The height of the transfer queue is increased from where I left it every time I start Filezilla. I started out on 2.2.3 and am currently using 2.2.9. Every version has done this.

I'm using Windows XP and am downloading the binary installers.

My layout has the toolbar at the top followed by the message log. Below that I have the local tree view, local file list and remote file list rendered as 3 columns. Under those is the transfer queue and then the status bar.

It seems that each time I close Filezilla, it edits filezilla. xml and changes the following line:

<Item name="Last Splitter Pos" type="string">95 513 273 109 602</Item>

It reduces the second value by 27 each time, so if I started FZ open with the above line in the XML file, it would change the 513 to 486 when I closed. Next time it would change 486 to 459 etc.

This is a very minor problem but quite annoying because the columns keep getting shorter and shorter and I have to adjust them a couple of times per day :)

I run an anonymous ftp, however some random users are able to create bad directory names (directory names beginning with spaces and with trailing spaces) thus not being able to delete them later. Tried deleting the directory from windows explorer and no dice. Seems bad directory names are made regardless if the MKD command was a valid folder name. Log attached.

The documentation (Help -> Version History, then General Information -> Version History) is not complete. It stops at version 2.1.6.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Deactivate View :: Message Log so the message log

goes away.

2. Open settings dialog.
3. Press OK in the settings dialog without changing

anything.

BAM. Now the message log is visible again.

While filezilla does connect to an os2 ftp server (IBM's supplied server), when filezilla attempts to get a file listing, if fails:

At this point user can't do anything without the directory information.

For some reason the IBM ftp server doesn't like list -a:

The site manager is too big for a 640x480 screen resolution (which I'm restricted to, at the moment). Oh, and I'd also like it if the main FTP window saved it's position setting, local tree view setting, etc...

First of all, I'd like to say, great job so far! I am a fan of open source and FileZilla is looking and working great so far.

I do have a suggestion (several actually, but just one for now): In the site manager, allow each site to have a default local directory so that when you connect to it, the local site pane automatically changes to that directory on your computer.

Here's another suggestion: Have an option for the Site Manager to show when FileZilla starts, or perhaps a simple list of sites in the site manager from which you could double-click one to have it connect to that site. It would save time from having to open the site manager when you start it.

I am using FileZilla 1.4 on Windows 2000, service pack 2.

I think it would be nice if FileZilla followed the windows convention saved the Maximize/Restore settings when you close it. Currently, if I open FileZilla, maximize it, close it, and then re-open it, it doesn't open maximized. This is a nice feature, and I don't think it would be very hard to implement.

It would be convenient if ctrl-a selected all items in the list views (both the file lists and the queue).

It would be nice if you could resize the window smaller that it is now (v1.5a). It take about 75% of the screen and this can get very annoying, particularly when multiply windows are running.

It's quite annoying to "lose" your .htaccess files, and have to start a console ftp program to download and edit them.

It would be nice if there was an option to show them by default.

Ability to create folders within the Site Manager. I have lots of FTP URLS. It would be nice if the list FileZilla did not save them in the registry but rather to a separate file too.

It would really be great if we dont have to resize the window everytime Filezilla is executed. If the window posiiton is maximised, it'd be better if it stays that way on the next execution jus like Internet Explorer.

An option to set how file sizes must be shown would be very appreciated. Currently local files are in bytes, Kb or Mb according to their size, while remote files are always shown in bytes; if both were shown ALWAYS in bytes, it would be much easier for me finding out if a local file is the exact same version of the remote one.

BTW, great program! It's replacing CuteFTP on my system.

I think FileZilla should also remember other settings, besides the window size. For example, it could remember the size of the "frames", I mean, the local and remote file list areas... I always drag the separator to the left because I don't need all that space for the local file list, I prefer seeing the remote file permissions. And also list sort prefs should be remembered, maybe even on a single server scale, I mean... each configured FTP server might have its own sorting prefs.

And so on.

