Filezilla shows it downloads the file, but in Windows I get the filename truncated to "UAS_EDR901-06-09" with 0 size.

We are running into one issue to delete file. The file name contains QUIT as part of fil name, like "Hotel Quito - JW Marriott.pdf". Please help!

Version of FileZilla is 3.5.0

If the 1st character of a filename is a blank, FZ client (ver 3.10.2) does not display it. The download fails with "no such file or directory", see attached screen clip. First file is " Floral...."

ISP administrator had to fix filename (remove blank char), then downloaded OK.

Trying to open the Desktop folder produces the message "Failed to get desktop path".

Although the path for my desktop and my documents have been altered, their locations are properly set in the registry and Filezilla can access the "my documents" folder without problems.

Filezilla should not try to get the desktop by following the %USERPROFILE%\Desktop route but it should get the path from the registry.

Both 3.05.2 and 3.06 fail to download and upload many file with Traditional Chinese characters (Big5 code). same file can upload and/or download without problem after rename. Rename back to orginial Chinese name through the client have no problem. Download of same file with orginial Chinese name through DOS mode FTP have no problem.

I am running Windows XP SP3 and FZ 3.2.0. I am trying to download file from IIS 6 server hosted on W2K3. FZ fails, while WinSCP succeeds. I would expect that it is bug of IIS, but still WinSCP manages to retrieve a file. More info in log.

Hi We have a few clients that receive the message "Failed to load SSL libraries" when trying to connect to our FileZilla Server. Our Users are currently running FileZilla 3.10.1.1 and our FileZilla Server version is 0.9.43. We understand that there are newer versions of the FileZilla Server, but since this server is in production we do not want upgrade (which will affect other clients) until we know for sure other that it will address this issue. Other Technical information about this issue is:

We have currently set up the Server to use FTPS on Port 990. The Server Certificate is a FileZilla generated cert using TLS 1.2 On the Server when the connection fails we can see a message in the log: "431 Could not initialize SSL connection"

The clients are set to use: Protocol: FTP- File Transfer Protocal Encryption: Require implicit FTP over TLS Logon Type: Normal

FTP client fails when connecting to a FANUC robot. Before, I was using Filezilla 3.0.2.1, and everything was working great. I upgraded to 3.0.11.1 today and now it doesn't work. FANUC documentation claims support for 2.2.31.

FANUC uses a default directory: "md:\". So when you log in you are not at "\", but at "md:\". Maybe this is causing the error?

Hi guys. Thank you for taking the time to help me I'm painfully new at this. I was just able to get Filezilla to connect with my website (hosted via hostgator) and I received the following errors:

I think the problem is that it failed to 'parse returned path' and 'retrieve directory listing'. Can anyone help me fix this?

Iv just started getting this error sence 3.1.1.1 I just installed windows XP sp3 and it has not made a differance.

I think this is related to Active mode. I have opened a 1000 tcp/udp ports on my router. This error shows up straight away with only 20 ports open. I am transferring a few thousand files in a lot of folders (Joomla site). Filezilla should retry these failed commands a bit later, it does work after a few fails or after first try. Maybe burst mode has something to do with it? I set to High and still not 100% working.

After a while I get some of these errors flashing by, but at random seemingly.

I setup pureftpd and vsftpd on my test server and if I have pureftpd running (which uses MLSD for listings) and then stop and start vsftpd (which uses LIST for listings) it will give the following error on filezilla when trying to refresh the listing until filezilla is closed and reopened.

Windows XP client build 5.1.2600 w/ SP2.

Trying to connect using FZ client to a RHEL server running VSFTPD configured with FTP over explicit SSL.

Using the latest FZ client version (3.1.5.1), could connect to the server however fails trying to bring up the directory listing.

Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Session is using passive transfer method, however, using active transfer produces same result.

In older version of FZ client(v3.0.8.1) this connects and displays the directory listing without issue.

This has been reproduced on numerous client PCs testing both versions connecting to our server.

Appears as though something has changed when it comes to TLS in the newer version of FZ client.

I've noticed connection failures in the more recent versions of Filezilla. The error that is shown is 'Failed to retrieve directory listing'.

Not all FTP sites are affected as far as I can see, only sites supporting MLSD are affected.

This issue was seen in 2 corporate networks (both using Blue Coat FTP service). As well Windows computers (Windows XP SP3 tested) as Linux computers (Ubuntu 8.10 tested) are affected.

