#4402 | Edit function confuses folders | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
When editing a local file in C:\folder1\folder11 and, afterwards, asking to edit another local file with the same name in C:\folder1\folder12, the FileZilla client still tries to open the file in the first folder. It shows this warning: "A file with this name is already being edited. Do you want to open again C:\folder1\folder12\filename.htm?" Even asking to open this file, FileZilla opens the file from the wrong (folder11) folder. |

#3742 | Edit option grayed out in local context menu | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
FileZilla Client Version 3.1.2 Build date: 2008-08-30 Context menu to "Edit" a file on the local site window is grayed out if not connected to a remote site. "Open" works but doesn't use the defined editor. Once connected to a remote site the Local Site Window "Edit" option becomes available. I noticed this right away when I first upgraded from version 2. This bug previously reported 5 weeks ago as ticket #3637 "Edit option not available" and closed by sf-robot. That ticket stated: "This problem began when I updated from 3.0.11.0." |

#3388 | Edit option not loading application | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Filezilla version: 3.0.5.2 O/S: Windows Vista It's great to see the 'Edit' option appear on the right-click menu, as it was with Filezilla v2. However I am having a problem opening PHP and ASP files on my Vista system. Both of these file types are associated with Textpad on my system, and if I double-click them in Explorer they load up in Textpad. But if I right-click a local file in Filezilla and select Edit, I get errors. ASP files produce this error: http://screencast.com/t/Fvc2dh3y PHP files produce this error: http://screencast.com/t/hyRpEXgBz |

#1978 | Edit remote file | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
If you choose "Edit File" for a file on the remote server, the file being edited should be downloaded, opened with associated program (or Open With") and ask/automatically uploaded (by remembering the file date/time and doing a comparison) to the remote server each time the file is saved on the local machine (or if easier, when you exit the editor). A prompt asking the user "The file has been changed locally, do you want to update the server with the new file?" should come up as a confirmation. |

#4587 | Editing of files is very cumbersome compared to another software | Bug report | low | FileZilla Client | worksforme

Dear Sir/Madam, I donwnloaded the free File Zilla from your website and also, for comparison, the shareware trial version of Smart FTP. Whereas the process of uploading files and deletion of files is quicker in File Zilla, Editing of files is very cumbersome. On the other hand, Editing facility in Smart FTP (e.g. automatic opening of .html files in Notepad and .css files in Microsoft Frontpage) is good. #4299 | Editor Configuration using old editor even after editor change | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
I have FileZilla running, the latest released version 3.2.2.1. I am using Vista Home Premium Service Pack1. When i try to open a file in the local directory, it says "The file <filename> can not be opened: The associated program <fullpath of program and filename> could not be found.". I used "Edit->Settings" and changed the "File Editing" to use "Use Custom Editor" and entered a different editor path (it was pointing to an older version of editplus and i changed to WebExpression). but when i try to open the file, it gives me the same message with the name of the previous editor. I played with various settings on the "File Editing" configuration window but it has no effect, i get the same error regardless. I also cleared the private data and this had no effect. i also have restarted the application and this also did not have any effect. I also changed the file association for the given file, at the explorer level this is changed because the icon is different now which is also right icon image for the file. but the program still does not open and gives the same error. When i right click on the file, Edit is grayed out but "Open" is not grayed out and that is what i am selecting to open the file. i also changed the editor from WebExpression to edit++ and still getting the same thing. |

Please check your filetype associations. Looks like it's choking on something in the filename... maybe the apostrophe in the path. |

#3323 | Empty challenge text during interactive login under wxGTK | Bug report | normal | Other
Description |
Problem: I'm using GRC's PPP for passwords. The idea is that you have a paper card with you with lists of passcodes. When you log in, the server asks you for your password and then asks you for a passcode on the card. This is accomplished through challenge-response (interactive keyboard-based) SSH authentication. Filezilla does not ask the challenge that the server asks. How to reproduce: Install Filezilla 3.03 on Ubuntu Gutsy. Install ppp-pam and configure it for SSH (located at http://code.google.com/p/ppp-pam/) Open Filezilla, configure it to log in using SFTP, then choose the interactive login method. Connect to the server. What happens: The interactive dialog pops up, but it is blank and it doesn't ask which passcode to enter. See this screenshot: http://i12.tinypic.com/7wffgqq.png FileZilla should be asking for "Passcode 3A [1]", but the challenge box is blank. However, if the correct passcode is entered, the server authenticates me. Again, I'm using FileZilla 3.0.3 with Ubuntu Gutsy. |

