidData, also the latter allows user to select whether he prefers instant preallocation, complete with zeroing or none of the two.

There was a similar ticket (#1486) 7 years ago and now it's already 2012 but FileZilla Client still doesn't preallocate space.

#8107 Segmentation fault in Cinnamon 1.4 when drag and drop upload Bug report normal FileZilla Client fixed

#8108 Unintentional drag without holding down mouse button Bug report normal FileZilla Client duplicate
Description

On three occasions now I have gotten into a supposed drag state in the server tab with no intention and no cue (that I noticed) that I was in that state. The first time a whole document root and thus its site "disappeared" for a while. After finding it, I assumed I must indeed have dragged it into the adjacent folder in haste with a sloppy-slidy click or double-click, because I was rushing half an hour before a big demo.

But now I see it is possible somehow to unknowingly initiate a drag state (by sloppy click?), then scroll around for a while (many seconds) with no mouse button held, then click on a folder and Filezilla "drops" or attempts to drop the folder it thought you were dragging. At least in the server tab. I'm reluctant to experiment too much with trying to duplicate this.

I haven't been experiencing this in any other application.

It's dangerous enough that I looked all around for an option to disable dragging of files or folders in Filezilla but apparently it can't be disabled.

I really like FZ but now I'm very nervous I'll damage a site again without noticing. This third time, the only reason it didn't happen was because the folder I clicked was a subfolder of -- again -- the document root. A less obvious moved folder could go unnoticed.

#8120 Freezes on LAN download from server with connection limits Bug report normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Filezilla version: 3.5.3

I am connecting to two server over LAN. When I queue and process file downloads from both servers concurrently in a FZ client session, the client freezes and must be force-closed.

The servers are slightly unusual in that they are embedded servers in Topcon GPS receivers. The server software enforces a strict limit of one connection per receiver. I have configured this limitation in the Site Manager (Limit Number of Simultaneous Connections = 1).

If a subsequent connection is attempted, the receiver will return a 530 error message and disconnect. This behavior has been observed using Topcon NetG3A receivers as well as Topcon GB1000.

I have tried this using multiple client PCs (Asus netbooks, Dell desktops, laptops) using various operating systems from Vista to XP to Windows 7.

By contrast, if I open two separate filezilla client instances, and start a concurrent queue of downloads in each of these separate filezilla instances, the downloads work just fine. So this seems to point to some kind of race condition, or perhaps a connection isn't getting closed in the right order, when downloading within the same filezilla instance.

#8127 GnuTLS out of date. Upgrade it please to 2.12.20 or better yet to 3.0.20 Feature request normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Hi! I have FileZilla 3.5.3, and it uses GnuTLS library (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnutls/gnutls.html) to provide the secure connection. Since their where several improvements made on the GnuTLS, since 2.10.4 version (the one currently present in FileZilla 3.5.3) is it possible to upgrade to the most update 2.12.20, or to the 3.0.20 (if it doesn't brake things of course).

I request this because it seems to have problems connecting to the ftp.servage.net servers (after sending many files, like 700 of them) and seems to be something related to the GnuTLS... I'm not completely sure, but in the logs GnuTLS seems part of the problem.

#8128 Filezilla Client seems to ignore my Settings in fzdefaults.xml Bug report normal FileZilla Client worksforme
Description

After 2 days of repairing a hacking attack to some of my Internet-Domains I found out that filezilla stores my passwords in plain text by default. So I try to avoid this for future now. I found out that there is a Setting "Kiosk Mode" to control this behaviour. But when I try to set Kiosk Mode to 1 or 2 instead of 0, my Client seems to ignore this setting. I uninstalled the old version of Filezilla. I installed the current version Filezilla 3.5.3 from scratch Same behaviour.

Do you have any idea, what I could do else to make working my filezilla-client installation accepting my overridings of the default-settings (especially this hacker-friendly password-default-option) by using my fzdefaults.xml, which I located in .../Documents and Settings/<username>/Application Data/Filezilla/ ?

"Files" are files added from the left hand part of the FileZilla screen (which shows my folders and my desktop, including all the files I want to build into the website) by dragging and dropping them into the right hand part of the screen after I've chosen the specific place I want to save them (in my case, a file called "NewTest" in "Public HTML". (FileZilla doesn't give this screen a name; it's the one that has username, password, and port on the top.)

In the course of the project, we have uploaded various files from preliminary versions of the website we're building. They have served their purpose, and leaving them on the system will now cause only chaos and confusion. So they need to be deleted, and then replaced by newer files.

