#1952 | Auto-Update on changed files | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | duplicate
Description |
I build webpages and have to update them to the server to test them. If the option is selected, the client would regularly poll the files (date/time) in the current directory and compare it against the remote directory (date/time). If the file on the client is newer, it would auto send the file to the server. Thus you could just save a webpage, and not have to do anything with FileZilla to get it to update. Email me if you need more details, jeremy(at)lpirlet(dot)net |

#1955 | Last Modified File Sort | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
When you sort the Files by Last Modified it should still keep the Folders at the top instead of mixing everything up based on when the Folder was created. If you still want to sort the Folders by when they were modified then that's fine, but don't you think they should be kept at the top of the window? It's impossible to find a folder when you have a directory full of 1,000's of files! Very annoying. :( I hope you can fix this. Thanks! |

As moving from server - hdd- another server can take forever for us dialup users. |

#1967 | edit files with same name simultaneously | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | outdated
Description |
I'm using filezilla to maintain code on a distant machine. I always have to propagate modifications on every version of the program, thats why i have to work on files which have same name, but are in different directories (/v0.1/, /v0.2/). This cant be done since the View/Edit feature first copies the file locally and then opens it. Editing files with same name leads to "file already exists" message. It would be great if the download process could rebuild the directory tree locally before editing the file... Thank you |

#1969 | Unix / Windows Line Endings Choice | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Is it possible to have as options on Upload and (seperately) Download of an ASCII text file (eg .html) the Choice* between using (a) Unix Line endings LF or (b) Windows Line Endings CR LF Using FileZilla 2.2.1b on a Windows Me PC client, it appears FileZilla uses exclusively LF for upload (strips CR) and download. The Server (unix or windows) ought not care which line endings are used; browsers know CR, CR LF, and LF are equivalent for rendering purposes - the advantage to using the same line endings on both client and server is (1)At a glance comparision between ASCII file byte counts on upload or download - good confidence test etc and (2)Windows needs the CR for editing purposes if you download a text file - (unless one wants to look at the "black square" phenonmenon in Notepad etc.) Thank you
Mac CR Binary mode automatically preserves byte count |

#1971 | treeview sort | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
While there are settings for adjusting the sort order for the file list, it seems that the treeview always has an arbitrary sort (the directories). It would be nice to be able to adjust this setting so that when looking at mirrored directories, the local and remote treeview is congruent, making it easy to find the folder which requires transfer. |
|||||
#1972 | auto-open directory on single click (local) | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
Currently in filezilla, when you click on a remote directory in the treeview, it opens the directory in the file list pane and expands the directory in the treeview. If you do this on the local treeview, it only opens the directory in the file list pane and does NOT expand the directory in the treeview. This is both an inconsistency and a nuisence (or to be more positive, it would be great if it worked this way ;) |

#1975 | Play sound (.wav) after transfer | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
First off, I love your work! Please consider adding an option to play a .wav sound upon completion of a transfer (for both individual files and for the entire queue). I frequently upload big files (several MB), and playing a sound would be a great way to notify me when one finishes to I do not have to check repeatedly. #1978 | Edit remote file | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
If you choose "Edit File" for a file on the remote server, the file being edited should be downloaded, opened with associated program (or Open With") and ask/automatically uploaded (by remembering the file date/time and doing a comparison) to the remote server each time the file is saved on the local machine (or if easier, when you exit the editor). A prompt asking the user "The file has been changed locally, do you want to update the server with the new file?" should come up as a confirmation. |

#1981 | User profiles | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
Filezilla is a very cool file transfer application but it seems to lack a feature surprisingly trivial: user profiles. All users share the same bookmarks that are stored in a system wide configuration file. On my home PC there are two users and this is impractical to find my own bookmark mixed with the other user's ones, figure it in a more etherogeneous environment like scools, universitie or offices... IMHO it should be better and *safer* having them stored into user's document folder (it can be found, for example, by inspecting USERPROFILE or HOMEPATH environment variables), and eventually check for a common configuration file (for default values or shared bookmarks) into Filezilla installdir or more consistently, into the path specified by ALLUSERPSROFILE environment variable. |