#1194 | Empty directory listing | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I am using FileZilla 2.2.29 to connect to an SFTP server based on commercial SFTP server code from Mocana (www.mocana.com). When connected to the server, directory listings always show "<Empty directory listing>" in the remote site pane. However from the attached Filezilla log it would seem that the server is sending a perfectly good listing. Other SFTP clients (openssh, WinSCP and psftp) can list files on the server without this problem. Any help would be much appreciated. |

#7939 | Empty directory listing bug | Bug report | low | FileZilla Client | outdated

I've got the following trouble in all FileZilla versions i had used including the latest (3.5.3) Empty directory listing doesn't work properly (in both passive and active mode). When i try to open an empty directory or upload a file in an empty directory opening or upload fails in most cases (about 85% – sometimes, seemingly randomly, it passes). I presume that this is server-related trouble but since the server is a popular public host with very "standard" settings the trouble could be resolved. Some other FTP-client (but not all) are working properly with this server In the attachment is the log of uploading the file in an empty directory. Below is my system parameters: Windows 7 64-bit AMD Athlon 64 X2 |

#12248 | Empty directory listing when MLSD is used | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
Good afternoon, I've been developing a small FTP Server for use in an embedded project, and have been using the FileZilla Client as my go-to client for testing each part of the project. I've come across an issue where FileZilla Client shows "Empty directory listing" when using the MLSD command, but works OK if I disable MLSD support and it reverts back to the LIST command. This issue is only present in the FileZilla Client on Windows. The same version of FileZilla on an Ubuntu machine works fine and directory listing works as expected for both LIST/NLST and MLSD. Additionally, other FTP Clients for Windows work OK when using the MLSD command, so I'm hesitant to believe it's the server that's at fault. I've attached a copy of the log (in Verbose mode) for your review, although I can't see any errors myself. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need further information. |

#281 | Empty lines | Bug report | normal | Other
Description |
I have problems viewing and editing remote files trough FileZilla... When I open a file for editing, new, empty, lines has been added between every single line in the document. After removing all the hundreds of empty lines, I saved the file again. When I opened it again later, all the lines were back again. I have tried opening the file in a few different programs, with the same result. That is what makes me think FileZilla is the problem. |

#1202 | Empty local file window | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Version 2.2.8 and several versions before During a compile a new version of one of my apps using mingw (which takes a few minutes), the local file window is refreshed and it after that shows nothing. I suspect that FileZilla steps out once it cannot gain access to files within a certain time frame. A manual refresh after compile has finished does not make the empty local file window go away. The local directory window remains the same before, during and after. |

#767 | Empty remote list problem, detailed info | Bug report | normal | Other

Similar to request 1049781, 843691, 614962. FileZilla is exhibiting a strange behavior. For just one server in my list of sites it's displaying an empty remote directory but not indicating any errors. This site had no problem when I first started using the app at 2.2.5 but recently "broke". Upgrading to 2.2.9 didn't resolve it. Switching active/passive has no effect. There have been no changes to the ftp server that I'm aware of, and other ftp clients including various installs of FileZilla still seem to work fine. #2246 | Enable SSL/TLS-Only Connections | Feature request | normal | Other
Description |
There should be a mechanism which does one or the other of the following: (Easy, Preferred, global setting) In the General Settings Options menu, there should be a menu which will allow specific kinds of access to the FTP server. It could include checkboxes for the types of access the adminstrator desires such as "Standard" for usual port 21 activity, "SSL" to enable only ssl, "TLS" to enable only tls. It should also have the ability to select one at a time, a combination of two, or all three. This would give the administrator the ability to only permit secure access, restrict to one method of secure commication, allow open access, or any combination of the former. FileZilla Server 0.96a's default behavior is to accept and allow all connections despite SSL/TLS being enabled. Therefore the administrator cannot restrict to secure-only communication, the user has to make that choice in their FTP client. (Difficult, Admins get more control, per user/group setting) Give the ability for specific users/groups to access various folders to which their respective groups/users permit access depending on if the session is open or encrypted. Example: User1 belongs to Group1 and Group2. Group1 is the user's home folder with public access. Group2 is a data-sensitive folder that requires an encrypted connection to gain access. If user is logged in with standard ftp access, the user will be denied access to Group2 until the user logs in with SSL/TLS. I am *very* pleased with the current release, this feature request will bring FileZilla server up to corporate standards where security is a prerequisite. |

The only thing I'd really like to see is the ability to drag a file to the desktop and have it download it to there, and vice versa (drag a local file to the remote file list and have it upload where I drop it). If I could drag a file out of the Filezilla window to the desktop I'd consider the program just about perfect. By the way, thank you for a great product! Even without any changes it's absolutely fantastic - thank you for making it available! |