Please find below some logs of different Filezilla versions. All versions older then version 3.2.4 seem to work fine. Please note for security reasonsm usernames, ipaddresses, filenames , ... have been modified in the log file.

Failed to retrieve directory listing with SSL/TLS using PASV

When SSL/TLS is enabled, FZ fails to retrieve a directory listing from vsftpd behind NAT.

I noticed the following difference between normal and SSL/TLS mode in the returned message from the PASV command.

However, the same vsftpd config works with FlashFXP.

I wonder why FZ isn't able to pick up 72.32.40.237 as it could when using normal FTP as opposed to SSL/TLS.

Our FTP server (Globalscape) has a no list files permission, so clients uploading cannot view or list the files on the server (security reasons). This has been working fine with previous version of FZ (3.1, 3.2), however in the latest version of FZ 3.5, this no longer works. Other FTP clients work fine also. As it used to work fine on previous versions of FZ, and now on new v3.5 no longer works, then I would categories it as a bug. Our problem is that we recommend our users to use FZ, as it's very simple robust, but were now getting clients reporting problems as they upgrade. Problem occurs on both the Windows and mac clients.

There is a ftp proxy between filezilla and ftp server. The ftp proxy caches data and do virus scanning before transmit it. Use filezilla to upload a big file, filezilla failed:

The ftp proxy sending "226-transferring data..." to ftp client while doing virus scanning to avoid ftp timeout.

Without these resonse, cuteftp and leadftp will timeout, and can work well with these response. But filezilla failed. Disable filezilla timeout, filezilla failed, too. It seems filezilla can't recognize these response correctly.

An attempted upload fails becuase I do not have write permissions on the server for the file in question [expected].

FileZilla retains a lock on the file in the local filesystem [unexpected].

Filezilla restart is required to release the file (even a successful upload after fixing file permissions does not release the earlier lock).

When downloading a file from our 'audio out' folder the process failed when other FTP servers succeeded.

I just upgraded to the current version today and now I can't communicate with the FTP service. Here is the command line summary:

I made no changes to the log-in information, but now it won't get the directory listing.

After click on Check for Updates the check will always fail even if there is a newer version. The problem appears to be the URL used to check for updates. There is no ampersand (&amp;) separators between the parameters as seen in the attached image. The URL is to updatecheck.php with a single parameter (platform) with a value of i586-pc-mingwmscversion=3.1.6osversi...

This has also happened on earlier versions.

Filezilla gives the message "Failed to retrieve directory listing" during connect. I can get around this by accessing my Cable Modem's Administrator function and changing my Firewall setting to "Minimum". I have to keep it at this level during the entire FileZilla session, through and including Disconnect.

Naturally, I do not appreciate having to leave myself vulnerable, even for a relatively short window. I'd prefer to keep the higher level set at all times.

I do not know if this is a function of FileZilla in general, of my site in particular, or of my Site Manager configuration.

As to the latter, I do not have a Port specified. I don't know if the ":21..." refers to the default port, or what the ",197,52" or "197,46" means.

I would like to know if: (a) Specifying a particular Port number will clear up this problem. (And, if so, what port number?) (b) This is a "Bug" or a Feature", and (c) If the former, can it be fixed?

I have been using FileZilla with <<Use explicit FTP over TLS if available>> with a server that does NOT support TLS/SSL encryption for many years. With the new version 3.16.1 last week apparently defaulting to plain FTP fails. If I change to <<Use only plain ftp (insecure)>> I get properly connected.

The server operator states: "Our FTP server does not (and never has) support TLS/SSL encryption. Also, our FTP server software has not been updated since Jan 2008, so I can confirm nothing on our end has changed."

Filezilla indicates that there is an update and I click through to get it. It gets the description and then fails to download the update file. It does create the file but it is of zero length. The program then fails to be responsive requiring forced termination.

This has happened for several versions.

Today I tried the update but with the file of zero length present and it did d/l the update file.

This is an issue that we have observed over the past several years, but have worked around. I just figured perhaps I should inform you because the workaround is getting to be a pain. We use Filezilla to move data folders from our Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometers to individual students' and researchers' computers for data processing. These folders contain a mixture of ASCII and Binary files. When one downloads a data folder with the Transfer Type set to "Auto" the result is corrupted data, presumably because Filezilla fails to recognize the Binary files as distinct from the ASCII files. When one sets the transfer type to "Binary", everything works just fine. The thing is, "Auto" should recognize these files and it apparently does NOT. Each year we introduce a new crop of students to using our spectrometers and the concepts of moving data and inevitably the need to switch data modes gets lost in the shuffle. I would really appreciate it if you guys could fix this.

