#5389 When File Transfer is cancelled using "untick Process Queue", it cannot be resumed normal worksforme 14 years 14 years

#11110 When a file change dialog appears while the context menu is expanded the UI ceases to function high fixed 7 years 7 years
Description

Using Filezilla Mac 3.23.0.2 or the previous two versions.

When a file change dialog appears while the context menu is expanded the UI ceases to function until the application is left in the background for some time, or the application is forced to quit. Clicking any of the button options available on screen does nothing.

#7893 When attempting to upload an open file, FileZilla goes into an endless loop of errors normal outdated 12 years 10 years
Description

Environment: ============ FileZilla v3.5.3. Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. All latest patches installed. Details from "About" page are pasted in below.

Description: ============ Attempting to upload an open file causes FileZilla to go into a possibly endless loop of errors.

Steps to reproduce: =================== Connect to FTP server via SFTP. Open file in MS Word. Make an update. Save it. [Leave Word Open] Using Windows Explorer, drag file into FileZilla interface to upload it. FileZilla goes into a seemingly endless loop. The status pane shows: Error: local: unable to open C:\xxxxxxxxx\filename.doc Error: File transfer failed

I don't recall prior versions of FileZilla having this problem, but I can't be sure. (I just find it hard to believe I've never tried to upload an open file before, accidentally or on purpose.)

Suggestions: ============ -Error should be specific about why it can't upload the file (i.e. file open.) -Error should ask if you want to retry. -Error should only occur a maximum number of retries, either set or specified in the preferences.

#11877 When deleting a folder named '~', it starts to delete the whole home folder normal rejected 5 years 5 years
Description

I was deleting an empty folder called ~ through FileZilla.

However, I started to notice that it was taking way too long to delete 8KB. When I looked at the logs, I saw that it was deleting all files in /home/<user>/... instead o /home/<user>/<path>/~.

Sadly, the damage had been done. I'm filling this bug report so this may not happen to anyone else.

I almost did this myself in the console, before I realized I had to use ./~ instead of ~. I'm not sure how FTP works overall, but a possible fix may be to always include ./ or the full path... no idea though.

#4995 When locale set to TR, file and folder list becomes garbled high rejected 15 years 15 years
Description

Hello,

This is an issue which seems to be previously solved, but I believe it re-appeared at version 3. (The previous ticket #: 4052)

On Solaris 9, when the locale settings are as follows (in /etc/default/init)

LC_COLLATE=tr_TR.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE=tr_TR.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES=C LC_MONETARY=tr_TR.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=tr_TR.UTF-8 LC_TIME=tr_TR.UTF-8

the folder list is incorrectly parsed and the filenames shows like this:

Kas 16 13:47 .bash_history Eki 23 2008 .profile

(This part is the datetime part: Kas 16 13:47)

#8672 When trying to view a gif file it opens up in Internet Explorer instead of Windows Picture and fax viewer normal outdated 11 years 10 years
Description

When trying to view a gif file on the server (right hand pane) the file is downloaded and is opened in Internet Explorer not in Windows Picture and Fax viewer like jpg files are. When trying to edit the file type association settings Filezilla does not allow for the correct file location syntax to be typed in.

I am using Filezilla version 3.6.0.2

#4152 When uploading duplicate file, can't rename file. normal outdated 15 years 12 years
Description

When I upload a file, for example, 0001.jpg to my server, and then I attempt to upload another file named 0001.jpg to the same directory, the client asks me if I'd like to overwrite, resume, rename, etc. If I attempt to rename the file to 0001-2.jpg, which doesn't exist on the remote server, the client once again asks me if I'd like to overwrite, resume, rename, etc. It's impossible to rename the file and upload it, unless I cancel out of the transfer and rename the file locally and then upload it, which defeats the purpose of the dialog box popping up in the first place.

#4394 When using SFTP mode with a passkey, FileZilla always asks for a password on every upload normal rejected 15 years 15 years
Description

I connect to a SFTP server where I have to use a secureID to generate a unique password. I create a site profile in Site Manager. I set "Servertype" to "SFTP-SSH File Transfer Protocol" and logon type to "Ask for Password." I put in my username and leave the password field blank.

