Filezilla 3.9.0.1

You can no longer use the numpad enter button to initiate a file transfer. You can use the numpad enter button to confirm a file transfer though.

The remote server window still indicate I've 9998 files in it, but I've 10050 files there and still adding but that indicator never updates.

The number of simultanious connections to any given server should be settable individually per destination server. Indeed, it may well be that one server can sustain many simultaneous connections while another may support only a few. Therefore, it would be better if there were an option in the server profile to set this number.

If a dir contains many (thousands of) files, the deletion process is interrupted after around 1000 files.

I have tried to connect to my server on two different computers and this is the message I receive on both. I have spoken with my webmasters, and the server information is correct. How do I fix this with FileZilla? Below are the error messages I receive. Thank you.

The bookmarks are very useful, but I am not able to import and export them.

I noticed that under the Volumes tree on the local drive folder structure, that when I remove a drive and replace it, I then hit Refresh under the View menu to reload, that it does not show any external drives at all (even with others plugged in and seen by the OS), but when I re-hit the refresh menu item again it comes up correctly.

Hello, I love your idea of a global connection retry / login delay in the connection settings! Could you install an option for each individual ftp site so you can manually put in a non default retry delay incase it has to be set to the non default option.

I.E. global retry delay is 50 seconds. For ftp.sourceforge.net you can set it for 2 minutes via a 'non default' option withing the ftp.sourceforge.net.

we extensively make use of user descriptions. Very often we put a lot of information in it. It would be very nice to have word wrap in order to see all Information at a glance. An other solution to this could be a larger control size.

If you right-click on the queue of transfers, there is an option "stop and remove all". By doing that, as a result, the files that are currently being transferred will usually be broken at the destination (e.g. on the server if being uploaded).

So, this option is not always viable.

There should be (in addition) another option called something like "remove all files not being transferred", which would remove from the queue all files except those whose transfer has already transferred. So, you would have a way to stop a transfer without leaving broken files.

Currently there's no way to accomplish that, and this is pathetic.

Note that manually selecting and removing all non-transferring files is usually not possible because by the time you are done selecting all files, chances are that the first ones in the selection have already started being transferred.

Whatever the active button, no tooltip is visible.

FileZilla doesn't seem to recognise file types that are handled by Windows apps. The dialog "no program associated with filetype" pops up, even if FileZilla is setup to inherit windows filetype association.

For filetypes like pdf, wich have a 3rd party viewer installed FileZilla opens file without problem.

The settings page gives users the option of whether to check for updates, but not whether they want those updates automatically downloaded or where to save the file. The user should have the option to select either the download path or whether to download updates at all.

It's frustrating when the Downloads folder gets polluted with files from an assortment of programs with no sense of organization, and you have to go through and sort them out one by one just to be able to find anything. Having Downloads as the default path makes sense, but users should have some say in what gets put into that folder.

Hi,I'm encountering a problem that is after I upload a folder to my ftp server (by using filezilla) I found out that I couldn't access the folder after my first access to it (In and out and then can't get in again), it will say "no such file or directory" what is even strange,is that after I add a additional charter after the original file name and then upload again for example original file name is "abcde12(Z.1_123)" I changed it into "abcde12(Z.1_123)-1" I can access the folder normally , others using the same ftp server didn't counter this question.

Under menu item "Hilfe", there is an entry "Nach Updates suchen..." (German version); English version should be something like "search for updates". This task fails, as I'm sitting behind a proxy-server. I'm able to set proxies for my ftp connections, but I can't set a proxy for this update feature. This would be a nice feature to add to the FileZilla client. Thanks!

When transferring a file from the PC to web using ASCII transfer mode, line returns are correctly converted from 0D 0A to 0D. However, when transferring the other way -- web to PC -- a binary transfer occurs and the line returns are not converted and remain 0D even when the ASCII transfer mode is selected. These transfers are being made by dragging and dropping files (with <ctrl> to cause copying without source deletion) in the client from the right hand web window to a PC folder in the left window.

I downloaded the nightly FileZilla client called FileZilla_3_setup.exe. But it seems both the filename and windows installer does not give any information that this is a nightly build.

Only after installation does it say. So people might install it thinking its a stable version.