FileZilla does not save the widths of columns in either the remote or local panes.

Every time I restart FileZilla and connect it sets the column widths back to default. And the default wastes tremendous space in the date, time, and permissions columns, resulting in horizontal scroll bars. Every time I have to manually change the column widths back, which is annoying.

This has been around since 1.6 or before, and it doesn't seem like it should be hard to add. It would be VERY helpful.

It would be very nice if the toolbar and quick connect bar could be on the same line, like Windows does with toolbars in Explorer and Internet Explorer. On high- resolution screens there is a lot of wasted space next to the toolbar, and the QC bar would fit in that space just fine. As it is now I don't even display the QC bar because it takes away valuable space in other parts of FileZilla.

A really handy new feature would be the ability to drag and drop the different ftpsite into different folders. What do you think?

I've tried tons (well, mb's)of ftp clients, I'm currently using 1.8 version, the one that has the slight refresh problem, Well to get to the point. I would think it great option to be able to have at the users request, a desktop shortcut for a particular ftp account, ie. ftp.netscape.??? on the desktop to auto open that site when clicked or ftp.mydomain.com, to open my personal domain directory. Make the ability to move sites from one subfolder to another in the site manager.

It would be nice to know to which server I'm currently connected that is to say display the name (from SiteManager) or the address (connected via QuickConnect) in the title bar of the main window.

a dropdownbox for the local site (with the most recent locations) would be much appriciated.

The only thing I'd really like to see is the ability to drag a file to the desktop and have it download it to there, and vice versa (drag a local file to the remote file list and have it upload where I drop it). If I could drag a file out of the Filezilla window to the desktop I'd consider the program just about perfect.

By the way, thank you for a great product! Even without any changes it's absolutely fantastic - thank you for making it available!

It would be great to have the possibility to translate (I prefer from Eng) to other language (in my case Italian) to have menu, messages, labels in the preferred language other than English or whatelse.

A couple additions:

1. Remember the window size that Filezilla was at when

closed for the next session.

2. Remember if the display was modified. E.g., the

Queue section stays closed.

It could be very useful if FileZilla showed the total number of items (files and dirs, separated) in both local and remote dirs. So I could spot if anything is missing from one side or the other, when putting a web site in sync with local mirror.

When some items are selected, it could change to show the number of selected items.

Having to right click files and select edit is very tedious. Being able to drag the file from either pane (local or remote) into another application would be a major improvement.

Also the option to assign what action (ie. transfer, open or edit) double click performs would be nice - and would partially negate my drag and drop request, since I would simply assign double click to be edit file. I would then always use the drag and drop capability already implemented between local and remote panes.

There are some cases where you don't need any security for ftp passwords, e.g. because only you have access to the computer. It would be nice to have a checkbox in the Settings called "UnHide ftp passwords". If you check it, the passwords in SiteManager or in QuickConnect become visible.

Is it possible to keep the modified date of a remote file the same as the file on the local system. At the moment I am having to touch -t all files on the remote system.

Three related suggestions, from my experience of using FZ to do directory synchronisation tasks...

1. Skip-filter. Load up a queue, and filter it so that

files that would be Skipped are subtracted from the queue leaving a list of files that should be transferred. (Would provide an opportunity to prioritise the order of files to be transferred, for instance)

2. Dryrun. As above, but for other File Overwrite

settings. Ability to find out in advance of transfer what would be transferred.

3. Transfer Logfile. Would be handy to be able to

generate a logfile of a transfer session. (Indeed, generate a named file, or append to existing file)

The ability to move files either remote or local. I'm requesting to be able to drag-n-drop files on either the remote or local side that will move them to the folder that is highlighted. Currently, I dont even have the option to move files at all.

I would like better control of the grouping of users, for instance I would like to create a group with all its attribs and just drag-n-drop users in to it, making the gropus attributes apply to those users.

And the account GUI should get easier, its not very straight forward when compared to other FTP servers.

