#3625 "File Previously Open has changed" msg erroneously appearing closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

This bug just started in the latest version, 3.1.0, as it was not happening in any previous version.

When right clicking on a remote file and choosing the "VIEW/EDIT" file option, the file is FTP'ed correctly to my Windows XP Pro (with all latest service packs) PC and opened in my default editor of choice, UltraEdit 14.x.

Immediately and without doing anything in the editor, FileZilla starts popping up the message, "A File Previously opened has changed. {filename}. Upload this file back to the Server?"

Clicking the NO button results in the message reappearing immediately.

If I click YES, the file is uploaded back to the server, but the same message reappears moments later.

The only way to permanently clear it is to click the FINISH EDITING AND DELETE checkbox, which is undesirable most times.

Nothing with this file changed in that period of time. I have used this feature heavily with all previous versions going back one year and this never happened previously.

I have to revert back to the previous version in order to use the software. If there is any other information you need, please do not hesitate to ask.

Here is the verbose log:

#3626 Could not read from transfer socket: ECONNABORTED closed Bug report normal Other
Description

FileZilla Client Version 3.1.0 Build Date 2008-07-23 OS - Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Odd thing is the problem I am reporting worked fine with an older version of the FileZilla Version 3 Client. I just upgraded to the current build today and then encountered the error. Here are the details:

Using a predefine site Manager profile, I connected to a private z/OS (IBM Mainframe) host using secured FTP (TLS). By private host, I mean no public access for logins, my company maintains high security - no outside access (sorry). Hopefully the log will be useful. I imagine that you have very few clients that access MVS/z/OS hosts so it is probably a low priority in the scheme of things.

As one can see in the log, the TLS authentication worked fine. The error is encountered when the client receives back the directory listing of the default host directory. The directory list does come back to the client and looks correct in the log. The log then shows "Trace: GnuTLS error -9: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received." then the "Could not read from transfer socket: ECONNABORTED" message.

Here is the complete log:

#3627 Filezilla does not handle low diskspace conditions correctly closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

OS: Windows XP SP2 Filezilla version: 3.1.0

  • steps to reproduce:
  • download one or more files exceeding the available disk space
  • actual result:
  • Filezilla logs the transfer failure in its log pane (Error: error while writing local file)
  • the incomplete file(s) are left in the directory
  • the transfers do not show up under failed transfers
  • expected result:
  • the transfers are added to the failed transfers pane
  • no remnants of the incomplete file remain in the target directory (in general I would appreciate a more atomic approach to Filezilla's transfers, e.g. first download to a temporary directory, move to final destination after successful transfer).

I can connect to my website via MicroSoft FrontPage, so the server is working and connecting.

#3635 Uploaded file truncated when using FTP over SOCKS closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

I'm encountering an issue with Filezilla 3.1.0.1 on Windows XP.(I encounter exactly same problem with FileZilla 2.2.25 since months/years)

When i try to upload files thanks to FTP using Socks proxy, some of files are truncated. If i reupload the same file just after the first upload we can see the file size difference (see screenshot). An other point is that just after upload the size of file on remote server in filezilla seems correct, but after a refresh (F5) the this is the real size (trucated file size).

Original file is: http://maubeuge2008.org/testseb/pbftp/10031_ff2-good.jpg Uploaded file is: http://maubeuge2008.org/testseb/pbftp/10031_ff2.jpg

It seems very similar to closed bug id #1662435. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1662435&group_id=21558&atid=887596

Thanks & Regards

Not a good thing. However, old filezilla version was OK. Sorry I upgraded!

#3644 Invalid directory listing cache after rename closed Bug report normal Other
Description

When a remote directory containing files is renamed, followed by the creation of a new directory having the original name of the renamed directory, the remote file list pane incorrectly displays the contents of the renamed directory as the contents of the newly created directory.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Begin with directory "d" containing files/subdirectories. Be sure to select "d" in the remote tree to display listing in the remote list pane.
  1. Rename "d" to "d_".
  1. At the same level as "d_", create directory "d".
  1. Select new directory "d" in the remote tree pane. The listing will not be retrieved from the server, and the remote list pane will display the previously cached contents of "d_".