My problem sounds the same as ticket #3736 and I have read through the network configuration guide and tried everything that seems applicable including turning off the windows firewall. Please can you advise me on what else to try.

Using the connection wizard, connetion is made with the server. But then it ends with:

I am currently on 3.2.4.1 when I try to run the update to get to 3.2.6.1 I get an error message about "timer creation failed" and it exits the update. How do I resolve this?

Upon upgrading to version 3.10.2 I receive the following message upon connecting:

"Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead."

The application then proceeds to time out after 20 seconds with this message:

"Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity

Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing."

This is my second attempt to do an upgrade to 3.10.2 - with identical results. I am returning to my previous version (3.8.0) which works fine. I will ignore the update offer which automatically pops up when I open the application - a bit of a nuisance!

When a file cannot be deleted, the messagelog panel displays the error result, but not the usual red error message.

The 1st line is in blue, the 2nd line is in green, but a 3rd was expected here telling that the command has failed.

FileZilla (2.2.12c) can't establish a TLS connection to a PureFTPd server (possibliy other servers, too?) when it (the FileZilla client) is sitting behind a NAT gateway. The problem already arises during the TLS connection negotiation (so this is _not_ a "classical" firewall issue with tracking the data connections!).

The conversation looks like this:

• Client connects to server
• Server responds with ready
• Client sends "AUTH TLS"
• Server responds with OK
• Client sends some (scrambled) request
• Server responds with (scrambled) response (obviously OK,

since there is no indication of any failure in the log)

• Both parties wait for something that doesn't happen

• ... eventually, FileZilla times out and starts all

over again The connection does not get to the point, where the TLS encryption for the control channel is succesfully established (this would show up in the log files)

Whe the FileZilla client has a "real" IP address, it can cooperate with the same server. Other clients (I tested "lftp") have no problem to establish the TLS connection through the NAT gateway.

Attached is a packet dump of the network traffic ( which due to the encryption is not really enlightening)

In 3.2.0 when I opened a PHP file associated with PHP Editor both the editor and the file opened without a problem.

When I try to do the same after upgrading to 3.2.1 i get the following error.

I am using Filezilla v2.2.26a and I have set in Connections -> Firewall settings a range of available ports to be used.

However, if Filezilla tries to bind to a port which is already in use (I have another program which might use a port from the same range) it will fail and break the current operation.

Wouldn't be possible to have Filezilla try with another port from the range?

My problem is the following. My Filezilla version is 3.14.1. Upon signing into connection I cant upload my files (transferring local files) to a personal.kent.edu server. Downloading works fine. Here is uploading session outcome response by the server:

Filezilla crashes when attempting to resume on server that has weird directory permissions, if i upload entire contents of directory, it eventually hangs after about 30 seconds.

Bandwidth throttling is on, and server has wstrange permissions.

NOt sure what other information I can obtain.

I'm getting a False Positive for my installer file created with reputable Tarma.com installer. The error is Win.Trojan.Antifw-172 I have been using Tarma created installers for many years without incident. I finally was able to upload the file as a Zip using another FTP client. It is not my AV software that is flagging this. It is FilZilla Client. See screenshot attached.

I use filezilla for most of my file editing, but one thing I think it lacks is speed after a change is saved.

Can you have a mode where it uploads the file automatically upon save (like dreamweaver)?

And also a shortcut key to press to automatically upload files in question (as opposed to clicking filezilla and then clicking upload)

Deleting a bulk of files (say 1000) takes a long time till you click a right mouse button in the remote file list or press the esc key.

When download online (not downloading from a local network server) users are downloading with various limiters blocking the speed of the download per connection: the host website/server, ISPs, company router, traffic shapers, shared wifi access points.

Typically we find when downloading backups Filezilla will quickly work through all the small files using up to 10 connections (Settings > Transfers > Maximum Simultaneous Transfers) and then sit there using only one connection per file slowly downloading the (say 2) last large files for hours since the single connection is rate limited externally.

Suggestion: Divide files larger than x (New Setting) into chunks. Divide the file size by the number of Maximum Simultaneous Connections into even chunks and place each chunk in the transfer queue as a separate file. Each chunk processed in the queue as a regular file download. Use the existing preallocate space for download feature to set up the file for writing or stitch the chunks together after.

