I'm frequently uploading web sites with lots of graphics made in windows clients. Each directory has a file called thumbs.db made by windows that stores the thumbs for faster view I asume. However this files takes up large space and is completely useles at the web. It would be great if filezilla had an option to ignore filenames, extensions or both, based on user input at config menu. I think it would almost double my upload speeds.

Can an option "Folder size" been added to the context- menu of directories?

In other FTP clients (such as FTP Voyager) there is a very usefull option called "Folder size", which recursively walks through the tree below that folder and counts all files and subdirs below.

In Filezilla Server interface, report on windows title/caption the conneci IP. Example 127.0.0.1 for local server, or remote IP for remote server. This for rember witch server are connect to admin interface.

Example, in my WAN I have 20 file zilla server installation for remote management and file transfer, and I frequently admin server from remote node or from node external to WAN.

If ai start a connection to remote server, close connection and then start a new connection logon windows report parameters of prevoius connection, comprised masked password!! Anyone can connect to last connection.

Remove masked password form inputbox, or don'tet it, when open logon windows.

it would be powerful if one can prevent files who match pattern to be transfered from client to server and from server to client in the client product.

Related requests :

But these two requests are too specefic. I prefer a larger method. So I can exclude : .cvs directories .svn directories .tmp files for example...

but also : other product specific names or my specifics rules _* files and directories *.obsolete.* files and directory

etc...

So everyone can transfert entire directories tree without garbage.

The best would be per site config but a general exclude list would be yet appreciated as a must.

first, filezilla server is great software! it just needs a little addon which parses the logfiles, then its very nice. :-)

The ability to trigger a stored job would be incredibly useful, especially if it was coupled with a command line of some description.

Being able to press an up arrow and hit enter to transfer 10 files I'm modifying every few minutes would save a lot of clicking and dragging, changing my current folder, etc.

Basically:

• Ability to create, modify, save and delete macros to

transfer a file, files, or directory structure

• Ability to do this with a minimum of mousework.

The main reason for this is that with the mouse I find I am constantly losing focus on the areas I need, can't select a bunch of files really quickly (I have to minimise FileZilla, go to explorer, select, drag-n-drop), and that's distracting.

Currently Filezilla handles its own DNS requests, even when using a socks4a proxy. It'd be cool to have just the site name sent to the socks4a proxy, thus eliminating DNS leaks on the client end (like using TOR).

feature: simultaneous split download through multiple clients from multiple machines

Description: i wanted to request something like this: say.. two filzilla clients A and B in entirely different computers connect themselves.. then when a user from A or B gives a file to download, one section of the file is downloaded by A and other section by B. this gives rise to distributed downloading of the same file (starting from different file offsets) so that the overall speed is faster. the user from A or B then can meet physically and get the missing parts from each other.both user A and B have to download less per connection.

of course.. there is no need to be two users.. one user with two computers can manage... and also.. should be able to handle around 10 connections(not only two computers) from 10 different computers, each downloading only part of the file on the FTP server .the connection between the two ftp clients is used to keep it ordered so that there is no repeated downloading of even a single byte from the file from either A or B. maintaining 10 connection may be hard.. but.. say.. a custom named irc channel (made temporarily for the 'talks' between the 10 computers) can be utilised for keeping alll the 10 computers in sync( to know which client is downloading which part of file..)

i think this is very important for people .. with this feature.. user can download a 700mb file by utilising two separate connections, eg: office and home (office can download 350 and home another 350)

i dont think many people will comprehend this feature well.. but.. :->

I'm not sure if someone else requested this, but i'd like to be able to enter in another ftp server as a virtual folder, like gene6.

It would be very usefull to be able to start ftp-ing files between different linux-servers from one Windows- FileZilla-Client without saving them on the local windows-client first. The FileZilla-Client had to offer the chance to open a second server-window instead of the local client- window. Possible? Thanks for thinking about it. Nisi

I think it would be interesting to associate sounds with such events as a user connecting to your server, thus allowing you to know whenever someone is accessing your files.

I'm going to use filezilla on a windows 2000 domain with ssl. I currently maintain all my users in the windows active directory. It would be nice if filezilla server was able to authenticate users against the active directory instead of only from the filezilla user list.

