#10979 Panels location to improve usability new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

On wide monitors on note PCs it's very hard to work with file lists because of lack of vertical resolution. Interface improvements needed:

  1. Message log panel should have ability to be moved right and placed vertically on the right side of file list panels and has two representations: short and wide. It should have horizontal and vertical scroll bars. Can be hidden from View menu as is.
  2. Task log panel should have ability to be moved right and placed vertically
  3. Both panels can be grouped in one panel with tabs
#11018 Add site name in password entering dialog window title new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Is it possible to add site name in window title of passphrase entering dialog? It will help with KeePass' Auto-Type feature by identifying which passphrase is needed and not having to select from many sites. It could be e.g. "Site - Enter password"

#11023 Customize blacklist message "No connections allowed from your IP" new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Since we allow only whitelisted connections, I would like to customize the blacklist error message which is currently "550 No connections allowed from your IP"

In particular, I would like to include the IP number, something like this:

To access this server, please ask support@__.com to whitelist your IP which is xx.x.xx.x.

I think the IP number is important to aid troubleshooting. The log file does NOT record these blocked connections, and a user could be using a proxy server or IPv6 without realizing it.

Thanks!

#11041 Search remote Files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

when searching for a remote file I would like to see the option to search for permissions (for example 604) I noticed a few websites had files not 644 or 755 it was 604 Added through a vunerability of joomla or wordpress. This way I can find all files that should not be there.

Thanks

#11045 Dual pane mode where both local/remote sites can be choosen new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla has reached a peak. Basically it is the goto for any sort of file transfer client. It needs something that would also dominate the marketshare: The ability to choose both remote panes and/or both local panes for file transfer.

Yes, this requires a HUGE internal and GUI overhaul BUT at the end of the day, I think it would be a awesome addition and can make Filezilla close to even a file manager (which honestly, this is the only thing missing from it)

The community has asked for it several times but it has been rejected because it is complex. I understand that this cannot be done in one day but the saying says Rome wasn't built in one day..

I hope this is taken under consideration.

Thank you

#11060 OSX Automatic update new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Every time there is an update available, instead of downloading the tarball and expecting the user to extract it, copy it over in the Applications folder (while closing the running instance first) seems like a very complicated process.

Other software like SourceTree for example uses some magic to update the application in-place, getting another prompt after the package was downloaded to automatically restart to get the new version.

#11066 Clarify "Saving of passwords has been disabled" dialog box. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Steps to reproduce:

  • Fresh install of Filezilla.
  • Open Site Manager
  • Enter details for new site.
  • For Logon Type select "Normal"
  • Click Ok

A dialog box comes up that is titled "Site Manager - Cannot remember password"

Saving of passwords has been disabled by you. 'Normal' and 'Account' logontypes are not available. Your entry has been changed to 'Ask for password'.

Please make the following clarifications on this dialog box text.

  • The title should be 'Cannot save password'. The current title suggests the user can't remember the password, which is not the case.
  • The first line should read 'Saving of passwords has been disabled in the Interface settings.' Please don't blame me for disabling it. I didn't do it!
  • There should be an additional line explaining where in the settings this can be changed, because it is quite obscure: Edit... menu | Settings... menu item | Behaviour Pane | Do not save passwords checkbox.
#11078 Delete Specific Items from Quickconnect Bar new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Add a feature to delete specific entries into the quick-connect bar. This *should* (probably not) be a simple patch to increase usability.

#11099 Add custom sorting to Site Management new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Добавьте возможность самому сортировать порядок сайтов / папок в менеджере сайтов. Очень удобная и нужная функция.

!! Google translite -> Add the possibility to sort the order of sites / folders in the site manager. Very convenient and necessary function.

#11106 Toolbar icons/buttons vague and button status hard to determine new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

After upgrading to v.3.23.02 on Mac OSX, I was pleased to find new toolbar icons/button. However, the meanings of the buttons are vague. Even more, the status, active or inactive, of a button is very hard to determine visually.

As to the vague meanings of the buttons/icons, I leave that to the designers, but I think some more thought should be put into the images to better represent their function. For example, the synchronized browsing icon and the refresh icon are similar but cannot visually tell you what their purpose is at a glance. I realize this is a challenge...

On the "status" of a button, turning some features on or off in the toolbar makes so minor a change to the icon, it is very hard to tell if it is active or inactive. I would suggest either a much more bold coloration on the "active" buttons and when a button goes inactive, make it very faint and grayscale only (not just faded version with colors). I am sure there are other good approaches to making these toolbar selections VERY obvious when active or inactive. Maybe consult the Apple Human Interface guidelines for some ideas. They seem to be pretty good at UI design.

