select multiple files with shell paterns

Description

It would be very useful to be able to select multiple files
using shell paterns (or regular expresions), like say:
when I conect with a debian mirror to download
packages I would like to select all the files

*_i386.deb

(or *_{all,deb} )

in a directory for tranfering.

This can be achieved using filters in recent versions.