Now, I am working with a html/web guru who uses a Windows machine, and she deletes files from FileZilla very easily, by highlighting them and pressing the delete key.

That, however, does NOT work with my Mac (a MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.5.8) and a Safari browser. At this URL

http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12541&hilit=deleting+files

another Filezilla user reports the same problem with their Mac, and their experience is the same as my own. In fact, I ran down the same list of possibiliities and workarounds, and none of them work.

Highlighting and pressing delete does NOT delete FileZilla files with a Mac.

  1. Can you tell me how to delete files using a Mac?
  2. I will have to migrate to another company if FileZilla can't solve the problem. Of course, I'd rather not do that, but we can't work with a non-functional server.

#8136 FTPS with PASV not working from internet side. Bug report normal FileZilla Server worksforme
Description

I've set up my server to enable implicit FTPS (port 990) but the unsecure connection method is still accepted too.

When I try to connect to the server using unencrypted method, everything works fine, no matter if I'm local or internet originated. But for FTPS, it's different. From local network, everything is fine, from the internet side the connection goes as far as switching to passive (PASV) mode. From there on, connection hangs. I checked the logs on my client and believe to know the cause (but not the solution): Upon switching to PASV mode, my client is given the local IP-address instead of the real 'outside' ip-address. It is as if the server suddenly believes this connection to be on the local net and thus not send the 'real' address.

I.o.w. when using FTPS and PASV mode enabled for all but local connections, Filezilla server is still sending the local ip-address together with the port nr to use for the passive connection to an external client trying to connect. This isn't so for unsecure connections and therefore I believe this to be a bug.

#8142 Timestamps for some files are off by 7-8 minutes Bug report normal FileZilla Server fixed
Description

This issue has been discussed on the forums in several threads, but I don't think a formal bug report has ever been filed.

I don't think we know the exact cause or the exact repro steps, but sometimes Filezilla Server will report the wrong timestamp for files in the LIST reponse. The incorrect timestamp is always 7-8 minutes behind the real timestamp.

This thread in the forum has some more discussion and verification that others have hit this problem too:

http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21800

This post in particular includes some specific timestamps that trigger the issue:

#8190 Event queue processing modification to improve filezilla client resposibility Patch normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Filezilla lags really hard if operations with a lot of files are executed(like upload 100K files with skipping existing files). This happens because wxWidgets event queue gets jammed and everything gets stuck in processing pending events.

This can be fixed by supporting wxWidgets 2.9 and using QueueEvent instead of PostEvent or with fix I attached(it makes sure that only some events are processed from pending event queue in one iteration).

Thanks for your job !

#8231 Critical Error. Could Not Connect To Server Don't understand this Bug report normal FileZilla Client outdated
Description

Hi FileZilla:

I've been trying to get FileZilla (v.3.5.3) through to tripod.com in order to upload my files to my website located there (http://australianart.tripod.com/). Tripod assert, over and over, that they can ftp access my website without any problems from their end. However I cannot access my website and have been trying for over 3 weeks now without success and always with the below-listed error message:

Status: Resolving address of ftp.tripod.com Status: Connecting to 209.202.252.54:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220 Welcome to Tripod us FTP. Command: USER australianart Response: 331 Username set to australianart . Now enter your password. Command: PASS Response: 501 Please verify your Password Error: Critical error Error: Could not connect to server

I wonder if you have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I can ftp access all my other sites (around 6 of them) without any issues.

Regards, Murray Thompson (an otherwise very happy FileZilla user)

#8234 Separate download and upload queues Feature request normal FileZilla Client duplicate
Description

Problem: My use of the FileZilla client frequently consists of downloading several large files and uploading a few small files in return. Most generally the file to be uploaded is time sensitive and must occur as soon as possible.

With the current queue process as it is now and the number of simultaneous file transfers is set to a limited amount; in order to upload an unspecified amount of fiels while downloading the maximum transferable limit of files or more, I must do the following:

  1. Set the priority the the upload files higher than the download files. (Not always possible)
  2. Increase the transfer queue by the amount of files that I need to upload. (This can be an inconvenience because I have to go count all of the files to be uploaded)
  3. Once all upload file transfers have started the transfer process, I must go and revert the concurrent transfer limit to the previous value before any of the upload transfers are finished so as to not start another download transfer. (At times the uploaded files can be very small in size and that can make this step nearly impossible.)

Proposed solution: Have an option in the settings dialog that will support the ability to have separate upload and download queues and speed/count transfer limits for both.