When I log into the SFTP server, FileZilla asks for my password. I put in my secureID-generated password and choose "Remember my password for this session." Once I'm logged in, I try to upload a file, and FileZilla says, "Authentication Failed, Critical Error, Could Not Connect to Server" and asks me for a password again. I have to put in a new secureID-generated password to continue. I have to do this every time I upload, which does not make sense. I have tried other FTP clients and they remember the password for the session.

Please investigate this.

#4205 When using sFTP, remote folder with large number of files generates error. low rejected 15 years 10 years
Description

When attempting to open a folder on a remote sftp system, if the folder has a large number of files within, an error is generated and you do not get to review or navigate to that folder.

Below is the command list that is displayed.

Response: Current directory is: "/" Command: ls Status: Listing directory / Status: Calculating timezone offset of server... Command: mtime "AutomationTest" Response: 1233849901 Status: Timezone offsets: Server: -18001 seconds. Local: -18000 seconds. Difference: 1 seconds. Status: Directory listing successful Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: cd "AutomationTest" Response: New directory is: "/AutomationTest" Command: ls Status: Listing directory /AutomationTest Error: No valid incoming packet found Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

The folder in question can have upwards of some 5000 files at times.

No testing other than emptying the folder in question has been done to learn what that high limit might be.

Perhaps solution in this unusual case would be to only present partial list? or perhaps change to directory, but do not attempt to display entire contents?

If nothing else, being able to navigate to the folder at a minimum is important.

#7334 When viewing a directory with more than 9998 files, the file list is truncated at 9998 normal outdated 13 years 12 years
Description

Summary Basically, in the event you have a directory containing tens of thousands of files (like a logs directory) FileZilla only shows the first 9998 files.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Put 10 or 15k files in a directory
  • FTP into that folder

Result: First 9998 files are listed

I wrote a crappy bash script that will create an arbitrary number of files in helping to help with reproducing this corner case of a bug: http://pastie.org/1875855

To use it:

  • Create whatever.sh in a folder you want to test within
  • Execute: chmod a+x whatever.sh to make it executable
  • Run it as ./whatever.sh
  • It will ask how many files you want

Other Stuff: I have reproduced this on Windows and OSX.

I can test on Linux if someone asks but I don't have a VM currently accessible so I took the lazy route :X

#8377 Whole internet onnection breaks down when uploading normal outdated 11 years 11 years
Description

Everytime I am uploading something (joomla in this case) after a certain time (around 1-2 minutes) the whole Internet connection brakes down -> Router is blinking; Windows says that there is a problem with the DNS Server etc. So, then it'll take some time again (up to 10-60(!) minutes, even with a router reset) until the internet connection is working again.

In fact, I copied the corresponding files from my USB stick onto my system hard disc (Desktop) [regarding: http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2796] and set an upload limit to 300 KiB/s ... Didn't change anything.

#3750 Will not download updates on my laptop normal fixed 16 years 16 years
Description

I have a version, the latest on my desktop that updated ok. My laptop, I get the message that says update available. I click on it, with the normal save etc., but it just sits there. Nothing downloads. I get around it by downloading the latest version from your web site and install it, but it will not update when I get the notice, I have no idea what is wrong. This was the last 2 updates, always worked previously. Updates work just fine on my desktop and I running Vista. On my laptop, I am running XP.

#7403 Win 7 64-bit Drag and Drop critical outdated 13 years 10 years
Description

Cannot download files from FTP server to local machine by dragging and dropping out of FileZilla.

I've tested on a Win 7 32-bit machine and it works fine so this is a 64-bit problem I presume, unless there strange system settings on the 64-bit machine that are not present on the 32-bit.

#12673 Win7 / Win10 connection high rejected 2 years 2 years
Description

I'm using FileZilLa client 3.58 on a Win10 Pro workstation to connect to a Sony Deck Recorder through FTP Protocol. The connection is successful but when I tried to download or Upload a file it's says "421 1 users (the maximum) are already logged in" and follow "could not connect to the server"

When I'm doing the same thing while using or old Win 7 workstation with FileZilla 2.2.27 all went well.

All the firewall are off on both workstation. Is there any services you're aware of which could block the connection ?

#9750 Window Off Scree, can't resize or zoom to fix normal duplicate 10 years 10 years
Description

Filezilla window is off screen, top left. Can't see close/zoom red yellow green buttons or window header.

Probably related to me having two monitors (one 1920p main monitor, smaller MacPro laptop acting as second monitor).

