I upgraded my FileZilla 2.0.0a to 2.1.0a but I cannot figure out how to import the old SiteManager I had exported to a .txt file right before uninstalling FileZilla 2.0.0a - I guess that it's not possible anymore. Therefore I would suggest to add the option to /import/ older SiteManager-.txt-files... there is no need for exporting them as well, but just importing.

Adjustable Upload / Download bandwidth limit, and file sorting by file type on remote view, or sort by extension on both sides

First of all FileZilla rocks. Its the replacement to WS_FTP LE that i've been looking for for our public computer labs.

I would be nice for FileZilla to not require a username in the site manager. When you connect to a server, have it check to see if there is a username entered, and if not, open a dialog box that allows you to enter the username and password.

A good example, and reason for this functionality: A lab environment where multiple users use the same computer. You could use the same .xml settings file for every user, and have the program ask for the username and password when necessary. As it is right now, you would have to put a wrapper script on the executable that would parse the .xml settings file and enter the correct username into all the sites.

It would also allow you to connect to the same server without having to alter the username, or creating a duplicate site.

You would still be able to enter a username if you wanted, but if you didn’t enter one, the program would ask you for it when you connected to a site. Basically the same functionality that you have for the password field, but apply that to the username field as well.

Right-clicking an active transfer in the queue pane should bring up a cancel option. Otherwise, there is no way to cancel an active transfer excpt by exiting FileZilla

Should be usefull to have 2 remote connection open at the same time and, then, the possibility of transfert between each other remote server without first manually copy files to local machine for than transfert them to the other server.

¡FileZilla should suport pasive mode! It's not posible to do anything in old ftp sites that require pasive mode, so i think that FileZilla shoud include this feature.

An interesting feature that I saw in FTP Voyager was the SysOp chat -- it let you establish a chat session between you and the server SysOp upon a certain server request.

When you set the number of connections, the legal value is apparently 1-10. However, you can enter up to 99 in the field. Entering 11 or more silently drops it back to 2, but exits the menu.

Could you perhaps make a list button of 1 to 10, or stop and complain if someone enters 11 or greater (or just allow more threads? Though I don't know if more, especially not 99, makes sense).

As a somewhat naive user, I found that I was picking sftp using ssh2 to do my transfers, and the connect was failing to a server set up in a very vanilla default manner. It took me a while to find I had to set the port to 22. In other programs (for example, PuTTY), the default port number changes based on if you pick telnet or ssh protocol, though you can subsequently change it.

The simplest fix would be just to put a text note on the screen like "use 21 for default ftp, 22 for default sftp." But I'd prefer that the transfer type come first on the screen, and the port changed properly to match, though the user could then tab to the port and change it for non-default situations.

Allow user of filezilla to move files to another directory on server

Having to right click files and select edit is very tedious. Being able to drag the file from either pane (local or remote) into another application would be a major improvement.

Also the option to assign what action (ie. transfer, open or edit) double click performs would be nice - and would partially negate my drag and drop request, since I would simply assign double click to be edit file. I would then always use the drag and drop capability already implemented between local and remote panes.

Could you please implement a feature such that FileZilla Server, if not behind a firewall or router, can emulate settings for passive mode in such a way that file requests done in passive mode will pass through?

Please add these features to the server: quotas, multiple ports (ie use different ports for certain user names), and speed limiting (ie saying that a user can only use x Kbps).

I have also tried out other servers like GuildFTPd. It has many features, but its slow, bloated, and has other major problems with it. When i have switched to FileZilla server, I have 0 problems so far.

Are there any plans to support remote-to-remote transfers? with some ftp clients (eg, Novell's Rapid Filer), you can open two remote windows, no local, and perform transfers directly between the hosts without passing though the local machine - as you can imagine if your control console is on dialup, and the two remote machines are both on the same remote site, the time saving there is considerable.

I think that a very fine addition to this great client would be the per-site bookmark capability, as it was in cuteftp... you could quickly jump from a dir to another with browsing the tree... you should save it in a XML db file...

A Feature that I have been looking for a long time is a simple switch in the toolbar to browse synchronously or not. If I wish to, FileZilla executes my directory action on client and server side, so I do not have to click twice everywhere. This is very useful when uploading/maintainning websites, because you alsways have to perform the same directory changes on both sides. Probably FileZilla could also ask to create a directory if it does not exist on both sides. regards, Philip

Please add "home", "change directory", and "make directory" buttons next to the remote directory path field, and the latter two for the local directory.

The home button would send a "cd ~" or equivalent to the remote system.

I would like to see the ability to use public key authentication with SSH, compatbile with PuTTY's Pagent ssh-agent.

