#5356 Limit concurrent downloads/uploads in Site Manager new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

The number of concurrent downloads/uploads can be limited globally in Settings/Transfers; in Site Manager there is only the option to limit the number of simultaneous connections.

Site Manager should include options to limit the number of concurrent downloads/uploads.

#5365 Cannot convert from the charset 'Unknown encoding (-1)' reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. install FileZilla-3.3.2.1 on Windows 7
  2. Run filezilla

=> error dialog: "Cannot convert from the charset 'Unknown encoding (-1)'"

Note: I reinstall (& restart Windows), or use the zip 3.3.2.1 version, or the zip 3.3.2, 3.3.1, 3.3.0 version => still show the error dialog. Though, I can still ignore the dialog & use filezilla to up/download files.

#5366 Files downloaded after a file has been modified server-side report incorrect total size new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

If you load a folder in FileZilla, modify the file on the server (adding bytes is where I encountered it), and then download the file, the size of the file in the download queue uses the cached file size.

For example, I recently did this:

  • Started downloading an ISO onto my server via wget
  • Loaded the folder the file was being downloaded to in FileZilla to wait.
  • When the file was done transferring to my server, I initiated the transfer from server to my computer.

The size of the download in my queue was ~1.0gb while the actual file size is over 2.0gb. Therefore the progress is reported as 100% at 1.0gb while there is still at least 1.0gb more to go.

Just an annoying issue with what I assume to be the cached information on the file from when I initially loaded the folder.

#5396 Remembering overwrite action for current tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Pretty much what I described here: http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?t=16418 (+tnx to boco for his comment) FEATURE REQUEST: When transmitting a file that already exists, you get the overwrite/skip/etc dialog, with the option "Always use this action", and sub-options "Apply to current queue only" and "Apply only to uploads" (or only to downloads if you're downloading). How about adding another sub-option: "Remember for this tab", which would remember the action for the current tab only (i.e. until I close the tab or entire program). Or perhaps make it "Remember for this tab/server", i.e. it should also forget the action when I connect to a different server within the same tab. This would be REALLY handy when I'm connected to a server, and drag some files in there every few minutes (which happens quite often when I'm incrementally updating a site or server or backing up stuff or whatever). I hope you will consider adding this... It would definitely make my life easier and I'd love FileZilla even more!

#5398 missing down-arrow next to Site Manager (Linux compared to Windows) new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

As ticket #4817, but with Filezilla 3.3.3-rc1 compiled from source, Ubuntu Linux 10.04, Gnome 2.30.0. The two filebrowsing windows' column bars, those draggable bars to reveal more or less of the file name, modification date, filesize, filetype etc are not visible. I can still mouse over where they should be and click and drag them to reveal more or less of a filename though.

Also, there is down-arrow missing on the Site Manager button on toolbar far left.

Screenshot included.

#5399 Encryption cipher selection policy new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, In my company, a server has been patched, and since, I cannot connect it with SFTP with FileZilla. I had the same problem with PuTTY. But with Putty, I was abble to modify the cypher from AES to Blowfish, and it solved the problem.

However, in FileZilla, it isn't possible to change this option.

I mean it could be very great to had this functionality, isn't it ?

regards, JM

#5400 Remove/Add file extension new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I use FTP between Windows and MVS(zOS). On MVS it's not allowed with file extensions. See my example when I try: /* Kommando: STOR 'TST1U.TU545.TLNSRCE.NEW.NEW(POW900SD.EXP)' Respons: 501 Invalid data set name "'TST1U.TU545.TLNSRCE.NEW.NEW(POW900SD.EXP)'". Use MVS Dsname conventions. Feil: Critical file transfer error */

It would be really helpfull if I add to a list all file extensions who should be removed for that server. Eg. .CBL, .COB, .SQL, when files with this extensions is tried transferred TO my server it should be removed. It could also be helpfull with a conversion when transferring from MVS to Windows. Eg. a list with dataset filter to a fileextension, *COBSRCE*=>.CBL, *DDL*=>.SQL.

#5404 More flexibility for file editing associations new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I want to be able to say just eg

Or have like

html php css py /usr/bin/geany

Users with spaces in filenames can quote the path or use a delimiter for the extension list.

#5407 retain permission settings new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

It would be extremely handy if there was a way for FileZilla to retain the permission settings for files copied from one place, so that it could restore the permissions to the original settings when those files are uploaded to another server.

#5411 regex based file selection/manual file selection with check boxes within a directory. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

This is a feature request to have a toolbar, to be attached to either local or ftp site windows, that would allow regular expression based search patterns to find a file, a group of files, or folder within that directory and filter to show only those files found.

This regex filter toolbar would have to be an 'always active' filter and modify the currently listed files via a local cache of the directory as soon as characters are typed into this filter. Currently softwares like Directory Opus support this feature.

This regex filter toolbar should not include in its actions filtering of subdirectories, or files within subdirectories, but only what is listed.

This toolbar can also be settable as a preference option to work in 'AND' mode or 'OR' mode with existing 'Filename filters'

In addition, ( 2nd feature ) if a checkbox could be allowed next to all filenames or folders in a listing to manually select/override the regex filter selections using a mouse. These selections would be remembered prior to right clicking and adding to queue.