Most apps have a Window menu with the zoom option so I can fix this, FileZilla doesn't. Tried closing and opening the app. Tried changing desktop res. No go.

#1297 Window Pushed off Screen on Mac osx normal 17 years 17 years
Description

I am using Filezilla 3.0.1 (build date: 2007-09-19) on Mac OS X (version 10.4.10)(Dual 2GHz powerPC G5),

The main application seems to work fine (from the small use I have had from it) however, whenever I open a window from the main app, (ie, site manager, update widow, about info) the location of the main application window is pushed down about half the height of the desktop toward the bottom of the screen, If I open 2 windows in a row, the main application is moved completely off screen, and the only way I have found to bring it back is to close down filezilla and open back up again.

#9566 Window cannot be repositioned high duplicate 10 years 10 years
Description

When launching Filezilla (versions 3.7x and later) the position of the window is fixed. I cannot drag the window or resize it.

Workaround: I have to click out of the window and back in multiple times before I am allowed to reposition the window on the screen.

This started around six months ago and it hasn't been fixed as of the latest version (3.8.1).

Thanks!

#9670 Window focus changes after file upload normal fixed 10 years 10 years
Description

Previous to the most recent update, upon completion of file upload the window focus remained in the local side with the files still selected, making it easy to simply hit 'return' to quickly upload those same files again. Now after a file is uploaded the window focus changes to the Host input box.

#10905 Window name URL-encoded low rejected 8 years 8 years

The OS X FileZilla window name shows the FTP account description and the username as a window title. It seems that you're using URL-encoding, at least partially. E.g., a username containing the + character will instead display %2.

#912 Window resizes on minimizing to "restored" size Alexander Schuch normal 19 years 17 years
Description

For some versions now I'm encoutering the same problem (effect, less a real problem). After minimizing the FileZilla Application window or pressing "show desktop" and switching back to FileZilla, the window resizes from "maximized" to "restored" size. This only happens the first time after starting the App; every next time I minimize or switch to desktop, everything's fine on turning back to FileZilla and the window status is still "maximized".

Any idea or suggestions?

Thanks, greetings,

Felix

#1177 Windows (XP) Shortcuts not working normal 18 years 18 years
Description

I'm pretty sure this used to work before 2.2.23. I am currently using 2.2.28.

Now, when you click on a shortcut ("symlink") in the LOCAL file list, instead of moving to that directory (like it used to), it now opens up that directory in a Windows directory view window. (I don't think it's even a file explorer window -- is there a diff?)

Description

My windows laptop recently got updated to windows 10 1803 (x64).

Since then I lost the ability to drag and drop files to windows explorer.

I get the message:

I've tried register the extension (fzshellext_64.dll), rebooted, re-installed, installed both 32 and 64 bit versions and nothing.

#10489 Windows 7 x64 Hidden Files Not Displayed low worksforme 9 years 9 years
Description

Inside the appdata/remote directory, with "Hidden" checked and applied in Local filters in "Directory listing filters", no files beginning with .[x] is displayed.

For example, Minecraft stores its files in appdata/remote/.minecraft and yet even with Hidden files enabled, that directory does not appear.

Please see the comprehensive screenshot attached.

Currently, the workaround is to type the known directory name directly into Local Site directory field. The problem is, you must be able to see the directory names you need to access.

#5347 Windows 7: network card crashes on multiple connections normal rejected 14 years 11 years
Description

In the current release 3.3.2.1 on my win7 x64 system I recognized a strange behaviour that causes my wired network card to "crash" which gets only working again after a reboot.

Following is happening, I reproduced it as described about 5 times: Downloading a huge amount of files and data from a standard webserver. To increase the overall speed, I usually download several files at a time time, mostly about 4. When 1 *bigger* file is currently downloading (> 40MB) and other *little* ones (> 5KB & < 100KB) are downloaded too, it stucks from *one moment to the other*. The described issue results in a completely freezed network card. No connections can get in or out anymore. From then it is impossible to change the IP address manually (or automatically), enable/disable it to refresh the network card or even send a ping to a known computer in the network. It seems that only a reboot of the system does help (if windows shuts down correctly, otherwise human needs to be stronger than computer by pressing the power off button)

(In the past I had a similar problem too, which was caused of too many open ftp connections because of many little files and an overhead for tcp connections, which then resulted in a stopped queue. But this queue could be continued after some minute when the server has ended all open connections in timeout and other network functions still worked.)

