FileZilla settings.xml and FTP Sites.xml can be imported/exported separately but are merged into one file FileZilla.xml that is stored in the FileZilla program folder.

Because of feature request ID 777731 (see ​http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php? func=detail&aid=777731&group_id=21558&atid=372244) it would be better if the FileZilla.xml is split into two separate files FTP Sites.xml for the site info and FileZilla settings.xml for the settings.

The site info can then be stored in a central location and each user can have there own settings stored locally.

Now I think of it. It would be great if a user can have a local copy of their "private" site info stored locally and "public" site info stored central.

Moving from WS_FTP, I like filezilla a lot. But I miss 2 features.

1. Having a drop down history list of local directories. It

looks like this is almost there, since there is a similar list on the remote side. I find I'm ftp'ing from 2 or 3 local directories constantly, and it would be nice to not have to keep typing them in.

2. I would prefer transfer arrows, rather than double-

clicking.

Please accept praise for Editing a remote file: once I associate gvim with the file view/edit, editing just worked. Several other programs I tried said they did editing, but after bringing up the editor, the changes never got saved on the remote side.

FYI: I also tried the free AceFTP, which has these, as well as a bewildering combination of other unnecessary features. I did like the ability to have open FTP connections to two different machines, and switch with GUI tabs, but it kept crashing and was really just too complicated.

So while I campaign for my desired features, I do appreciate the basic simplicity and cleanliness of filezilla.

This is a very simple request: Please, please, put the total number of files in the queue in the status bar next to the number of bytes in the queue. :)

Assuming the transfer rate is pretty stable, why not put the total time remaining for downloading the entire queue in the status bar? It would be EXTREMELY USEFUL.

You run FileZilla (2.1.9a) and select a site to connect from bookmark, and after the connection and download / upload you go out from pg.

When you run the pgm next time and select the bookmark manager, the default selected item is not last used item (in previuos session) but the firsi site/folder in list

I usually use FileZilla to download iso images, that come with an md5 checksum. It would be very useful if FilleZilla comes with some way to check the md5 checksum of a file (perhaps adding this to the file properties)

First of all I would like to congratulate you on the great work you have done. I have a small proposal for a feature enhancement you might like to consider.

In the file transfer settings, you can now set the total number of concurrent connections. It would be nice if you could set how many connections you can make by server.

For instance, you could be able to configure:

Transfer up to 3 files at the same time Maximum number of connections per server: 1

The reason is that many ftp servers limit the number of connections from an IP address, so that many times you cannot actually use the feature as it is implemented now.

It would be helpful if the window state (maximized or restored) could be saved automatically when closing FileZilla.

Can you implement the AutoRename feature of CuteFTP?

In CuteFTP you can set "Preserve Case", "Force Uppercase" and "Force Lowercase" for each FTP site seperately.

The site details should include a text field when the user can add some description or notes about the site.

Before everything, your program is very good, easy use, and almost complete. I think it may be good to propose to shut down the computer, or to disconnect from the server, when the transfer was done. I also propose to show the progression and an estimation of time left of all the transfer queue.

It would be very useful to be able to select multiple files using shell paterns (or regular expresions), like say: when I conect with a debian mirror to download packages I would like to select all the files

Ability to play a wav file from the hard drive upon certain events. For example, set FileZilla to play "connect.wav" when you successfully connect to a server. A practical use of this would be if one was trying to connect to a limited user FTP server. Once connected, a wave file like "connect.wav" could play, alerting the user that he was finally able to get in.

For each file, the transfer queue window shows the number of bytes that have already been transferred, like this: 37890695 bytes (30.7 KB/s)

There should be an option to separate this number into groups of three digits, like this: 37.890.695 bytes (30.7 KB/s)

The current method of obtaining a hardcopy listing if desired is the old screen print to the clipboard. This is untenable when a site has a few hundred files.

Nice product. Would be great to see the addition of a radio button to change the filename to all lowercase when uploading.

permission is normally shown for unix file systems. but interpretation is not possible if you see not at the same time the uid and gid of the owner of the file.

