FireFTP has the feature to "Keep directories in sync while navigating". I really mis this in FileZilla. What this does is simply - when opening a folder- open the corresponding folder on the other side. i.e: you click on the folder images in the local root, and the remote switches to it's images folder. That saves you browsing to your desired folder twice.

enable the sitemanager to store its sites in an ldap server to make it possible to work with the same sites at home, in office, on the road...

I miss the option "Start filezilla server with windows" as a checkbutton to be enabled or disabled in preferences. Is annoying that now I want to disable filezilla server at windows startup and the only way I know is to uninstall it. Users shouldn´t be supposed to know what the windows registry, msconfig or services.msc is.

On problematic file transfers, I often see files with zero or different file sizes on the server compared to those on my local machine.

I'd like to see a transfer setting of "Overwrite if Newer or Different Size".

I'd like the option to associate a local directory with a server directory, and have that association maintained automatically by the FileZilla client.

For example, I could associate my local directory "W:\web\foo\root" with the server directory "/user1234/main". Then, when I change my local directory to "W:\web\foo\root\src\frotz", the server directory would automatically switch to "/user1234/main/src/frotz" as well.

For this option to be complete, the pairing could be either recursive or non-recursive.

Deeper (more specific) associations should override shallower associations. For example:

C:\a\b\q ==> /x/y/q C:\a\b\q\r\s ==> /x/y/z/s

would define a set of pairings such that the s directory pairing would override the pairing that would otherwise have been specified in the first line.

Of course, for a simpler first implementation, having a single recursive association per site would be sufficient for 99.9% of the cases.

I would like to be able to set the auto-ban to permanently ban any IP who attempts to use a username, password or combination of username and password from set lists. I have almost daily attempts on my FTP from people attempting to log in as administrator with passwords such as passwd, password, 12345, 123abc, etc. I want to be able to set the auto-ban to permanently ban any IP which attempts to log on as administrator, an account which does not exist on my FTP, or attempts to log on with any account using a common password. It should, first, check to see if it is a valid account and password and, if not, automatically ban after a set number (I would set this to 1) of failures.

I would also like to be able to ban any user who attempts to change to certain or nonexistent directories. If I allow anonymous access I inevitably get the 'script kiddies' who all run the same program to try to change to the commonly hackable directories, none of which are accessible on my FTP. I would like to be able to set the auto-ban to permanently ban anyone who tries to change the directory to any in a set list or anyone who attempts to change to a directory which does not exist on a certain number (again, I would set this to 1) of attempts.

For a future concern, rather than simply disconnect IP addresses for those who have been auto-banned, letting them know they have been auto-banned, you may allow them to continue entering usernames and passwords until their heart's content, just stop accepting them after they have been banned. This would give them no clue they have been banned and no clue how many attempts they got before being banned, which would give them no help in coordinating a distributed brute force attack with a bot net.

Would be nice, if I could copy all items of the "failed downloads"-list to the clipboard by one click. So I could paste it into an email to the person/company, who provides the files I want to download. I currently have the problem, that the server of a company has problems with long filenames, spaces and umlauts. With the feature I could easily send them all the files they have to rename.

This is to request for Filezilla3 a Tango-ified icon set. I noticed that FZ3 will support different sizes for the icons which is awesome. Now I'd like them to be Tango-based for better integration with the Linux desktops (both Gnome and KDE).

As a suggestion, I feel sure if a simple contest is set up for this there will be hundreds of responses. After all FZ is by far one of the most popular projects in FZ.

I'm using FZ3 Beta 11, which appart from the icons, seems to be pretty much feature complete.

Some FTP Sites have connectivity problem, and constantly get the timeout message. It is realy anoying when uploading.

There coud be setting for each site that if it is checked (FTP Has Connectivity Problem), It woud ignore retries setting, and constantly tried to connect until specific operation is finished

The Site Manager integrated of the filezilla client, like CuteFTP.

It could be nice if you can integrate the dragging. Example : I have a .php file. It could be nice if I can drag the .php into notepad++ and notepad++ open it like in Windows Explore.

Hi! Sometimes there is a situation then local filenames encoding and remote filenames encoding are not equal. For example, in my windows workstation local filenames encoding is cp1251 (i use fat32), but on server filenames encoding is koi8 (old version of linux, tuned to use koi8-r filename encoding). And when i connect to such server and there are filenames with national characters - i get unreadable filenames in panel. Can you add combobox with list of encodings (and with wich user can change remote encoding) to "Site Manager" dialog window? Thank you.