Filezilla is by far the best FTP server I have seen and used. One Feature that would be great to add is being able to have/manage multiple FTP servers on one PC (different listening ports as well on them)

I don't see any way to turn on hammering protection in FileZilla server. I personally find this feature absolutely necessary when exposing an FTP server to the Internet.

It would be nice if you could actually specify the private key to use for each SFTP connection. Having to use Putty's default key is completely counter-intuitive, and also means that if you want to connect to different servers using different keys, you have to keep changing Putty's key.

While it is possible to copy files from separate Explorer windows onto the remote server by dragging them onto the FileZilla window, it is not possible to copy files from the remote server by dragging them onto separate Explorer windows.

This is a very useful feature for tasks involving the quick transfer of just one or two files, since chances are good that the user has faster access to the destination folder via their own mechanisms (e.g., a folder shortcut) than by using the FileZilla Local View pane.

I would like the ability to use list (ls) without any options. ls -a doesn't work on a WMCS OS machine.

There should be an option of unlimited login attempts. When I try to connect to a server which is very difficult to connect, sometimes I need more than 999 (it's max now) attempts before I can connect. After that file is placed to the end of the queue, and after restarting FileZilla that file is deleted from queue.

I would like to see an "clear all" button for the queue.

i would be a great feature if filezilla can download first chechsum-files like sfv oder md5 (if they exist) and then after download filezilla will check this. if file isn't ok filezilla will retrieve the file again.

In the options Compression i would like to see that i can tell filezilla what files be not compressed (like archivs, mp3 ore exe files) all other can be compressed. i think compressing archivs etc is not a good idea, but files such doc,txt, xls files can be good compressed.

Could it be possible to get a remote file full link by a right click on it in the "Remote file list" ? Two possibilities :

1. copy the link to the clipboard

or

2. send the link to a mail.

at very first: wonderful, wonderful filezilla! one feature request: when using "quick connect" there pops-up/drops down a list of my latest connections.

now: it would be fine, if i could edit this list, at least delete those, who shouldn't be there any more/aren't used any more.

and there should be a longer list too.

When using FTP with TLS/SSL (explicit) FileZilla uses encryption for both the command and data connections sending a 'PROT P' command to the server.

From the security point of view this is ok but not always necessary. Mostly the command connection needs encryption for secure password transfers on login and the data then can be transfered unencrypted and uncompressed (only sometimes data needs encryption). This would give less load to ftp-servers when using fast connection (like 100MBit and above).

It would be great to choose between 'PROT P' and 'PROT C' in default settings and for each site in the manager.

When I'm trawling through my local file window in FileZilla client 2.2.18.

I often find myself wishing to open a file's target directory or even the selected directory in Explorer.

But there appears to be no way to do so.

Therefore I've got to find this directory or file via Explorer and trawl through the directories *again* which can take an age!

This inability of FileZilla to do this, just makes me and no doubt hundreds of others irated. :-)

But why not save thousands of users grief and add a wee icon or an extra Menu line to do a 'open Container' command on a file or directory right into Explorer please?

I would like to see the logging options expanded to allow logging to a standard syslog server running on udp 514. In the config form allow the user to enter the IP address for the syslog server. Maybe allow a non-standard port, that would be useful for some people.

I would only log items such as logins/logouts and file puts/gets.

I have FileZilla version 2.2.17a and noticed that in the local file list there is no primary command (the command that is executed by double clicking on a file) and that in the remote file list the primary command is 'download'. I would like the primary command in both file lists to be 'open'.

It would be helpful if there were a windows explorer navigation toolbar with commands such as back, foward, up, delete, views, properties, etc. This would make finding files easier.

in zmode i would like to see it activated also by file type it consume too much cpu when transferring a very large zip file which hangs my server

so if there will be a feature to include or exclude file type from zmode it will be very good

When I use Filezilla server, I miss the feature that restricts people to upload files greater then a certain amount. I miss this because I don't want people to use up all the harddisk space, so an even better solution would be to set a maximum size for the folder so people can't put more on the harddisk then the specified size.

Can you make Serevr Interface remember its window size so that when it is started again it keeps its previous size?

There are at least three other request (896458, 558585, 993101) for the Remote Site to remember previously accessed directories. I would really like to see this feature included in Filezilla. Some of these request go back as far as 2002. This would be extremely helpful.