So maybe add "nightly" both to the filename and in the windows installer so people can know.

On May 25 I updated Filezilla to newest version. Since then using the same settings as always, Filezilla reports that certificates are unknown and cannot be verified. The notification screen allows no options. I deleted Filezilla and reloaded it from the Filezilla server with no resolution. I am providing information in the attached files, including the notifications for server, intermediate and root certificates, the Filezilla log and my recent Windows updates. I am unable to FTP and am unsure if this is the fault of Filezilla or not.

This is not an improvement. I'll reinstall the old version until this gets changed.

Create a new startup option:

"Do not install as a service, start server manually"

which will skip the:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

entry to provide manually starting.

I tried to upgrade my copy of Filezila and it kept coming back saying it could not copy files, i think. I did a shutdown and restart of my system and it locked up in the process. I have to physically turn off the system and reboot. Got the same error again. Went to the web site and downloaded the client, this time it came down as "FileZilla_3.49.0_win64_sponsored-setup.exe". Same problem. I had done an update last June, and that version would install. Just thought you should know.

I have tried the different options in the Interface prefs. However, still find it difficult to navigate using any one of them.

It would help if I could have just three panes: Remote, Local, and Status, and double-clicking a dir moves me up one level (in both local and remote panes), and history back and forward buttons at the top. The Status parked at the bottom with an arrow button to furl/unfurl on demand, and option to resize it.

I would think it's a lot of work, so don't expect to see it anytime soon but am hoping against hope it's already on the cards and my request will tip the balance.

There is Open option in context menu (Local files list), but one have to scroll down to an empty space to use it in order to open file location. Would be much easier to add new option in the context menu Open file location.

I'm updating Joomla manually with FileZilla and backup every overwriten file. The update is provided as zip-file with updated files.

It would be very useful if there were a function like "backup original to local folder and then overwrite it". (so just like I do: check the update-package for files and copy everyone to PC, then overwrite with package).

Transfer log export to any format would be useful for reports and to check if the files has been uploaded, when big amounts of files are uploaded to number of servers. Also comfortable for reporting to colleagues.

I did the latest update and now the system continues to disconnect before I can transfer my files over. I tried it so many times now I'm getting the error 421 Too many connections from this IP. I can find the other error messag.

I now have some broken forms that won't load because they were in the middle of transferring so I'm hoping to get a quick resolution.

I created a server definition for a subdomain prior to the latest release of FileZilla. It works perfectly.

I just created a new server definition of another subdomain after the latest release. The remote folder is not displaying.

If I use the SPECIAL FTP access AND specify the REMOTE folder, then I can see the remote folder, but only then.

Note: I have the same problem with any new definitions I create, whether subdomain or not.

If the network becomes unavailable while Filezilla is processing a queue, in most cases the following happens.

When you try in any way to resume the queue that has been interrupted, you get this nonsense error message: "Waiting for replies to skip before sending next command" (I mean a [nonsense error][message], not a [nonsense][error message]).

The client does nothing and just wait forever. It even sends "keep alive commands" from tiem to time but never resume the upload/download queue.

Unchecking and checking the "Process queue" checkbox doesn't fix the issue: the error appears again. Even disconnecting and reconnecting to the server doesn't help, which is the most nonsense thing.

The only way you can resume the queue is by exiting and restarting FileZilla. There should be a way to "completely reset" the connection and forget about everything as if you exited and reentered File Zilla - actually that should be done when you disconnect and reconnect to the server. Even without that, actually, the client should detect the timeout and do whatever is necessary to resume noral operation automatically.

I have a raspberry pi set up as a web server for development. I use Filezilla to FTP tested code to the “live” web server. As such, I have various “sites” configured in the Site Manager. The Raspberry Pi has a static IP address that I use to remotely access its file system.

When I add an address, like the following below, to the “Default local directory” field (in the Site Manager under the “Advanced” tab):

\\192.168.0.6\one_of_the_site_dirs

I get a listing of the files in that directory, just fine—BUT, in the pane that shows the directory tree, it still shows a listing from my PC's local hard drive (i.e. 'C:\') and NOT the directory tree from the PI.