Usually under linux folders beginning with dot (ex: .gimp) under the home directory ae not shown in the folder explorer. It's a standard behaviour and it's also annoying to browse folders filled with dot-folders. Please add this 'feature' in filezilla client v3. Thank you

I have about 200 different FTP sites that I used over the span of every few weeks. Some are just listed under 'My Sites', whereas some are listed within specific folders.

With all of the entries within this window, the size in FZ3 is much smaller and is much more cramped making the use of FZ3 uncomfortable.

The way that I would fix this is make the Site Manager overall window bigger and dedicate more horizontal space to the Select Entry area.

It should be nice to have a script language. You can add commands in a textfile and run it trough the commandline. e.g.: filezilla -x myfirstcomandfile.txt

I'd like to request this same feature for the FileZilla client software. I'm creating this ticket because I was unable to locate a similar request for the client software.

Frequently I'm uploading directory trees and I don't want to upload 'meta-files' like 'Thumbs.db' or in my specific case '.svn' folders or their contents. I use TortoiseSVN to interface with subversion repos and I end up getting write protected files in directory trees on servers which I do not have root access to. Then, I can't delete the '.svn' folder / recursive files without contacting the administrator(s). Surely this would help more than just Jan and I.

I need to display hidden files in both 'panes' because .htaccess files are hidden on the server and I'm frequently modifying or reading them. Sometimes I don't have shell access and I need to download them to my local disk.

I would expect to see such a feature in the 'settings' window under 'Local file list' and maybe 'Remote file list' as well.

Webcam (for examble Axis-Webcams) upload a tempfile. When the Upload is finished the Cam send a rename-command to the correct Filename. So the Picture of the Webcam can by reached every time.

The FileZilla Server don't allow to rename to an exist filename. I need a option to allow this.

Past versions had a view/edit function in the FTP window when you right clicked on the file (MIME). The exectuted the associated program on the client computer which then could be edited. That was a huge benefit to the program please put it back in.

I want the ability to have an upload folder that when someone attempts to list anything in their, it will show as empty. Even though their could be files and directories already their, it should not show up when a list is performed. The user should be able to upload to this folder as well but can't see that the file they upload. Here is an example:

/ Can see the list of files/directories in here including upload. /upload/ Can't list anything in here unless they know the name of it. But when they do try to list, it doesn't give the ftp client a permission denied message, just shows nothing. /upload/test/ Can see everything and any directories in it but can't upload anything.

I've tried setting files to be write and not read with no list permissions, and even just write and no list permissions can still can't accomplish what I want to do.

I need to see an option in the program settings that would allow the ability to keep a files current date/timestamp upon transfer (either uploading or downloading).

Currently when files are transfered, the files are given the date/timestamp of the moment the transfer takes place. Knowing when a file was originally received is critical in many tasks.

I can see too many files when I connect to my linux sftp server using by Filezilla3 rc1. Because there are files start with dot(for example, .bashrc). It means, as you know, hidden files. In most cases, there is no need to show hidden file I think. So, please add option to control show/hide hidden files or filter option to control what kind of files to be shown.

Is it possible to alter the "SYST" reply so that it doesn't report to the client that the server is FileZilla?

An example of the returned string can be: 215 UNIX Type: L8

Reason for asking is to enhance security - to make it harder to figure out what the server is.

I will start out by saying, I really like FileZilla, It is the best linux ftp I have found, It is really fast and seems to keep the ftp connection alive.

The feature I think would be handy would be if you press a key, it jumps to the first file starting with that letter. ex: f jumps to file.php, etc. Simular to Nautilus

FileZilla would be a lot more useful if there was an option to maintain the modification time/date stamp when downloading files. They currently get the time and date of the download, not the same time/date they have on the server, which makes it hard for versioning.

IMHO, this option should be checked by default.

Like in the freeware program 2xExplorer, while the "Mirror browsing" feature is enabled, when i change folder in a panel the other panel try to go to a folder with the same name. It will be nice if when i select a file the panel the other panel scroll to the same file.

When you are browsing a long list of files and you know the one you want, it is helpful to be able to type the first few letters of the file in the focused window and have the first matching file automatically scrolled-to and highlighted.

This should also be possible with FileZilla.

In the last version I used (v2.x I think) there was a file menu option to enable/disable multiple connections. It looks like this disappeared in favor of a simpler interface in 3.x but I would like to explain why it is an important feature:

When I want to quickly transfer 1-3 text files under 10kb, I want to do so QUICKLY. I have noticed in my case having to wait for 3 new connections to be established with the server is MUCH SLOWER than just transferring these files one-by-one using the same connection.

Conversely, when I know I need to download a directory full of hundreds to thousands of these tiny files, it is fastest to do so with multiple connections.

