#12962 'Check for FileZilla updates Automatically' option is not being respected by program. Bug report low FileZilla Client rejected
Description

Hi team,

I have my version to not to check for updates, and yet everytime I start up FileZilla it tells me there is an update available.

I'm running FileZilla 3.62.2

We run it on computers that need admin access to update and so it's just an extra step each day to remove the pop up prompt.

Cheers, Steve

#4130 'Connection closed by server' message partway through FTP, but session continues Bug report normal FileZilla Client rejected

Hi,

About 52% of the way through FTP of a 35Mb audio file, FileZilla returns a 'connection closed by server' message and yet the FTP session continues. The moment the FTP is completed though, the session is dropped. You can see the message about 12 lines from the end of the attached file:

#9318 'Overwrite if newer' overwrites file even if they have the same timestamp while uploading. Bug report normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Using version 3.7.3 the options 'Overwrite if newer' works correctly. However, after upgrading to version 3.7.4.1 all files are overwritten even if the files have the same timestamps.

I tested it with identical directories and files. First I uploaded files with version 3.7.3. Everything works as expected. Only files that actually were newer got transferred. Then I set-up exactly the same files and directories and use version 3.7.4.1. All files were transferred, even the files having identical timestamps.

I also noticed that the files have correct identical timestamps in the treeview (see attachment for just one file).

Settings the server timezone offset +1 solves the wrong file-overwrite behavior. However then the times in the treeview are not displayed correctly.

The logging for transferring 1 file that has identical timestamps at both the server and the client (test.txt) looks as follows:

#10914 'Show detailed log' makes FileZilla unresponsive, no recovery Bug report normal FileZilla Client fixed
Description

Observed on my machine, reproducable 100% of the time:

Reproduction:

  • Open FileZilla on OSX
  • Connect to a host
  • Open de Message log tab
  • Right-click on the log, and click 'Show detailed log'.

Observed:

  • No detailed log appears.
  • After maybe one or two seconds, FileZilla becomes unresponsive (beach ball appears) and it doesn't seem to ever recover from that, no matter how long I wait.
  • Only killing the application makes it go away.

After killing FileZilla, OSX gives me a crash report which I'll attach.

#7284 'failed to write xml file' Bug report normal FileZilla Client duplicate
Description

Hi there, I have an ASUS Eee PC, Netbook (1G RAM). I only recently installed filezilla and did so under the instruction of my web hosts -- who say they are quite familiar with the program. I have successfully made several connections to their server and uploaded files onto it. This is the primary reason I installed the program. The last three times I have started filezilla, a series of error messages have been popping up (see attached images). I have to click 'OK' on the boxes, of which there might be anything up to seven or eight. Two or three appear as the program opens and three always appear at the end of the session. This doesn't seem to be affecting my ability to connect to the remote server; I have performed a test connection and uploaded a file to check. I'm just wondering is this an omen of worse problems to come. Thanks, Kath T Today I also downloaded the newest version of filezilla, hoping the problem would stop, but it didn't. I just started up and shut down filezilla and have taken screenshots of every error alert I have to click through; errors 01.gif and 02.gif appeared at the beginning and the rest at the end. I have checked to see the destination folders in the error messages and the files mentioned are there, but I don't know much about what the messages mean.

Description

I noticed a new feature in FileZilla 1.9.6: The 'reconnect' button remembers the password. But for security reasons I don't save the password on my disk, I always type it in when FileZilla prompts me. The problem is that FileZilla even 'saves' a wrong password so that I have to quit and restart it. A solution would be to remember the password only if it was correct i.e. we get a '230 user logged in' during login.

After a while FileZilla on host1.tld gets disconnected (timeout) so I hit the reconnect button. But now FileZilla tries to connect to host2.tld which is wrong. The password seems to be remembered correctly as it cannot connect properly to host2.tld as I get a login incorrect so I assume that FileZilla sends the other right password for host1.tld.

#139 (1.9.8) SFTP not working? Bug report normal Other
Description

Our server was switched from normal ftp to sftp. But I cannot login with FileZilla 1.9.8 using 'FTP with explicit encryption'. All I get is following:

Status: Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:22 ... Status: Connected with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:22. Waiting for welcome message... Response: SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.1p1

(nothing happens for about 5 minutes...)

Error: Timeout detected!

But when I use another client from <http://www.ssh.com/products/ssh/download.cfm>, it works... A bug in FileZilla or maybe a server mis- configuration or something totally different?

