#12999 closed Bug report (worksforme)

Check for updates is set at "NEVER" yet it asks me to update every day? v3.64.0

Description

Filezilla client v3.64.0 under Windows asks me to update almost every time I launch it, because there's a new version available, but:
1) Check for FileZilla updates automatically is set at "NEVER".
2) It doesn't even know what the new version is and only shows "Unfortunately information about the new update could not be retrieved."
If an user chooses to not automatically check for updates, why is Filezilla spamming them with a new update dialog that doesn't even contain any useful information to begin with?

The setting works exactly the way it is worded, if unchecked, FileZilla does not check for updates, that's why it cannot give you useful information.

I really don't understand why you say the setting works exactly the way it is worded, because it absolutely does not.

The setting is named "Check for FileZilla updates automatically" and it's set to "NEVER" so why does it check for updates automatically?

Why don't you simply update? How hard can it be?

Because over the last few updates, it just didn't work. Antivirus or Windows didn't like it and locked the process, making it impossible to apply the update without a manual download/installation + a Windows reboot, which I wish I wouldn't be bothered to do while I'm working. I prefer to plan my updates on weekends and would like the feature called "Check for FileZilla updates automatically" to actually do what it says it does. It's kind of weird that you set it to NEVER, yet it still checks for updates. Kind of spooky actually.

Antivirus didn't like it

Why tell me? Pick up your phone and call the CEO of your AV vendor.

Windows didn't like it

Pick up your phone and call Satya Nadella.

FileZilla updates do not require a reboot of Windows.

It's kind of weird that you set it to NEVER, yet it still checks for updates.

It does not check. You can verify this with a network sniffer. Just because enough time has passed that an update should be available, and thus showing a prompt to update, doesn't mean that it has checked for updates. How difficult is this to understand?

Your attitude alone is enough for me to switch to another FTP client. You just lost me as an user.

EDIT: WOW! When you install WinSCP, it actually asks you if you want to import your Filezilla bookmarks! 11/10 :)