This is also true if I use the host name I created for my PI (LITTLEGEEK, in this case), like so:

\\LITTLEGEEK\one_of_the_site_dirs

I can still use Filezilla to upload my Raspberry Pi hosted files to the external server hosting my websites, thus, this is not a show-stopper, but thought you would like to know, in case you care about full functionality ;)

I'm using filezilla 3.5.0 to connect to an ftp server which is also used as a ms windows remote drive, thus file encoding must be the one used by the windows "remote mount" dialog (where it cannot be configured).

Since the machine is used by German locale clients, the right encoding is "Cp850", and up- and downloading using this configuration works with files containing e.g. umlauts.

Filezilla however displays nerve-wrecking error pop-ups "cannot convert from the charset Cp850", which is simply wrong.

Immediately prior to commencing the download of a file, FileZilla needs to refresh its knowledge of the file specs from the server. This needs to be done individually and separately for each file.

Consider the following scenario:

0. Persons "A" and "B" are both logged into the same FTP server.
1. Person A begins uploading a 500mb file "XX" (with some indeterminate FTP client).
2. Person B (running FileZilla) gets a listing of the directory during the upload. At that time, 50mb of the file has been transferred.
3. The upload subsequently completes.
4. Person B starts downloading file XX, without doing a "refresh" of the directory listing.
5. FileZilla starts the download and indicates that it expects it is downloading a 50mb file. The progress bar (bar graph) goes up to 100% and then the label changes to ">100%". FileZilla can no longer estimate how much time remains in the download.

Since files may change at any time on an FTP server, FileZilla should re-obtain the file statistics (size, date, etc) immediately prior to each file's download, not only to ensure accuracy of the progress bar and the time estimations, but also for safety of the operation as well. (For example, ability to determine if there's enough space for the download.)

If this is found to significantly impact performance (it shouldn't), a user preference can be added to select the new behavior for safety, or the old behavior for performance.

When I export my ftp sites to xml file with the site manager,I need to export some of the sites to an xml file,but I can only export one site or export all sites.Is it possible to provide a multiselect function like that I could hold my CTRL key down and select some sites,and right click my mouse,export the selected sites to an xml file.

While I am trying to search the details to login on my desktop application regarding this, I find it difficult to get the details of HOST ID and PORT ID to access in the server application on my laptop. I am a first time user. Can you please send me the details of HOST and PORT ID for logging into that and suggest me how to proceed with this.

It was suggested that I take these suggestions which I wrote out in the public forums, and put them up individually in the Tracker. So, here I go - 9 feature requests, all individually posted.

#6 - Windows Explorer style nav buttons over panes, like "back" and "up one level". With that, the ability to hide the ".." in the file list would be nice.

Steps to reproduce:

• Remote Site
• Enter a sub-directory
• Go back with Backspace key

Result:

• Last directory is selected, but inactive (not blue)
• It's not possible to press Enter to go into that directory again
• It's not possible to press Space to "activate" the directory
• You have to use Cursor Up and Down to then be able to use Enter again

Possible solution:

• After going back, the directory where you came from should not only be selected, but also activated

Filezilla-Version: 3.14.0

For example, I opened this path "/home/user/web/site.com/public_html/assets/css". Now, if I want to go back to the "/home/user" directory I should level up several times (moreover sometimes, it happens with delays due to server response). To improve this, it would be great to have paths clickable and when I click on the "user" should open this directory.

Of course, to not break old behaviour, when I click on the end of the path or on the slash, it should highlight it as before and let me copy/paste/edit paths. As another option, it should open desired directory only on double-click.

To integrate FileZilla more nicely into the OS I recommend using native OS APIs for the progress bars in the queue. Additionally, an overall progress bar could be displayed in the new Windows 7 taskbar.

Allow crawling through compressed archives from within FileZilla, and then allow uploading of parts of the archive, as if the archive is an extension of the file system.

In windows you can connect to multiple servers at the same time by running multiple instances/windows of filezilla, it is not possible to do this on a Mac.

I open multiple instances of FileZilla SFTP, each with it own different colored panel. This is for directory handling: sometimes I need to upload files from a Javascript directory, sometimes from other directories.

I was wondering if you could implement this feature in Filezilla? Microsoft makes directory handling very difficult and cludgy.