Using the Refresh function obviously corrects the problem.

#3645 Directory listing failed closed Bug report normal Other
Description

Using 3.1.0.1 on XP SP3, when I connect to ATT (worldnet) server, I get "directory listing failed" on the remote site. It appears that I am connected to the server,

Reverting to 3.0.11.1, everything works correctly.

This problem happens with three different ATT accounts and has persisted for three days.

I am able to connect correctly with another provider's server.

#3646 Directory listing does not show all hidden files. closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

The "Force showing hidden files" option does not fully work. The command for the command only uses the "LIST -a" command to show the files, but using the "LIST -al" command manually, I was able to see all the hidden files. Not being able to see all the hidden files also causes issues when needing to delete directories and the system cannot do so since there are still hidden files under the directories.

#3653 toggle transfer queue doesn't work properly closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm using win xp sp2, filezilla 3.1.0.1

If I turn off queue processing then add a folder to the queue, the queue begins to process. When I then turn it off again, once a subfolder is encountered the queue again begins to process.

If I turn off queue processing it should stay off until I turn it on again, this is a bug. This was also a problem with the previous version.

The reason I want to turn off queue processing is so that I can remove files or directories from the queue that I don't want to be processed.

Filezilla is otherwise excellent software, keep up the good work.

Thanks

#3654 A file...has been changed: upload? no. still does! closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I am finding random files in my web directories, and I found a problem.

When I download a file, open it, edit it, and hit "save", the following prompt shows up:

A file previously opened has been changed: C:\Documents and Settings\FRANKF\My Documents\website\new_site\public_html\style\layoutFluid.css Upload this file to server?

(There is also a check box for "continue editing" which I leave unchecked)

I will click “no” and the file will uploads anyway to a random directory (not even the one that I originally downloaded the file from)

The last time it happened it was in a folder called "dev" and it uploaded to a subfolder (under dev) called "downloads". The time before I downloaded and edited a file from "style" and when I clicked "no" it uploaded to "testcart" (both directories on the same level)

I am using FileZilla Version 3.1.0.1 – most recent version at this time.

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Operating System Version 5.1.2600

This is a bit scarry, because I am not sure if any "index" files or other files that have the same name in different directories might be overwritten when this happens.

#3656 Could not read from transfer socket: ECONNABORTED closed Alexander Schuch Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

After upgrading to the latest verions of FileZilla, 3.1.0.1, previously configured connections now fail, with the following errors:

Error: Could not read from transfer socket: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

This worked as recently as build 3.0.11.1 version.

We connect via servertype 'FTPS-FTP over implicit TLS/SSL', not specifying a port in the connection details.

What has changed in the Filezilla version which no longer allows this connection.

I'll be reverting back to an older release until we're able to resolve this issue.

#3657 Switching back to English language only partially successful closed Alexander Schuch Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Just installed 3.1.0.1. Disappointed to have my language set to Dutch automatically, I switched back to English via settings, but this is only the case for the menu and not for the names used in the file list panels and the bottom panel and the tabs used in this bottom panel.

I'm always annoyed when a install program decides form me that I should use some other language than English. Although I'm Dutch I don't like the translated menus (much to long in my native language) and I always use the English versions of software on my PC.

Anyway I like this soft a lot... Keep up the good work.

Regards, Peter

#3658 Site list alphabetical order fails closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have about 100 sites in Filezilla, some in folders, some not. When I view them in site manager they are in perfect alphabetical order. When I drop down the site list for quick connection they are not alphabetical. I'll attach a screenshot with full site names covered up for privacy.

