Hi just an update: this is still the case with the newer macOS UI, and it got even worse. Here is an updated screenshot (here in the alt-tab UI). As you can see, FileZilla is the only app without margins around (it’s also the only icon without added drop shadow).

Also attached an image version of the template from Apple, to see the margins suggested for each icon size.
The actual icon design for each icon size is:
- 824px for the 1024px icon
- 412px for the 512px icon
- 206px for the 256px icon
- 52px for the 64px icon
- 28px for the 32px icon
Divided by 2 for the @1x versions.
As for the shadow, for the 1024px icon, it is:
- 30% opacity black
- Blurred 10px
- Shifted down 10px