I would like to be able to toggle multiple connections using a toolbar button, if possible in this v3.x.

I have my interface set up like so:

Edit > Settings > Interface > Layout > Layout of file and directory panes: "Widescreen"

With the following panes visible:

• message log
• local file listing (mandatory)
• remote directory tree
• remote file listing (mandatory)
• transfer queue

Whenever I adjust the widths of the three panels in the middle (local file listing, remote directory tree, and remote file listing) and then maximize/restore the window, the sizes get screwed up--especially on the remote directory tree.

I would like the width of each panel to be remembered as a percentage of the total width of the entire FileZilla window (e.g. left to right: local file listing 50%, remote directory tree 15%, and remote file listing 35%) and remain this way regardless of how I resize the main application to fit within my Desktop.

I think that would be nicer than whatever it's doing now.

Please see SmartFTP for an example of an FTP client that implements the XCRC (transfer with CRC) command.

FileZilla Client should implement XCRC or an equivalently reliable, automatic, and easy-to-use method to guarantee that a file was indeed transferred correctly between the FTP server and the client.

Requirements for this feature request to be considered resolved:

1. The feature should be on by default and used automatically whenever connected to a server supporting it.

2. The client should visually warn the user when they are connected to a server that does not support the integrity checking so they can be aware and make other arrangements for verifying the integrity of their transfers with the server.

3. The user shouldn't have to understand anything about hashing algorithms or tools, or configure anything extra, or install any extra plug-ins, for this feature to work. It should be a built-in, automatic, silent part of the existing FileZilla user experience.

4. The protocol/command/method used must adhere to a published open standard. If no such adequate standard already exists, one should be created and published by the FileZilla developers.

5. The integrity checking should work on any kind of file, any size of file, and play well with existing feature such as resume of interrupted transfers.

We have customers who post artwork files to our web server.

What I would like is to have a feature in Filezilla that would check the directory at specified intervals for new files, and then download them.

Addittionaly I would like it to be able to leave the files on the server for a specified amount of time, and once the time has expired, delete the files.

And lastly I would like to be able to make certain files in the directory exempt from deletion.

It was mentioned that the capability to do this is indeed located in the filezilla server source, but is not implemented. However I think having the ability to assign users to more than one group within the server interface would be a very handy capability and streamline the process of setting the server up for those of us with complex directory structures or users that need specific access for short periods of time to other groups.

Please, please, please, do not change automatically from tab 'Queued files' to tab 'Successful transfers' every time a transfer is completed. I would like to see the progress of the remaining files without making click repetitively... :P

This feature request is for allowing the Filezilla client to delete non-empty directories. Some FTP servers allow this with the use of the -r (recursive) option with the rm command.

This can be introduced in the Filezilla client as a option feature (which can be turned on by the user as required).

Command-line arguments for FileZilla Client would really be useful. It seems it would be a very easy straightforward feature to program (transferring from version 2). Is it not installed because FileZilla 3 is multi-platform? Is FileZilla written in C++? Is there anyway I can help put this feature in place?

When making a connection that has no local directory specified (e.g. quick connections), it would be very useful to have an option for FZ3 to open either (1) a user-specified default directory (e.g. user's desktop) or (2) use the previously used local directory. FZ3 currently defaults to the last used directory, but this isn't necessarily the most preferable.

Filezilla 3.0 gives no apparent notification of a skipped transfer when the setting to automatically over write older files is in effect and the target file is newer. A flag or other indication of non-transfer is appropriate here instead of recording the action as a successful transfer.

If possible, just showing the word "skipped" in the queue would make the picture much clearer. Such a tweak would make this excellent utility even better.

Each time a skipped transfer occurs the successful transfer count goes up even though no transfer occurred.

The ability to rearrange sites via drag and drop is intuitive and would be greatly appreciated.

When connected to a server, nowhere shows the name of the connection or FTP address. This is frustrating when (like me) you have more than 50 FTP sites set up and need to know which one you are connected to easily.

Please put the current connection name in a title bar or somewhere easily visible.

Double-clicking a file always transfers the file, where, if I'm not mistaken, in FZ 2.x the behavior was configurable to either:

1) Do nothing 2) Transfer the file 3) Open/view the file 4) Add file to queue

This would help those users that are so used to double-clicking a file to open/edit (like myself) and prevent accidental up/downloads.

I would hope that this feature would be re-implemented so that we can configure local and remote behavior separately. For instance, double-click on local does nothing, where double-click on remote opens/views the file.

Hey, I'm using Filezilla 3.0.0 on openSUSE 10.2, and I noticed that the browser shows hidden files on Linux like ~/.kde and so on. It would be nice if these was hidden as standard. But it would also be nice if it was possible to choose to show them, but not just as standard.