#11142 Feature Request: Option to always create missing folder new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When in synchronized browsing mode and you enter a folder that doesn't exist locally yet, you get a popup asking whether to create a missing folder or exit synchronized browsing mode. I would like to see an option to 'always create missing folder'. So that you don't get this popup every time and have to choose to create it.

#11149 No way to remove all files from queue that are not being uploaded/downloaded new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

If you right-click on the queue of transfers, there is an option "stop and remove all". By doing that, as a result, the files that are currently being transferred will usually be broken at the destination (e.g. on the server if being uploaded).

So, this option is not always viable.

There should be (in addition) another option called something like "remove all files not being transferred", which would remove from the queue all files except those whose transfer has already transferred. So, you would have a way to stop a transfer without leaving broken files.

Currently there's no way to accomplish that, and this is pathetic.

Note that manually selecting and removing all non-transferring files is usually not possible because by the time you are done selecting all files, chances are that the first ones in the selection have already started being transferred.

#11159 Site Manager - Make a pane new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

provide the ability to keep the site manager tacked on the left pane. rather then having to open a separate window.

#11191 Fix double clicking on filename (to agree with convention) new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Double clicking on the 'index' of 'index.php' should only select the text 'index'. This is fairly standard across most operating systems.

This would help with workflow and efficiency. Normally, people want to change filename but not change the file suffix.

#11217 Filter conditions: whitelisting moreinfo Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

In the Filter rules / conditions section user can filter out what he likes.

Would it be possible to also have the whitelisting approach here? I mean first I would exclude everything and then I would add files / folders individually, thus letting them be processed.

I did not elaborate it well yet but it could be the opposite of the current method.

Sorry if I am missing something and this can already be achieved somehow.

Thank you in advance.

#11229 Add longPathAware support new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Windows 10 now supports paths longer than MAX_PATH for compatible applications: http://stackoverflow.com/a/27694470/1032586 (without using "unsafe" UNC paths, like discussed here

It would be nice to add this "longPathAware" feature to FileZilla.

#11242 New layout of file and directory panes moreinfo Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have tried the different options in the Interface prefs. However, still find it difficult to navigate using any one of them.

It would help if I could have just three panes: Remote, Local, and Status, and double-clicking a dir moves me up one level (in both local and remote panes), and history back and forward buttons at the top. The Status parked at the bottom with an arrow button to furl/unfurl on demand, and option to resize it.

I would think it's a lot of work, so don't expect to see it anytime soon but am hoping against hope it's already on the cards and my request will tip the balance.

#11246 "Locate file in Finder" or "Locate file in Explorer" new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Hi FileZilla Team,

Had searched the feature request tickets and didn't find any results...

Just wanted to ask if there could be an option (in the local file list) that when you right-click on a file or folder, there's an option for "Locate file in Finder" (MAC) or "Locate file in Explorer" (Windows)? This feature would serve very handy when wanting to reorganize the local folder or open an image in Photoshop, or extract a zipped folder to verify the contents, etc.

Thanks in advance if this can be implemented soon!

Best Regards, Jaime

#11271 Add Ability to Set Default Local and Remote Directories from Current Working Paths new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

One biggest feature that would really make Filezilla even easier to use is the ability to set the default local directory and default remote directories of the current site without having to re-open the site's advanced settings panel every time.

As an active web developer, I find myself constantly needing to change my working directory (path) on my local machine or remote server depending on which part of the website I am focusing on for the current task.

Currently, the user needs to perform 14-20 actions (clicks, scroll, copy, paste, etc) in order to update the default directories in the active site profile each time. By having something perhaps like buttons in the file manager/browser area, this could be done with 2 actions.

#11306 Flag edited items / Option to clear the Flag new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Love FileZilla. Great work. This is a usability-improvement request.

When I open a local file for editing, the only way I know it worked is when I upload the file, and test it.

During the upload process, there is an option to "Finish Editing" (which basically means, "clear the edit-in-progress flag"). But at that point, I have no idea whether or not I'm done editing -- so I never clear it.

What I'd like is an option to clear that flag AFTER uploading the file, without uploading it again. It would also be nice if such files were flagged, to identify files that have already been flagged.

#11323 Search feature in FTP Server new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi.

I work with a lot of FTP servers in my company with a lot of files. I think if We had a "Search" field in the remote address it would be easier to find the file that I want to get.

Please, can you add this feature in the FileZilla? Sorry for my English, I'm from Brazil and I'm learning this language yet.

Thank you so much.

#11341 [feature] add file type/name blacklist new Feature request low FileZilla Server
Description

it would be useful if there was a REGEXP or a file type restraint possibility, maybe with temporary ban

#11384 Synchronize the local and remote folder as preset new Feature request normal Unknown
Description

Everytime a connection is started the sync folder option must be set again. It would be very good to include a preset for this in the options.