BTW: 'FTP with implicit encryption' doesn't work at all and normal FTP says the same as with explicit encryption.

#171 (2.0.0a) site manager: export/import bug Bug report normal Other
Description

There is a bug in the site manager! Following steps should reproduce the problem:

  • create a new site with 'SFTP using

SSH2' as server type

  • export with all details
  • clear list

import site manager list

Now the server type isn't 'SFTP using SSH2' as it should, instead it is 'FTP over SSL (implicit encryption)'.

An employee on Mac and I (PC) both upgraded this morning. Now all transfers fail. When trying to send a new file, it creates the instance of the file with a zero kb size on our remote server, then repeatedly tells you it already exists (apparently the zero kb version) and asks if you want to overwrite, repeatedly, without ever overwriting or allowing the transfer.

  • transfer speed per connection
  • transfer progress in %
  • sort user display by ip or account
  • group display for windows xp
  • the pane layout can be switched horizontal/vertical
  • pane layout setting, pane splitter position, filename

display setting and user sorting settings are saved to the options file

tested under windows 98, 2000 and xp.

I did a trial install of 3.0.9.3, but uninstalled it when I was unable to find these features. Are they hidden? Or did they get dropped in the recode from 2.x to 3.x? In any event, please restore them so I can use a current version of FileZilla.

As of fileZilla version 3.35.2 the -s and --site-manager command line parameter switches do nothing when specified after the program path and name (out side of the ending double quote) in the properties box of a windows 10 desktop icon. I expect that the -s and --site-manager switches should display the site manager dialog after fileZilla starts.

#1576 ... and a few more while I'm at it Feature request normal Other
Description

Hello again,

Have been playing with the program a little more since the last message and would like to ask for the following:

  • choose a wav file to play when the program connects

to a site. Similarly, choose a sound to play for disconnecting and for completing an ftp session

  • I found an inconvenience: on the Site Manager,

pressing DEL will erase the currently selected site even if all you wanted to do was to delete a character when editing one of the fields. Deleting a site should only be executed if the site tree has focus

  • when connected to a site, the program's title bar

should display the name of the site instead of "FileZilla version xxx" (or at least have it somewhere on the title)

  • on the Site Manager again: new folders are sorted

aplhabetically, but they should appear at the top of the list, before individual site entries. Also, have an option to sort or not sort the entries

  • another thing there: when creating a new folder, it

is not possible to drag existing entries into it, so I have to manually copy them - not convenient really

Once again, thanks for this great program - I'll probably be back for more wishes...

  • on the Site Manager, would it be possible to have

some text space for each site where one could simply record a few notes?

Thanks

I also have enabled my server to "Force showing hidden files". I have this working on other machines but I have not been able to get it working since I reinstalled Win XP Pro. This isn't the end of the world because you can manually transfer a file but its kind of annoying when it used to work.

#1320 .html file becomes unformatted Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I use filezilla for all my purposes on 4 different websites.

However, for a particular type of webpage (our result files which are html), whenever I use filezilla, the whole page becomes unformatted/corrupted once uploaded, and shows all chinese fonts.

Because of this I have had to use another ftp software for the past one year, just to upload our result files, where that software works fine. For the rest of the html, asp, php etc. pages on the website filezilla works fine and I have had no issues with it for the past two years.

I am attaching an html file for your verification. Ours is a linux server. The websites where I have tried this out have been both on windows and linux servers but this problem persisted over the years.

it is consuming all my web space, and I have some ISOs to upload. my uploads take days to complete at 384kbps. so this may be causing filezilla to leave large garbage behind.

please change filezilla to remove the . in front. that should do it. Also, please fix the bug that leaves the trail of garbage on uploads that last several days. thanks. thanks

by the way, it doesn't matter what ftp client I use, I can't delete them. I suppose that's a server issue.

#5049 .txt file not recognized as ASCII for transfer Bug report normal FileZilla Client invalid
Description

I recently noticed that a .txt file from a Unix machine was download as binary to a windows machine, even though "txt" is in the ASCII file list. The file is named like filename.20091204.165157742.txt. I am guessing that the reason for this is because it sees the text after the first "." as the extension and not the text after the last "." as the extension. I would contend that only the text after the last "." should be looked at for the extension. This is consistent with how windows works (don't know about other OSes).