BTW, I love the different colors one can associate with Filezilla instances, don't ever discontinue this.

When I download files with the same name but different cases (e.g. Readme.txt and readme.txt) from different remote directories to the same local directory you end up with two files in the local side of the client.

As you know in windows file names are not case sensitive so there should only be one file.

File Transfer Settings

In the option of multiple connections add a check box "for the same server".

Ex: when downloading from 2 diferent servers and a setting of 2 max connections per server i can download 4 files at same time. if the server it´s diferent filezilla will use the max number of connections again.

And make a diference between Uploads and Downloads.. ;) .

I routinely start 6-8 long parallel file transfers from my ONE host to my local PC. In general this works very well, including respecting any up/down speed limits that I set. However, there is one specific case where this breaks down.

The transfers seem to "set max their speed" when they are started, some are slow, some are fast. The first ones that start usually run very fast, the others usually end up going much slower.

The problem being that after the fast ones finish first, the slow ones do use the extra bandwidth and continue running as slowly as if there were other fast transfers still present.

This means the slower transfers take a VERY long time to finish even though there is plenty of unused bandwidth available. They never increase their speed up to the speed limit once the other transfers complete.

All of the active transfers should adjust up to use available bandwidth equally, and dynamically increase/decrease speed as transfers come/go.

Currently there is a way to specify a maximum number of connections to a specific server, however on common configurations the maximum can be very low (3-5) with a large number of these servers also imposing connection based bandwidth restrictions. In the event that the end user is downloading a large quantity of files with a range of sizes the download queue will tend to 'choke' if all of the current download slots are filled with large files.

The proposed functionality is to add the ability to specify a subset of the connection limit to be dedicated to small files. Additionally a configuration on what a 'small' file is should be provided.

Once implemented this functionality will subvert the aforementioned 'choking' by allowing smaller files to complete in parallel then merging the small file connection pool with the main pool, allowing for larger files to use the connections.

I use FileZilla on a day to day basis for my server administration needs. I prefer this software but on occasion I have to use other clients, such as lftp, to download some very files (normally backups) using multiple connections.

In particular I have a server where I'm not able to download faster than 150 KB/sec. In order to retrieve large files from this server I end up either a) ftp'ing it to another server first where our ISP has better peering or b) I use lftp and pget.

Hi, we have installed FileZilla in our citrix environment and need a minimum of 100 users to have access to SFTP files from a secured network to another location on t he same SAM (unsecure) we are using ZFTP as the server. At the moment only one user can use the FileZilla client as when another one tries to use the FileZilla client and error advises that the application is in use. Is there a setting or a way multiple users can concurrentky use this client ?

• Connect to an ftp or sftp server by using FileZilla 3.30.0
• Enter a remote directory that has more than 5 files in it
• Select at least 6 files and move those into parent directory by using your mouse and dragging and dropping them into "..."
• Once all's moved, click on "..." to enter parent directory
• You'll see every file that's inside that parent directory was selected just like when we press Cmd-A keys

Similar thing occurs, say, you have one folder and 6 files inside a directory. If you were to move all those files into that one folder and then enter that folder, you'll see all files except the first one in that directory got selected.

It doesn't occur if you select and move less than 6 files

When using drag-and-drop to move files and folders inside filezilla (drag-and-drop being the only method i have found in FZ so far) i experience problems when there is a long list of files as i cannot seem to scroll up the list when dragging files, and hence cannot get the files to go into the directory i want. Also, sometimes you want to move files/folder into heavily nested folders and the drag and drop method is inefficient. It would be good to have the directory be editable in a properties window for selected files and folders, that way you can just type a new directory and they will be moved there.

Local files deleted with Filezilla do not go to recycle bin, are permenantly deleted.

When you type a path in the local site path that is incorrect a message is displayed that indicates it failed to change directory. This is fine and good. What is not is that after you click OK or hit 'enter' your cursor is moved from the end of the Local site path box to the beginning. This is annoying because it requires that you hit right arrow or click to the end of the box to re-enter the new path in the box. If it removed the incorrect path and left the cursor at the end of the box it would be perfect.