Multiple connections will then download different parts of the same file. If the other files in the transfer have a higher priority then once a queue connection runs out of other regular files to download and becomes idle, it starts on the next chunk of the large file. Or the user can use the existing priority feature to go after the large file first.

Example: If the file is 100GB (and there are 10 Maximum Simultaneous Connections) then connection #2 downloads from the 10GB mark to the 20GB mark and so on.

External to Filezilla, the user would be required to connect to a remote server that allows multiple simultaneous connections, which is typically already enabled. Most sites we use let us download 10 files at the same time.

Since FileZilla 2.2.23a, and even on 2.2.24a, FileZilla fails to load on my Windows 98 as it is trying to find/load the "UxTheme.dll" that is not existing. Previous releases were OK on my Windows 98.

I need just a simple thing. I have several web domains with several installations in several pathes. It would be a very nice thing to have somthing like a customizable fast access panel, where it is possible to jump with only one click into a defined directory.

Allow common paths to be recalled on a per-site basis. (ie. favourites)

It's great if FZ has somewhere to store favourite folders (quick folders), so that we can go quickly to some folders (both in Client and Server) that frequently used

I upload transfer whole directories a lot during my working day and it would be great to be able to hit a key to transfer the currently selected directory.

The [ENTER] key currently transfers if the selected item is a file but expands it if it's a directory. Maybe we could have [SHIFT] + [ENTER] to transfer a directory. This would make my life so much easier using this application.

Currently there is a feature to right click on a files/folders, and select "Copy URL(s) to Clipboard", however if used on a folder, it just copies the link to the folder.

I would like it modified, or an option added, to allow this to get a list of all files in the folder (and subfolders if possible) and copy that to the clipboard, instead of the actual folder name.

For example with the following folder structure

A Folder -> Sub Folder 1 -> Sub Sub Folder 1 -> File 1

-> Sub Folder 1 -> File 2 -> Sub Folder 1 -> File 3 -> Sub Folder 2 -> File 4 -> Sub Folder 3 -> Sub Sub Folder 1 -> File 5 -> Sub Folder 3 -> File 6 -> Sub Folder 3 -> File 7

Sorry if this is inappropriate. I'm new to this but I think this app would be killer if it had just one more feature. That is the ability to take a large file and split it up into small chunks which are then downloaded using multiple threads. Much like BitBeamer and LeechFTP can do.

We have a contact using a 'slow' system that sends us small EDI files and after our upgrade to 1.1.0 started to received errors at the end of the session.

We suspect that during the session termination protocol Filezilla closes the socket quickly - creating a socket termination error on their side because they are still processing the 'Goodbye.' acknowledgement

Would you please consider adding a timeout value in MS (up to say, 5000 or more) in the configuration to allow for the client to process and disconnect from their side prior to the session destroy? Everything still works, but it generates a non-critical error for each session Thanks

I really would like to see the possibility to use a virtual file system in Filezilla. I have user WarFTP for long which supports a VFS - great. You can "compose" a directory structure for the user without any worries that he could find out about your real file structure....

This is my biggest feature request

Thank you for this amazing software.

I have 2 new features that I believe will be very useful:

1 connect the filzilla client to A google account so that the server XML list can be backed up to the drive, and will auto sync when a new server is added or a server details are updated.

2 Share details with another user. A user will be able to share 1 or many or all server details with another user by a quick export import system that uses email or any other data sharing software.

I hope you guys like the idea's I am a user with a few computers, and move around, and I feel that these days, these 2 features will help many people.

When I open the FZ client, it tries to connect by default to the local site that it had last connected to, say
Machine1

This is great, except for one day when Machine1 stopped responding - I could ping it, but I couldn’t connect to
Machine1 in Windows Explorer or by Remote Desktop. The problem on Machine1 was not caused by FZ, it was because Machine1 didn’t have enough free CPU and RAM (Machine1 was OK after our tech support restarted it the next morning).

However when I opened the FileZilla client on my PC, it tried to connect to
Machine1 and so FZ froze. I couldn’t find a way to stop FZ from trying to connect to
Machine1 and ended up re-installing FZ.

Please provide a way to stop the FZ client from trying to connect to a local site. Or at least put a time-out of, say, 10 seconds. I’m using Windows 7.1 (with the latest Win Updates, and anti-virus updates); file log was not enabled so I don’t have any logs to send.

