SFTP lacks compression

Description

It would be nice if SFTP supported compression.
Often I am uploading things like EXEs and PDBs over a relatively slow connection and these are highly compressible.

Could this be joined with #2977 ? Even though one is SFTP and the other is FTP, both refer to dropping compression in v3 client. There are many similar requests.

Lack of sftp/ssh compression is currently the main reason that keeps from using Filezilla all the time.

According to ​this post, it may not be very hard to do. It would be nice to be able to turn it on or off via a toolbar button, as well as set a global default that can be overriden in the site manager.