#3524 .xml file problem Alexander Schuch Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I use a media player that uses an .xml file for the playlist. I tried uploading three instances of the player to some webspace last evening. None of the three would work. I have another instance of the player on the space that I had uploaded probably with a 2.xx version of FileZilla. I finally traced the problem down to the playlist which is an .xml file. When I was reasonably certain that the problem was with the .xml file I got FireFTP and uploaded my playlists with that program. The players all work with playlists uploaded with FireFTP. I have two computers and I tried with both computers. To check I uploaded the files using FileZilla 3.0.10. All the players broke again. Reuploading the files with FireFTP fixed the players again.

My Computers both run Windows XP Home OS. They are Core 2 Duo computers with 2GB of ram. I had version 3.0.5 running when I first encountered the problem. I checked for updates and updated to 3.0.10. I have attached one of the .xml files. I did not download one of the broken ones to compare.

#699 /reload-config only works when logged in Bug report normal Other
Description

I want to be able to use the /reload-config option for FileZilla server to reset passwords without stopping and re-starting the server. On multiple Windows platforms, it worked fine if I was logged in and ran it manually from a command prompt. I run an SSH session using PuTTY and it did not return an error, but it did not work either. Then I tried using the command line scheudler (AT command) and that did not do the trick either. I was thinking it might be a user privelage level, even though I did not get any access denied errors. Then I tried wrapping the command into a service written in c# running with admin privelages, no luck there too. My end goal is to create an ASP.NET page for resetting password. The class performing this would ideally invoke the "FileZilla Server /reload-config

BTW: FileZilla is awesome and it rules!

#1214 0.9.22 still doesn't do PASV behind a firewall properly Bug report normal FileZilla Server
Description

I've seen similar bugs opened and closed in this bug tracking system, usually blaming the router, but I think that this is still a problem in the latest version of Filezilla Server 0.9.22. Here's what I did to demonstrate this.

Inside a router firewall, I set up two servers, one WinXP with Filezilla 0.9.22. The other was a CentOS server running vsftpd. The router was set up to pass ports 20,21 as well as ports 1024-1033, with the two FTP servers configured accordingly.

Outside the firewall, I had two Unix servers, one running CentOS, and the other running FreeBSD.

The FTP client on the CentOS system speaks PASV mode only. When the router was set to point to the CentOS system behind my firewall, then things worked -- the 227 response provided my public IP (of the router), and two port numbers, which when multiplied together, provided something in the specified range of 1024-1033. However, when the router was redirected with the same rules to point to the Filezilla server (differen LAN IP only), then I could log in, but I could not execute an 'ls'. Looking at the Filezilla server log, a correct 227 response to the PASV mode command was entered, but apparently never properly received by the CentOS FTP client. So it hung until the connection timed out.

On the other hand, the FTP client of the FreeBSD server outside the firewall speaks EPSV, which seems to work fine with both the CentOS and Filezilla servers behind my firewalls. With EPSV, the port number to use is transmitted premultiplied together.

If the router were to blame, it would not have handled the CentOS system behind the firewall properly either, would it?

A log file of the CentOS client trying to connect to the two server is attached.

#12682 1.3.0 server crashes Bug report normal FileZilla Server fixed

Hi, while I can't repro on demand (yet), I am having server crashes. The error suggests it's a memory access violation (Sig[6].Value=c0000005) I was running a VERY old version of the server. I recently installed 1.3.0 and since I did, I get the same crashes on both servers.

I am attaching the windows crash report. Happy to provide any more data that i can.

Server : windows server 2022 standard ram: 8gig configured, utilization never jumps over 50% of the ram cpu: 4 cores When they crash, only a single client is connected, uploading via single thread.

#73 1.8 pasv mode freaking out ftp servers Tim Kosse Bug report normal Other

When i try to upload with 1.8 in passive mode, i get an error:

Status: Starting upload of c:\Program Files\FileZilla\license.txt Command: TYPE A Response: 200 Type set to A. Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (12,x,2,11,56,16). Command: STOR license.txt Error: Transfer channel can't be opened. Reason: The requested address is not valid in its context. Error: Upload failed

On the logs for my ftp server (g6) i see:

STOR license.txt asked to upload 'license.txt' in 'd:\' --> Access

allowed.

PASV aborted uploading 'license.txt' in 'd:\' -

(17:42:41 - -0.001 KB - 0.000 KBytes/s).

227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,0,2,40,123). TYPE A 200 Type set to A. LIST PASV 426 Cannot retrieve. Failed. Aborting 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,0,2,249,189).

Compared with 1.7b (which works), there was no PASV command issued after STOR. It just goes straight to "data connection." That has to be the reason it's messing up.. right?

I tried it real quick to upload to a proftpd server and i got the same error.