#11385 Folder compare option as preset new Feature request normal Unknown
Description

Everytime a connection is started the folder compare option must be set again. It would be very good to include a preset for this in the options.

#11387 Feature Request: indicate files may not be in sync new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When you "Refresh the files and folder lists" or change folders to the same folder on both the source and destination lists, make the Filesize in BOLD if they are different values, different sizes.

#11394 Send a request to get an external IP from an active IP address new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Please make it so that server tried to get external IP address by sending request from that IP address to which the client connects.

It needed to implement the following scheme with multiple gateways:

            / [gateway 1, wan ip: 1.1.1.1, lan ip: 192.168.1.1] \
[ftp client] [ftp server]
            \ [gateway 2, wan ip: 2.2.2.2, lan ip: 192.168.2.1] /

I have a two IP addresses and default gateways on a single ethernet interface (although it may be different interfaces too):

  1. ip: 192.168.1.2/24, dg: 192.168.1.1, metric: 10
  2. ip: 192.168.2.2/24, dg: 192.168.2.1, metric: 20

FileZilla Server listens to both of these addresses, is configured to passive mode and gets an external IP address from http://ip.filezilla-project.org/ip.php.

At the moment FileZilla Server always connect to ip.filezilla-project.org from 192.168.1.2.

#11404 "overwrite file if size differs" rule will delete local copy while remote files showing in list but actually not existing new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Suppose such situation: I set the rule for "Default file exists action" as "overwrite file if size differs", and download files from remote site(for example, download pictures from my smartphone to my PC), then keep FileZilla running as it is. Then I delete some pictures in the phone, but in FileZilla's remote site zone, It still shows the full list as before. If I do the same downloading job again(source and target path just as same as before), while trying to download those files shown in list but actually deleted, FileZilla finds "size difference" between source and target(local file exists and remote file doesn't), and as per the rule, it will firstly remove local file and rebuild a new one with same name but size is 0-byte, then gives an transfer error message. Finally, I will lose my local file(s), although my original purpose is to double check if everything downloaded properly. Can FileZilla's action in above situation as following: if file in remote list doesn't exist, FileZilla will just give an error message firstly, but don't change anything in local? "Local exists and remote doesn't" surely is kind of "size difference" but I think that's just an extreme case and is not our original purpose for the rule.

#11421 This is a feature request for remembering files that were being edited in the prior session new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I am unable to access my account in the forums. I know my password but not my user name, and I have forgotten my password. So because I don't remember my user name, I can't reset my password, which leads me here to submit my feature request.

I'm working on a project and each time I restart the FileZilla client I have to re-edit the same 5 files. When I upload, I don't check the 'I am done editing this file', so these files remain in the editing state. It would be nice if on login, I could be asked if I want to reopen previously open editing files, so I didn't need to navigate to each file and re-edit it.

Thank you, Howard Brown

#11435 Allow log directory location to be customized new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

In Windows, the Program Files folder is supposed to be considered "off-limits" to frequently-written data, like log files. (The %APPDATA% path is the suggested replacement.)

It would be really useful to be able to specify the location of the logfile rather than have to grant permissions to the Program Files directory of a machine if I want to access the logfile remotely.

#11444 Featura request -- Add quick search in the Site manager new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi Folks,

I would like to use a quick search option into the site manager, because of the amount of FTP servers that i manage.

#11452 Update Filezilla when exiting app new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I execute Fz about once every few weeks and most of the time I feel that the pop-up screen asking to update is a kind of nagware.

There should be a button that gives the choice to the user to update Filezilla after exiting the application. This way, the user could still use Fz as usual and will only update the app after using it.

Check the Paint.net application, that is what it does.

My two cents!

#11454 Keep items in local and remote directory lists refreshed new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

This seems really basic to me. The item lists on local and remote panes don't automatically refresh. Maybe that's the design, but it causes trouble because you are working on something, get everything ready, select all, put the files up and something is missing because it's not in the pane to select all on. Yes, I can refresh, yet Notepad++ recognizes immediately when I pull a new file down that it has open. This is the only product I've used that doesn't do this out of the box. Normally, I hate everything trying to predict what I'm trying to do .. but this isn't prediction, this is showing up a list of items in a folder and it's out of date.

#11466 Auto sync data with Filezilla new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Hello Admin,

Is it able to sync the data from remote FTP site with Filezilla in a scheduled date. Filezilla is a great tool. But we need to download the data everyday, The FTP server is in other country, due to the time difference, we can't download the data in time. If FileZilla can auto sync the data from remote site. it would be much helpful.

