XML File corrupted when Transfer Type is Auto

The first two lines of the original file are as follows:

The first two lines of the file after uploading with Transfer Type = Auto are as follows:
㰀㼀砀洀氀 瘀攀爀猀椀漀渀㴀∀㄀⸀　∀ 攀渀挀漀搀椀渀最㴀∀甀琀昀ⴀ㄀㘀∀㼀㸀

The first line is wrong and the flash movie does not play. A work-around solution is to transfer the file using Transfer Type = Binary.

I'm using the latest version of FileZilla.

Detection is done purely on file extension.

You can change the list of ASCII file extensions in the settings dialog of FileZilla.