#1983 | Connection settings stored in file | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
mac@… The only thing I have found missing in FileZilla is a way to save the connection settings to a file. I have lots of connections, and it would be great if these could be exported. That way I could quickly give these to another person, or back them up and restore them easily. There already is a way to export interface settings to an XML file, but not the connections. |

#1989 | client: Override IP used in PASV connect | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Servers behind NAT may give the wrong IP when they give the host/port info in their response to the client PASV. I just experimented, and I can simply substitute the original server IP instead of using the one the server passed in the response. I think this would make a nice option. I'm seeing this matter when the server's NAT gateway can fix the outbound info in unencrypted channel (so I have no problem there), but the server's NAT gateway can't fix it in encrypted channel, so I can't connect unless I hack the code in CFtpControlSocket::List to switch IPs. I think it would be nifty to have an Advanced option something like "Use original Server IP in PASV connection" for this case, to avoid having to hack in the cpp code myself :) I might be able to submit a code patch for it, if I can (a) figure out the original server IP (which shouldn't be hard, but when I was hacking, I knew the server IP and just put in a hardcoded one, so I didn't solve this part), and (b) figure out the GUI stuff (probably much the harder part). FtpControlSocket.cpp, v1.76 circa lines 1306-1309

#2017 | Legacy FS Support | Feature request | low | FileZilla Client | outdated
Description |
My father uses an ancient FTP server as part of his job. His FTP server supports accessing directories using slash for a delimiter, but the files he wants to access are not accessible via this method. His directory change request must follow the pattern "CWD 'QW.U.SNOW.ALL'" for example, and the server responds normally. Unfortunately, FileZilla wraps this in slashes when he tries to change directories in the "Remote Site" pulldown. If possible, add a server-by-server option to specify directory delimiters, or to set the directory raw rather than parsed. |

#2018 | upload/download buttons with arrows | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
As an ex ws_ftp user I find filezilla superior in nearly all aspects. Two things that I miss 'though:
background while I'm working on something else and I minimise my ftp client. A .wav to confirm that the transfer is complete (or there has been a problem) would be very useful. Some people may find sounds annoying, but they could always be switched off...
arrows in ws_ftp that sit between the server side and PC side files are more intuitive than double clicking or right clicking to transfer. Thank you for all your work! |

To avoid the download of the documentation (for example if the user is currently off-line, or if the user is a system admin who needs to install FileZilla on several PCs), the user need to activate the "local directory" checkbox and set the directory where the requested ressource (ZIP file) is. #2029 | Choosing default action for double-click: edit OR transfer | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
One feature I miss from WSFTP was the ability to choose the default action for a double-click on a file. You could choose between transfering the file (as is currently implemented in FileZilla), or simply opening it for viewing editing. I check my log files every morning, and often just want to see a file's contents rather than download it, so for me, view, not transfer, is the preferred default double-click action. I also thing that transfer is the more "dangerous" action, so having it as non-default means I have to think for a fraction of a second more before I up/download a file. |

#2049 | Overwrite options -> Where file size is larger | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
One thing I've seen in other FTP clients is the option to overwrite where the filesize is smaller or larger. This is useful in conjunction with the option to download based on "last updated" date. Sometimes file transfers will break and the client's error detection will fail. Having the option to overwrite based on filesize is also good when files on the client have been changed, but you still want to overwrite them with files on the host side. Sometime, files on the host will have a newer "last updated" date than on the client, without having actually been changed (they were only touched), and therefore overwriting based on date causes a lot of unnecessary transferring and overwriting. |

#2050 | drag and drop | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I've read through the last 100 or so feature requests, and this hasn't popped up, (though I imagine it has been requested before). This would be a great feature for us windows users, as it allows us to forget about the local tree view and use explorer (from run) to find the directory listings were interested in. Although the most recent versions have enabled drag and drop into filezilla, this is only really half way effective, (as again, it does not remove the necesity of the local tree view). I love the program, and use it, but this is the sticking point for many other users in my communities. I've told them that one of my favorite filezilla features is the involvement of the developers, and the community. Thanks, I hope I can see this implemented in FZ3!. I'm dying to see it released. thanks ANDERS |