#5419 Automatic resend of queued file when sending to mainframe new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm having a problem sending some files to an IBM mainframe system. Sending small files causes no problems, only larger files. After initiating a transfer to the mainframe, the connection (over what I guess is port 21) is dropped after about 2 minutes, but the file transfer continues anyway. When the transfer is finished, the mainframe shows a successful end message on the log, but FileZilla then restarts the transfer and keeps resending the same file until manually terminated. This seems to be related to the dropped connection during the transfer as it doesn't happen for smaller files where the transfer finishes before the drop of connection. As mainframe file transfers often are difficult to test, I should be able to provide a test environment for you to help debugging this problem, should it be necessary. The official FileZilla 3.3.3 is being used.

#5420 Another win file name upper/lower case issue new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

To reproduce (windows only, probably):

  1. Pull up a local directory / FTP site where local files == remote files
  2. Right-click a local file and select "edit"
  3. Rename file, changing case only (i.e. foo.js => Foo.js)
  4. Change something in the renamed file and save

Result: filezilla's "File Has Changed" feature uploads the file using the old filename (i.e. uploads foo.js rather than Foo.js, even though foo.js no longer exists)

#5425 New feature - Transfer log export new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Transfer log export to any format would be useful for reports and to check if the files has been uploaded, when big amounts of files are uploaded to number of servers. Also comfortable for reporting to colleagues.

#5432 Simultaneous connections error new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla Client Version: 3.3.3 Build date: 2010-06-13. I did a search on Simultaneous connections and found a couple old tickets that gave little info and said they were fixed. However, I had an older version (don't recall how old) that did not have this problem but I'm now having it with the new update which I downloaded today. To best describe my problem, below is a log of my exchange with support with my host. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the log file as logging was not on by default as I discovered when I hunted trying to find the location of the log. I've changed that setting so that I'll be able to provide a log in the future. So the snippet will have to do for now.

By the way, I will be posting a couple of feature requests based on my experience with this problem (haven't yet looked to see if already requested). 1) Under menu item Transfer, you have Process Queue but no Stop Process and no Erase Queue. Both are needed. 2) A way to synchronize the contents of a local folder with the contents of a remote folder.

I've gone back and forth with the TicketSubmissionGuide and my ticket, and hope that I have followed all the guidelines correctly. If I've left something out, please ask.

Jul 01 2010 17:18 Q: Kathryn at Gwens I'm using the most current version of filezilla to do some uploads to http://babcockancestry.com/SS2-o/exhibits/. I've been successful in getting some uploaded but not all. Here is a typical part of the error log. Note, I'm the only client connected, and the password is right (or I wouldn't be able to get some of them uploaded), so what's going on?

Jul 01 2010 17:23 A: Support24 Hello,

Please make sure that you set your ftp client to operate in passive mode (PASV) and that it is limited to a maximum of less than 5 concurrent connections. The log shows that the client manages to reach the maximum number of concurrent ftp connections. We have killed the current active connections for you. Make sure that you update the settings of your FTP Client prior to uploading new files.

Best regards, Support

Jul 01 2010 17:39 Q: Kathryn at Gwens "Limit number of simultaneous connections" has checkmark, and "Maximum number of connections" was set to 5 and I've changed it to 4. It already had it set for PASV. I've totally stopped the ftp and Filezilla and started over, double checking the above settings. Now I can't get any further than this:

Response: 331 Password required for babcock Command: PASS Response: 530 Sorry, the maximum number of clients (10) for this user are already connected. Error: Critical error Error: Could not connect to server

Jul 01 2010 17:41 A: Support24 Hello,

You had reached the maximum number of connections again. We have killed them for you again.

Best regards, Support

Jul 01 2010 17:43 Q: Kathryn at Gwens Why is this happening and what can I do to prevent it? Jul 01 2010 17:45

A: Support24 Hello,

If your FTP Client is not able to control the number of initiated connections we assume that this could be caused by a bug at the application. At the present moment you have only one active connection to the server.

Best regards, Support

-end support transcript-

Subsequently, I got up to the max # of connections again.

#5433 Stop Process and Erase Queue new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Have FileZilla Client Version: 3.3.3 Build date: 2010-06-13

Under menu item Transfer, you have Process Queue but no Stop Process and no Erase Queue. Both are needed.

I was transferring several hundred files and had a simultaneous connections issue that made it necessary to stop the process and erase the queue and Server > Cancel Current Operation, as well as Server > Disconnect, were both dimmed out. Even at that, I would think that Stop Process and Erase Queue would intuitively be under Transfer.

#5436 Remote directory listing does not refresh after upload new Bug report high FileZilla Client
Description

Uploaded file appears in remote directory listing only after reconnection

#5438 View/Edit stops working new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

View/Edit menu item from the context menu on a remote file stops working on the second attempt on the same file, if currently openned localy.

Step to reproduce :

1 - Select a remote .csv file and View/Edit from the context menu; 2 - while the file is still open, try to view/edit again the same remote file 3 - On the prompt that warns you that file is openned, select the second option «Delete local file and download again» + Ok. Another warning shows up. 4 - close the local file. 5 - View/Edit again on the same remote file. Nothing open, nothing download. And no prompts.

other useful info :

  • View/Edit however still works on other files.
  • I couldn't reproduce this issue using .txt files and notepad or ultraedit; seems like a file exclusive access issue not being reset properly.
  • Remote server is unix RHEL4, using vsftpd
  • client's server detection is automatic, transfer type automatic;

Restarting Filezilla fixes the issue, so it's little to deal with. However, less technical users might have an harder time figuring out what's going on.

