Malware installs with FTP Client

Reported by: Christina Helmke Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: FileZilla Client

Component version: Operating system type: Windows
Operating system version: 7

Description

I recently installed the FTP Client. After this I had an application called "super optimizer" installed and running without my authorization or having installed this application knowingly myself. I can only surmise that it came with the Filezilla installation. It blocked access to my desktop by displaying a dark grey window which could not be closed.
Removing the Super Optimizer was difficult because it infiltrated a lot in the Registry. I like to install the FTP Server as well but hesitate to do so with the above experience.
Are you aware of this Super Optimizer possibly being installed with FileZilla free downloads?

Hi,
How did you recognized "Super Optimizer" runing?
I opened ticket #10290 2 hours after you.
Myself I was unable to install FZ but at least to start the execution of the installer on one of the computer, which is not mine and far from my home.
I don't feel comfortable if I installed a malware on this computer that I can't manage easily.

It seems you have accidentally agreed to a third-party offer while using the SourceForge Installer. You should be able to remove all third-party via Windows' Add/Remove programs dialog. Please contact the third-party vendor for further assistance.

While the SourceForge Installer may present third-party offers, they are clearly labeled as such. All third-party offers can easily be declined via the big decline button in the bottom of the window. Nothing unwanted is being installed without your consent. Declining offers does not prevent nor otherwise disturb the installation of FileZilla.

If you do not wish to use the SourceForge installer, have a look at the additional download options listed on the FileZilla website.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
