Never Check for Updates not working

Reported by: XaveT Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: FileZilla Client
Keywords: Never check for updates Cc:
Component version: Operating system type: Windows
Operating system version: Windows 7 Enterprise

Description

When I start the application, and it completely ignores my set option in settings of "Check for FileZilla updates automatically:" "Never".

It then goes on to find an update. What's worse is that it alerts me every time I open the application, even redownloading the update if I go to Downloads and delete it.

This seems like a pretty major bug. It's been happening for years, but I never got this annoyed with it before.

Any idea when this can be fixed? Right now I'm in triage mode and have that program firewall blocked to the filezilla site it tries to reach for update information, but that's totally unnecessary.

Which version of FileZilla are you using?

Operating system version: Windows 8.1 Update 1Windows 7 Enterprise

I'm running v3.8.1. The preference for "Never" checking for updates remains set between FileZilla sessions. But FileZilla continues to present a dialog box at every launch, telling me about an available update.

To make matters worse, I'm using FileZilla in a setting where users don't have admin privileges. Consequently, the notification about updates isn't very useful. The user can click the notification box's "Install new version" button, but the installer can't proceed.

Hmm: When I posted my update a moment ago, I entered my OS metadata as "Windows 7 Enterprise." But it seems that the original poster was on Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Please update to the most recent version of FileZilla. Old versions are not supported.

If update checking is disabled, no new checks are performed. If FileZilla already knows about a new update, the update dialog is still shown.