#3662 Shortcuts (maybe also Sym-Links) are not handled properly closed Bug report normal Other
Description

FileZilla version: 3.1.0.1 O/S: Windows Version 5.1 XP Pro, SP2

Double-clicking on a subdirectory contained in the Current Directory panel, or displayed in an expanded directory in the Directory-Tree panel, makes it the new current directory.

So far, so good.

But: A shortcut (presumably also a sym-link?) that points to a directory is not displayed when its containing directory is expanded in the Directory-Tree panel. It does appear in the Current-Directory panel, but double-clicking on it does not change-directory to the target; instead, an attempt is made to up/down-load the shortcut file itself, literally.

Now, I realize sometimes it might be desirable sometimes to transfer a shortcut literally, but that decision should be at the option of the user.

(1) Directory-shortcuts should appear in the Directory-Tree just like subdirectories. Double-clicking on one should change-directory to the target, just like a subdirectory.

(2) Menu-clicking on a directory-shortcut in the Current-Directory panel should open a menu that includes an option to "Resolve / Follow / Go-To Target of" (wording optional) the link.

(3) Edit->Settings->Interfaces should have a category-box for Directory-Shortcuts, with options to "Always Follow", "Transfer Literally" and "Ask every time" as the default.

(4) If the "Always Follow" option is in effect, the detail information shown in the Current-Directory panel should be that of the Target.

(5) When a directory-shortcut in the Current-Directory panel is double-clicked, or a Transfer Queue containing a directory-shortcut is processed, and the "Ask every time" option is in effect, a requestor should be raised asking whether to transfer the link literally or transfer the contents of its target. If the Queue contains more than one, the requestor should include an answer option for "All in the Queue".

Similarly, when a shortcut (presumably also a sym-link?) that points to a file is double-clicked or is being processed in a Transfer Queue, it is automatically transferred literally, as a shortcut. That decision, too, should be at the option of the user.

(6) Menu-clicking on a file-shortcut in the Current-Directory panel should open a menu that includes the options: "Upload Literally" and "Upload Target".

(7) Edit->Settings->Transfers should have a sub-category for File-Shortcuts, with options to "Transfer Target", "Transfer Literally" and "Ask every time" as the default.

(8) If the "Always Follow" option is in effect, the detail-information shown in the Current-Directory panel should be that of the Target.

(9) If the "Ask every time" option is in effect, when a file-shortcut in the Current-Directory panel is double-clicked or is being processed in a Transfer Queue, a requestor should be raised asking whether to transfer the link literally or transfer its target. If the Queue contains more than one file-shortcut, the requestor should include an answer option for "All in the Queue". The difference between this and #(5) is that #(5) will process the target-directory and all the files it contains, even acting recursively for shortcuts contained within the target-directory, and this only processes a single file.

Thank you for an excellent software tool, and let's keep up the good work.

Description

Version: 3.1.0.1 OS: Windows Vista Business SP1 (x64)

I used to enter example.com:1234 and it worked well in previous versions (3.0.x or something). However since I updated to 3.1.0.1, filezilla still writes the number behind the colon into the port field, but writes "[example.com:1234]" into the server field (instead of writing "example.com"). This results in a

#3664 Increasing CPU occupancy until 99% closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Uploading a large 3GB data file, filezilla starts with nominal CPU usage. However, the CPU occupancy continually increases during file transfer. After about 5 minutes of transferring the CPU occupancy is about 80% and after approximately 10 minutes it is at 98%. Log files attached. Unfortunately, I was not able to capture the console output when it was at 98% as filezilla was no longer responding.

#3665 Server Does Not Enforce Login Attempt Limit with SSL closed Bug report normal Other
Description

I have autoban enabled for 5 failed login attempts. I also "Force SSL for user login".

The autoban never fires because, I assume, users attempting login get the return error stating that SSL is required and the attempt is not counted into the autoban limit.