Keep up the good work !

Regards, jsgervais

#5456 Total of transferred files should change when you change transfer tabs new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

On the right-down corner, I read "Queue: xxx GB". When I change the tabs of the transfer box, from 'queue', to 'not transferred', to 'successfully transferred', the label should change.. The size should be updated referring to the specific opened tab. I.e.: i change to "successfully transferred" and the label should be replaced with "Transferred: yyy GB".

#5459 Priority File Transfer List new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

I would like to see an option/filter where you can set in which order files should be transferred in. All files are transferred according to the priority list and if the file/files doesn't match it get transferred after the original file order.

Really hope that this will be added in a near future since it will make this good ftp client a lot better

#5461 Directory Comparison Not Reporting Properly For File Size reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have been using Cute FTP for a long time, but wanted to try FileZilla. Cute FTP also has a directory comparison feature. When comparing files by file size, I have no problem with Cute FTP. However FileZilla marks all my files as different. This might be because of the way the file is stored in Linux compared to Windows.

For example, 788KB size file on my local Windows machine is 763KB on the Linux server. But the files have identical content. Cute FTP reports the files as the same ( as it should ), but FileZilla reports them as different, which may be technically correct, but is also useless.

So I suspect that Cute FTP is taking into account the way the files are stored in its comparison algorithm, while FileZilla is not. Cute FTP also has a checkbox for "Ignore Letter Case". Perhaps that has something to do with it.

I'm not sure how to classify this issue. Maybe a bug or patch request. Either way, no matter how it is done, it would be nice if FileZilla would compare the files in a manner that determined if the file content is different or not ( because that is the point of the exercise ).

Date comparisons are not sufficient for this. File size works well, but there may also be other ways.

I can duplicate this issue all day and send screen shots of both CUTE FTP and FileZilla doing exactly the same task, where FileZilla is all salmon red ( indicating different ) and Cute FTP is normal, indicating no differences ( as it should ). Screen shots are attached.

Also, when Cute FTP identifies different files, it pre-selects them so that you can simply drag them as a group over to the other side. That would be a really handy feature.

Apart from these issues, FileZilla seems excellent, and once these issues are resolved, I would be happy to send a donation and reccommend that others do the same, as well as post a link for it on my website.

Thanks

#5464 Possibility to edit temporary file location/structure new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, it will be awesome, if you provide any possibility to be able to edit the temporary file structure (the temp. file directory is /tmp/fz3temp-1 for linux)

For example you can provide some keys like;

%remotehost% %remotedir% %filename%

and a possibility for the users to configure the temporary file directory like;

tempdirectory = /home/myname/ftpcache/%remotehost%/%remotedir%/%filename%

All the keys and configs are fictional. I have no idea about FileZilla's config. structure etc. Bu I think my point is clear...

With this possibility I will never need to use another FTP client and/or FTP plugin (the same functionality is provided by Notepad++ with FTP Synchronize plugin installed)

Thank you... Mahir

#5465 Queued files window slow to update when enabling speed limits accepted praveen Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When transferring at least two files in parallel from the filezilla client to an SFTP-server and I enable speed limits by using the right-click menu at the bottom right, the queued files list freezes. During that time all transfer bars and speed indicators are frozen and do not update most of the time. For short periods of time the indicators may unfreeze for a few seconds until they freeze again. If speed limits are disabled then the queued list is unfrozen.

#5467 Different default options for Remote and Local files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be nice if the user could set different default actions for double click on remote files. For instance, a double click on a local file would upload it, but a double click on a remote file would edit it.

Thanks for the great software!

#5471 Windows explorer context menu option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla Client Version: 3.3.3

Operating system:

Name: Windows XP (build 2600, Service Pack 3) Version: 5.1 Platform: 32 bit system

I would like to be able to have a windows explorer context menu entry to send a file to a specific site in the client. This feature can be seen in the commercial product CuteFTP Pro - http://www.cuteftp.com/cuteftppro. This feature allows you to right click on any file within windows explorer and you see "upload using CuteFTP" A sub-menu then lets you select a site profile to send the file to.

#5477 If transfer is interrupted, Automatic Shutdown enabled, Queue is cleared. 3.3.3 new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When you set the program to shutdown after the queue is completed, and something else interrupts the transfer (in my case, the ftp server went down) FileZilla shuts down the computer, but it also wipes the queue. I had a queue that would have taken a couple days to complete, but it's wiped clean. Rather frustrating as I'm about to go on a trip.

At minimum, there should be a setting that tells it to keep trying until the queue is completed.

#5483 Filename filters rules new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

A nice improvement to the Filename Filters feature would be to add another option/condition to the rules: "Skip items matching ...".

This feature would not hide the files matching those rules, but only highlight them in a different color (gray) or font style (line-through).

This feature would actually match the "Skip list" feature from FlashFXP.

#5485 Drag&drop from FileZilla to Nautilus (and Desktop) in Gnome doesn't works new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Using Gnome, if I drag&drop a file or folder from Desktop or Nautilus to Filezilla, files are uploaded correctly but if I drag&drop from FileZilla to Desktop nothing happens.

It's very useful for backup purposes, making a copy of server files before overwrite with new ones...