Justification: Majority of, if not all, internet connections allow for data to be both uploaded and downloaded concurrently. I have not heard of an FTP protocol nor an ftp server side implementation that cannot handle simultaneous upload and download of data. (I'm nearly positive that the FTP protocol must talk both ways in order to function properly). Therefore upload and download transfers should be treated as separate entities as they can be operated simultaneously.

Restrictions to proposed solution: There may be a limit of concurrent connections that can be established per single user credentials to a specific FTP server. If this is the case, then it will be the user's responsibility set the transfer limits accordingly.

System details: FileZilla Client version: 3.5.3 OS: Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 (VM on top of ESXi 4.1)

#8239 control number of simultaneous file-PART(THREAD) and FILE connections Feature request normal FileZilla Client invalid
Description

Hi, Please let me ask a simple technical question. It is not a bug or problem with filezilla; It is more technical behavior of Filezilla Client and a FTP server like Filezilla Server. As the subject can goes in different ways; Please let me explain my qestion in three sub parts. I'm sure the answer is such easy for Filezilla technical guys (but much important for me).

We have two different conception is FTP conections: 1. Number of parallel connections in term of file to a server (If I'm right the maximum number of files at the same time can be define in the Server like Filzeilla-server; as well we can limit it in the client too like filezilla-client between 1 and 10)

2. Number of simultaneous connection (threads) for a file; which means during Doanload/Upload a file; the file can be seperated in N-parts (N threads)and each part be downloaded in parallel with other parts. This subject can be see in clear in FTP clients like DAP(download accelerator Plus) in loawer part of DL window; but n Filezilla can not be seen. I didn't see such definition in Filezilla client or server for clustering a file and donwloading it in parrallel. (please don't donfond this subject with parralell download/upload of sever files (in part.1)

Regarding to part.1 it is clear that both in Server and client we can define the maximum number of parralel files (number of parallel simultaneous file connection) at the same time and surely server limit overcomes the client limit)

QUESTION: Regarding to part.2,

May I know if it is Server or client (or both) that activates possiblity of slotting a file for DL/UL ? (I call that number of parallel simultaneous parts OR Thread)

Why Can not I see this value in the Filezilla client or Server ?

If it is not clear such option for the users; May i know what is written as code in filezilla Server or client or both for this subject ?

If it is automatically controlled by Client or Server as advanced feature; May I know how it is controlled and how I can limit it on a fix value ? (please don't confond it with number of parallel files) (DAP window shows such possibility, so for me it exists) (for me DOS command FTP; performs DL or UL with just 1 file at the moment and with 1 thread) (please take into account that my target is not proving that we go to highest throughput. More I want to know how it is controlled and can be set; for example if I want to do DL/UL just with 1 file in 1 thread. So the subject is just managing the session)

The plaform can be considerd windows 7, vista or XP. It seems in recent versions of Filezilla, such option doesn't exist more.

Thanks in advance for your answers and support. Best Regards,

#8256 Remote search by modified date and time Feature request normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Feature Request

It would be really wonderful to search for remote files based on the modified date and time. As a case in point, I uploaded an entire project, then change a few files on the same day. Now, a month later, it is really difficult to find these few files that were modified a few hours after the initial upload.

I can currently use remote file search to find files by the modified date, but this does not seem to take into account the modified time.

From a programming perspective, I don't think this would be very difficult to implement... It already accepts a date and time, so we just need to extend the comparison to look at the time as well as the date.

Thanks in advance for your consideration!!!

#8265 connection closed after 60seconds behind AWS ELB Bug report normal FileZilla Client rejected
Description

Hi

I have a ftp server (vsftpd) on a Amazon Web Services EC2 virtual machine in a production environment. It's behind a Load Balancer, I access it using filezilla in passive mode for datas (vsftpd is configured to give the direct ip instead of using the load balancer for datas). Data and control channel thus have different ips. I use classic ftp (no ssl or whatever).

After exactly 60 seconds of transfer (upload or download, juste big enough to last more than 60seconds) i get a "server closed connection" error, for any version of filezilla (>=3) that didnt segfault i tried. But VSFTPD never actually closed the connection...

I looked into filezilla source code, the problem seems to come around in src/engine/ftpcontrolsocket.cpp. There is a control that seems to provoke the bug in CFtpControlSocket::OnReceive... By commenting it the problem disappear

if (!read)

{

LogMessage(::Error, _("Connection closed by server")); DoClose(); <= there i commented return;

}

the transfers stall a few seconds in the end of the transfer (it might be this test purpose) but i dont lose my connexion and the file transfered is ok.

Without the ELB (using the same ip for control and data) i dont get the initial problem.

I dont think this a good fix, but it does fix the problem for me.