I wish FileZilla automatically saves/restores property values for different controls:

• size & position of the main form,
• position of splitters,
• state of menu items: View-Toolbar, View-Statusbar

Add an option to automatically change directories on the remote server when the local directory is changed and the directory structure locally matches the directory structure remotely.

That is, if there is a directory foo in the current local directory and in the current remote directory, entering foo locally/remotely will enter foo remotely/locally.

If the current local directory has the same name as the remote directory, then entering .. will go up one level on both sides.

It would be nice to be able to right click in local and remote window pane and choose a refresh option.

When i'm doing web-stuff, I always Alt-tab from mozilla, editor and ftp program, i never use the mouse during that, and i didn't found any keybord shortcut in order tu upload/download selected file(s), is there one ? If not, that would be cool if you add one !

I build webpages and have to update them to the server to test them. If the option is selected, the client would regularly poll the files (date/time) in the current directory and compare it against the remote directory (date/time). If the file on the client is newer, it would auto send the file to the server. Thus you could just save a webpage, and not have to do anything with FileZilla to get it to update. When you sort the Files by Last Modified it should still keep the Folders at the top instead of mixing everything up based on when the Folder was created. If you still want to sort the Folders by when they were modified then that's fine, but don't you think they should be kept at the top of the window? It's impossible to find a folder when you have a directory full of 1,000's of files! Very annoying. :(

I would like to see the ability monitor a local folder for new files every five seconds. Also an option to delete the file from the local folder after sucessful transfer.

Since Im sure alot of dialup users out there use FTP, and the hosts they have dont have the ability to bring files from another server. Im one of those people. I would like to see the ability to have multiple connections open, with the ability to drag and drop between servers. As moving from server - hdd- another server can take forever for us dialup users.

As present in "CuteFTP", it would be so great to have the option "Add site to shell integration", in the site manager window. Then, it would be possible to directly upload files from windows explorer, when invoking a right-click on the file you want to upload. Bravo bravo for such a software!

I'm using filezilla to maintain code on a distant machine. I always have to propagate modifications on every version of the program, thats why i have to work on files which have same name, but are in different directories (/v0.1/, /v0.2/). This cant be done since the View/Edit feature first copies the file locally and then opens it. Editing files with same name leads to "file already exists" message. It would be great if the download process could rebuild the directory tree locally before editing the file...

Is it possible to have as options on Upload and (seperately) Download of an ASCII text file (eg .html) the Choice* between using

(a) Unix Line endings LF or (b) Windows Line Endings CR LF

Using FileZilla 2.2.1b on a Windows Me PC client, it appears FileZilla uses exclusively LF for upload (strips CR) and download. The Server (unix or windows) ought not care which line endings are used; browsers know CR, CR LF, and LF are equivalent for rendering purposes - the advantage to using the same line endings on both client and server is (1)At a glance comparision between ASCII file byte counts on upload or download - good confidence test etc and (2)Windows needs the CR for editing purposes if you download a text file - (unless one wants to look at the "black square" phenonmenon in Notepad etc.)

While there are settings for adjusting the sort order for the file list, it seems that the treeview always has an arbitrary sort (the directories). It would be nice to be able to adjust this setting so that when looking at mirrored directories, the local and remote treeview is congruent, making it easy to find the folder which requires transfer.

Currently in filezilla, when you click on a remote directory in the treeview, it opens the directory in the file list pane and expands the directory in the treeview. If you do this on the local treeview, it only opens the directory in the file list pane and does NOT expand the directory in the treeview. This is both an inconsistency and a nuisence (or to be more positive, it would be great if it worked this way ;)

First off, I love your work!

Please consider adding an option to play a .wav sound upon completion of a transfer (for both individual files and for the entire queue). I frequently upload big files (several MB), and playing a sound would be a great way to notify me when one finishes to I do not have to check repeatedly.

There is only one client that supports HTTP proxy with FTP support - Total Commander. I hope that FileZilla will be the next :)

If you choose "Edit File" for a file on the remote server, the file being edited should be downloaded, opened with associated program (or Open With") and ask/automatically uploaded (by remembering the file date/time and doing a comparison) to the remote server each time the file is saved on the local machine (or if easier, when you exit the editor). A prompt asking the user "The file has been changed locally, do you want to update the server with the new file?" should come up as a confirmation.

