#8733 closed Bug report (outdated)

troubling uploading files

Reported by: ybodner Owned by:
Priority: high Component: FileZilla Client
Keywords: trouble uploading Cc: MzFxIt@…
Component version: Operating system type: Windows
Operating system version: 7 Pro, 32bit

Description

I upgraded to and I am using the latest version of FileZilla 3.7.0.2.
Ever since I upgraded, I am having problems uploading files to the server. I am using Windows 7.
Every time I attempt to upload a file, I receive a message saying that the target file already exists, and there is a blank file with the correct name on the server, but it is blank and is 0 bytes. Even though I tell it to overwrite the existing file. It doesn't work.
It shows up on the bottom as a failed File transfer with the reason "Could not start transfer".
Please help!

I'm having the same issue, begain with the 6/10 updates. I wanted to append this ticket to advise that the upload blockages also effects the Windows browser, AND other FTP clients -- I've tried several different FTP clients, and all return the same transaction message: Cannot start file transfer.

So whatever the issue, its adversely affects Windows as well.

Thanks.

Command: STOR Ann Arundel .txt
Response: 550 Ann Arundel .txt: Access is denied.

Do you have write access to the target directory?

Right now it seems like a misconfiguration at the FTP server part. FileZilla tries to initiate an upload, but the FTP server replies with an error.

its my site, there is no other party accessing it, no one even knows about it, its my site, so there are no access rights in play.

i've had this websites for 14 years, consolidated my main 4 into this single one about 6 years ago, been using FZ since it first went public and had no reason to alter my settings between last successful upload on june 2nd and the following week when the first failure occured on june 10. only one person manages the site and that's me, already confirmed with my ip that no updates, data transfers between servers or anything other events/transactions have occured.

what is typical, when i log in if there is an update, it performs that update, reboots, then re-authenticates my logon -- been doing that since grass was dirt. except this time when i went to upload a clien file, it wouldn't and that's been consistent since.

so there is something going on in how that client-side update was configured because nothing else has changed on the desktop. i don't use windows firewall and the one i do use has not changed in config, permissions, etc -- that was the first thing i checked.

thnx.

oh and regarding my ip/vws hosting provider, they had no problem up/downloading to/from my site, and they don't allow automatic updates to filezilla, they do them manually. they had not performed any updates in june and so their version worked just fine.

i don't have any quota issues, i have umlimited space, have only used 205 mg, so comparitively, i haven't event scratched the serface yet. that is the only thing that could automatically prevent write access, so again, its something with the FZ client.

Which version of FileZilla are you using? What is a "6/10" update?

As you said it affects all other FTP clients as well, this is not a problem with FileZilla but with your Windows, the FTP server or any security solution you are using.

The file is called "Ann Arundel .txt", maybe it works if you remove the space at the end of the name, right before the ".txt" extension?

a) i'm using your most recent update, there have been two recently. when i launch fz it automatically installs the most recent update then reboots. it did that on 6/10 then again about a week later, so you tell me what the release is and which release may be the culpret. filezilla_3.7.0.2_win32_setup.exe installed on june 10, it was the first update since my june 2nd upload. filezilla_3.7.1_win32_setup.exe installed june 16th with the same results.

for the record, i unintalled the last release, did a system restore to may 31st, reinstalled FILEZILLA.3.6.0.2_WIN32_SETUP (because i save the download files) and I have uploaded and transfered just fine.

b) there is nothing wrong with windows, i restrict windows updates and implement the ones required/desired and i do that quarterly, so i won't be doing that again until next month and its incredibly hard to believe a windows updates implemented in in April will all of a sudden decide it doesn't like filezilla and block it, even more so since i dont use windows firewall, i use kaspersky and its manually configured.

c) kaspersky is IS/Firewall security and it cannot have a resource as both trusted and blocked, it has to be one or the other. and since i'd already checked its settings -- which have it a where it always is along side office, adobe, etc as a trusted resource, its specific config is unchanged, that again, its HIGHLY unlikely that given is permits me to log on, download, it would then decide, "OH" lets block her uploading anything to a private server no one else knows about or has access to just because we can.

Oh, "6/10" means 2013-06-10 (16th June).

"The upload blockages also effects the Windows browser, AND other FTP clients -- I've tried several different FTP clients, and all return the same transaction message: Cannot start file transfer." - You stated that.

Can you elaborate on that? So no FTP client worked anymore? How is the current status? You have FileZilla 3.6.0.2 installed and it works, and other FTP clients work as well? And as soon as you install FileZilla 3.7.1, you cannot transfer anymore, neither in FileZilla nor in any other FTP client?