#11543 duplicate search/ricerca duplicati new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

sarebbe utile che prima mentre carica la lista dei file in upload o download controlli subito l'esistenza di duplicati e chieda cosa fare in questo caso e di conseguenza se si ignorano li elimini tutti subito dalla cosa

it would be useful that before while uploading the list of files in upload or download check for duplicates and ask what to do in this case and therefore if you ignore them you eliminate them all right away from the thing

#11545 Add a checkbox to allow Import to replace all existing sites new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

At home I use a desktop computer for development, but when traveling I use a laptop. As my site list changes, I want to export from Filezilla on my desktop and then import on my laptop, replacing all of the existing sites. However, import ends up duplicating any sites that already exist on the laptop so I have to laboriously delete every site manually in the Site Manager before importing.

My request is to add a checkbox in the Import dialog that indicates that all of the existing sites are to be replaced by the sites in Filezilla.xml.

#11559 Feature Request: OS X Mac Auto-Install Auto installer automatically install update new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I've been using FileZilla client for a long time and i always wondered. Every time there is an update available on mac, i have to: manually close Filezilla, go to the downloads folder and move the install to the Applications folder. Is it a security issue to build this feature in? Is there a way the community can help implement this feature more easily?

#11590 Display confirm dialog to dragdrop directory. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm making mistake in drag-drop directory unexpectedly. Especially remote directory's case is getting critical. So I suggest to display confirm dialog like "Are you sure?" when drag-drop directory, we can avoid unexpected trouble... Thank you.

#11605 Allow specifying LAN addresses to be treated as external in PASV PORT new Feature request low FileZilla Server
Description

When running in a home network with the ports mapped in the router FileZilla Server can't tell whether a connection is comming from the LAN or the Internet.

Look at this example setup:

  1. FileZilla Server Host
    • LAN IP: 192.168.0.5
    • FTP Port: 21
    • PASV settings:
      • Port Range: 5000-6000
      • Retrieve external IP address from: selected
      • Don't use external IP for local connections checked
  2. Network Router/Firewall
    • External IP: 200.200.200.200 (dynamic)
    • LAN IP: 192.168.0.1
    • Mapped:
      • TCP 21 to 192.168.0.5 port 21
      • TCP 5000-6000 to 192.168.0.5 range 5000-6000

This is very common for home and small businesses where NAT is not available and the IP is dynamic.

Since the external IP is dynamic Retrieve external IP address from: is the only acceptable option. If you uncheck Don't use external IP for local connections most connections from LAN will fail because most household routers I've seen don't handle LAN -> External IP connections properly. This is most noticeable when the router was provided by your ISP so you can't tweak it or update the firmware.

The issue here is that passive connections comming from 192.168.0.1 respond with PORT 192,168,0,5,XX,YY instead of PORT 200,200,200,200,XX,YY because FileZilla server has no way of knowing those connectios are actually comming from the outside.

Fortunately modern clients will properly handle cases where the PORT response us pointing to LAN IP addesses but not all do.

What I'm requesting is a way to tell FileZilla Server which LAN IP addresses should be treated as external when sending PASV PORT responses.

In the previos example we add:

  1. FileZilla Server Host
    • PASV settings:
      • External LAN IPs: 192.168.0.1

Then the responses are:

  • source: 192.168.0.0/24 except 192.168.0.1 response PORT 192,168,0,5,XX,YY
  • source: 192.168.0.1 response PORT 200,200,200,200,XX,YY

This can be extended to support more complex scenarios but those are outside the scope of this request.

#11607 double-click to download from search window new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

In settings, there are options to set default double-click options when browsing directories, but when downloading from the search window, settings must be confirmed each time as to whether or not to keep the directory structure intact, download now/later, etc. I would like to be able to set my preferred actions for downloading from a search as defaults so that I can simply double-click a file from search results instead of going through these extra steps every time. Also, if I could have an option with this to automatically create a "downloads" folder in the current folder of my local directory, that would be more beneficial to me than the name of the remote directory. I.e., I regularly go on and download reports from directories called 2017 and 2018, and I do want them kept in separate folders from the current files I'm creating using the old data, but I would prefer they be together in a single folder instead of their respective separate folders. So, for example, if I am working in a May 2018 folder, and need to download two files on a single project that happen to be from separate years, I would like to highlight the two files, hit Enter, and have the program automatically create a "downloads" folder in my May 2018 folder and push both the 2017 and 2018 file into it.

#11613 Add file/directory owner changing in File permissions... new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Currently I am using Filezilla to change access rights to directories and files in the server. But when I have to change the owning user and group of the file, I am bound to use Putty. I think it would be a very good and comfortable feature if you allowed changing owning user and group of the file/directory in the File permissions/attributes window.

#11615 Accessibility: Add a way to sort files and folders by change date through the menu new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

With Filezilla it's possible to sort files and folders by thair date of the last change. But this is not possible for me, because I'm blind and cannot click on any header of the filezilla file list. Please add a sort by... menu to make this action much easier for blind people.