I get this in the log Command: CWD Uploads Response: 250 CWD command successful. Command: PWD Response: 257 "/Uploads" is current directory. Command: PORT 192,168,2,2,7,55 Response: 200 PORT command successful. Command: TYPE A Response: 200 Type set to A. Command: LIST Response: 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls. Response: 550 .: Access is denied. Error: Could not retrieve directory listing Command: PWD Response: 257 "/Uploads" is current directory. It looks like it changes to the Uploads folder successfully but when it gets the error retrieving the directory listing it puts me back to the parent folder. If I try to copy a file to the Uploads folder I get errors I think it should stay in the uploads folder even though it could not retrieve the directory listing. I have tried this with some other ftp clients and they do work as I expect them to. It would be great if Filezilla could do this too. You can try this yourself by trying to upload a file to ftp2.mtxinc.com/uploads Thank you Richard Speiss rspeiss@… |

#2090 | deactivating the timeout | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Deactivating of the timeout would be a good solution for the following problem. For example inserting a 0 for the timout or a check button to activate / deactivate. Our network is behind a proxy server. Requests of files from an FTP-Server will be downdloaded by this proxy server. After a virus check the proxy sends the files to FileZilla. The download of huge files (40 MB and more) will be abortet after the maximum timeout of 999 seconds (~16 minutes) because FileZilla have to wait until the proxy has finished his job. |

#2109 | AceFTP vs FileZilla (interface) | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
Previously I used AceFTP. It had a transfer files arrow buttons (like -> and <-) between local files view pane and remote files view pane. I think, FileZilla is missing that good feature. Also the tree view of local and remote is integrated into one list itself in AceFTP, which in FileZilla takes two panes and bit buggy. The disconnect connection option could have added in toolbar as in AceFTP for faster access. Also, multiple connection option is lacking in FileZilla. |

#2110 | Adding a file filter | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
A file filter addition to the filezilla would be appreciated. right now if there are too many files in the directory there is no way to filter out the file except trying to find out visually. e.g if I just want to see the file type with the sql extension there is no place to specify this as of now. |

#2114 | Exclude CVS and Dreamweaver directories | Feature request | low | FileZilla Client
Description |
Often developers use CVS to maintain their HTML projects but the do not want to transfer these CVS informations to the production server. Therefore I suggest to hide these - and other optional files - in the local view. Other directories and files that are not neccessary to transfer are e.g. Dreamweaver template and library files (directories /Template and /Library) |

#2117 | Allow local filesystem to be another ftp server | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I would love to see if the "Local filesystem" on the left hand side could be another ftp server. This way I would be able to transer files from one ftp server to another ftp server without having to down load and then re upload the files. I believe that this can be accomplished in non-passive sessions. Filezilla would connect to server a, and server b. Issue the transfer command to server a but specify server b IP, then issue server b to port command to accept server a's request. I do not know if this is too complicated and if it is only available to ftp. At minimum it would be nice to connect to two ftp servers and have filezilla maintain "tempory" files while the transfer is happening. |

#2118 | Allow to switch off or hide local view | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | duplicate
Description |
It would be a nice improvement if one could switch off local view so that only remote view remains visible. This is quite useful when using drag and drop with Windows Explorer to upload and download files or when just organizing files on the server. Then, the local view is unnecessary and it would be nice if it would be possible to switch it off (including local tree view, of course). |

#2125 | Remember remote site paths per site | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | worksforme
Description |
Hi, It would be very useful for FileZilla to remember the "remote site" drop down per site, between sessions. This is so if you regularly navigate to a number of remote directories all the time, FileZilla will remember these for each site you connect to. Perhaps FileZilla could remember the last 10 or 20 remote paths, say, per site, and also allow the ability to "pin" some remote sites in the list so they act like favourites. Thanks, Andrew Weiser |