I would very much like to see an auto upload folder. This would be a folder monitored by the FileZilla Client for any change. Once a new file was added it would be uploaded based on auto upload configurations.

Filezilla is a very cool file transfer application but it seems to lack a feature surprisingly trivial: user profiles. All users share the same bookmarks that are stored in a system wide configuration file. On my home PC there are two users and this is impractical to find my own bookmark mixed with the other user's ones, figure it in a more etherogeneous environment like scools, universitie or offices... IMHO it should be better and *safer* having them stored into user's document folder (it can be found, for example, by inspecting USERPROFILE or HOMEPATH environment variables), and eventually check for a common configuration file (for default values or shared bookmarks) into Filezilla installdir or more consistently, into the path specified by ALLUSERPSROFILE environment variable.

I think it would serve very well to have a total transfer speed, especially with multi-threaded downloading. This should be very simple to do, and it could be stuck down in the status bar.

The only thing I have found missing in FileZilla is a way to save the connection settings to a file.

I have lots of connections, and it would be great if these could be exported. That way I could quickly give these to another person, or back them up and restore them easily.

There already is a way to export interface settings to an XML file, but not the connections.

For large downloads (like linux distros) where MD5 sums are offered, it would be really nice if FileZilla could compare its downloads to the sums offered to verify that everything was gotten correctly.

Servers behind NAT may give the wrong IP when they give the host/port info in their response to the client PASV.

I just experimented, and I can simply substitute the original server IP instead of using the one the server passed in the response.

I think this would make a nice option.

I'm seeing this matter when the server's NAT gateway can fix the outbound info in unencrypted channel (so I have no problem there), but the server's NAT gateway can't fix it in encrypted channel, so I can't connect unless I hack the code in CFtpControlSocket::List to switch IPs.

I think it would be nifty to have an Advanced option something like

"Use original Server IP in PASV connection"

for this case, to avoid having to hack in the cpp code myself :)

I might be able to submit a code patch for it, if I can (a) figure out the original server IP (which shouldn't be hard, but when I was hacking, I knew the server IP and just put in a hardcoded one, so I didn't solve this part), and (b) figure out the GUI stuff (probably much the harder part).

Some of most important ftp program have a feature for backup or automatick upload to one or more ftp space. i haven't seen this in filezilla.

If you're not connected to a server and you process the queue, the FileZilla client tells you when connects to the server(s) and when it processes each item in the queue, but it doesn't tell you if/when it disconnects from the server(s).

Could you add the ability to save a remote directory list as text? It would make it easier to print out a list and cross off files downloaded.

There is currently, as far as I know, no way to change the order of the items in the queue. It would be great to be able to drag and drop to change the order (as in virtually any other ftp program) or a context menu option to "move to bottom" and "move to top".

Is there any way of turning on a timestamp in the message log window so I can see exactly when I connected, disconnected, etc. Basically, I want to know when every single occurrence happened.

Which shows me that at 8:30pm, I tried to connect to localhost and failed.

It seems that I must currently set my firewall to allow outgoing connections on ANY port > 1024. Could we please allow the user to specify a limited range of ports for Filezilla Client to use, allowing the firewall to be configured more tightly? Maybe the GUI could be integrated with Feature Request 875817, also related to PASV connections. And, my thanks for this great software!

A good option would be to remember the remote site directories, so I would appear always in the Remote Site drop list. There could be an option to delete the list at any time. This is useful for webmasters especially if they have a large number of directories in his sites.

FileZilla is a great program, but I'm missing the possibility to edit target file/directory for a file in the queue. (Like CTRL-E in FlashFXP).

A "pause quene when current file(s) finish" would also be nice. (Not aborting current uploads/downloads)

My father uses an ancient FTP server as part of his job. His FTP server supports accessing directories using slash for a delimiter, but the files he wants to access are not accessible via this method. His directory change request must follow the pattern "CWD 'QW.U.SNOW.ALL'" for example, and the server responds normally. Unfortunately, FileZilla wraps this in slashes when he tries to change directories in the "Remote Site" pulldown.