#11617 Support for OpenSSH Certificate based authentication new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

OpenSSH support client certificates signed by some CA (not X.509-Certificates, but their own simpler form). These certificates are great because they when created with a short validity time they can function as a temporay access token for servers. This makes handling a large number of servers and users on these servers very easy.

The certificates are described at http://cvsweb.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/usr.bin/ssh/PROTOCOL.certkeys?rev=HEAD and should be easy to implement in the protocol, according to the putty devs (https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/wishlist/ssh2-openssh-certkeys.html). I don't share their opinion that the ppk files need to be updated, but the gui should just add a field where the cert file can be added and together with a pkk file containing the key the client has all information it needs to connect to a server.

The absence of any free Windows SCP client supporting OpenSSH certificates is the only thing currently stopping me from rolling out this feature in our organization. We are willing to donate 500$ if someone finds the time to implement that.

#11679 Search and opening multiple files option to open ALL local or refresh new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Steps to reproduce.

  1. open filezilla and search for files
  2. select files from list
  3. right-click on files and select open/edit
  4. message box pops up asking to "Reopen Local File" or "Discard Local File Then Download and Edit File Anew" (note the files must have been opened previously for this box to show)

Suggestion to add a "Reopen ALL Local Files" and "Discard ALL Local Files..." option within this popup. Hitting this box for several files is very tedious and time consuming.

I guess allowing to explicitely choose that the WebDAV Server doesn't know how to work encrypted could fix this issues.

#11717 Limit number of invalid commands new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Right now there is no limit to the number of invalid commands that a user can send to the server. It's common for protocols to disconnect clients that don't behave.

I occasionally see (probably automated) attempts to connect to the FTP server and then the client sends data for a completely different protocol. This can go on for quite a while and will fill up the log file quickly.

I suggest adding an option that allows the user to define the maximum number of invalid commands until a connection is dropped.

This might be extended to "useless" commands. A client can spam "HELP" right now to get a disproportional large answer from the server, which could be leveraged into DDoS attacks.

#11744 Feature request: Enable/Disable logging per user (Filezilla Server) new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Hi,

I would suggest to have a enable/disable logging feature for each user or user group. Simple reason: I use an IP camera which uploads periodically pictures using FTP and this will flood the logging-file. If I could disabled logging for each user, I could switch off this.

Thanks, Jurgen

#11775 Problem connecting to SFTP using ssh key and password new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, we are connecting to multiple servers using FileZilla but are unable to connect to a server that is requiring both key+password. The only option in FileZilla for establish the connection, is to use the "interactive" mode which works fine. However, we would like to use FileZilla for all our FTP work so please add this combination also. Now we have to use WinSCP for this work and that program is... well... it has a less look and feel, lets stick with that.

#11785 Host / Address Hotkey (keyboard shortcut) new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Feature request: That ALT+d be used as a keyboard shortcut/hotkey to access the hostname input box.

This is in keeping with the same being used in firefox, windows explorer, etc.

This feature would streamline connecting to hosts, especially anonymous ftp sites requiring no credentials (such as open source repositories).

Currently, the host input box is the default focus on application launch. However, re-accessing the box via keyboard is not possible (at least in Win10) via alt+h due to "help" menu also being alt+h.

#11803 Openstack Swift - Large object support new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Please can support for objects larger than 5GB be added to Filezilla Pro. I've checked the settings and I can't see a Large File option to enable.

At the moment, if content-lenth is greater than 5GB the Swift front end will respond immediately with a HTTP 413 error message.

Swift has two flavours of large file support, the older (somewhat deprecated) DLO (Dynamic large object) feature and the newer SLO ( Static Large Objects) feature. In a nutshell, to make a SLO object which is larger then 5GB, you upload the file in chunks < 5GB in size and then once all parts are uploaded you upload a JSON manifest which references the chunks. The emphasis is put on the uploading element as the manifest can be referenced as a normal object by an end-user for download, and the Swift proxy streams the chunks into one object as the download occurs.

It is possible for SLO to be disabled on a storage cluster, but I would not recommend DLO be used solely based on that fact, as it does have some limitations and is generally not recommended for new deployments.

FYI. We (Sohonet) contributed the SLO feature support for Cyberduck, which was accepted.

#11826 Drive and directory selection option for both downloads and settings including updates. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

For most (p2p) programs this is a very easy option to add.

If option can only be set via manually writing to the settings text file, then on-board client options should be added for ease of use.

Reasons: 1. Privacy; account name becomes a part of the footprints for downloads.