#2128 | Stopping server connect before LIST should disconnect | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
In the FileZilla client, when a user attempts to connect to a server, if the user aborts the connection before or during the LIST command, FileZilla should disconnect from the server. The user most likely wants to cancel connecting to the server entirely. Also, without the remote file/folder list, there is little the user can do (without manually refreshing the remote list, which requires such intuition) except upload to the default remote folder or enter raw FTP commands. |

#2129 | Retry Time Countdown | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Hi, One feature (apart from timestamps :-)) that FileZilla is lacking is a countdown showing how long it will be until the next reconnect. eg. I may have the settings set at retry 999 times every 90 seconds, but at 72 seconds I may want to connect by hand. This isn't possible with the current build of FileZilla. Speaking of retries, I tried to set my retries to unlimited by entering 0 but it didn't work so I assume this isn't implemented either? An unlimited retries option would be nice :-) Thanks for a great FTP client! |

#2130 | number of simultaneous file transfers -> per-site setting | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
hello, Normally I have the "number of simulataneous file transfers" configured to something higher than "1" - E.g. when I'm connected to an SFTP server. By setting it up to something like "5" or "10", I usually get shorter transfer times and very important: I can continue browsing directories while still downloading. But then it happens to me that I connect to a normal FTP server which has a limited number of simultaneous connections (often only "1"). Therefore with every file which newly starts downloading from the queue, filezilla attempts to open another connection and causes the FTP server to produce an errormessage like "530 You are already logged in maximum times." Then I temporarily have to change the "number of simultaneous file transfers" in the general settings manually, which I often forget to change back to higher values for the next SFTP transfer. Furthermore some FTP servers tend to kick or ban users when they attempt to open more than 1 simultaneous connection. My suggestion would be: Create in the site manager for each site a new field which stores a "manually setted number of simultaneous file transfers" for each site. if left empty, it will be setted to the default number in the general settings dialogue. thanks again for this excellent software! bye, stephan loh |

#2133 | cr-lf translation between win and linux | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I am moving this to this area (was incorrectly posted on the support request area, sorry). The line ending bytes are different for text files on windows and for those on linux type os [cr vs cr,lf]. A nice feature some popular ssh and ftp clients have (ssh.com, FTPExplorer) is to translate appropriately these text files when ASCII file transfer (either Auto based on extensions or Forced) is in effect. This makes it possible for almost all text browsers on both win and *x side show the file correctly on the respective os. Please add this feature to FZ file transfer. If such an automatic translation is not desireable for some users, then may I suggest adding another preference setting to do this translation. Thank you! |

#2135 | View/Edit to keep temp files until prog exit | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Hi I use FZ for loads of things, but one task I do more than others is to read lots of log files. The view/edit facility throws this into my favourite editor - ultraedit. Ultraedit itself can open files by ftp but the file browser is clunky. But when a file is passed to UE by FZ, FZ then appears to delete the file. UE notices this and pops up a warning message - file has gone, close it? Contrast this when doing the same 'view' operation using WS_FTP. Nasty interface, but the temp file stays there until WS_FTP is closed, and then it cleans up. You don't get any warning messages pop up while loading logs & reading. It would make life easier for some text viewers if the cleanup was able to be switched between per-file and per-session. Thanks for the great program anyway. ftp.me.stendek@… |

#2140 | comand line run and shutdown... | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client

#2141 | ask login detail | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
When I use Filezilla at work I must connect to the same ftp server with different login. So I must create in connection manager different site configuration (one per user) with only user name different. It's usefull to have a login question when you press a connection definition, so you can declare ftp server with a predefinited user and when use this definition the client prompt you for user (with default) and password. Thanks and bye. |

#2148 | Enhancement to logging | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
I would like to see the the logging feature enhanced to include the following information upon the successful completion of an upload or download: date/time stamp at completion, file name transferred, the total number of bytes, the time it took and the transfer rate. In a corporate environment, this information in invaluable when you are asked to prove that an upload was completed successfully. |