It would be fabulous to chat between server and different connected clients. I think it is not too complicated to add this feature. Thanks a lot

I think a great feature would be if FZ could read and store permissions of all the files it downloaded, so it would then have the ability to (optionally) restore those permissions when the files are uploaded back to the server.

This would solve a perpetual problem that I have -- whenever I use FZ to restore files, my website is broken until I manually figure out what the permissions should be.

Server interface admin password is not encrypted in xml config file. Other things are wery good. ;) Thanks.

There should be added some OpenVMS (or in general server system) support. E.g. a file on OpenVMS X.TXT;5 should be copied to x.txt and not to x.txt;5 on Windows. Only WS FTP supports this feature.

It would be nice option to hide zero size files in remote file list.

An additional menu item of 'Explore' on local folders within Filezilla which opened Windows Explorer in that folder would be a great time saver.

I'd like to see the server be able to send a email notification when a file is uploaded into a specific directory. We use Filezilla to take incoming orders that we print. I'd like our incoming directory to notify the production staff when they come in.

It would be even better if these notifications auto-configured based on the auto-created user directories.

We use the server for "anonymous" uploads of files. When the user opens the upload directory in Internet Explorer, they get an error message that says they don't have permission in that directory. This confuses the average user because they think they don't have permission to upload when, in fact, they only don't have permission to list the directory.

I'd like to be able to toggle that so if they don't have permission to list the directory, but they do have permission to do other things in the directory, they just get an empty directory when they list. It doesn't then give them any permission denied messages.

Could we please have this feature? WS_FTP has it and it's the only thing I miss in FileZilla.

All WS_FTP does is a very rudimentary log:

• time of initiating the transfer
• filename being transferred
• remote filename (even the remote path alone would do,

to avoid rescanning the remote directory in case the file was auto-renamed upon upload)

• direction of transfer (upload/download)

I would like to see the option to have only lower case filenames on the server remote side. I used to use WS_FTP and this was a useful option that I used.

Can you please enable the use of Novell Border Manager as one of the FTP proxy type settings. By default, it uses dollar signs and not the 'at' symbol.

connection between Server Interface and the FTP Server. Otherwise there is no sense to run FTPS service and everybody can see you settings and passwords because of insecure connection.

Many FTP servers are configured to allow uploads only. This means that the LIST command fails. It would be useful to be able to disable the use of LIST, and grey out the remote file list pane(s), for these servers.

i like to see my desktop on the local site and dont always need to klick through the c:\documents./.../ User/desktop

I'd like to have current user's Desktop at top of local treeview. It's what you find in almost every filebrowser in windows softwares (Save/Load dialogs for example).

I find quite bothering going through Local HardDrive / Document and Settings / <user> / and at last Desktop to locate quickly the desktop.

Support for Directory shortcuts in local view would help too. Double-click in that kind of shortcut should lead you to the destination directory in treeview instead of uploading the .lnk file ;)

The settings, groups and users windows are a bit too small for my taste, could it be possible to get a small resizing mechanism, as the main filezilla server window?

When setting shared folders for groups and users, it's not very easy to determine which folder to edit and you need to use the horisontal scrollbar along with expanding the directories and alias columns, which makes this a lot more unfriendly to administrators with many folders on this list.

FileZilla assumes that one user will only ever be a member of one group, which is very restrictive for a server that hosts sites for multiple organizations.

I host a number of websites on one server, several of which use the services of one or more of the same individuals to design their artwork, HTML, and/or scripts.

With other FTP servers I have been able to easily manage security issues by assigning group access to each website, or to several websites owned by the same entity, then adding users and making them members of each of the appropriate groups. This would be a very helpful feature in FileZilla.

It would be nice if it was possible to implement the feature of copying files from FileZilla's file explorer (e.g. files on ftp server) by pressing Ctrl+C and pasting them into the Windows explorer by pressing Ctrl+V.

I'm just re-iterating the need to "schedule" transfers or "mirror" folders. I'm currently backing up my application server to an (off site) ftp server manually with FileZilla.

The one major thing lacking in Filezill Server is logging options. I would like to see things like file size limitations, control of log name, log location, being able to rotate the log out ever hour, day, week, month, ext. This is needed for security badly. Someone was trying to hack my Filezilla Server FTP today and when I tryed to open the log a 106 MB file takes a hell of a long time to load. Giving these options (expesialy to start a new log every hour, day, week, month) whould have helped me a huge amount.

we should be able to have a list of to be ignored file-types to be uploaded (or even doenloaded), just to NOT clutter our servers with a local csv or svn download-repo.