  1. Not everybody wants to write to their system drive. Personally since my power mac days tried to keep the system drive just for the system (using partition) and G4 days system drive independent of all work and personal files by directing them to alternate drives. Past 11 years used an mp3,1 upgraded 2 years ago with SSD system drive. I wish to keep writes restricted to system’s demands (run 24/7); other 4 larger drives for work and personal files.

#11860 "Show in Explorer" - right-click menu option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#11864 Update process is too intrusive moreinfo Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Using a modal dialog to prompt the user on startup to update the application is an extremely intrusive method of delivering updates.

You guys are continuously delivering updates, so the user is continuously being prompted to update every time they open the application.

It's an extra click and a chance to accidentally begin updating, when the user may be in a situation where they need to connect to a server as quickly as they possibly can.

There are many other options you could use that would be better...

  • Display an icon somewhere on the application that the user can click on to deliver an update.
  • Prompt on closing the application.
  • Just let the user manually check for updates through the Help->Check for Updates menu option.
#11868 Can't download a folder while other downloads are in progress new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Steps to reproduce:

  • connect to a server
  • on the right (remote) panel, right-click on a folder and do "Download folder". Make sure you pick a folder that will take a while to download.
  • While the files are being added to the queue and downloaded, right-click on another folder in the remote panel

Expected: the option "Download folder" in the dropdown menu should be available, and by clicking on it you should be able to appending also the new selected folder's content to the queue for download. There's no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't be able to do that just "because" queuing and/or downloading of files from another folder is in progress

Observed: the option "Download folder" is greyed out until the current download is finished.

#11926 File exists action: Option to abort transfer new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

I'm using Filezilla to transfer webcam images. Since these are being continuously generated, there are always a lot of files that need to be skipped which takes a long time. I notice FIlezilla always transfers the most recent images first (I hope this is intentional and not just a feature of my system) so the optimal action would be to abort and clear the queue when a file already exists.

#11963 Colorize remote folder new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi

It would be nice with a feature, which perhaps could be stored locally on the users machine, where you're able to add a color to a remote server folder. Because sometimes, if you have many folders remotely, you can get "confused" as to which ones are what, which ones, belive it or not, came from you, and which did not.

This confusion usually only lasts a while, as you then check through and compare. But with ability to color folders remotely, everything would be chrystal clear!

#11968 Publish/Quicktransfer button(s) required new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Many times a specific file or specific files, whose names do not change over time, need to be uploaded for publishing.

Like in the Seamonkey Suite, which has a pusblish button for uploading the whole page that one is editing in one go, it would be fine if there is one or more publish/Quicktransfer buttons for uploading one's favourite file(s).

Now, one has to manoevre each time through all directories to locate the files. Synchronized browsing and bookmarking helps, but then still scrolling and locating is necessary.

This/these Publish/Quicktransfer button/buttons could be located for instance to the right of the the Quickconnect Bar.

(A) corresponding shortcut key(s) could be assigned to the button(s).

If such a button/these buttons work for one favourite file, such a button could be extended to work for a list of files, for which each time extensive browsing is required.

It would then look like the Publish Button of the Seamonkey Suite, which unfortunately only handles ftp, not sftp or ftps, so if FileZilla is going to do this it would be great!

#11983 Support for UNC paths in local tree pane new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When using a UNC path for local files, the “Local site:” box will accept and show the current path, but the server node and directory tree does not appear within the local tree pane. This means that you cannot explore the local directory structure or move files between local directories.

I would expect the server to appear as another node in the tree, either at the same level as local drives, or at the same level as Desktop, and a chain of directory nodes up to the working directory.

#11994 Open and close Queued Files on transfer new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#12017 Edit/Upload Changes or Unedit workflow new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm editing a bunch of file, which is made easier due to the FileZilla file-list right-click pop-up menu's Edit option, where I can retrieve a file into my designated editor to make changes and save then, then return to FileZilla, which notices the change and offers to uploaded the changed file and the file unlocked.

However, if I find that the file locked for editing doesn't actually need to be changed, so not saved, meaning that I return to FileZillia, I need to unlock the file marked for editing using the File>Show files currently being edited... (Ctrl-E), which disrupts the workflow. Rater, in addition to the unlock via the File menu and dialog, I suggest that an Un-Edit option be added to the pop-up menu where the Edit option shows (file-list right-click pop-up menu's Edit), which when clicked removes the file from the current files being edited list.

#12049 Multiple windows desired new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I open multiple instances of FileZilla SFTP, each with it own different colored panel. This is for directory handling: sometimes I need to upload files from a Javascript directory, sometimes from other directories.

I was wondering if you could implement this feature in Filezilla? Microsoft makes directory handling very difficult and cludgy.

BTW, I love the different colors one can associate with Filezilla instances, don't ever discontinue this.

