Upload of modified file doesn't work for non-default program

Description
The capability to upload a modified file appears only to
work for the default program to edit/view files. For
example, I have my text editor as the default program.
If I modify a .txt/.log/.ini file on the server, when I save
and close it asks if I want to upload the modified file to
the server. I also have an association for .xls files to
excel. I am not prompted for the automatic upload if I
change one of these files.
If, however, I set Excel to be my default program and
set up the .txt/.log/.ini files as non-default associations,
the behavior is reversed. Excel files will prompt me for
automatic upload when changed, but the text files will
not.
It just seems like it should work for all files, whether
they are opened by the default view/edit program or not.
Thanks,
Sammy

The whole edit functionality has changed in FileZilla 3.x
Same behavior here. Tested using PHPEdit by Waterproof.fr
and Notepad++. When edited by default program, changed files
are asked to be re-uploaded. When edited on a
per-extension-basis, no questions are asked.
Thanks.