In short I would like more control over the user accounts.

I'm an FTP server admin, and I've been trialing FileZilla Client for day2day use. The only thing missing that stops me using it fulltime is SiteManager's insistance on having a username present.

I connect to my sites using a variety of user's

usernames, so it would be useful if you could include logic that puts up a combined username/password box if the username field is blank in Sitemanager. I appreiciate the reasoning for the check, so how about a 'Prompt for username' checkbox in the 'Logontype' section?

Please add the current Transfer Type (Auto/Binary/ASCII) as one of the panes in the status bar. I have often made a mistake uploading or downloading a file with an unusual extention (or none at all) when the current transfer type is set incorrectly. It would be good to get a quick visual reminder of the current setting in the status bar.

it should be possible to save view Settings. In version 2.1.5, disabling "View->Quick Connect Bar" and "View->Message Log" does disable these items, but only for the current program session. Exiting and restarting the app resets the view to defaults again which re-enables the above items.

Could there be a rename option in the site manager ?

I have moved to using Filezilla from FlashFXP - which has the option to edit files directly from the server. It downloads the file to a temporary windows directory and launches it in an internal text editor. You edit, save changes - and it brings up a dialog to upload it again.

This is one feature I miss (and still use filezilla for) as it saves time and hassle when debugging php for example.

One great benefit of smartftp is that multiple sites can be opened and transfers can be performed between the different sites.

one recommendation: i think it is more likely that people have more files in a dir instead of long filenames. means you have more way to scroll vertical then horizontal.

so it would be more comfy to have the treepane on the left beside each filepane.

ps: if possible, order filetype after filedate(-sortbutton) sometimes filetype-names are quite long, so you have to scroll to the (more often used) filedate.

I'd love to be able to associate sounds with various actions -- successful connection, disconnection, transfer, transfer error, etc.

It would be nice to have the option (off by default of course) to have FileZilla play sounds when various things happen or fail to happen.

The sounds should be user-choosable with some unobtrusive defaults (or maybe even defaults based on language preference!).

This is really nice when you are transfering a lot (or slowly) and have to wait to do X until the transfer is complete.

This is one feature of LeechFTP that I use frequently.

Usually "auto" works, but occassionally I want to

force an ASCII transfer of a file type that I don't want to always transfer ASCII (like ".doc", for example). The "Transfer Type" menu is nice, but toolbar buttons would be even nicer.

Is it possible to add an option below Quick Connection to save information from Quick Connection to Site Manager? I think it's not a hard work to do, but may be very useful for me (and other people).. Thanks..

Having the My Desktop, My Documents, etc in the directory list would be very useful as sometimes I just put an image on my desktop and I Want to quickly upload it. As well, if a user works out of their my documents folder a lot it will allow for quick and easy access to that data, and it follows the Windows look and feel spec a bit closer as well.

It would be nice if the filezilla client and server icons were different, that way when both are minimized to the systray they can easily be distinguished. (maybe just adding an S to the FZ for the server icon?). Also, it would be nice if the client icon changed depending on its connected state as well, maybe red for not connected, yellow for connected but not transferring files, and green for transfer in progress. not major issues, but something that shouldn't be too difficult to do, no?

If I understand correctly FileZilla uses the Mozzilla rendering engine which supports skins. The abiility to alter the appearance of the application and possibly extend it's functionality with custom buttons or menus would be nice.

As someone who rather uses a directory-view instead of a treeview I would really appreciate it if FileZilla could remember the last setting. It is quite a hassle to click on "Show/Hide local treeview" each time I fire up FileZilla. I would guess that this should also be applied to the remote treeview.

Another thing concerns the size of those three parts of the GUI. Whilst the message log most seems to be far to huge to me, directory listing are far to small. And as FileZilla does not remember changes I made to the arrangement I am forced to resize them every time. As within the above point this should be stored when closing the program as well.