#2152 | More debug for sftp failures | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
It's great that FileZilla automatically retries, and resumes file transfers. But there are an unusually high frequency of sftp failures which I don't see as often when using ssh.com's "SSH Secure Shell for Workstations". If you could add some additional debug/trace information, maybe we could get the putty/psftp folks to fix this. Status: Starting upload of D:\My Pictures\p15.png Command: PUT p15.png D:\My Pictures\p15.png FALSE Response: Uploading D:\My Pictures\p15.png to p15.png Error: FzSFtp.exe was closed, terminating connection. #2159 | Tabbed instances | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
Maybe I'm not fully aware of the intricacies of FileZilla but it appears that when you log on to a site to download (for example) you need to open another instance of FZ to head to another site (I'm a heavy pipe user :)) It would be great if you could implement a tabbing feature so only one instance of FZ needs to be open but I can log into multiple different ftp's simultaneously. My screen gets somewhat cluttered and it is not always clear what site I'm looking at when I expand the instances from the tray. thanks Mike Smith P.S. Love the SW. Been a user since version 2 |

#2161 | Support other FTPS PROT command options | Patch | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
Per RFC-2228 supports four arguments to PROT: C - Clear -neither integrity nor privacy S - Safe - integrity without privacy E - Confidential - privacy without integrity P - Private - integrity and privacy As of release 2.2.8c of FileZilla, if you specify a remote site as server type "FTP over TLS (explicit encryption)" (or "over SSL") the client sends "PROT P", specifying to encrypt both control and data connections. There should be an option in the client to choose the level of protection you desire. Some FTP servers (such as WS_FTP Server) now support allowing a clear command channel after authentication for compatibility with FTP application gateways/proxies found in firewalls and NAT devices. |

#2162 | Output Negotiated Cipher Suite for TLS/SSL | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | fixed

It would be very helpful to have the negotiated cipher suite for TLS/SSL included in the logged output for the client server communications. This would help to diagnose encryption level requirement compliance. |

#2168 | Support Ipswitch WS_FTP Server CCC Command | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
Ipswitch WS_FTP Server 5.0 introduced a new command "CCC" ("Clear Command Channel") which is issued immediately after authentication to signal that the command channel should no longer be encrypted. This allows for secure authentication via explicit FTPS, while also allowing firewall FTP application gateways/proxies to correctly handle passive connections (as they can now see the passive response from the FTP server behind them). Currently, only Ipswitch's WS_FTP Pro client supports this command. |

#2172 | File Extension Conversion | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client

#2182 | feature requests | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Hello, FTP Navigator (http://www.softwarea.com/ftp.htm) has some very nice features FileZilla ought to imitate. (Meanwhile, FTP Navigator has proven to be unstable in my use, hence my interest in FileZilla.) In FTP Navigator, when you open the program, you're presented, in the right pane, with a list of all your servers. You can click on a server to establish a connection, or you can highlight a server and change its properties. Here's where it gets good: In the properties for a server, you can specify both a starting remote path and starting local path. That way, when you click on a server to connect, the appropriate directory on your local machine opens and your preferred default location on the remote server opens. This is a very nice time saver -- and I can't imagine it would be hard for FileZilla's excellent developers to incorporate. In FileZilla, by contrast, you have the option to have the program remember your last location on the local machine, but you can't associate different starting locations on the local machine with different remote servers. I also prefer having the servers right there in the right pane when I open the program, rather than operating the quick connect pull-down provided in FileZilla. Another nice feature in FTP Navigator. There's a text file containing all your server connections and the properties for those connections. That way, to transfer your connections and properties from one computer to another, you just take that text file and copy it to your other computer, and put it in the appropriate place in the program folder. This is great for synching your desktop with your laptop -- especially if you have lots of server connections to keep track of. Regards, Ryan |

#2193 | Custom location of site manager xml | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client

Just a thought, but it would be quite handy if I could share a single site manager xml file with multiple users on a network drive.