#12054 Option to Disable Upload Successful Notification new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

While it's nice to see that Filezilla has integrated with newer Windows 10 features, I actually don't want those notifications accumulating in my notifications. I try to restrict what appears there to something unusual, whereas most of my daily uploads are quick - the fact they succeeded is visible to me in the interface, and the notifications are just clutter.

I'd like an option to disable these notifications.

#12063 New item in context menu Open file location new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#12087 Right-Click Context menu provides provides fully-qualified pathname to File/Folder. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Right-Clicking on a File in left Client pane: Returns the fully qualified pathname to the file including the filename. Very handy when using a File Open dialog in a different application than the default editor, etc.

Right-Clicking on a Folder in left Client pane: Returns the fully qualified pathname to the folder. Very handy when you need just the selected folder's location.

Right-Clicking on a white space in left Client pane: Returns the fully qualified pathname to the parent folder. Very handy when you need just this folder location.

The same would be handy in the right Server pane as well for providing fully qualified links from the ./ level, e.g., you're sending an email with a link and you need the complete link to a particular file. It would eliminate typos completely!

#12135 Copy/paste from Windows folder to FTP folder new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Please! I'm use to this with other FTP software that I'm not using any longer and it would make it much quicker and easier, rather than having to manipulate window positions so I can drag & drop.

Not so important for me, but if you are also able to support copy/paste from FTP folder to a Windows folder then that would also be perfect.

I'm sure the same feature in Linux and other platforms would be appreciated.

#12150 Eliminate Max Simultaneous Transfers limit of 10 new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello there.

This is a duplicate of #5062 however it is a decade old, and as stated in that ticket 10 months ago modern 21st century compute & network technology can easily handle hundreds of concurrent SFTP/FTP sessions, no reason keeping limit.

When dealing with thousands of small files, and scenarios where there is a speed limit per transfer, that 10 transfer limit is a severe bottleneck, and an unnecessary one.

#12151 Misleading Error: "Connection closed by server" new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

During long file transfers, the unused browsing connection gets closed, producing an error message in red in the Message log Window:

Error: Connection closed by server

Since the message is displayed in red and listed as "Error", this is very troubling for users who are not familiar with FTP.

This produces bug reports which are then rejected (eg #4130), messages in the forums, and phone calls from worried clueless users.

It would be nice if this message could be

  • not displayed in red
  • not marked as "Error"
  • maybe reworded to make it clear that it's only the browsing connection and that the transfer connection continues normally
#12156 Option to override default local directory new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello!

It would be very useful to have an option (perhaps a checkbox) on the site manager to override the use of the default local directory just before connecting.

FileZilla has a command line option (--local) to start in a specific local directory, which I implement on a Window's file explorer context menu item to open FileZilla from the current location, or a specified folder. But when I connect to a preconfigured site with a default local directory set then it changes. Changing to the default directory is usually the desired behavior, but not every time. When I open FileZilla from a different directory to upload files from that location I have to either disable the default local directory, or connect and manually open the new directory again, which seems inefficient for repeated use.

Thank you in advance..

#12173 Sorting queue with header doesn't follow remote order new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

Actually i have sorting settings set to "Case insensitive", which is fine on remote view.

But in download queue this ordering settings is not active. So if you click on the download queue header to sort by name, the order is case sensitive. The result is if you download all folder of a folder, assuming you remove each finished folder, you have to scroll in remove view to find the latest finished folder.

It will be better to have the sorting case settings acting on both remove view and download queue (to be consistent).

#12185 Add a function to disable auto-download installer of new version new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Good day, In addition to very old tiket(https://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/10797), it would be logically to add a function to not auto-download FileZilla installer when update new version check performed.

For example, people may just want to know about release of a new version and make their own decision when and if they want to download new version.

#12188 Shortcut Generator new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

A request to add a "settings" option to stop FZ from generating a new desktop shortcut every time FZ executes an update.

fwiw, my default is to run windows as a low rights user. As a result every time FZ updates it takes almost ten steps to gain the administration rights to remove each new unwanted shortcut that is added by every update process.

I am guessing that the fact that the shortcut that I normally use does not have the same title as the automatically generated shortcut is why I have to delete it after every update.

Thanks in advance for your consideration to this need.

#12204 When queuing file for download Automatically scroll the Queued file list to the bottom new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When a file is added to the download queue it gets added to the bottom of the Queued files list.

There should be a setting on the Interface page where the user can elect to have the queued file list auto scroll to the bottom each time a new file is added.

This would be helpful when the user is adding multiple files as the list will scroll off the screen, so the user has to go to that section and scroll down to verify that the item was added.

The easier solution would be to have an option that when files are added to the download queue that new entries are added at the top of the list instead of the bottom, so new entries always appear at the top and the user can see that they were added to the queue succesfully.