I would like to suggest adding an option to automatically disable an account when the user fails to login a certain amount of times. Also there could be a checkbox to automatically add an IP ban after a certain number of failed logins or an excessive amount of connections.

This would help defend the server from the common FTP brute force attacks.

Allow common paths to be recalled on a per-site basis. (ie. favourites)

When invoking a manual transfer, with a file highlighted in the local site filename window: 1) right mouse click to invoke manual transfer 2) automatically populate the manual transfer local filename

This should probably be a window sensitive right mouse click - if you are in the remote site filename window, the right mouse click should be aware that the manual transfer is a 'download' and automatically populate the correct field.

If you are in the local site filename window, the right mouse click shown presume you are doing an 'upload' and populate the local site filename window.

Alternatively - should the automatic upload process be knowledgable that the upload target is a mainframe, itcould simply truncate the noteds to 8 characters. For example: put fubar.uploadfile <to a mainfraim> would transfer as fubar.uploadfi or even better fubar.uploadfi.le

For users like me, who like to download files from FTP sites, it would be nice if I, and other users of FileZilla could change the window positions, instead of "side by side", the local and remote windows could be "one atop the other", if THAT were done, we could, for instance, use MUCH longer PathNames for the Local and Remote Directory Trees, too, ok?

Give the user the ABILITY to put the remote window ABOVE the local window, or vice versa, make it a configuration choice in the "settings", IE, the user would have 4 choices,

"left local and right remote", "left remote and right local", "bottom local and top remote", "bottom remote and top local".

Please also make this a setting that could

be "permanent", retained in the "XML file" with other permanent settings, so, anytime I need to change it, I can, then it will be that way next I run this program.

I think it would be great to have a progress bar or percentage shown as the tray icon for filezilla. It should show % complete over all downloads. Many other FTP clients out there do it, and it's quite a useful feature.

When you navigate to a directory, local or remote, the other pane should attempt to navigate to a directory of the same name. If there is not a directory by that name, the feature turns off.

A option to keep the system tray icon active would be helpful, especially if you have the hide inactive icons in the windows system trsy option checked.

Allowing FZ to register itself for FTP and SFTP URLs would be useful.

Provide a checkbox "Keep folder movement synchronized" If checked, any change-of-directory on one side would attempt to perform the same change on the other side.

Since users generally set up equivalent start points, this would mean they could easily ensure they were always in equivalent places in both windows, guarding against uploading or downloading the wrong version of a file. (Especially useful where filenames repeat, such as index.html or index.php, etc.)

It would be a safe thing to lock user account or reject IP address automatically after a defined number of bad login.

Great product. Extenstively use client but now want to set up the server. I'd like to configure it for SFTP. How do I do this? What port? Do I need a SSL cert? I'd devour the documentation is there were some... thanks in advance!

I haven't noticed if this also happens when you upload. But when you download alot (10+ files) of files the FileZilla-client flickers alot. Perhaps it's because the OS I run (Win XP) or something, but it seems as if this is programmed into FileZilla.

So, when I download files the local folders update themself for every file. If the folder is full of files this takes a few milliseconds thus showing a white screen for a while until the files are listed again. Also the remote server updates like this. If this is removed (the updating of the filelists) by default then it would be much more easy on the eyes.

Also, the queue flickers alot because the current file drops down a row with uploading status. Perhaps put that progress somewhere else, probably best att the current files filename background. This would reduce the flickering from the queue shrinking after completed upload then increasing because of a new upload in progress.

There would extremely nice if the server would implement support for extending functionality via FTP "site" commands, for example by configuring an external program to be ran, passing the "site" partameters as arguments to that program. Furthermore, even better would be that the server is able to load some plugin dll's and call a standard function in it, passing the "site" arguments. This in ideea that the function returns a string which is returned to the client as response to the "site" command. I would like to write such a dll for doing some custom adminstration on my home server remotely.