This situation results in daily logs of up to 3MB in size due to repeated brute force attempts at login. It appears as if there is a program that kiddie hax0rs all over the world have available. I add address masks to the IP Filter as attempts are made, but new kiddies keep trying. I've filtered out most of China by now. Please see the attachedf log exerpt.

Error "DDE execute request failed: a request for a synchronous execute transaction has timed out." when I right click a file in the remote site window and select "View/Edit". Screenshot of error dialog attached.

My editor is Textpad 5.2.0 32-bit on Windows XP Professional. Textpad is installed in its default location.

The file still loads in textpad, I can edit it, and I can save it, and it will successfully upload the changes back to the remote site prompting appropriately whether I should replace the existing file. So the View/Edit still works fine with a minor interruption from this alert.

So, in priority terms, I'd classify this as low priority with a successful workaround in place. However, it's a darn annoying error which steals focus and requires me to click Ok before proceeding to the task at hand. Do with that what you will, and good luck!

#3672 Rough Italian translation closed Tim Kosse Bug report normal Other
Description

After my previous post on that same topic, I found things improved, but not to an acceptable level yet. In the modal dialog where overwriting options are listed, we read in Italian:

  1. "Sovrascrivi" <-> "Overwrite"
  2. "Sovrascrivi se più recente" <-> "Overwrite if more recent" ;
  3. "Sovrascrivi se dimensione differente" <-> "Overwrite if different size" ;
  4. "Sovrascrivi se dimensione differente o più recente" <-> "Overwrite if different size or time" ;

I tried to gave the correspondent English forms. While 4. might sound good in English, it is rough in Italian, where one might understand that the dimension might be different or the dimension (again!) is more recent.

In order to avoid ambiguities, I suggest what follows then:

  1. "Sovrascrivi" <-> "Overwrite";
  2. "Sovrascrivi se file é più recente";
  3. "Sovrascrivi se dimensione é differente";
  4. "Sovrascrivi se dimensione differente o file più recente";

Thanks for patience,

Alessandro Rosa

#3673 Auto-upgrader does not close all instances of Filezilla closed Bug report normal Other
Description

The auto-upgrader from Windows 3.1.0.1 to 3.1.1.1 attempted to close running instances of Filezilla to complete the install. It closed one but I had multiple instances open so it failed and I had to manually close the others to continue the install.

#3674 Does not re-open after upgrading closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla does not re-open itself after auto-upgrading. I opened the app to work in it, so why, after upgrading, wouldn't it re-open itself (i.e. return me to the state I was in before it did its thing)? Thanks, Atg

#3676 Typos in English version closed Bug report normal Other
Description

I'm revising the Italian translation. And I forwarded my revised file to the Italian translator. By the way, I found typos along the following entries in the English form:

  • "If you sucessfully complete the wizard and the final test succeeds, any firewalls and routers you have should be configured properly." -> successfully
  • "Hold the shift key to toggle the filter state on both sides simultanously" -> simultaneously
  • "If using timestamp based comparison, consider two files equal if their timestamp differerence does not exceed this threshold." -> difference
  • "Malformed reply, server not sending proper lineendings" -> line endings
  • "Server does not support resume of files > %d GB. End transfer since filesizes match." -> file sizes
  • "Updatecheck failed" -> Updates check
  • "Waiting for transfer to be canceled" -> cancelled
  • "Wrong lineendings" -> line endings
  • "You likely have a router or firewall which errorneously modified the transferred data." -> erroneously

#3679 file transfer failed but noted as successfull closed Bug report normal Other
Description

I connected with FileZilla client to a SSHD on Ubuntu. I transfered a large file to the server and FileZilla finished the transfer "successfull". On the server I found out that the harddisk was full and the file did not fit so that just a part of it was transfered. In such cases the transfer should not be noted as "successfull"!

I retried this setup several times but the behavior was every time identical.

Vista, V 3.1.1.1

When I copy files from local to remote, the file size of the file on the server is the same as the original.

