Expired certificate cannot be trusted

Description
The box for trusting a certificate in future sessions is greyed out when the certificate received is expired (at least, I presume this is why the box is greyed out).
The decision to trust the certificate in this case should be made by the user, not by the application.
It would not be untowards to request additional confirmation of the trust in the case the certificate is expired.
By the way, what happens when a trusted certificate expires?