If possible, add a server-by-server option to specify directory delimiters, or to set the directory raw rather than parsed.

As an ex ws_ftp user I find filezilla superior in nearly all aspects. Two things that I miss 'though:

1. Sounds - often I transfer a lot of files in the

background while I'm working on something else and I minimise my ftp client. A .wav to confirm that the transfer is complete (or there has been a problem) would be very useful. Some people may find sounds annoying, but they could always be switched off...

2. Transfer button - the upload / download buttons with

arrows in ws_ftp that sit between the server side and PC side files are more intuitive than double clicking or right clicking to transfer.

I have to go thru a firewall with anti-virus that send no data until the download is complete and the file is analyzed, and then, send the whole file at once.

for large files, even on fast remote servers, the download can take more than 999 seconds.

is it possible to allow larger timeout ?

The Filezilla Client Installer does not search automatically for ressources in the current directory.

Considering the following example :

o the user wants to install the FileZilla FTP client

in french

o the french documentation ZIP file is in the same

directory than the EXE installer file.

The user select a french installation, so the french documentation is selected for installation by default. To avoid the download of the documentation (for example if the user is currently off-line, or if the user is a system admin who needs to install FileZilla on several PCs), the user need to activate the "local directory" checkbox and set the directory where the requested ressource (ZIP file) is. This is not very user friendly...

The installer should so modified to :

1) first, look in the current directory to see if the

ressource

is available;

2) if not, try to download the ressource.

One feature I miss from WSFTP was the ability to choose the default action for a double-click on a file. You could choose between transfering the file (as is currently implemented in FileZilla), or simply opening it for viewing editing. I check my log files every morning, and often just want to see a file's contents rather than download it, so for me, view, not transfer, is the preferred default double-click action. I also thing that transfer is the more "dangerous" action, so having it as non-default means I have to think for a fraction of a second more before I up/download a file.

fixing bad (LAN) passive mode ips as a per site setting. Because only some sites makes bad pasv answers.

Filezilla should replace the given pasv ip with the serversip. This should only be an option, since this "bad" ips are needed for fxp, which should also be implemented ;)

The default retry delay should be 60 seconds, not 5. With such a short delay many sites ban you for hammering.

Currently, the local tree view can't display local network structure. How it can do so in the following release. Thank you.

Could it be possible to map a FTP site as a network drive. There are shareware programs that do that like Internet Neighborhood?

A parameter for each site should be added to specify the umask value (example 002). After connected, filezilla should send the ftp command "site umask 002" (with 002 that is example if user has configured his site profile with umask=002)

This is required for thoose who wants to have their file to have a particular group, user permissions automatically, according to the site profile, with no need to change permissions on each file after a transfer.

I would like SSH with Kerberos /GSS authentification. I have to use SSH to get through the firewall and I have to use Kerberos/GSS authentification to get on the system.

Together with "Use multiple connections" in Queue menu, another "check option" "Use speed limit" to obey or not the speed limits set in the configuration, for downloads and uploads.

Would be nice to have my Windows "favorites" links available in local directories, or the "Links" folder on the desktop--easier navigation.

I would think that it would be good if FileZilla could (optionally!) automatically ignore certain filenames when uploading. These files would for example be:

• CVS directories
• thumbs.db (thumbnail file automatically created by

Windows)

Very useful feature for web developers doing work on Windows, but uploading to Unix servers - the necessity to force remote file names to lower case during transfer.

A simple check box in the File Transfer option would be great - I always use the force to lower case, saves a lot of heartache and time, going through the remote file system and doing it manually.

One thing I've seen in other FTP clients is the option to overwrite where the filesize is smaller or larger. This is useful in conjunction with the option to download based on "last updated" date. Sometimes file transfers will break and the client's error detection will fail. Having the option to overwrite based on filesize is also good when files on the client have been changed, but you still want to overwrite them with files on the host side. Sometime, files on the host will have a newer "last updated" date than on the client, without having actually been changed (they were only touched), and therefore overwriting based on date causes a lot of unnecessary transferring and overwriting.