#2877 | Enable/Disable proxy usage on a per site basis. | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
When operating behind a firewall, there is a need to connect to sites that are both behind and outside of the firewall. It would be a good thing to be able to enable/disable the use of the FTP proxy on a site by site basis. Right now, you have to set the proxy to 'None' to connect to the internal sites and set it to the proxy to use to access sites outside the firewall. Unfortunately, setting the proxy to 'None' loses the custom proxy settings (which I have to use). This feature I am requesting to add is: All enabling/disabling of the use of the FTP proxy by site in the client. |

#4565 | Encoding passwords | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
I'd like the passwords in recentservers.xml and sitemanager.xml to be encoded. Lately, quite a few trojan horses harvest FTP logins for mass infection of websites. I think it's necessary to make ftp login harvesting as hard as possible, thus encryption of passwords seems much needed. |

#1226 | Encountering Hidden Directories | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
The problem is we use a hidden unix directory to allow us to share a username/password, yet provide relatively private directories. It achieves the degree of security we require - after all, it is FTP :-) /pub permissions are 555 (r-xr-xr-x) /pub/hidden permissions are 711 (rwx--x--x) and it is owned by ROOT /pub/hidden/whatever permissions are 755 (rwxr-xr-x) and is owned by the ftp account. This allows me to have full access to /pub/hidden/whatever, but (as intended) doesn't let me view the names of any directories in /pub/hidden. Anyways, FileZilla seems to get stuck traversing down the directory tree when it gets to /pub/hidden, even though my initial directory is set to /pub/hidden/whatever. If I manually traverse down the tree, it shows the contents of the /pub/hidden as <Empty directory listing> & returns to that listing no matter what subdirectory I enter. Please let me know if you think this is might be resolved in a future release. I would be happy to test any new version for you. |

#8237 | Encrypt passwords | Bug report | critical | FileZilla Client | duplicate
Description |
Just found out about this due to a recurrent series of website hacks which seem on investigation to be to this error. It's really lax. Even if FZ is not being used at the time, any virus or malware can scoop up the ftp addresses, usernames and passwords. I have been recommending FZ for years, but I am now putting out an advisory to stop using it as a matter of urgency. For those using it to manage a lot of sites, a single infection on a client machine could trigger weeks of server clean-up work. And I'm frankly shocked by the developer's response to tickets and forum posts on this over the years. It borders on negligence for such an otherwise excellent tool. |

#5530 | Encrypt stored passwords (using file system facilities; NOT master password) | Feature request | high | FileZilla Client | fixed
Description |
For Windows Clients, in %appdata%\filezilla\sitemanager.xml the passwords are stored plaintext. This is generally bad security practice, as any malware that is aware of filezilla (as many are aware of and utilize stored passwords in Windows Explorer FTP) can harvest FTP credentials and upload malicious files to any stored webserver FTP addresses. Windows provides an easy mechanism to encrypt passwords using DPAPI: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms995355.aspx Specifically, the two functions of interest are CryptProtectData: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa380261.aspx and CryptUnprotectData: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa380261(VS.85).aspx These functions will handle encryption and key management to store the passwords. They should be used with the optional entropy to further increase the difficulty in other applications extracting that information. If working in .Net the System.Cryptography.ProtectedData class provides managed access to DPAPI so that PINVOKE marshalling is not necessary. Alternitively sitemanager.xml could be entirely encrypted using AES with the passwords stored in the encrypted file, however the encryption key should be computer/user specific and stored via DPAPI. Either route comes with drawbacks however - it makes migrating settings to new installs more difficult (can't just copy sitemanager.xml and drop it in the %appdata% directory of the new install) so that is a drawback to be aware of. In OS X the same functionality is provided via the Keychain API in the functions SecKeychainAddGenericPassword and SecKeychainFindGenericPassword. I am unaware of a linux equivelent |

#10009 | Encryption on all mgr connections reset to Use explicit FTP over TLS if available | Bug report | high | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
around version 3.10.0, Encryption on all Site Manager connections get reset on the upgrade to Use explicit FTP over TLS if available. it's a real pain to put them back on 200 entries one by one. I begin to wonder if somehow the setting in the XML file got globally set to this new value or the encryption setting simply got ignored due to a bug either in reading or writing the xml file. if I change the entry, it stays changed, so I am guessing it only happened during the upgrade process. strangely enough, I looked through the sitemanager.xml file, and nowhere do I see my Encryption type saved. so I guess it got dropped from some previous or current version. edited sample: <Server>