#5490 Bad behavior with changing priority while adding files to queue new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Select a remote folder with lots of subfolders and start to download it. Filezilla will go through each folder and add files in the queue.

Right at the start, when only about 10 files were in the queue I selected approximately the last 5 and set them at high priority. As these were downloaded, Filezilla kept going through folders and adding to queue.

When those with high priority finished, Filezilla continued with the files below those completed (that were added to queue as I selected high priority to those ~5). Setting the first few files to High priority to have them transferred didn't change anything, Filezilla insisted on continuing with the ones set at Normal priority, that were added later on browsing folders recursively.

#5493 Problem while copying from Unixfolders to Windows with casesensitive filenames. new Patch normal FileZilla Client
Description

Problem: On Unix FTP-Server you have a file called "Team.htm" and a file called "team.htm"

If you copy file "Team.htm" everything is ok. File will be listed local. If you then copy file "team.htm" and press cancel in the overwrite dialog to abort, the operation will abort BUT in the list of the local files the entry "team.htm" will appear.

#5494 Command line argument - Process Queue new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It'd be great to have a command line argument to process the existing queue, i.e. after starting Filezilla Client, Transfer (menu) --> Process Queue.

This would allow very basic scheduling, e.g. delay transfers to a time when the bandwidth isn't needed for more important things.

Thank you for considering this request. :)

#5498 Compare remote files from two servers new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have the need to compare file between two remote servers (instead of local vs remote). You might be wondering why I can't just download the files from one server to compare against another. The answer to this is Linux filenames... some of the files differ in case only so downloading them means some files get overwritten.

#5519 Support for five-button mice new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

On five-button mice (e.g. Logitech Laser MX400, Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical and Comfort Mouse 4500) there are additional buttons on the left (IME, MX400) or either side (IMO, 4500) that by default function as Back and Forward in major browsers and other software.

I'd like to see FileZilla adopt Outlook 2003's behaviour where these mouse buttons cycle through your folder history. For example, in Outlook, if I press mouse 4, I'm taken to the previous mail folder that I was in, with the last message I viewed in that folder highlighted. When working with synchronised browsing in FileZilla and multiple folders, this could prove a very handy way to switch between several folders.

At present, mouse 4 is configured to go to the parent directory of the working directory, which does not match any expected behaviour of mouse 4. For example, the Back/Forward mapping of these buttons is supported out of the box with Windows XP, without any additional mouse drivers; likewise, out of the box support for Firefox, Thunderbird (previous/next message in history), Outlook (previous/next mail folder in history), Internet Explorer and Opera among others.

Mouse 5 appears to do nothing at all.

#5523 Keep the focus on last file selected while changing tab new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

When i work on a website i used to update 4 or 5 files at the same time. Thanks to the tab system, i do not have to walk throught different dir in my website tree. Unfortunatly when i come back on a tab (ctrl + tab OR ctrl + shift + tab) the last file which was selected isn't focused anymore.

#5526 Maximizing Transfers new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I frequently find myself transferring very large data sets across wide-open network pipes... and unable to fully utilize any component in the the path, including client, server or network. With 1G networks considered standard, and 10G becoming common, these systems have far more capacity than FileZilla - and virtually every other FTP client that I've found - can handle. The issue is two-fold.

  1. Concurrent Transfers
  2. Segmented Transfers

About 3 years ago someone opened a ticket (#2762) asking for segmented transfers and the response was that it wasted too much bandwidth. True. There is a fairly high overhead. However, when neither the client, server nor network is even breaking a sweat... why do we care if we waste more bandwidth but get better performance? I believe that capacity has outstripped the natural (and reasonable) limitations of the software.

Regarding feature 1, please consider either completely removing the concurrency restriction or making it significantly larger. I suspect that 100 is now a very reasonable MINIMUM number for a hard-coded threshold, but will rely on the opinions of folks much more knowledgeable than I am about the intricate working of FTP.

Regarding feature 2, the ability to break up large files into multiple segments could make a significant improvement on the overall performance of FTP. Even when FileZilla is configured to transfer up to 10 files at one time, if I am transferring a single 10GB file... I only get one thread. Breaking this up into 10 (or 20... or more) segments would indeed make a difference.

I would, however, also suggest a need to balance these two potentially competing features. Due to the overhead, smaller files would be slowed down by a segmented approach. A low end cap that forces files smaller than X to be single threaded could help. This too should be user-adjustable. Even better might be a multi-level approach. Thus, files smaller than (for example) 10MB could be set to "always single-segment", files between 10 and 100MB could be set to "max 2 segments", files between 100MB and 500MB could be set to "max 5 segments", and files larger than 500MB could be set to "use as many segments as available."

Between these two features, the Concurrency cap should be the sum of segments rather than files. Following this logic, if concurrency was set to 100, then 100 small files - at 1 segment each - would all be transferred simultaneously, or a single 10GB file could be broken into 100 segments... but not both.

I believe that these three changes, particularly implemented together, would be a huge win for FileZilla.

Thanks for listening,

Jim

#5527 Drag + Drop Download on Mac new Feature request low FileZilla Client

I would like to request the ability to drag files from Server-View directly to my desktop. #5532 add whole time estimation for whole queue list new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

in "transfer queue" view, when i downloading a file, it will show how long the file can be downloaded. for example "00:02:05 elapsed 00:04:57 left...", such prompt message can be seen, it is very good, which can make you known how long you need to wait for downloading for this file.

but, annoyed thing for me, is, that i care about not only for 1 file, but for all files. I want to know, for all files in my queue, how long can I download them all. This is very useful, even more useful for one file downloading time estimation.