HOWEVER, if I go View -> refresh, the size is always different. e.g.

local ==> remote 6,190 ==> 6,117 5,881 ==> 5,807 5,872 ==> 5,789 5,975 ==> 5,901

#3697 Wrong/Unwanted driver information closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Brief setup explanation:

On my web development setup, I have a server where all my work files are stored. Each project is its own folder in this server, and each folder is shared independently (the Projects folder isn´t shared).

Then, on my machine (Windows XP SP2) I map these shared folders into VIRTUAL DRIVERS. This way, all my projects appear to be in HDs, whereas they are actually shared folders on a network.

I can then LABEL these drivers (just like I can RENAME a real driver). All the drivers share the same REAL NAME (the server´s name), but Windows allows me to label (not rename, just label) them differently so I name each of them after the PROJECT NAME.

FileZilla displays the DRIVER NAME (server´s name) instead of the DRIVER LABEL. So all my 13 virtual drivers are named the same in FZ, and I have to rely on Driver Letter to figure out which one is the one I need at the moment!

Soooooo easy to fix!

I was using an eval version of SmartFTP, and that little software gets the virtual driver label correctly, so a solution is attainable.

FileZilla is the closest thing to SmartFTP in usability, and I see a LOT of potential in it! I would also like to participate in the development.

Hello,

I've always had the problem described in Ticket #3126 when connecting to ftpperso.free.fr. Contrary to what's written in ticket #3126, the problem is not fixed in recent versions of FileZilla. Worse still, this causes numerous timeouts, and/or disconnections from that server (Which hosts all user home pages of the most popular ISP in France). This is really annoying to have to click the [R] button to reconnect every time.

#3707 Process Queue having no effect closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When trying to set up a file transfer, from a remote host to my machine, I wanted to queue up all the files before transferring the lot. However, when I clicked the process queue button on the toolbar, or right clicked a file to untick process queue, I found that neither action had any effect (the button was still depressed, and the tick was still present), and the files kept transferring. Sometimes either action does have an effect, but only to stop the current transfers (the process queue button switches off), whereupon files further down the transfer list are started, and process queue button/tick box enabled again.

I'm using FileZilla 3.1.1.1, running on XP SP3.

Thanks for your help -- if you need any further information from me please let me know.

Any Idea whats wrong?

#3716 Support "Manual Transfers" closed Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Would it be possible to add "Manual Transfer" support into Filezilla 3. At present I'm still using Filezilla 2 solely to have access to this feature, found under "Transfer|Manual Transfer.." . The reason is I regularly have to download files from a partners system, however they have disabled Listings, you have to manually type in the directories and files you want to download. These tend to be large and hence the queueing and resume capabilities of Filezilla still help.

#3718 Resume on Large File causes APPCRASH in Vista closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Using version 3.1.1.1 on Windows Vista Ultimate

Attempting to download very large file (about 7GB). First attempt failed at about 2GB. When attempt to download again, system detects existing file and prompts for action. Tried twice to use the "Resume" option and both times, the software crashed and would not recover without help. I had to close the program both times.

Choosing "Overwrite" seems to work fine. If it does not get past the 2GB threshold, I will update the ticket.

#3720 Crash on corrupt quickconnectbar.xrc closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

In the quickconnectbar.xrc file:

  • if the IP element is hidden (ID_QUICKCONNECT_HOST), there is no problem. The default IP or the IP specified in command line is well used.
  • if the Port element is hidden (ID_QUICKCONNECT_PORT), the application craches! I need to hide the 2 elements and I don't understand why we don't have the same behavior. Is it possible to fix this problem please?

Thank you for your support.

#3723 Define standard applications to OPEN files of certain types new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

For editing files you can define a standard editor. I would like to have that for viewing files as well. Didn´t find something like that in the existing tickets.