Request to add banned files, banned file types, allowing wildcards to user interface where banned files would not show in users directory listing and not be allowed to upload.

It would be useful if Filezilla Client could show a diff of the remote file against the local version, launched via the context (right-click) menu.

The differences between files could be shown either using basic diff command output, or perhaps make the application configurable so that users can select WinMerge or Kompare, for example, depending on preferences and platform.

Currently FileZilla will check for new versions at start up. When I open FileZila is not because I am hoping to find an update, but because I want to get some work done. Often I am operating under some time pressure.

I want to stay up to date. But I want it to be a background process that happens when the program closes, not when it opens (which makes we wait between 1 and 3 minutes every time the program starts).

So please create an option that will move the update check alert to the shutdown sequence. I am picturing a dialog that says something like "FileZilla has been updated. would you like have the new version installed after shutdown?". I can't imagine a time when I would say no to that request.

I love that FileZilla is still under active development. I am glad you push updates regularly. I could just disable the update check. But I don't want that.

I edit files in a windows environment. The file extension tells the editor how to behave. The target platform is legacy, where a filename has 1-8 characters only. Request example for copy file from windows to legacy: FILENAM1.CBL -> FILENAM1. Also: FILENAM2.SBL -> FILENAM2. Example for copy file from legacy to windows: PROGNAM1-> PROGNAM1.CBL (only one possibility here). WinFTP Pro has this feature. See also ticket 5400. Thanks.

Before I was introduced to your wonderful software, I used the freeware LeechFTP which has a feature I find extremely helpful:

If was viewing a web page, with LeechFTP also running, and the web page had links to pdf files or some other type I wanted to download, simply by copying the link, LeechFTP would capture that link and automatically download the file to whatever directory LeechFTP was set to.

It would be wonderful if this feature could be added to FileZilla.

I have been gladly impressed by FileZilla. I'd never found an ftp program so good... and it is even better considering its wonderful price ;).

There is a feature that I have been looking for from long time ago in an ftp program that I haven't found yet. I think it could be a great complement for FileZilla. This is a "backup mode". I think it could be very helpful for webmasters with slow dial-up connections like me that want to make backups of our websites, but without wasting the time of downloading all the files that haven't changed since the last backup.

It could be implemented as a new feature or simply as a new option in the dialog box that appears when a downloaded file is already in the local computer. In addition to the current "Overwrite", "Rename" and "Skip" options, this new button could be called something like "copy only if newer".

FileZilla Client only has to copy the URL address of the FTP, it would be great if the ability to make available also copy the URL of the HTTP address, would greatly facilitate our lives. Eg

FTP URL: ​ftp://host @ ftp.host.com / www / menu.php (this feature already exists) HTTP URL: ​http://www.host.com/menu.php (this feature does not exist)

I am using Macbook mid 2009 10.11.6 el capitan vpn on | FileZilla was working GREAT! until the newest update came recently.. Now all I can do is log into my ftp sites. All ability to download simple files is failing the filezilla process. Please Advise..

I corrected a lot of translations, accents, incorrectly spelt words or translations.

I think it could be a bug : I use filezilla 1.5a to upload something on an ftp, using quick connection (i write address ,user , password). I finish to use filezilla and i kill the program. When i run filezilla again and i go to

file - reconnect

filezilla reconnects to my ftp server even if the addres, user and password are blank. If i have used filezilla in an internet-point or in an other pubblic acces everyone could connect to my ftp and delete or upload anything.

I have the .gz extension associated with 7-zip, but FileZilla client starts winzip instead. Doubleclicking in Explorer does start 7-zip.

It would be very useful to have an email notification system integrated with filezilla server.

So you can notify the users via email of any new files, modified files, or deleted files from the server.

Nice to have the email list from the groups of filezilla users.

This could really push up filezilla server for the commercial use on every kind of company that has ftp access for file sharing.

I would also be willing to donate if the future is implemented.

If we Download a File from a FTP Server, the Rights are changed. And we can't change it with chmod or a system buil-in GUI afterwards. We have to download it as a zip or as a .dmg for mac then it works. Theres not the rights themselves who are false setted. Because after chmod 777 the rights should be setted right and it also shown. But still we have no permission to write...

Files download to 100%, but then don't continue to download the next file.

if i restart the application, then it clears it out, goes to the next file, and then doesn't continue until its closed and restarted again