I do not know why you guys do not add such a feature. I suggest you can add it.And I suggest the whole downloading time estimation can be shown in right-bottom status zone.

Hope You can accept this feature, and hope i can see it in future version.

#5534 Synchronized browsing dialogs new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi

Submitted when using FileZilla 3.3.4.1 on OSX 10.5 but I think this is the same on Windows.

Action: Select a remote site folder that does not exist in the local site (with synchronized browsing on)

Result: A Synchronized browsing dialog appears with "%File Path% does not exist or cannot be accessed. Disable synchronized browsing and continue changing the remote directory? [Yes|No]"

Expected: A dialog appears with "%File Path% does not exist in the local site. Would you like FileZilla to create the folder and continue? [Yes|No]". Yes creates the folder and opens it synchronised. No does nothing and leaves the user to decide what to do.

Equally...

Action: Select a local site folder that does not exist in the remote site (with synchronized browsing on)

Result: No message dialog but an error in the log with "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing"

Expected: A dialog appears with "%File Path% does not exist in the remote site. Would you like FileZilla to create the folder and continue? [Yes|No]". Yes creates the folder and opens it synchronised. No does nothing and leaves the user to decide what to do.

all the best Dave

#5537 Cut&Paste/Move feature new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

For Windows user a lot of people used the shortcut key CTRL-X for cut and CTRL-V for paste. I have been using cut & paste in CuteFTP but in the FileZilla I didn't see any cut & paste feature. Please utilize the mv command for this feature. For instance, let say user want to move file1.rar from /public_html/xxx.com/ to /public_html/yyy.com/docs/ He can browse to the dir xxx.com then click file1.rar, press CTRL-X. FileZilla some how store the current path of file1.rar. Then user go to the yyy.com/docs/ dir, then press CTRL-V, Now FileZilla will store the current path then perform the mv command to move the file1 from the previous stored location to the new one.

Sorry about my bad english!

#5540 Drag and drop on remote panel appears to copy, but moves new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FZ v3.3.4.1

When you drag-and-drop in the remote panel, a plus-sign appears, implying that the file will be copied. But actually the file is moved. Holding the Ctrl key down while dragging still results in a move operation.

Get rid if the plus-sign, and preferably make the Ctrl key modify the drag-and-drop behaviour.

#5541 [suggestion] Set priority per tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

If you have FTP-connections in several tabs, rightclicking the tab allows you to set a priority to that connection.

#5544 Hot keys instead of popups new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Having the right click popup functions for the upload / download menus are great but most all the functions on the menus could use hot keys. Especially view/edit. Although the upload/download have a built in hot keys of double click or drag. Luckly most of the first letters are only used once except for refresh & rename plus create & copy. So here are my hot key suggestions A E O C R N=rename D V F U=Copy Url Fig thats it. Love the software.

#5548 Repeated errors (input_pushback not null) when reconnecting. new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When reconnecting to a server after losing my internet connection, or after a timeout, I frequently receive the cryptic error message:

Error: input_pushback not null!

I am not sure what this error means, or what causes it, but retrying always makes it go away. It would be rather nice if the system would do at least one retry of the current operation when this error occurs, thus avoiding the need for both the error message and the manual retry.

#5549 Site-specific Filename Filters new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

This feature request references This Thread.

Currently, it seems as if once you turn a filter on it applies to every site until you turn it back off. What I'd like is to hide directories on a site without needing to worry about enabling/disabling filters every time I connect to a different site. As I've got a couple hundred FTP's, I really want to avoid having to find each one's filter every time I connect.

I envision having a new tab or fieldset in the Site Manager for each site where you can choose from a list of filters to apply by default. e.g. John.com may have Filter A applied by default whereas Jane.com may have Filter B and Filter C applied by default.

#5552 Drag item up to other folders new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

While there are, yes, many ways around this, it would be nice to have this feature available.

When you click and drag a file up, it does not scroll up to the folders, but rather sits and stalls.

The video attached will help clarify what I am requesting.

#5566 Settings / Transfers / Enable Invalid Character Filtering enhancement new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have been trying to upload some directories and files to my yahoo small business ( YSB ) account but every time YSB gets a directory or filename with a space in it, it refuses it and the upload fails with a "Critical file transfer error" - "553-Names must contain only ASCII letters (a-z,A-Z), digits (0-9), underscore, dot and dash." They don't like spaces in filenames :-(

First - I think we need to be able to have the invalid characters feature apply to Uploads, not only downloads.

Second - It would be nice to be able to specify which characters to replace instead of having them hardcoded to \/:*?"<>| That way we could add a space and have it be converted to an underscore during the upload. Or at least expand the hardcoded invalid characters by adding a space.

#5594 Keyboard shortcut lost on Windows after update new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

Updates are frequent with FileZilla. It seems that each update deletes and then recreates the FileZilla shortcut on the desktop. The consequence is that any customization of the shortcut, especially the keyboard shortcut (in my case Ctr+Alt+F) gets lost. Thanks jean-louis

#5595 Keyboard navigation on directory panel new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

Since a former update (maybe FileZilla 3), the possibility of jumping to a location on the directory tree by pressing a letter on the keyboard has been lost. I suspect that is has been lost on the local directory panel first, and now on the distant directory panel as well. Note that it is still preserved on the file list panels.