In quickconnect button menu: "clear history" and "clear quickconnect bar" entries are sometimes pressed by mistake and you lose all history or quick connect entries. A more proper place for these entries should be in EDIT menu. Please move them to EDIT menu and let QUICKCONNECT show only server entries for connection option.

would be nice if there was some option to "move" (like download and delete from source) file instead of default copy...

Hello, im sugesting a new button on filezilla. Filezilla have a download button for the files/folders, but, why dont have a move button on the same place? for FTPs that we have full access, i think this would be a great function.

Why is the function "file name filters" in the menu "View", but "force showing hidden files" is in the menu "Server"? The commands do very similar things - if you look at it from the users point of view. Ordinary users do not care if the second function is processed on the server and the first on the client.

I think both items should be in the "View" menu side by side for usability reasons.

Under Windows there are two competing behaviours for the wheel -- scroll the focused control, and scroll the control under the cursor.

Microsoft's official stance is now the latter, in line with OS X and Linux: ​http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb545459.aspx#wheel although this is probably only effective starting with Vista.

Outlook 2003 also follows this behaviour, where Microsoft evidently realised its necessity in a multi-pane view!

This behaviour is becoming increasingly common in Windows, especially when you use it for open source, and supporting apps include FlashFXP, Firefox, Thunderbird, Outlook, Internet Explorer 8 (with framesets; don't have IE 7 to hand). FileZilla really feels like the odd one out here now!

I've tried using Tordex Wheel which introduces this behaviour systemwide but even on a P4 2.8 it has significant issues especially with Firefox, and I'd much rather that FileZilla simply work as it's supposed to instead of screwing with the OS and causing problems :-) (If Tordex Wheel actually worked properly then, sure, but the level of interference involved makes it inherently flawed. It won't even work properly at all unless you raise its CPU priority.)

Any chance of this being implemented now?

When I hover with the mouse over the folder structure or file overview in either local or remote site window and I scroll the mousewheel, it would be great if it the area over which I hover would scroll. So WITHOUT me first having to click an item in the window or the scrollbar of that window in which I'd like to scroll. This would save me a lot of clicks! :)

When trying to do multi-select by clicking on an empty spot in the file list, rather than bringing up the drag lines, the pointer flies to the top-right corner of the screen and scrolls the file list to the top. This occurs in both the local and remote file lists.

This is only on empty space where a file would not be selected. If a file is selected on click this issue does not occur. It also only occurs if the file list has more files than will fit without scrolling, and if it has been scrolled down.

When window is in focus, moving mouse across client causes cursor to lag and not move smoothly. This has resulted in misclicks.

For example filezilla.xml uses entries like this one:

This is not really structured for a xml file and makes it difficult to understand for a human or an application. In my opinion this entry (and others in a similar way) could be split like this:

Users with spaces in filenames can quote the path or use a delimiter for the extension list.

In my ticket #11172, I asked the reason «why the total directory size does not count the size of the directories included» and I was told «because the total directory size does not count the size of the directories included», before closing the ticket. I find that the reason was not provided and as I like to understand things, I allow myself to insist!

The new compression option is nice; however, there could be a minor logic improvement.

compression of binaries is likely to not be fruitful because many are precompressed; however, more than just directories can benefit from compression.

I respectfully request that another radio button be added to allow dir and ascii transmissions, omitting binary transmissions.

I believe this would provide the best overall performance and hopefully very little actual code change.

Hi, first of all love the software! i've been using it for years now.

There is one thing that is bothering me allot!!! Enough so for lazy me to acctually make a ticket about it.

The situation: I have allot of sites over 50 in the sitemanager.

When i open the sitemanager and i want to go through the list i type in the first letter lets say "M". It jumps to the first item that begins with "M" awesome!

Lets say there are 2 items with "M" and i need the second one.

So i press the down arrow to go from the first item to the second item.

The second item is the actual one which i want to open, but now comes the problem :(

The first item has a SFTP setting and needs a keyfile from an secure/ecrypted usb stick and the settings are fine but the USB stick is not available at the moment.

Now in order to go to the second item i have to fill in fake settings for the first item just so i can use or select the second item and avoid the error message that says "cannot find the keyfile".

So now i have allot of settings in my sitemanager that won't work just so i can use the sitemanager?!