I really like your Software, it's fast and reliable, but there is one function that would make it perfect:

In addition to filezila, I am using a free, feature- reduced version of ftp-uploader (​http://www.ftp- uploader.de/), which uploads all changed files on a local directory-tree to a specified server. In the registered version, it would do this automatically, that means, it would run in the background, detects changes automatically and startes the upload of the file. In the free version, the program does this only on button press.

It would be fantastic, if FileZilla would offer this feature as an option the configured Servers, so every user can choose, if he wants to work manually or have everything be done without a click.

I hope you find my wish usefull and consider implementing.

It would be nice if filezilla could download from multiple hosts with only on filezilla running and the ability speficy to use multiple connections to one host and to the other only one.

When Drag&Drop an directory or more to upload/donwload, don't get all file first in all directories. This often stops when an FTP Error during Get File List occured. So just read the directory content when the specified directory is next in queue.

it would like to be great that when a file is transfering (download or upload) a mail is send each xx min (many emails address) and says when a file transfert is finished : says what file/directory too...

i can do a soft for that, but filezilla can do it easily.

I only have one public IP address availeble, and another FTP server is using port 990 for ftps, so it would be nice if it was possible to configure FileZilla Server to listen for ftps on a different port.

Or, is there some way to tweak the current version innto using a port different from 990?

A lot of times when I use filezilla to download some stuff, it'll get confused by the unix / linux filenames.

As a result, it'll get confused by the directory names and try to overwrite stuff it just downloaded. Either from the same directory (similar filename) or from another directory that has similar contents (but perhaps a different version.)

Or worse, it'll create the directory or file, but it wont be accessible under windows. Things like NUL, CON, etc. Those and more are reserved under Windows. They date back to DOS, but are still a problem in windows.

Perhaps Filezilla should have an option (enabled by default) to create Windows safe filenames.

Sometimes when I'm downloading an archive, I'll just add the whole directory by dragging it to the queue pane.

When I do, filezilla will recursively go through the directory structure and add each file. Just like it's supposed to.

But sometimes when a subdir has lots of small files in it, filezilla will spend so long adding those to the queue that it seems to lock up. And it'll loose the ftp connection and be unable to continue traversing the directory stucture for the rest of the files.

The more that gets added, the slower things go. And it'll reach a point where filezilla just locks up for a couple minutes or more and the connection times out and it wont finish adding the rest of the stuff.

Even though the files being added are small and could be downloaded pretty quick, by this point, filezilla is spending more time adding a file to the queue than it would probably take to just go ahead and download it.

.metalink files are simple XML text files that list the multiple locations (Mirrors/P2P) for files, along with checksums & other useful info. There will usually be more than 1 FTP & HTTP source, so a program can get a segment of each file from different sources at the same time. If the download manager doesn't support all or any of the P2P networks listed, then it just uses the mirrors.

This can be really nice for downloading large files like ISOs.

Please add Transfer Type (Ascii/Binary/Auto) to the settings for each site within the Site Manager. Some hosted accounts always take ASCII files, while others take binary (e.g., Zend Optimizer). It is really annoying to keep forgetting to switch from one transfer type to another, depending upon the particular site that one is uploading files to. That should be stored within the settings for that particular site, and would be a really handy feature. Thanks!

The one thing I like about Serv-U ftp server is that it can use both physical drives and mapped logical drives.

I'd like to request that mapped drives & shared

folders can be used in a future release. This is because not everyone has all the files they want on the FTP server machine, but they might be on a different machine that the admin gets to via a mapped drive or shared directory.

It would be nice if FileZilla server had an option for ignore errors when the RNTO command points to an existing file. I mean that if a client sends a RNFR <filename1> and a RNTO <filename2>, the server now sends always an error if a file named <filename2> already exists. I'd like to choose the behaviour in order to avoid this. regards

I'd find it useful.

Add features “IP filter” on concrete directory like IIS. IP filter must work as: On all FTP (present) On selected user/group (present) On selected directory of current user/group (add this features)

For example: FTP server has 2 dir: “TEST” and “BETATEST”. User Anonymous must access to “TEST” and if his IP is 192.16.0.5 also must have access to “BETATEST”. Now, in FileZilla Server 0.9.16b this impossible.

it would be nice if the filezilla server gets a crc checker for sfv oder md5 files - if something (files or dirs with a sfv-file for example) is uploaded to the ftp-server it could be checked and marked as ok oder bad or missing so.