The possibility of navigating using the keyboard is important for users like me who appreciate "mouseless" fast interaction.

#5604 FileZilla client is not high-DPI aware on Windows reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla is not high-DPI aware on Windows 7 or Vista. This means that if you set your PC's display resolution to the maximum supported, and compensate for the resulting small default GUI font by increasing the DPI setting, FileZilla's text is blurred because it is raster scaled. This is explained in the following tutorial:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd464659(VS.85).aspx

To reproduce on Windows 7:

  1. Right click the desktop and choose Screen Resolution.
  2. Make sure that it is set to its recommended value.
  3. From Control Panel, choose Display.
  4. Under "Make it easier to read what's on your screen", select "Larger - 150%".
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Log off and log on again.
  7. Start FileZilla and observe that the text on its UI is blurred.

The solution may be as simple as linking in the attached manifest file and testing that all text still fits in objects such as buttons, so I hope you'll try it. It'll help those of us getting presbyopia to put off the day when we need spectacles to read the screen!

#5610 Option to disable/enable all Default Local Directories in Site Manager new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

On Windows Filezilla startup or connection to a site where the default local directory configured in Site Manager is not available Filezilla hangs for minutes while OS attempts access.

As to my knowledge the timeout is enforced by Windows I humbly request some means of flagging off/on Filezilla attempting to open the directory configured in Site Manager for all My Sites.

Eg. At office and connected to NAS/mapped drives. USE DLD -> ON At home and NOT connected to NAS/mapped drives. USE DLD -> OFF

#5611 tab display - blank space, widths, info new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

A minor issue...

When many tabs are open, FZ indicates unseen tabs to the left or right by means of a little arrow. (Aside: This arrow is grayed out when at the end of the list, but I'd prefer a much lighter shade of gray, as mine appears nearly black.)

Open a bunch of tabs, so that there are many unseen tabs to the left. Now close the rightmost tabs. Instead of unseen tabs coming into view from the left, blank space remains where the now-closed tabs formerly sat. Only when the last visible tab to the right is closed is a set of leftward tabs then brought into view. It would be nicer to maximize the number of viewable tabs as each is closed.

On the issue of maximizing the view, it would also be nice to be able to set the width (in characters) of the tab, in case a user can tolerate more, but shorter, tabs.

Finally, it would be great to have a customizable tab display using formatted fields, as with date and time, by creating a spot at Settings/Interface/Tabs. Presently, the display is of the form "Sitename - Server" (perhaps this might be indicated by a format string "%n - %s", e.g.). My server is always the same, so I have a lot of wasted characters on my tabs. For me, "Sitename-Remote folder" (%n-%r) would be far preferable, as I often wander from my original folder, leaving me several tabs with the same display, open to different folders. Long info could appear in the dropdown widget at the right (I love that thing), while compressed versions can be shown on the tabs (e.g., "FaveSite-.../Here/Now").

This is the sort of request that shows a user is spoiled rotten, which in turn indicates the already excellent state of a program.

Thanks,

Rick Mabry

#5617 preserve timestamps option not working on directories. new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

hi,

when the preserve timestamps is enabled, and when uploading a directory with some sub directories inside, the existing directories of my local filesystem are not modified. (of course it's ok for my files as filezilla is a great app, developped by great guys)

it's not a big deal..

but maybe an option could be added for the timestamp option : 'ignore directories timestamp' in some case it would be very helpful for my eyes and my backup/restore ops.

kind regards,

Jerome fr

#5618 After Action Queue Completion - Remove Remote File new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Is there a way to add to the "After Action Queue completion" the command to Remove Remote File?

I have used, run cmd , then use rm "/part/file.file" after completion.

The ability to select multiple files for transfer, then on completion, the client remove the remote file from remote site... I would love to see that feature added.

I transfer all the time using FileZilla, both work and pleasure. Thank you for such a great sftp solution!

#5622 One click file backup new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I just thought about how often do we have to do backups, and it's actually pretty routine process, you have to copy file to your server, rename it, edit with w.e. you want and then upload it back.

What i suggest is adding an option to context menu, which with one click will make a backup file on server (same folder as the source file is located), it will copy the file with name like 'filename_bak.php'. This will make more people do backups.

#5663 File type display during file transfer new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#5666 File Mask feature new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Please add a new File Mask feature for each open session to allow display of files based on masking pattern. This new feature should be directly available on the session interface, not buried in the menu. One placement option is right next to the Site directory box.

In a directory where there may be hundreds of files, this feature will be very handy to reduce the long list of files displayed and can help quickly locate them.

The existing Filename Filters is a good feature, but cannot handle random filename selection as quickly and easily as a File Mask.

A typical file mask example can be found on WS-FTP client. I have to switch to WS-FTP every time when I need to use the file mask feature.

Thank-you.

#5674 Make it so I don't have to confirm upload of remotely edited file new Bug report normal FileZilla Client

#5676 Shortcut CMD+ARROW_DOWN on MacOSX new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Summary: The shortcut CMD+ARROW_DOWN on the Mac should open files and directories, instead of transferring files.