Background:

When I select "open" in the context menu of a text file (txt, log, dat, js, ...) on the local side always the Windows recommended/standard application is used to open this file even if there is a different application assigned in the Windows explorer file type options (Notepad2 in most cases).

Example: *.log

If you look that type up in Tools/Folder Options/File Types of the Windows explorer, you will find that the type shall be opened using Notepad2 which works on double clicks in the windows explorer. If you click on "Change", you probably see that the Windows Notepad is selected as default editor. This one is then used by FileZilla for some reason. But I want FileZilla to use Notepad2 as well (which is also defined as standard editor for editing files in my environment).

Other file types like *.js or *.html or *.bat could also require a different handler - especially html files shall not be opened in a browser but in a text editor when I try to open it from FileZilla - mostly I do not want to view but edit them before uploading it again, for instance to remove a typo.

If my writing not clear enough, please come back to me ;)

Best regards, Kristian

#3726 Custom filetype associations not working closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Custom filetype associations are not working.

Filezilla is using the Default filetype associations even though "Use filetype associations if available" has been selected in Settings dialogue box

These are the entries in the "custom filetype associations" edit box: doc "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe" xls "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\excel.exe" ppt "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\powerpnt.exe" txt "C:\Program Files\xint\xint.exe" jpg "C:\Program Files\IrfanView\I_View32.exe"

however when I use the context menu (right button menu) to open a file in the local site: file window of Filezilla, the system default filetype associations are used eg a file of type .txt is opened in Notepad.exe instead of xint.exe. BTW xint does not require any parameters and this feature worked fine on a previous version of filezilla (sorry - can't recall which).

I am using a Toshiba Satellite PSPAGA-014001 C2D 2.16G 2G 200G.

thanks for your help.

#3727 Often freezes when downloading updates closed Tim Kosse Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When updating via Help->Check for updates..., FileZilla attempts to connect to a URL to download the new version, but the progress bar stays empty and FileZilla freezes and the dialog gets "(Not responding)". Killing the FileZilla process and retrying eventually works, but not necessarily on the second try.

Seems like FileZilla might be handling update-download connection failures poorly.

Versions: 3.1.1 and 3.1.1.1 (Not 3.1.2 since there hasn't been an update to download with it yet.)

Sorry I don't have any further details. Hoping someone else has experienced the same problem and can add info.

#3732 Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing -- files on server do not appear with 3.1.2 closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I just upgraded to FileZilla Client 3.1.2 and immediately received the error mentioned in my Subject Line. The result was that I could not open the Directory listed on my server's window (there was no + next to it). Furthermore, if I clicked on the - on the parent directory, it closed the sub-directory (as it should), but would not put a + on that one, so I could not navigate back down. My server is fine, as I could access it through an older version of FileZilla that I have on my laptop. I tried to reboot, and also to reinstall, and nothing worked. Please advise ASAP, as I need to use FileZilla on this machine. I have never experienced this problem, and all that I did was upgrade to 3.1.2. Also, none of the files any of the directories show in the bottom right pane.

#3742 Edit option grayed out in local context menu closed Bug report normal FileZilla Client

FileZilla Client Version 3.1.2 Build date: 2008-08-30

Context menu to "Edit" a file on the local site window is grayed out if not connected to a remote site. "Open" works but doesn't use the defined editor. Once connected to a remote site the Local Site Window "Edit" option becomes available.

I noticed this right away when I first upgraded from version 2. This bug previously reported 5 weeks ago as ticket #3637 "Edit option not available" and closed by sf-robot. That ticket stated: "This problem began when I updated from 3.0.11.0."

I use FileZilla to transfer files between computers on my network. I used to have a problem with it only transferring files at 10mbps, then one version the bug was fixed, and now the bug is back again. I don't know how many versions back it was reintroduced.

It happens both with ftp and sftp transfers now. I think before it only happened with sftp tranfers. I know it isn't my network because I can transfer files using scp at the full 100mbps.
