Description

Hello,
It seems that MODE Z compression option (available in filezilla 2.2.x) is not available in filezilla 3.x.
The MODE Z seems supported in filezilla 3 as it is accepted when we enter MODE Z in custom command.
Please can you add this option.
Thanks by advance
regards.

How is this a bug? Moving to feature requests.

I would like to see this feature also in Filezilla 3.

Checking back through forums, it looks like botg's position is:
"Mode Z is not needed because everything is already compressed."

The secondary position is:
"Developers are overworked, so only critical features will be included/maintained."

This pretty much means, if we want ModeZ to return, we would need a new champion to provide the patches, and maintain the patches.

I did some research, and it looks like all free FTP clients have dropped Mode Z. CoreFTP still claims it, but it's gone from help and current client. WinSCP does not. etc etc.

FileZilla Client v2.2.32 (2007-04-16) can be found around the web, and that's probably the best temporary solution. My favorite is Portable Apps' sf.net repo:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/FileZilla%20Portable/
This should be runnable under Windows

Also, v3.0 coincided with a move to subversion, so older code is not in subversion. Older code snapshots can be found on PortableApps' sf.net directories:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Source%20%28FileZilla%29/

Note, that the major cause of feature loss in the move from FZ 2 to FZ 3 was because FZ3 is multi-platform (Debian Linux and OSX specifically). This was basically a complete code rewrite. As such, it would not be as simple as copying over the old code into the new tree.