I hope it's not just me.

thnx

#657 100% CPU usage and lock-ups while resuming large downloads Bug report normal Other
Description

Upon resuming an FTP download of a large file, Filezilla takes up 100% of CPU usage on Windows 98 SE, and mouse pointer movement gets extremely sluggish. After the connection is established, all returns to normal. If the download fails, Filezilla will retry the connection, and upon resuming it again the problem happens again but worse: the system seems to lock up completely for about 60 seconds (sometimes more, sometimes less). Most of the times, the connection is established and the system becomes responsive again after that lock-up period, but sometimes the lock-ups require a hardware reset.

If more than one large file are being downloaded, the lock-up caused by one transfer can make the others fail, so that they in turn lock the system up and make the first resumed download fail too.

This only happens when the resume position (the parameter for the RSET command) is large enough. Resuming the download of a large file on a position near zero doesn't cause any lock-up.

I guess (without looking at Filezilla's source) that there's some blocking call being made while Filezilla waits for the remote server to seek() to the RSET position.

In case that this be a server-dependent bug in Filezilla (I don't think it is), here's an example: I've experienced this problem while downloading the Mandrake distribution from many of the USA mirrors (for example, http://www1.mandrakelinux.com/ftpredir.php?url=ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/Mandrakelinux/official/iso/10.0/i586&tpc=mirrors-iso-Mandrakelinux-10.0-Official-inst-i586.txt ). This is a 700 Mb file. And for the record, Filezilla was run on a 400 Mhz AMD K6-3 processor.

#102 2 GB limit on file size ? Tim Kosse Bug report blocker Other
Description

Hi folks,

I have been using Filezilla for somme weeks now (version 1.8.1, on W2K) and there seem to be a file limit at 2 GB for the files that we can transfer or even catalog. Since recognizing this, I have tried other FTP client: leechFTP, WS-FTP LE, Smart FTP, even the DOS FTP client of Win2K seem to have the same bug, whereas Windows commander succeeded to the transfer, only restarting the counter at 0 every 2 GB, but at the end I had my 11 GB backup.bkf file transferred correctly. I have looked at the release notes for version 1.9 and 1.9.2 and searched with the keywords limit and GB but did not find anything on that.

Sincerely yours,

Good evening,

my ISP lets me connect to his FTP server with only *one* connexion.

  1. I launch Filezilla, choose my ISP FTP account

as if Filezilla attempted to make a second connexion : my ISP FTP server systematically answers : upload forbidden, you already have an active connection.

#1858 2 features from WS_FTP wanted Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Moving from WS_FTP, I like filezilla a lot. But I miss 2 features.

  1. Having a drop down history list of local directories. It

looks like this is almost there, since there is a similar list on the remote side. I find I'm ftp'ing from 2 or 3 local directories constantly, and it would be nice to not have to keep typing them in.

  1. I would prefer transfer arrows, rather than double-

clicking.

Please accept praise for Editing a remote file: once I associate gvim with the file view/edit, editing just worked. Several other programs I tried said they did editing, but after bringing up the editor, the changes never got saved on the remote side.

FYI: I also tried the free AceFTP, which has these, as well as a bewildering combination of other unnecessary features. I did like the ability to have open FTP connections to two different machines, and switch with GUI tabs, but it kept crashing and was really just too complicated.

So while I campaign for my desired features, I do appreciate the basic simplicity and cleanliness of filezilla.

#93 2 probable bugs Bug report normal Other
Description

The first, when I delete something in version 1.9 final, not the new 1.9.1 version (going to test this one now), the file would remain there, a refresh problem like in the prior version, except now it deals with deleting.

The second, when I try to upload a file it crashes the client, using windows 2000 pro, tried to upload a 1kb htaccess file in text format and it crashed, it's not really reproducable so I don't know the problem, so... and I am going to 1.9.1, will see if this one fixes it and the other.

#7993 2 thread timing issue on transfer to empty directory causes overwrite dialog Bug report normal FileZilla Client outdated
Description

When transferring a whole directory to an empty directory on a 1GB/sec network, I will randomly get the dialog box to confirm overwrite of the existing file. (Remember that the target directory was empty originally.) I believe there is some kind of logic problem in the way the two copy threads decide which is the next file to copy. I notice this most when one thread is working on a large file and the second thread is working on a bunch of very short files.