Description: On Mac OsX, when the CMD and ARROW_DOWN key are pressed, the selected file will be downloaded. Everywhere else on the Mac, CMD+ARROW_DOWN is used to open the highlighted file or to enter the highlighted directory. I've made this mistake numerous times, to accidentally enqueue thousands of files from the server, when I just wanted to open a directory. This is particularly frustrating because on the Mac, the interface basically hangs while transfers are in progress, so there is no way to stop it.

You are updating automaticly, so I think these data are correct.

Bug: 1. using a transfer of .gif or .jpg, Filezilla is sometimes forgotten it should be binary, so it transfers as a ascii file, result no image displaying. Nevertheless : these are not registered as ascii . 2. I use very often csv files ( comma seperated values = textfile ), can be dot csv , can be dot tsv or something else. Both are registered as transfer like ascii. Nevertheless : the software wants to transfer binary.

Would be very nice, to solve this problem.

#5685 File Filters: Add More Dates Options (ie: Files Modified TodaY) new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I think that would be very useful to have the possibility to filter "all the files that have been modified Today", where today is not a date "as 2010-11-12" but is the actual date: i was editing something last night filtering all the files edited on 2010-11-12.

After midnight all the file disappeared (after midnight it was already 2010-11-13). It took a while to understand that that was the reason (I was very tired) but the point is that I have to change that filter every day!

While using a filter that allows to set dates as: + modified today + modified this week + modified last week + ... it would be faster (just set it ony the first time and it would last forever).

#5688 Server certificate needs to be accepted twice new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When I connecto to a server with FTPES, I get the dialog to confirm the certificate. I check "always trust" and click ok, but when I download the first file, I get asked again.

I think this problem started with version 3.3.4 or 3.3.5. It also appears that my cached trusted server certificates are not kept between updates.

#5689 Impossible to read address bar drop down reopened Bug report high FileZilla Client

It's impossible to choose another directory because the dropdown cuts everything off after one or two levels. See attached.

#5690 Better way to display errors new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Whenever you carry out actions through Filezilla, it's difficult to see if there were errors.

For example if you selected 20 files to delete but only 19 were successfully deleted, how do you know? An error flashes past on the message log but you'll almost certainly miss it. The same goes for a lot of operations. Even with transfers it's easy to miss the "Failed Transfers" tab.

You should replace the message list and transfer panels with one single operations panel, showing you the things being done, and if they were successful. Perhaps with important lines such as errors bubbling to the top.

The message list is pretty useless for 99% of the time. I mean, how is "Command: PASV" or "Response: 226-Options: -a -l" useful to most people?

#5699 Handling of symbolic links on Server site new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

In the settings you have selected und 'File lists' that the 'double click action on files' is 'NONE'. When you have symbolic links on the server and you then double click the link the linked file is transfered with the name of the link. For us expected behaviour would be that nothing happens.

The behaviour is only experienced under Windows 7 !

#5701 Uploading large file fails, strange progress bar behavior new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I've seen this problem with several servers: when uploading a large file (e.g. 20 MB), FileZilla seems to starts uploading and then it's instantly at 100% (upload speed specifying 10 or 20 MB/s which isn't even possible with my connection).

Then it waits for a while (I think it is now in fact uploading actual data, even though it indicated it was already at 100%).

Then after a while it either says it's finished, but the file is uploaded only partially most of the time. Or it says "are you sure want to overwrite?" and then showing a smaller destination file (which didn't exist previously), i.e. it uploaded the file partially and now wants to restart, asking to overwrite the existing remote file (remote file = the part which it just uploaded).

Here's an FTP account in which I can reproduce this problem almost every single time:

host = ftpes://ftp.servage.net name = test86413 pasw = Test123 server type: FTPES (explicit TLS/SSL) (using default port 21)

I've just tested again with v3.3.5 (windows client), and it happened every attempt when I upload a 20 MB file.

I've seen this before with other servers as well, but this is the first time it occurs on a server on which I can easily make a test account for you to debug with.

Hope this helps!!

#5704 Drag files to FTP shortcut uploads files automatically new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Would be good if an FTP site, incl. target folder could be represented as a shortcut in a folder so dragging and dropping a file on the shortcut uploads the file to the specifiec FTP site/folder, like dropping file on a folder shortcut in Win OS (or any OS). It saves time from starting FZ, selecting site, browse to folder, upload etc.

#6190 Extracting archives in FileZilla new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

You should add support for extracting archives(zip etc.) via FileZilla so they don't have to be extracted before with explorer or other software.

It'll also decrease upload time and will allow you to keep all the files on your HD archived.

Sorry if this has been suggested previously.

#6194 Proxy Import Problem new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hey,

In your newest version of FileZilla Client (3.3.5.1) and also in the previous version (3.3.4.1) there is this bug. But in version 3.3.3 it works.

The problem appears when i try to import FTP-servers and proxy-settings by using the import function under the drop-down-menu „File“. The import of the FTP-Servers works great but the imported Proxy-Settings get lost after restarting FileZilla. The problem is on the following settings; the “FTP Proxy” and also the “Generic proxy”.

Some experiments have shown that the new settings won’t be stored in the filezilla.xml (%appdata%\FileZilla\filezilla.xml). By typing in the Proxy Settings manually it will work, but not by importing the settings via the import-feature.

I have discovered and tested this problem with Windows 7 Enterprise x64 once on a Intel core 2 duo and once on a virtual machine on my PC via WMware Player and a third time I tested it in a virtual machine inside of an ESX-Server always with Windows 7 Enterprise x64 -> every time the same problem.

