is there a possibility to convert between ANSI and ASCII?
Some FTP-clients do have such options.

Exactly how I see it. It's the responsability of the user
tat the files are in the correct format.

ANSI is a standards group.
ASCII is a character set standard.
Probably you are talking about converting between two
character encodings, but I don't know which ones you might mean.
In general, not much can be converted to ASCII anyway, as it
only has 128 characters.
