#11433 closed Bug report (rejected)

Freezes the whole OS when resizing the top panel

Reported by: teo8976 Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: FileZilla Client
Keywords: freeze, mouse Cc:
Component version: 3.15.0.2 Operating system type: Linux
Operating system version: Ubuntu 16.04

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  • Click and Drag the border that separates the log panel on top from the local and remote folder panels below.
  • Drag it all the way to the bottom until it can't be farther down, without releasing the mouse button
  • release the mouse button

Expected: obvious
Observed: the mouse cursor remains in the form of an up-down double arrow (resize icon), even if you move the cursor out of FileZilla's window. Nothing responds to clicks, neither in FileZilla nor IN THE WHOLE OS. All mouse interaction is frozen.

You cannot even close filezilla. The only way out is to open a terminal via a keyboard shortcut and kill Filezilla from the command line!!

A fundamental design principle of all modern operating systems is preventing one single program from taking down the whole system.

Please contact your operating system vendor for assistance as there's something fundamentally wrong with your system.

Yes, there's something fundamentally wrong in the OS if a single buggy application can take down the whole system, and I'm going to report that issue to Ubuntu, but that doesn't mean that the bug in the application doesn't exist. Why the fuck did you close it??

FileZilla here is obviously not managing the drag-n-drop correctly. The OS can and should prevent that from affecting the rest of the system but it can't magically fix the bug in the application.

And how can you consider the severity "normal", when this makes the application stop responding?