Hi, i've unistalled filezilla client 2.32 and installed the version 3.0 some days ago and everything is really ok..

But there is a mistake in the new one..there isn't the button "minimize to system tray" near the other button in the high corner right!..It was really useful! Is possible put it again on the bar?

Another question.. Is possible add the total download/upload speed transfer in the window that appear on the icon that will be in the system tray? (look the attached file).

Using Vista & Filezilla 3.0.0 it does not display which Site you are connected to. When using with multiple site it can be confusing. This could be a tick on the Site Manager dropdown against the last connected server, or displayed in the outer window title.

It would be very nice to have Filezilla 3 refresh the target directory display when the transfer completes.

Filezilla 2 does this now, and it is not clear why this useful feature was dropped.

Cannot navigate to a folder/file by typing its name.

To see what I mean open windows explorer, select an item in the listview or the treeview and start typing the name of a file or subfolder present in the current directory.

Since FileZilla wokrs with sftp it would be a very needed feature like ssh public key authorization. Lots of companies use this authorization method because of it's ease of use and security (there's no way loosing a password). And when companies use this method thay are forbiding password authorization method, so there's no way using FileZilla. FileZilla could implement this by providing a button "browse" in it's site manager instead of or near the "password:" line while "servertype:" is selected as "SFTP".

The new filesize format feature is great, especially the "Use thousands separator" which I have turned on with the "Display size in bytes" option. The file sizes display with the thousands separator very nicely in the local view and remote view and also the size column of the Queue window. However in the queue window the progress line does not use the thousands separator as I would have expected. This is the file size that comes after the time elapsed, time left, and percent progress bar. If this size could have the separators too that would be fantastic!

Now that we can drag files directly from our drives/desktop into the remote site window, it would be nice if we did not have to display the "local site" window. Local site has become unnecessary clutter. (at least for some of us)

Let me change the Path to the XML option files. It's ok that FileZilla stores the settings in "Program Files\" on Vista. But for all others, who want to carry their FileZilla Client on a USB stick or an extern harddisk, it isn't very useful. Please insert an option to the FZ installation, to let the user decide, whether the options are stored in the install directory, ore not.

I'm used to CuteHTML... there is a view and execute function that I use to read text logs and such - but remotely - I can click view file, it downloads into a temp "folder", and opens in my favorite editor... very handy

Didn't find this, sorry if it is listed.

A qued download list going to one local sub directory. The directory doesn't remember to change to it in the directory view. Alhough the files do download into it, thankfully.

I have no log file, neither anywhere in the programme. Is there anything about a log file activate/deactivate or log file location. No where no even in the manager, more so no even in the options. I would like it available to log connections as needed from a chosen log location. I see this as a bug not a request,as all ftp clients have logging available.

I would like to request a feature for Upload and Download Ratios. So that you can define the MBs a User have to upload before he can download. Defined by User and/or Session.

Two useful features are already done to connections created from site manager:

1. Use non-unicode locale.
2. reuse command link thread to transfer data when thread num is limited to 1.

But if I create a quick connection from the address bar or history list, these two feature seems not work.

Request to have a shortcut key like "alt+key or ctrl+key" to bring up the Enter Custom Command window.

It's not a big deal for the two extra mouse clicks to get to it, but it would make it easier if you admin an FTPD that uses custom site commands to accomplish different tasks.

For load-balanced environments it would be very helpful if FileZilla Server could be configured to utilize the IP address provided in an X-Forwarded-For header in place of the default client IP address.

Currently all incoming traffic is shown as coming from the load balancer itself.

This change would permit (more) accurate logging and the use of the Autoban function within a load-balanced environment.

It's a multiplatform open source ftp client for God's sake! Why does it have to store config files in the Applicaton Data folder? It's just like they were stored in the registry... if one reinstalls that infamous OS, all the configs, sites are lost.

In the Site Manager, selecting an existing site in the 'Select Entry' list disables the 'New Site' and 'New Folder' buttons.

It would be great if FileZilla 3 could notify me when the uploading or downloading of my Transfer Queue is complete. Personally the playing of a sound file would suit me nicely, however this might not suit everyone. So could I suggest some options:

• play default sound file
• play other/specific sound file
• execute external command
• flash window on task bar (Windows only?)

The reason is I often have large downloads running while I do other things. So an audio notifcation of completion would be fantastic.

Example if capacity of server =200 Mb when upload more files with files and folders and subfolders : calculate 20Mb. capacity server - size uploads = size empty for an another upload.

I believe this is a useful feature available in FZ2 but gone in FZ3. Please restore it.