I'd like to see the ability to import PuTTY sessions, including the public key information if that feature is implemented.

The speed/bandwidth limit could be a nice feature for people like me that want to set a personal FTP server for interchange files with friends using a DSL/Cable connection. In these environments is almost a need limit the upload speed in the server, because if all the bandwidth is taken by the FTP clients, the navigation and file downloading is sluggish.

I think that a global limit is enough (like in the xitami web server).

There are some cases where you don't need any security for ftp passwords, e.g. because only you have access to the computer. It would be nice to have a checkbox in the Settings called "UnHide ftp passwords". If you check it, the passwords in SiteManager or in QuickConnect become visible.

It would be nice to be able to bookmark different directories on a site, so you didn't have to browse around a large server every time to get from your the login folder to one of the many different folders you always use.

example:

login folder could be the users home directory which he often needs to access, and thus have set up as default.

but same user could often be working in other directories far away in the directory structure. if he could bookmark this he could navigate the server fast and easy instead of as now slow and cumbersome.

Would it be possible to auto-start SSL if it's available without asking the user?

I searched for days, but I haven't found an open source sftp client that doesn't suck. Filezilla is very reliable and I would love to see support for sftp in it!

If you Import Settings ... and point the dialogue at a previously saved Queue ... umm ... well ... it kinda trashes all your settings :(

You could probably protect me from myself. Presumably FileZilla could tell the difference between a Filezilla XML Queue file, and a Filezilla XML Settings file.

The Remote Site directory tree, unlike the Local Site directory tree, does not provide a local menu if you right- click on a folder name to allow you to add that folder to the transfer queue.

It should provide the same functionality as the local file list (including ignoring the current folder and matching the relative paths right-to-left).

Three related suggestions, from my experience of using FZ to do directory synchronisation tasks...

1. Skip-filter. Load up a queue, and filter it so that

files that would be Skipped are subtracted from the queue leaving a list of files that should be transferred. (Would provide an opportunity to prioritise the order of files to be transferred, for instance)

2. Dryrun. As above, but for other File Overwrite

settings. Ability to find out in advance of transfer what would be transferred.

3. Transfer Logfile. Would be handy to be able to

generate a logfile of a transfer session. (Indeed, generate a named file, or append to existing file)

Why don't leave the directory in top of the file listing when we choose the Sort by Last Modified/Date?

The ability to move files either remote or local. I'm requesting to be able to drag-n-drop files on either the remote or local side that will move them to the folder that is highlighted. Currently, I dont even have the option to move files at all.

(I posted this in the public FZ forum some time ago, but there was no reply, so maybe this is a better location).

I would like to run FileZilla server as a service on my web server. But because the users are stored in the registry (hkey local user) it means that it does not run properly unless I am logged in.

If the settings were not stored in the registry this problem would not occur.

Also an XML file would make it very easy to create a web-based configuration console to manage the server.

The ability to browse to the remote and local directories in the site manager would be really helpful. Some of my local default FTP folders are deeply nested and typing them in manually takes a long time.

Otherwise this is an awesome application!!

For me its rather important to be able to save the server screen text to a text file. Actually there should also be an option where it is automatically appended to a log file at the same time it is being written to the screen.

Currently, there seems to be no way to even copy the screen to the clipboard other than "print screen" which is too limited.

BTW... I'm very impressed with both the server and client.

I'd like to use filezilla to connect to a server via ISDN and transfer with compression enabled. I use this option a lot when using SCP and it makes a huge difference.

I think I can see some of what is needed and if you could give me a pointer i'll have a go myself (though I haven't got filezilla to compile yet, i dont have the include file dbghelp.h).

I understand that selecting Overwrite and using the checkbox to always preform the action, but what if I only want to apply it to what's currently in my queue?

A simple option to dump the contents of your queue would be nice.

I would like better control of the grouping of users, for instance I would like to create a group with all its attribs and just drag-n-drop users in to it, making the gropus attributes apply to those users.

And the account GUI should get easier, its not very straight forward when compared to other FTP servers.

In short I would like more control over the user accounts.

A tool to compare filenames of local and remote folder, selecting the diferences.

The Proxy close the connection after 10 seconds. But Filezilla send a keep alive command after min 15 seconds. If it possible to reduce the minimal time to 5 seconds? An other solution, can be to disconnect by proxy, and display the remote site window after the disconnection. Then the user change the ditrectory or transfer a file, filezilla reconnect to the remote server. Sorry for my awful english.

