i found out more information. while 3.23.0.1 was downloading, i was in the process of transferring files in queue. i stopped the queue and restarted filezilla to 3.23.0.1. then i click on "process queue" which is where it kept failing. removed from queue, reconnected via site manager (worked), then started the download again. apparently process queue doesn't reconnect using site key.

Quite an old bug. It has been in FileZilla since 3.13.0-rc1 released 2015-08-05. I'm surprised it hasn't been reported earlier.

This bug will be fixed in the next version of FileZilla.