Thanks in advance, Brian Bulaw

#830 2.2.12a File Listings Broken Bug report normal Other
Description

After upgrading to 2.2.12a, file listings are now inconsistent. I'm using explicit FTPS (FTP with TLS) and after I connect, the directory listing I receive is incomplete. If I refresh the listing, I get a different result almost every time I do so.

For example, I should see 5 directories off of the root of the FTP site, however on first connect, I'll see some random number of them like 3, 2, or 4. If I refresh the list, one of the other directories may pop-up (or mabye not), or one may disappear from the listing. As I said, it seems almost random.

As an additional FYI, this is against Ipswitch WS_FTP Server 5.04 Hotfix 1 (which was working fine with FileZilla 2.2.11; I think with exception to the recursive delete problem I logged in this bug forum long ago and I think has not yet been fixed).

I don't know if this is the SourceForge's problem or yours, but since it's happening on at least two different mirrors, I'm guessing the problem is from the upload. Please check, as I would like to download the crash fix soon.

#1215 2.2.30: Can't start SFTP process, FzSFtp.exe "missing" Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I recently upgraded from 2.2.29 to 2.2.30. 2.2.29 was working flawlessly before the upgrade. Immediately after upgrading, SFTP stopped working. Upon trying to connect, FileZilla would report in the log window:

Error: Can't start SFTP process. Please ensure that the file 'FzSFtp.exe' is in the same folder as 'FileZilla.exe' Error: Unable to connect!

It would then retry several times with a pause in between tries. All attempts would fail. I went to my FileZilla installation folder (C:\Program Files\FileZilla) and verified that the program FzSFtp.exe did exist. When I opened a command prompt in that folder and manually executed that command, I got:

C:\Program Files\FileZilla>fzsftp Program too big to fit in memory

No configuration changes were made between the working version of 2.2.29 and the upgrade. Downgrading back to 2.2.29 let FileZilla start working again, so I'm assuming something changed in 2.2.30 that broke FzSFtp.exe. I was able to reproduce this problem on two different systems (one XP Pro SP2, the other XP Home SP2).

#3276 2GB limitation for uploading via SFTP Bug report normal Other
Description

I am using ubuntu 7.04 and I have filezilla 3.0.0 beta 7. When I try to upload to my openssh server via SFTP it works fine, but if the file is above 2GB it will tell me that the file is already there and ask me if I want to overwrite, which if I do the same question just re-appears. I installed GFTP to see if I'm able to upload the 2GB file and I am able to upload it without a problem, so that I could determine that the problem was with filezilla and not the server.

thanks in advance

#3406 3.0.5.1 error loading xml file filezilla.xml Bug report normal Other
Description

ever since I think 3.0.5.1 I get this error dialog box:

error loading xml file Could not load "C:\Documents and Settings\Jim\Application Data\FileZilla\filezilla.xml", make sure the file is valid. For this session, default settings will be used and any changes to the settings are not persistent.

the default settings as referred to are the same as what are in my xml file it looks like.

when I examined the xml file, it now contains 6k worth of spaces instead of 6k worth of xml.

essentially, something in filezilla trashed my xml file. possibly it was the upgrade process to 3.0.5.1?

#3439 3.0.8 freezes on every ftp upload attempt Bug report normal Other
Description

I updated from 3.0.7 to 3.0.8, and now FileZilla freezes uploading just a single small (6kb) text file via ftp.

filezilla.exe and lsass.exe cpu usage each rise to about 8% "System" process cpu usage rises to 14%

It does not get as far as listing the upload in the queue, or logging any ftp commands related to the transfer, though it does say "queued files (1)". It's like it fails doing something with the source file, and is retrying thousands of times a second.

The text file being transferred is on a network drive (DFS) on a Samba file server. A previous version of the file exists on the destination. I'm running XP.

Description

On opening a remote file in an editior filezilla constantly pops up the dialogue box 'File Has Changed' without there actually being any changes. Clicking yes re-uploads the file and closes the dialogue box, but as soon as you navigate away from the filezilla window (ie. Alt Tab) the 'File Has Changed' Dialogue pops up again, Both Win XP & Vista have the same issue.

#3621 3.1 dosn't check FileEdit update Bug report normal Other
Description

On FileZilla 3.1 when i click edit a File and change something in it, FileZilla doesn't recognize.

Then when i upload it manually (with "show files currenctly beeing edited" -> upload) then FileZilla thinks everytime File was edited and would like to upload it (every second or something like this).

On FileZilla 3.0.11.1 it works correct.

Have updated from 3.0.11.1 to 3.1 and not newly installed Working on Windows XP Pro SP3