FileZilla currently allows to specify only three-digit numeric values to change the file attributes of a file or directory, which means that one cannot set for instance any sticky bits (which require a 2xxx, 4xxx or 6xxx value). Would it be possible to change this in a future version of FileZilla, so that one can set attributes with the standard interface rather than having to use the raw FTP command?

It will be very nice if FileZilla can pop up a little notice box that indicates user one of it's queued jobs has been done.

It would be great to have an icon demonstrate that a SSL connection has been made - much like the padlock icon that appears in HTTP browsers.

I'd like to see this feature implemented in FileZilla. It should go with the site manager. When adding a new site, the user would have the option to specify a default local and remote path for that site only. For example:

SomeJobSite (ftp.whatever.com) -> Default local path: C:\Coding -> Default remote path: /home/someuser/httpdocs

SomePrivateSite (255.255.255.123) -> Default local path: C:\ebooks -> Default remote path: C:\FTP\SomeUser\Uploads\ebooks

I think that it's the only missing thing in FileZilla...

When I first started up FileZilla, it popped up with the Site Manager, and I filled in the site I wanted and went my merry way. The second time I used it, I clicked on the Quickconnect dropdown to connect to my previously entered site. You can imagine my chagrin to find that the Quickconnect dropdown was only a multi-choice button to connect to the address given in the text boxes. Quickconnect should have a list of my sites (optionally with a checkbox in the Site Manager to put them in the Quickconnect dropdown) from the Site Manager.

the current feature when you choose open/edit on a remote file is great, but we could take this to the next natural step...

1) being able to automatically save the file back to remote server. this could be done by splitting the existing "View/Edit" right-click option into 2 separate choices:

view - which would behave the same way as the current feature

and

edit - which would transfer the file to the local system, open the designated editor, and wait for the editor to exit, and monitor the file for modification. when the file is modified, FZ should ask whether to update the file on the remote server and push it back across. it should continue to monitor the file for updates as long as the editor remains open.

2) extend the remote editing feature a bit... you would right-click in the remote server pane, and you'd see a new option for "Edit New File" (or whatever you want to call it) which would basically prompt for a file name, create a new empty file and initiate the "edit" feature as described above.

The tree view of the client machine does not include a Desktop key (the root key, when you browse your windows machine using windows explorer), hence, every try to get or put files from or to the desktop requires looking for it under c:\documents and settings\user name\desktop.

Previously I used AceFTP. It had a transfer files arrow buttons (like -> and <-) between local files view pane and remote files view pane. I think, FileZilla is missing that good feature.

Also the tree view of local and remote is integrated into one list itself in AceFTP, which in FileZilla takes two panes and bit buggy.

The disconnect connection option could have added in toolbar as in AceFTP for faster access.

Shell (like edit with.... , open, properties) could have integrated into the local view pane.

Also, multiple connection option is lacking in FileZilla.

hi, in order to use s/key authentication it would help tremendously to have the password dialog not before the connection attempt, but rather when the server prompts for it. this is because when logging in as user:skey you will get a hint from the server on how to generate your one time password locally, thus not requiring you to remember your s/key id and what sequence number you're currently at, or alternatively having a pre-generated one time password at disposal.

I would love to have a dir sync (both remote->local and local->remote as well as a true sync remote<->local) feture. Curently I just down/upload the entire directory but that overwrites everything, not that it's super bad but it does download things that are unnessassary.

as seen in WinSCP: one click an a directory within identical trees (local and remote) makes a change of directory local AND remote.

For example if you change the directory in remote panel from /home/mprikryl/public_html to /home/mprikryl/public_html/wiki and directory D:\documents\www is opened in local panel, WinSCP will automatically open local directory D:\documents\www\wiki for you.

I would like to be able to specify that files/directories matching a certain mask should not be transferred as part of a recursive upload/download.

This would make it possible to upload/download from subversion controlled directory trees without having to do an export first to remove all of the .svn directories.