A possibility to limit how much data a user/group can download/upload, for example per month.

Add the ability to be able to upload and manage Amazon S3.

It would be even more handy to have the files being edited shown in another tab, instead of a dialog. The space is already used by that tab bar, might as well fill it.

I am using FileZilla Client 3.0.1. I just found that if I use anonymous to login FTP server, the "password" being sent by FileZilla Client is hardcoded to anon@localhost, which causes troubles when I connect to some FTP servers which checks the validity of email addresses, which is used as password. For example, the server ftp.cse.cuhk.edu.hk (one of my favourite mirrors) is one of them which checks the password if it is a valid email address.

I would like to have a feature that let users to configure the anonymous password being sent, like in FileZilla 2.

Please create a new Context-Menu entry. I want open files with my own editor.

It'd be helpful to me if there was be an option to automatically expand the display of remote folders/directories directly under the current remote folder/directory (like when you hit the [+] to the left of a folder/directory) in the remote tree pane on connection and while browsing, similar to Windows Explorer's simple folder view (XP).

2.2.3 let me move the toolbars all into one line, that was a great way to save desktop space an would love to see it again.

Version 3 changed the drag and drop behavior from dropping in the current folder, to dropping into the subfolder closest to the pointer. This is not typical OS behavior, and would be very difficult to get used to. Please revert to the previous behavior, or provide an option to do so.

FYI, for this and other reasons (file edit function removed in version 3), I've reverted to version 2. Version 2 is a great tool, but I think version 3 is going in the wrong direction.

Is it possible to integrate any scripting engine (for ex., DMDScript) to the server engine, like in g6ftp (​http://www.g6ftpserver.com/manuals/en/scripts.html)?

The filezilla client may send NOOP command periodically to avoid server's timeout.

I've been using FileZilla for years and I'd become used to being able to move sites from one folder to another in the site manager window. On the lastest version this appears to no longer be possible.

When you only have a few sites it's not a problem but I'm dealing with nearly 170 domains each with thier own subdomaines on seven different servers and this was a feature that healped me keep them organised.

Can we have this feature back please?

Please add timestamp to all possible log entries in Filezilla Server (not only user actions as it is now), e.g. also: Connection to server closed. Connected, waiting for authentication Logged on etc.

The previous version of the FileZilla Client (2.x.x) had a very useful setting:

Edit-->Settings...-->File transfer settings --> "Preserve date/time of downloaded files"

Please add this to the current 3.x.x version.

in filezilla 2 there has been shown the total count of the files in a directory. in filezilla client 3 the total count of the files is not shown any longer. why?

I would really appreciate, if you added a checkbox determining the default UTF8 handling - "opts utf8". Older clients doesn't support unicode and I'm not able to tell everybody to send "opts utf8 off" command... Pleeasee...

The select entry window in the site manager is too narrow. If it could remember the width it was last stretched to, or if it defaulted to a wider window it would be better. As it is, it's too narrow to read the contents comfortablyand quickly, especially if there are nested folders.

The range is now 5-999. Why don't you let user to create his own policy? I think 1-999 is OK. I'd use a value 3 for instance...

I am using FileZilla version 3.0.2.1.

In the Quick Connect-function it says that you can hide the Quick Connect panel / bar but nothing happens when I try to click to hide it. See attached file.

I think that time until (FileZilla or) the connection to my server / web hotel is far too short. The disconnection happens too fast. Is it possible to prolong the time-out period or even better make it possible to set the time-out period yourselves?

I am very pleased by the ability of FileZilla 3 to open and edit multiple files at the same time.

To make this feature more useful to me I would like the following;

1) Configurable default action on double click. I would like to specify that when I double click, the file in question is opened in my default editor.

2) That when a file is saved in the default editor, the temp file is automatically uploaded to the server without bothering the user with a confimation dialog.

Currently the dialog comes up for every save indicating "File has changed" and asking you to click "Yes" for every change you save. This dialog should have an option to "always" upload the file on save and when this is set the setting should stick for all future sessions.

Once this is in place I think FileZilla will be perfect :)

It would be useful on Unix/Linux systems to have the option to show or hide hidden folders on the local server, as we do on the remote one. An option in the right-click menu and/or Ctrl+H would be perfect.

It would be nice if FilleZilla client supported something that I think is called "segmented downloading": the possibility to download a file using multiple connections to the same server; each connection would download a different segment from the same file.

I just had a situation with a stupid ISP, that severely limits the bandwidth on each TCP connection, but not for all connections.

"Show last log file" or "Show log files folder" command in menu when user choose it on icon in status bar (if logging turned on). It is useful small feature.
