Different transfer type for downloads and uploads

Description
I would like to be able to use the "Binary" transfer type for downloads and the "Auto" transfer type for uploads.

Can you give a useful example of where this is needed?
I make use of multiple servers, some Linux and some Windows.
With uploading I would like to use the Auto feature, making sure files will have the right line endings, but with downloading I would like to have it transferred via Binary mode, to have exact copies/backups as what is on the server.