#12208 Uploads unnecessarily slow new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

#12253 Allow for audio bell on transfer to be muted new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

This may seem silly, but for those of us who work on audio software, the "ding" on file transfer is quite annoying.

You say "turn down the volume", or "change your default speaker", both reasonable under most circumstances. But when in heavy test mode, which requires audio to be on, the ding on transfers is annoying at best, and invasive at worst.

So, what I am asking for is a "mute audio" selection somewhere in user prefs.

Thanks.

#12258 Add an option to allow specifying different IP addresses for FTP and for FTPS new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

There is a very old closed ticket on this: https://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/4050 I hope it's ok to bring this up again.

Some or many routers do behave as follows:

  • they change the FTP server PASV response, they change the internal IP to the external IP, so the FTP client gets the correct IP reported.
  • for some reason they reject the response when the external IP is specified in the FTP server response.

With this given behavior, unsecure FTP works correct when the internal IP is entered in the Passive mode settings in FileZilla Server Options.

But FTPS and FTP can not work correctly with the same settings:

  • When i specify the internal IP then on FTPS the wrong IP is reported to the FTP client because the router cannot change the internal to external IP in the PASV response when the response is encrypted.
  • When i specify the external IP then FTPS works correct, but unsecure FTP stops working because the client does not get the response.

I tested Cerberus FTP Server to figure out whether it's a FileZilla FTP server error, or whether the issue is on my side, or somewhere in the OS or hardware etc. I had the same issue when i entered the external IP in this FTP server. On research, i found then this note at https://support.cerberusftp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000043619-How-to-Setup-a-File-Server-with-Cerberus-FTP-Server

Some routers inspect FTP traffic and do not allow the public IP address to be passed in the response for the PASV command. Those routers expect the internal IP address to be used.

The solution (workaround) in this FTP server (also in tested ServU FTP server) is to specify the external IP only for FTPS.

Please add an option to allow specifying different IP addresses for FTP and for FTPS. The two commercial FTP servers which i tested have such options, they supply a workaround for this bad behavior of routers. I cannot use another router, my FTP server runs on a VM in the cloud (VMWare). And i don't want to buy a commercial FTP server. So i would appreciate to can solve (workaround) the issue in FileZilla Server.

I know FTP clients can handle wrong IP addresses in the PASV response, but i don't want to rely that all FTP client applications and all FTP client libraries work with misconfigured FTP servers.

#12290 Create new file, in the local pane new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Does anyone else wish that it were possible to create a new file in the local pane? It’s something I find myself wanting to do for various reasons. For example, I have just retrieved some files from a server, and wanted to place a readme into the same directory. Or, I may want to create a local file first, enter some content, and only upload it when done.

It just seems like, since the option exists for the remote pane, it would make sense for it to also exist in the local pane.

(Granted, it would be inferior to Explorer’s (rather terrible) New menu, but for plain-text files, it would suffice, and even Word’s new file is 0 bytes, rather than pulled from a template.)

#12298 Configuration of Cipher Suites using TLS 1.2 new Feature request high FileZilla Server
Description

Dear Filezilla Developers,

we work for a German federal government agency and have been using Filezilla server for a long time. We would like to continue using Filezilla since we are satisfied with Filezilla server and haven’t had a single problem until recently.

Currently one can not configure the cipher suites that Filezilla Server uses which according to BSI doc TR-02102-2 [2] poses a security risk and should therefore be changed.

The only post on configuring cipher suites - that we were able to find - is from 2016 [1].

In the post Tim Kosse says that..

  • a feature to configure the cipher suites is not planned
  • people who need to configure this should change the source code and compile their own versions of Filezilla

However, since 2016 new guidelines – like the one mentioned above - have emerged that require the usage or blocking of specific cipher suites when using TLS 1.2.

For example, German companies are recommended to follow the guidelines published by Federal Office for Information Security (german abbreviation: BSI). The guideline [2] lists a table of recommended cipher suites in section 3.3.1 "Cipher-Suiten" and explicitly discourages the use of all other ciphers.

Since most of German companies have to comply with the BSI guidelines Filezilla server could no longer be used. We expect other European countries to adopt similar guidelines in the near future making this feature quite urgent.

Since recommendations on cipher suites occur more often nowadays the use of a static set of cipher suites maintained by Filezilla doesn’t look like a modern solution anymore. Users of Filezilla server should be able to change the allowed cipher suites without having to recompile the software. A similar feature has already been requested in Ticket #11134 [3].

Is this feature perhaps already in development or is something similar on your scope for the next year?

We would greatly appreciate an answer to this ticket by Monday 12:00 UTC+2 since we have to discuss this issue with our management that day.

Best Regards and greetings from Germany Jonas