I hope you can fix the problem.

If you need further information, just tell me!

#6199 sending files directly from explorer and have the link copyed automatically new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, I'am a speaker that produces from hit's own studio, and often I use filezilla client to put my files onto the ftp and send the link via email to my customers. I've been thinking in a facility to send files directly from explorer and copying the destination link into the clipboard. I imagine this: by selecting one or more files, when I click "send to ftp" from the folder context menu', filezilla compresses all the files in a single zip and then send it to an ftp, into a folder that follows the local disk folder structure. For example, if the file that I have to send is in c:\recordings and is called 1.mp3, I click on 1 with the right mouse button from the folder windows, I select "send to ftp" and it compress and then uploads the file in a folder called recordings, without showing windows. After the process is complete, the http destination link (partially defined by the user) is copied onto the clipboard and a beep or a popup can warn the user about the successful operation.

This adds to filezilla the capability of compressing files that is present into other softwares, and 2 to me is a very useful facilityto send link to files via email, like dropbox but with a own domain or server. Can it be done?

#6492 Deleting a symbolic link removes the linked directory content instead of deleting itself new Bug report high FileZilla Client
Description

When attempting to delete a symbolic link on a linux server, filezilla 3.3.5.1 deletes the content of the directory pointed by the symbolic link links to and does not delete the symbolic link itself.

Tbhis is totally unexpected : FileZilla acts the opposite of the rm command.

The expected behaviour is to have the rm command equivalent :

When deleting a symbolic link, it should just delete the symbolic link.

#6496 Limit number of downloads by file volume new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi!

FileZilla has an option to limit the number of files uploaded/downloaded at a time. Though very useful, this does not always meet factual requirements.

In the case that I download or upload large files (e.g. a server backup), I would like to transmit only one or two at a time. Same for downloading. While, when up/downloading many small files (e.g. html files) then the overhead takes much time and I would like to start a lot of transfers at a time.

Therefore I request the feature to additionally limit the number of file transfers by file size, e.g. "Limit concurrent downloads to [1] GB". So if I usually would like to limit to 5 files, but FileZilla find two files of 500 MB then it shall wait with further downloads until one of them has been transferred.

Thanks for reading :)

#6498 warn earlier about reboot? new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, A small point, but it just caused a bit of a problem here. I was in the middle of a job and needed to ftp something. Ran Filezilla and was prompted to update to latest version. Approved it. At the end of the update process it said I had to reboot before I could use it, which meant closing down a load of programs that I was working in, losing my place in code etc. Perhaps you could put a warning BEFORE the update starts saying that a reboot will be necessary, then we can choose whether to do it then or not. Many thanks

#6501 A file with that name is already being transferred new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I was downloading some php file using the veiw/edit function, before the file was fully downloaded I unchecked the "Process Queue" from the queued files list and then deleted it from the list using the delete button. Now when I enter the view/edit function again a popup window appears telling that "A file with that name is already being transferred". I think this is a bug because the file should be transformed because I deleted it from the list.

#6506 Local Site or Remote Site Cardex Ability new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I am using Win-7/64 Professional. I have version 3.3.5.1 installed.

Description: When I click in the Local Site or Remote Site list areas and press a key on the keyboard to go to that letter of the directory, nothing happens, I am not advanced to that letter of the directory. However, in the FileName lists, the cardex functionality does work and pressing a keyboard letter does take me to that filename or folder letter.

What It should Do: I think that the functionality in the FileName list is correct. You click in that file name area and type a letter of the file or folder that you want to jump to and it takes you there. The Local Site / Remote Site lists should behave the same way.

I would think that the code to do this is already done and in the FileName area of the code. Perhaps make that a function to call from any of the list-box areas for cardex behavior.

Other Examples: Windows Explorer behaves correctly

Thank you for your time.

#6511 Default System Language new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

I'm somebody with some mixed language settings. Have my Region and Language set as follow: Format to Dutch Current location: the Netherlands. Keyboard and languages default is English (United States) - US Current language for non-Unicode programs: English (United States)

I did upgrade to filezilla 3.3.5.1 and have my settings to "Default system Language" but get my filezilla in Dutch instead of English what would be expected. Not a major issue just to let you know it doesn't work correctly.

#6514 Fix locale names new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Translation locale names should not use country part without reason. Its use makes impossible to use translation in other countries that use the same language.

Country part should be used only in these conditions:

  • You already have "canonical" translation (e. g. de_DE, fr_FR) done and you want to translate to a country specific dialect.
  • You need to use country specific strings.
  • You translate to locales that have exception from this rule: pt_BR, bn_IN, zh_TW, zh_CN (and other zh_*).

Here is a small bash script that fixes this problem for filezilla:

cd locales ; for LOC in bg_BG ca_ES@valencia cs_CZ da_DK et_EE eu_ES fa_IR fi_FI gl_ES he_IL hu_HU id_ID ja_JP km_KH ko_KR lt_LT lv_LV mk_MK nb_NO nn_NO pl_PL pt_PT ro_RO sl_SI sk_SK th_TH uk_UA vi_VN ; do mv -iv $LOC.po ${LOC/_??}.po; done

Feel free to pick de.po. I see it e. g. here: https://build.opensuse.org/package/files?package=filezilla&project=network
