Local and remote site boxes are black;. Cant see current folders!

Hello,
I have the same problem since a lot of time.
The boxes switch to black only when connected to remote site.
My OS is 10.13.6 : is this OS in cause ?

As previously mentioned this is a bug in macOS.
macOS 10.13 is extremely outdated. You need to update to a more recent version of macOS.
This is a known bug in some older versions of macOS, the solution is to upgrade to a more recent version of macOS. Which version of macOS are you using?
