Description
It would be nice if SFTP supported compression.
Often I am uploading things like EXEs and PDBs over a relatively slow connection and these are highly compressible.

Could this be joined with #2977 ? Even though one is SFTP and the other is FTP, both refer to dropping compression in v3 client. There are many similar requests.

Lack of sftp/ssh compression is currently the main reason that keeps from using Filezilla all the time.
According to this post, it may not be very hard to do. It would be nice to be able to turn it on or off via a toolbar button, as well as set a global default that can be overriden in the site manager.

This has been implemented as a global option in the repository.
This used to be in version 2, is it coming back for version 3?