I've read through the last 100 or so feature requests, and this hasn't popped up, (though I imagine it has been requested before). This would be a great feature for us windows users, as it allows us to forget about the local tree view and use explorer (from run) to find the directory listings were interested in. Although the most recent versions have enabled drag and drop into filezilla, this is only really half way effective, (as again, it does not remove the necesity of the local tree view).

I love the program, and use it, but this is the sticking point for many other users in my communities.

I've told them that one of my favorite filezilla features is the involvement of the developers, and the community. Thanks, I hope I can see this implemented in FZ3!. I'm dying to see it released.

With this feature, whenever a user click Refresh, Filezilla would highlight all the files that have been changed since the last refresh. This includes new files that are uploaded to remote site. An example of this implemetation can be seen in SmartFTP.

It would be great if the FileZilla Team can add an option that will allow us to keep folder names "as is" during transfer. Right now, FileZilla always forces folder names to lowercase, and those of us who like to use capital/uppercase letters for the first letter of folder names have to change it manually at all times.

When I have a large queue of upload files, sometimes I want to delete one file from the queue. But, when I scroll down the list, when a new upload occurs, the list scrolls up to the top, so I can't select the desired file to delete

I am using 2.2.5a and want to upload a file to an ftp site that only allows blind uploads (i.e. I cannot see what someone else has uploaded)

I log onto the site anonymously and try to change to the uploads folder.

I get this in the log

It looks like it changes to the Uploads folder successfully but when it gets the error retrieving the directory listing it puts me back to the parent folder. If I try to copy a file to the Uploads folder I get errors

I think it should stay in the uploads folder even though it could not retrieve the directory listing. I have tried this with some other ftp clients and they do work as I expect them to. It would be great if Filezilla could do this too.

Deactivating of the timeout would be a good solution for the following problem. For example inserting a 0 for the timout or a check button to activate / deactivate.

Our network is behind a proxy server. Requests of files from an FTP-Server will be downdloaded by this proxy server. After a virus check the proxy sends the files to FileZilla. The download of huge files (40 MB and more) will be abortet after the maximum timeout of 999 seconds (~16 minutes) because FileZilla have to wait until the proxy has finished his job.

I wanna position remote pane upper to local position like the FTPVoyager.

Filezilla doesn't support SCP, WinSCP doesn't support FTP.

The WinSCP-Developer stated under ​http://winscp.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=197 that FPT will be included in WinSCP if anyone develops it. As FileZilla is a great existing FTP-Client, why don't exchange the sources among other. FileZilla can be improved with SCP-Suport and WinSCP can be improved with FTP-Support.

need a simple quick one click or keystroke to turn on and off PASV mode

Currently symbolic links are shown with the same icons as folders. It is confusing, and it would be much better if they would be displayed more like regular files. Ideally also with the data about where they are linked to.

I would very, very much like to have delete confirmation in Site Manager, because in 2.2.5 it is very easy to delete a directory full of sites.

move up the "don't store password" checkbox in servermanager, so that one not enters a password and then checks the option and the pasword field is then disabled. This needs to be the other way around. Maybe this can be put into the logon-type group above user-name.

Previously I used AceFTP. It had a transfer files arrow buttons (like -> and <-) between local files view pane and remote files view pane. I think, FileZilla is missing that good feature.

Also the tree view of local and remote is integrated into one list itself in AceFTP, which in FileZilla takes two panes and bit buggy.

The disconnect connection option could have added in toolbar as in AceFTP for faster access.

Also, multiple connection option is lacking in FileZilla.

A file filter addition to the filezilla would be appreciated. right now if there are too many files in the directory there is no way to filter out the file except trying to find out visually.

e.g if I just want to see the file type with the sql extension there is no place to specify this as of now.

Often developers use CVS to maintain their HTML projects but the do not want to transfer these CVS informations to the production server. Therefore I suggest to hide these - and other optional files - in the local view.

Other directories and files that are not neccessary to transfer are e.g. Dreamweaver template and library files (directories /Template and /Library)