As already mentioned, I reproduced this about 5 times and while trying to find out if this can be avoided, following helps a bit:

  • Downloading only 1 file at a time -> many big files are not a problem, only small files even don't. Only the combination of *some* large and many small ones make trouble.
  • While downloading, I watched the queue and when a big file is currently running, I manually changed the options to 1 file so that the small files currently downloading get finished and then only the big one is left -> it worked without a problem. After the big file was finished, I switched to multiple downloads again until the next big one was coming. That was a bit annoying but still increases the overall download speed (for 4000 files)

Below is the currently used filezilla version, if you need additional detailed hardware/os information (dxdiag whatever) or more information that I might have forgotton here, let me know.

Thanks. btw. I really really like filezilla! great job :)

This issue is 100% reproducible. Windows 8 64-bit will crash during the following conditions.

  1. Have a file larger than 2GB available. (Test file I used was 2.4GB). Be connected to a valid remote FTP site.
  2. Use FileZilla Portable 3.6.0.2.
  3. From the OS (not from the "Local Site" pane in FileZilla), drag the file to the "Remote Site" window.
  4. Watch as the Windows 8 operating system crashes and your computer reboots.

I have attached an example minidump file for analysis.

After several years of satisfaction of an excellent product, I found the following issue in the last version: It makes Windows explorer crash when clicking right button (Win 7 32 bit) , with the following result (from event log): --- Nombre de la aplicación con errores: Explorer.EXE, versión: 6.1.7601.17567, marca de tiempo: 0x4d6727a7 Nombre del módulo con errores: ntdll.dll, versión: 6.1.7601.18247, marca de tiempo: 0x521ea91c Código de excepción: 0xc0000005 Desplazamiento de errores: 0x0001f9e2 Id. del proceso con errores: 0xbdc Hora de inicio de la aplicación con errores: 0x01cf8cac208c6a5f Ruta de acceso de la aplicación con errores: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE Ruta de acceso del módulo con errores: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll Id. del informe: 79185d62-f89f-11e3-a81c-eca86b715b7e --- It makes crash with right click is used on any file. And I found that only when uninstalling AND deleting the following files BY HAND, the issue disappears: --- fzshellext.dll libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll libstdc++-6.dll libwinpthread-1.dll --- In fact, I selected "Uninstall " and after process finished, it asked to reboot. Upon restart, the directory where the program was installed is full with all the files, and the issue persisted. I manually deleted all the files, but the previously mentioned were not deleted, indicating that they were used by Windows. I had to reboot to the option "Safe mode with command prompt" in order to be able to delete the files and directory. Then, after a check with CCleaner, one key remained in registry: --- ActiveX/COM Issue InProcServer32\ C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client\fzshellext.dll HKCR\CLSID\{DB70412E-EEC9-479C-BBA9-BE36BFDDA41B} --- And it was deleted manually too. All the above procedure was made TWICE, because after the first time, I reinstalled the new version, hoping that it has been only a defective installation but it has not. I hope that it is corrected for the next version because it is a very useful tool. Thank you in advance.

Description

When FileZilla updates on Windows automatically (latest update was to 3.3.0.1), it uninstalls the previous version first.

The NSIS installer should be changed to just overwrite what needs to be overwritten without uninstalling the previous version first.

#11140 WordPress wp-login.php is only transferred partially normal rejected 7 years 7 years
Description

Hello.

Since a while I encouter a bug with transferring files with Filezilla. I do not have this problem with other FTP programms (ie. CuteFTP pro), but I 'simply' prefer working with FileZilla :-)

When I transfer all files from a WordPress installation from the (external) server to an EMPTY folder on my pc, most of the times the wp-login.php files is not being transferred. I get an error message (see attachment 1) "Target file already exists" (although the folder was empty when I started the transfer).

When I click OK, the error message keeps coming back.

When Ik click Cancel, all other files are being transferred. In the end, the transfer is 'hanging' for a while (see attachement 2), after which I again get the error message.

When I click Cancel, I can see in the overview that the wp-login.php file has only been transferred partially (26 of 34 kB).