If ai start a connection to remote server, close connection and then start a new connection logon windows report parameters of prevoius connection, comprised masked password!! Anyone can connect to last connection.

Remove masked password form inputbox, or don'tet it, when open logon windows.

here's just one little tricky thing I'm really missing in this nice client: a shorcut to the Desktop (bureau in french.. ? ) in the browser of the local folder rather than have to browse through c\documents and settings\...

I have FileZilla version 2.2.17a and noticed that in the local file list there is no primary command (the command that is executed by double clicking on a file) and that in the remote file list the primary command is 'download'. I would like the primary command in both file lists to be 'open'.

A option to keep the system tray icon active would be helpful, especially if you have the hide inactive icons in the windows system trsy option checked.

The arrow next to the site manager icon currently lists all sites in one long column. When there is more than 50 or so sites defined (on my monitor at least) it means you have to hover over the arrows at either end of the column and wait for it to scroll. It would be preferable to cascade the site names across multiple columns within the screen for quicker access.

It would be helpful if there was a mode to toggle 'Synchronised Navigation' - meaning that if you open a subfolder on one side then the similarly named folder on the other side will also open.

Extend the FileZilla client with a file move option (similar to the CTRL-X CTRL-V action in Explorer). In other words instead of having to delete the file(s) in the source directory after the transfer manualy FileZilla could, through a new interface option/menu, perform the delete after transfering a file to it's destination.

I feel its missing a 'Apply'(/ or 'Save settings') button inside the 'Site Manager' window.

The background: When I open FileZilla, I have a specific task ahead of me and want to get it done as quickly as possible. Today I opened it and was faced with the "Update Available" window, so I clicked "Next" just to download the update so I could run it later. Unfortunately, I discovered I had to wait for the entire update process to complete before I could get on with my task.

The request: I would love to see the "Update Available" window only show up when I shut FileZilla down, as then I could just let it go in the background since it wouldn't be interfering with what I originally opened the program to do. The same end would be achieved but would be less intrusive on the workflow of the user.

Hey guys, excellent FTP software! The feature I would like is simple: that the filezilla icon in the bottom task-bar changes color when a file transfer is completed. That way I don't have to keep the focus on filezilla while I am waiting, but instead I can go to the web page and refresh it the moment I see that the transfer is completed because the icon in the task-bar has stopped blinking or changed color or something.

In file: src/interface/recursive_operation.cpp the member variable doVisit is not initialized in the constructor. I'm not sure if it can cause problems or not when the class is used normally, but it might be better to initialize it to avoid weird problems in the future.

Hi folks, It would be cool if it would be possible to have an option FIND (F3 - find next) to find a text within a file in the server. If it isn't possible, maybe in the local site.

I am using FileZilla Server 0.9.31 on a Win 2003 hosted server and FileZilla Client 3.2.4.1. at diffrent clients : again Win 2003 servers I am not managing firewalls at any end.

Since a fex weeks, I am not able to connect anymore to my server. Here is a log :

I have search the forum for solutions but, although I found a lot of posts related to the same subject, none could help me solve my problem. What should I do :

1. Ask changes to be made on firewalls (what end ?)
2. Revert to a previous version of server ? client ?
3. Wait for a new version ?

Will not execute to install.

I am trying to connect to my own FTP server and it works well but I have seen this issue for quite some time and thought I would follow it up. I am using your FTP server also.

I was uploading a 35MB file, and only half of it uploaded. When I clicked resume, it kept saying file transferred successfully, but it didn't. It just stayed half uploaded. I also couldn't delete the file through FileZilla Client.

As of a few versions ago, when I open Filezilla I get an error about not being able to load the filezilla.xml file, so none of my setting are saved. I can't find that file anywhere on my hard drive, so it's not surprising that Filezilla has trouble loading it; but what do I do about it? I've seen this issue on the forums but none of the "answers" have actually helped me. Am I supposed to create the file myself? Can I download the file from the Filezilla website? Thanks...