#10944 | Enhance Password Security | Feature request | high | FileZilla Client | duplicate
Description |
FileZilla is a great tool and I have seen the former arguments to refuse the improvement of Password Security and I understood them fully. Yes, it is not possible to have a tool that is 100% secure. But the point is to have a tool that is as secure as possible with respect to functions and usability. The argument against a master password was, that an intruder or malicious code could capture the master password entry "as easy as reading out the config with the stored passwords". Is it really exactly the same? No, it isn´t. The probability for an intruder or malicious code to successfully read out the config is much higher then the probability to stay undiscovered in the system (for hours, days or weeks) an then be able to successfully capture the entering of a master password and then read out the passwords. So FileZilla would with a small improvement be much more secure than today! So please think over the old convictions and PLEASE add a Master Password to FileZilla to protect the FTP-account passwords in a better way than today. |

#12136 | Enhanced directory (folder) removal confirmation message | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
When I attempt to remove a directory, filezilla prompts with an ominous warning, "are you sure you want to remove this folder and all of it's contents." The implication is that you are about to do something dire, from which there is no recovery. In fact, the directory may be empty or it may be loaded. My request is to change the message as follows. If the target directory is empty, the message should state "Are you sure you want to remove this empty directory?" If the directory is not empty, the confirmation message would say "Are sure you want to delete this directory[ and its 999 files][ and its 999 sub-directories]." I submit that this request is so trivial to implement and of such high value that it be given highest priority so we can do it, be done with it and not have to track it for very long. Thank you. |

Currently selecting the column heading in the download queue does not sort the download list. The column headings act like sort buttons, but nothing happens when they are selected. I download massive (1.2 GB) folders of data from my office on a regular basis. The folders contain files that range in size from a few KB to several hundred MB. I always prioritize my download to grab the smaller files first, and the larger files last. The ability to sort the download queue by filesize would enable me to assign priority to my download queue much faster. I have tried this with every version of filezilla that has been released. Currently I am running Filezilla 3.1.5 on a Windows XP SP3 laptop. |

#12622 | Envato Market Place don't show apparently successfully transferred files. | Other | normal | FileZilla Client | rejected
Description |
Using FileZilla to upload photos to Envato Market Place we find that files don't show up in the Envato webpage although it seems that there is no problem in filezilla. We've successfully transferred files for months with no problem and when we downloaded the newest version of FileZilla the problem started. When we finish the connection with filezilla (everything looking normal just like when everything worked fine) and connect again with the server, the files we tried to upload the last time (but failed to show up in the Envato webpage) are still in Filezilla which is not usual when files are uploaded successfully. We've tried many things and nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help in advance. |

Bom dia, tudo bem? |

Steps to reproduce: 1) Open filezilla, assert that language is set to "Default system language" (otherwise do it and restart filezilla). 2) Settings -> switch to language English (en). Press OK 3) Setting -> switch back to language "Default system language". Now nearly all calls to menuitems lead to this segfault. This is no tragedy but I do want to mention it. |

#5482 | Error Doc XML reading attributes | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | worksforme
Description |
Good afternoon, First, excuse me for the bad language but I am french, and not really in the IT field. I currently use Filezilla Client 3.3.3. on a PC with windows XP. I never had such a problem since the error read in my ticket's subject. When opening FileZillaI got a window saying 'The Xml doc is not in the right setting : error reading attributes', so the previous favorite settings won't be set, you will run on the basic setting. I got this message whenever I run Filezilla and so must re-shape the windows and my previous read files every time. I tried to uninstall then re-install Filezilla but nothing changed. I checked the forum before posting and though I use both Avast as an Antivirus and ZoneAlarm as a firewall, none of them are blocking the programm to connect to whatever and whenever it wants to. I believe something is wrong in the xml code. Can you help me fixing it? Regards. |

#10298 | Error Replacing Files | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client | invalid
Description |
Hi There, I have been experiencing an error lately when I attempt to drop files into folders that are intended to replace outdated files. Perhaps some context will help... We operate an online storefront for Neighborhood Health Plan. They have thousands of products which are identified by product codes. For example, one item might be labeled "11020". Each product has a thumbnail and full sized image which we drop into a directory in Filezilla, which we pull from when "creating the product". Thumbnail images have a _2 suffix, with _1 for the full sized image. Now, lets say they print a new version of 11020 with new graphics, new colors, etc.. In this case we would need to create and drop in new thumbnails. So I would Scale and crop the image, save as 11020_1 and 11020_2, and drop it into the appropriate directory. When I do this, I see a prompt asking me If I want to replace the existing files with these new ones. I click yes to replace, but the file never gets swapped out. I find that the only option I have is to change the suffix to _T and _F for the new file to be available. There are several other ramifications for this replace file bug, but I figured this was the easiest way to describe it. |