It is quite annoying as in this way the backups I make are never complete. To achieve that I have to manually copy the original wp-login.php file from the corresponding wp version into the folder where my backup is and overwrite the 26 kB file.

What is going wrong and what can I do to solve this problem?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards, Monique

The dialog shows info about the SOURCE and DESTINATION files, to let the user compare them, but in the Italian translation they are labeled as LOCALE and REMOTO, which becomes plain wrong when you are downloading a file from a remote server to your local computer, becaus the remote file will then be labeled "local" and the local one will be labeled "remote"!

The correct translations for SOURCE and DESTINATION should be used instead, i.e.: SORGENTE e DESTINAZIONE.

I realized that when it is clicked with the right mouse button on the files, on the server side list, when are removing folders in recursive mode on the server, is active the message "get into the folder" in context menu. The option that I believe is possible is to disable all the options from the right-click menu on this case (right click on file when recursive removing is in progress).

The dates listed in FileZilla is wrong. 2011-10-28 are listed as 1970-04-04. It can possibly be a problem in FreeFTPd, but WinSCP lists it correct. Setup for vsftpd is set so "use local time", means, it should display the time and date on the server.

After uploading a file with filezilla, the change/creation-Date and Time for the new or changed file is set two hours into the future.

Trying the same with other ftp-clients like fireftp, smartftp, total commander etc, the changedate and time is displayed correct.

I could change the Timezone and Setting for each Server within the servermanager, but due to the fact of summer/winter-time this is a bit annoying.

Greetings

#4978 Wrong file/directory name by server side. normal rejected 15 years 10 years
Description

I connect to SCO UNIX ftp server. I use polish version of FileZilla Client. Files/directories with modification date in October ('październik' in polish) have wrong name in server side view panel. I can't use this files/directories (get, open, ...). I think diacritical character 'ź' is the reason for this bug. Name of directory is: 'mounth day time realname', for example: 'paź 21 9:21 adm' (modification date of this file/directory is 21st October)

Example of this situation you can see on attached picture.

Sorry for my English.

#5563 Wrong filesize shown (2 GB for a file of 1.079.192 bytes) normal fixed 14 years 14 years
Description

Hello,

I recently wondered that a file that should be around 1 GB was shown as "2 GB" in the FileZilla Client v3.3.4.1. After downloading from the Linux/Debian server, the file also had "2 GB" on the local disc - according to FileZilla Client. However the Windows Explorer is quite sure that it actually only has 1.02 GB.

If I change to more than 0 decimals in the settings, FileZilla shows a size of 1.03 GB. Therefore I guess FileZilla rounds up the filesize in a suboptimal way.

#5234 Wrong mouse pointer on drag&drop with serverside folders (move vs. copy) normal wontfix 14 years 14 years
Description

Dragging and dropping folders on server from one location to another (but still on the same server) is a "move" operation. But the mouse pointer while dragging is adorned with the "[+]" indicator, suggesting that a copy operation will happen on drop. This is clearly misleading.

Therefore: On drag&drop, the mouse pointer should reflect correctly the type of file operation that is going to be performed on drop: "copy" (mouse pointer with [+] indicator) or "move" (mouse pointer with [<box>] indicator).

Also, it logs in as 'anonymous@…'. I think it would be preferable to prompt for a username for sftp links (there are relatively few anonymous SFTPs). It may be nice to pompt for a username after unsuccessful anonymous access for all protocols anyway...

I agree that Windows wouldn't like to welcome this file as is, with that filename that is, but putting it into another folder is worse. Maybe a middle solution could be negotiated? Like replacing unauthorised characters with '_' or ?

#3697 Wrong/Unwanted driver information normal 16 years 16 years
Description

Brief setup explanation:

On my web development setup, I have a server where all my work files are stored. Each project is its own folder in this server, and each folder is shared independently (the Projects folder isn´t shared).

Then, on my machine (Windows XP SP2) I map these shared folders into VIRTUAL DRIVERS. This way, all my projects appear to be in HDs, whereas they are actually shared folders on a network.

I can then LABEL these drivers (just like I can RENAME a real driver). All the drivers share the same REAL NAME (the server´s name), but Windows allows me to label (not rename, just label) them differently so I name each of them after the PROJECT NAME.