I suggest add language selection to main menu. If a user selected a language that he does not know by mistake, It will be hard for him to go back to the right language. I like FileZilla very much. Wish it get better and better:)

Would it be possible to total up the file sizes for a selection (possibly recursively if dirs are included in the selection) and display the total as a right-click option?

i found out that FileZilla_Server_0_8_2 do not support mdelete or dir with wildcard for example:

dir un*.txt <will not work> mdelete un*.txt <will not work>

Ability to accept a different address from the PORT command, thus enabling the server to send files to a host other than the person logged in.

I was wondering if there was any way to connect to an IBM MVS OS mainframe with Filezilla. In IPSwitch's WS_FTP, you have the option to choose operating system.

The current version doesn't appear to work because it auto-adds the forward slashes in the directory name. The mainframe doesn't like that. Any information you could provide would be helpful.

Having multiple ftp connections with fxp transfers. This would be pretty cool :)

While downloading .avi files from a fellow machine, I sometimes get corrupted downloads. In that case I have to individually select each file and tell it to overwrite.

As the program can check the time stamps and knows the size of the file, I would find it useful if it would be able to compare the two files for a size difference and than use that for the basis of whether or not to make another attempt.This way I could just download the directory again.

This is on a campus network. The files may end up corrupted due to disk space usage and the programs used to free up some space.

Hi, I think that one of the most useful feature of a FTP client is the "Compare directories" one : when applying it, it selects the files that don't have the same size, or the same name in the two explorers (the local one and the server one). It permits not to know which files you have to update on your server. I hope you can understand me, I'm a 18-years-old frenchman :)

I'm an FTP server admin, and I've been trialing FileZilla Client for day2day use. The only thing missing that stops me using it fulltime is SiteManager's insistance on having a username present.

I connect to my sites using a variety of user's

usernames, so it would be useful if you could include logic that puts up a combined username/password box if the username field is blank in Sitemanager. I appreiciate the reasoning for the check, so how about a 'Prompt for username' checkbox in the 'Logontype' section?

I've been trialing FileZilla Server, and have found it to be very fast and stable so far. I have noticed a few things missing, most of which have already been pointed out (users changing passwords, speed throttling, etc.), but I do feel it worthwhile to ask that the server gives a valid responce to the HELP command. When looking at an FTP server for the first time, this is one of the things a site admin (or indeed an experienced user) goes for, to see which commands are accepted, and, of those, which are implemented. Try the command 'quote HELP' from a commandline FTP client to some different servers to see what I mean.

Hi, i use FileZilla server in several computers and I have to also include DirectUpdate for re-setting of my dynamic IP into the dyndns.org Dynamic DNS service, it would be nice to have that functionality on FileZilla Server.

IPv6 support in FileZilla would rock my world.

Right now the double-click action for clicking on a file is upload/download. I think it would be nice to be able to set what the double-click action is.

You have to right-click each file individually then select View / Edit. I want to be able to have multiple files selected and then right click and select View / Edit to View / Edit multiple files.

Bulletproof has excellent Ratio support. It's one of the things I still miss in FileZilla.

To use when a site has a ratio, for example to download 1MB I first need to upload 1MB.

How it works: I have a number of files selected to up and download. The top of the list holds the download queue, the bottom of the list the upload queue. Now when I try to download a file but don't have enough credits, it will upload a file and try again.

Why does Filezilla expand a folder as soon as I select it to download?

I'd really like it when it would just place a folder in the queue, and when it would try to download it, then it would get the list of all files inside and upload or download them.

Of course the files in this folder should then be placed at the TOP of the queue, not on the bottom like Bulletproof does. :-)

A preference of "Files first" or "Folders first" for when there are more subfolders in this folder would also be very nice then. :-)

Currently one can copy all/part of the local URL by selecting, right-clicking and selecting copy. It would be a little quicker to also be able to use Ctrl-C (on windows). I use this to syncronize the live server's directory with my local directory.

It would we great to have the option to remember the sort options in both local and remote directories. I constantly upload/download "latest" files and have to resort by date (descending).

Also, it appears that after the initial connection, FileZilla re-connects during the first transfer. Can this reconnection be eliminated?

Please add the current Transfer Type (Auto/Binary/ASCII) as one of the panes in the status bar. I have often made a mistake uploading or downloading a file with an unusual extention (or none at all) when the current transfer type is set incorrectly. It would be good to get a quick visual reminder of the current setting in the status bar.

I have never seen an FTP program that can do this before but if you could have yours auto detect zend encoded php files and maybe a checkbox in options to turn this feature on or off when the program comes to a file that is php extention it will read the first few bytes and decide whether or not it's zend encoded and then automatically upload it in binary format instead of ascii (like the rest of the non-encoded php files).