FileZilla displays the DRIVER NAME (server´s name) instead of the DRIVER LABEL. So all my 13 virtual drivers are named the same in FZ, and I have to rely on Driver Letter to figure out which one is the one I need at the moment!

Soooooo easy to fix!

I was using an eval version of SmartFTP, and that little software gets the virtual driver label correctly, so a solution is attainable.

FileZilla is the closest thing to SmartFTP in usability, and I see a LOT of potential in it! I would also like to participate in the development.

#11074 Wrongly deleted local downloaded files while performing the deleting job on FTP server high rejected 7 years 7 years
Description

It happened in both 3.22.2.1 and 3.22.2.2. I almost will use FileZilla client to do the photo-downloading job every day from my smartphone in which a FTP server app will run. After downloading finished, I then will delete all the source pictures in server. While the deleting-job is running, if the server app works fine, everything will be OK; if the server app is unexpectedly shut down due to the phone's power-saving mode or my quiting touch, the FileZilla client will give a error message in message log area such as "connection failed". In such condition, One or several downloaded and locally stored files will be modified: the sizes turn into 0, which means the file bodies are lost and only names are kept. And after the server app is re-run and connetion is re-built, the names of those 0-size files will show again in the transfer queue area, not the queued-files page, but the failed-transfers page, it seems the client wants to download those pictures again from server, but failed because they also have been deleted from server already. Then I have to face the situation: I lose these pictures forever because the source in server has be earsed and the local copies have been modified into 0-size.

#3291 XML write error when closing multiple instances Tim Kosse high 17 years 17 years
Description

OS: Windows XP SP2 FileZilla version: 3.0.1 Repeatable: Always

Description of problem: If you close multiple copies of Filezilla quickly or simultaneously, you get an error.

Steps to repeat:

  1. Open two instances of Filezilla. You do not need to connect to any sites. Opening the application is enough.
  1. Close them quickly. The easiest way to do that is to Ctrl-click each button on the task bar for each instance of FileZilla, then right-click and Close Group.
  1. You should get two errors:
  2. "Failed to create backup copy of xml file"
  3. "Failed to copy the file '%appdata%\FileZilla\filezilla.xml' to '%appdata%\FileZilla\filezilla.xml~' (error 32: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)"

[Note that %appdata% above means the path to the user's Application Data folder.]

It looks like an error with filename collision for temporary files.

#10623 [REGRESSION] Site manager window is huge and cannot be resized normal outdated 9 years 9 years
Description

I opened the Sites Manager.

The window is ridiculously tall, as you can see from the screenshot. It even exceeds the height of the screen, though fortunately the buttons are accessible (but what if my screen had been smaller?!?)

What is much worse, the window CANNOT BE RESIZED.

I tried to resize in the standard way as you do in Ubuntu. The resizing cursor does appear when you hover the mouse over the upper borders or corners of the window (the lower ones are outside the screen; note that if you were on mac you could only resize the window from the bottom), but clicking and dragging doesn't resize the window as expected.

This issue has appeared after I upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 15.04 (through 14.10). So this is a regression somewhere between whatever version was distributed with 14.04 and whatever version is distributed with 3.9.0.5

#10265 [Ubuntu only] Right clic when changing file/dir name = Freeze normal outdated 9 years 9 years
Description

Every time I want to copy a file/dir name with "right clic->copy" it "freezes" filezilla just after I do right clic. After that, I can only kill the process using OS task killer.

It only tested it under Ubuntu (any version) and I can confirm that it doesn't happens under Windows. I'm using FileZilla 3.7.3 but the bug has been there for a long time.

#11000 [gtk3] "Rename" gui issues when GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0 and there are scrollbars in the pane normal worksforme 8 years 8 years
Description

using FileZilla package provided by my distribution, Fedora; it's compiled against GTK3 ...

GTK3 has a new "overlay scrolling" feature which makes it so that scrollbars aren't visible until you put the mouse over the pane. This feature can be turned off by setting the environmental variable GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0. I have turned the overlay scrolling off in this way.

in FileZilla, if GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0 and the pane has a scrollbar, the "Rename" function usually (if you try more than once, you will likely see the problem) does not produce the inline input box GUI (instead the file just remains highlighted). in reality, you can still rename the file by using the backspace button and typing characters, but you do so blindly as you can't see any of this is working (e.g. you can't see the characters you type) until you press enter and the filename is in fact changed.