Are there any plans to enable the user to have filezilla to force lowercase filenames when transfering to a server? This feature is necessary for me.

It would be nice if the passive switch were moved from the settings menu to individual servers in the site manager list. Some servers require an active connection and some require a passive connection.

instead of navigating to /usr/local/stupid/app/lib/config each time I connect I should have a small drop down with the bookmarks.

Bonus: Options so the bookmarks can receive a meaninfull title to be displayed or display the whole ugly path. In title mode mouse over should give the full URL as tooltip

For all users which try to use Filezilla Server behind a Firewall it would be a great improvement if it would be possible to use a URL instead of a IP in the customized passive settings.

My server is behind a firewall which routes all needed ports directly through to my machine. But clients behind firewalls can't connect to me, because standard passive mode is impossible. With customized passive mode settings everything works great, but my network is connected via dialup. So, my external IP changes relatively often. Changing the settings everytime is very annoying.

Isn't it possible to add an option which resolves a dns everytime passive mode is initiaed, or checks the correct IP every x minutes, etc.

I'm sure, that this wouldn't be a great afford to implement and would be very useful for a lot of people.

Provide a "Duplicate Site" in the site manager window, along with Delete and New Folder. It would avoid to duplicate all datas when having many sites on same server for example/

It is so simple that there is no doc. Just providing a doc that says it would avoid loosing much time looking for it.

I think that a usefull feature will be the possibility for the user to send the program in a sistem tray (such as the windows of download of GhetRight). For long download (such as iso and so on), this command will be really usefull because have the window of FileZilla only reduced for many hour is not so functional (sorry for english, but I'm a italian boy..)

I frequently set a ftp connection going, minimise the client, and continue elsewhere. It also frequently happens that while connecting to a BUSY site (try Red Hat after a new release ;-) the connection is established... and timed out!

I think a good feature will be to let FileZilla to connect to two FTP servers and so be able to move files from one server to another.

This is usefull when you have to admin different UNIX machine and copy files around after you have installed the reference machine.

Your software is really good, but the only one thing that is not implemented and that i need is to created a scheduled task. It could be interesting to say to FilleZilla to execute a download or an upload at a specified time of the day, or someting like that. But i'm patient so i will continue to run my download myself, and i'm waiting for this feature. I hope it will come soon... thanks a lot.

it should be possible to save view Settings. In version 2.1.5, disabling "View->Quick Connect Bar" and "View->Message Log" does disable these items, but only for the current program session. Exiting and restarting the app resets the view to defaults again which re-enables the above items.

It would be very nice if it was possible to synchronize local and distant files in order to update them.

In the next release I would like to have the ability to set the PASV option for EACH site I have listed in my Site Manager.

I am a web developer and use FileZilla as my FTP client cause its the best I have come across. However, some of the servers my clients have chosen to use are flaky when using PASV.

If I could set PASV to be on or off for each individual connection, it would save me from having to change the global setting each time I wish to connect.

An option to exclude hidden files from upload would be most useful for ignoring such large files as Thumbs.db, the automatic index file WinXP creates for folders with graphics. Excluding system files should have other useful uses too.

Could there be a rename option in the site manager ?

it would be nice if remote and local directories could be "locked" to each other, so that changing the local directory also results in a directory change on the remote site

I think there needs to be an options for to set the FTP server to be able to limit the upload and download speed to a certain amount of KB/sec. I know i need it as my line slows down to almost a complete halt when browsing when people are downloading from my FTP server with lines that my upload can barely feed.

It would be great to play a .wav sound on a successful connect. When connecting to busy sites, it would be nice to select the site and walk away and just wait for the connect WAV. Also, after the last retry fails, it would be good to have a different WAV sound. Important: No sound on each individual failed connect attempt while in the retry sequence. That would be very annoying.

Of course, the sound should be browsable.

It would be nice if you could drag a file on a remote server to another folder on that remote server. It would make remote file management much easier.

I have moved to using Filezilla from FlashFXP - which has the option to edit files directly from the server. It downloads the file to a temporary windows directory and launches it in an internal text editor. You edit, save changes - and it brings up a dialog to upload it again.

This is one feature I miss (and still use filezilla for) as it saves time and hassle when debugging php for example.

I consider both client and server to be among the best, my sincere thanks- the client is the only one I use any more.

I've been running the server for a month now, easy, simple, reliable... but not secure.

Are there any plans to integrate OpenSSH or OpenSSL with the server to take a bit of advantage of the already secure capable client (and other SFTP and SCP clients out there)