Question: Can this be changed or fixed or be less obstructive in nature?

Idea: Maybe a extra checkbox that says "external keyfile" so you can avoid the errormessage and aslong as the file does not exist it's just not possible to connect this way you can still use the sitemanager.

Why not save localy: We need the USB stick for security reasons and cannot store it localy or point to a always existing location this goes against are security policy.

It was kinda hard to explain but i hope it makes sense i would love to see a change/patch for this.

FileZilla client 3.7.3

On 'Selected file already being edited' dialog OK and Cancel buttons are pushed to the right when file name is long (see attachment)

During long file transfers, the unused browsing connection gets closed, producing an error message in red in the Message log Window:

Error: Connection closed by server

Since the message is displayed in red and listed as "Error", this is very troubling for users who are not familiar with FTP.

This produces bug reports which are then rejected (eg #4130), messages in the forums, and phone calls from worried clueless users.

It would be nice if this message could be

• not displayed in red
• not marked as "Error"
• maybe reworded to make it clear that it's only the browsing connection and that the transfer connection continues normally

What would be a cool addition to a super-cool program, would be the ability to designate a connection as a mirror to another connection. so that whatever you do to one connection (Send / Rename / Delete), it will also do to its mirror connection.

Using the latest stable release for Mac OS X. FZ is using Command + M to both minimize the app to the dock (This may be a global shortcut on OSX.) and to bring up the manual transfer window.

I'm required to do a lot of manual transfers from a blind ftp site, for some reason I can only use FileZilla, terminal doesn't even work. Definitely not critical, but slight annoyance

I am uploading files with double click. Double click action for directories is "Enter directory" (which is natural), so if I want to upload directory, I must right click on it and choose Upload (or drag-drop it). It will be handy to be able to middle click on it, to upload it.

.metalink files are simple XML text files that list the multiple locations (Mirrors/P2P) for files, along with checksums & other useful info. There will usually be more than 1 FTP & HTTP source, so a program can get a segment of each file from different sources at the same time. If the download manager doesn't support all or any of the P2P networks listed, then it just uses the mirrors.

This can be really nice for downloading large files like ISOs.

I would like an option to place the message log window at the bottom of the filezilla window.

I love the new feature of putting the message log as a tab along with the transfer tabs, however I think the message log tab should be selected by default when there are no active or queued transfers. At the least, I think it should be able to be active when you open the program. Perhaps if you could re-arrange the tabs, you could accomplish the message log being first when you start up.

It appears that the message log at the top has now changed to a dark grey background, with messages showing up with a white background. No functionality issue, purely aesthetic.

Not sure if this was an issue with this specific release of the Mojave beta, but 3.37.0 did not seem to exhibit this issue on the same Mojave release prior to updating.

I'm working in health care services, and so I'm often dealing with database system with sensitive data. It's a common practice to log everything we do, like telnet session, ftp session, even recording PcAnywhere session (I know : why PcAnywhere ? The choice was beyond my say so...)

Here's some ideas for the Message Log saved to a file :

• remove keep alive system commands from the message log;
• automatically name the file with the remote host IP

address, current date and time (similar to PuTTY);

• ... any other ideas anyone ?

#5 - In the interest of saving real estate, it would be nice to have the message log appear under the remote pane only, so that the vertical space above the local side can be greater. Maybe even make the message log so that you can show and hide by clicking on a tab in or around the remote pane.

In FZ v3.7.3 (and the last few prior versions), I've noticed that after I've uploaded files via drag-and-drop, the shortcut keys don't work for the menus (Alt+F for File menu, etc.). I must use the mouse to access them---and you know how we keyboard geeks dislike that. :?)

When using FileZilla Client, if I select a menu item, the item panel from the menu remains on the screen after the item is activated. In fact, it remains after the program is closed. I have to log off the computer to get rid of it. The problem appeared in the prior release of FZ Client. I hoped it would go away, but I have updated this morning and the problem remains. I have attached a screenshot where my Dreamweaver dialog box is being obscured by the left over "Manage Sites..." menu selection, even after the client has been closed.

When uploading using the "overwrite if newer" option it is hard to tell when a file is skipped. If there was a mention of the skipping in either the console or queue or both it would be great.

I frequently find myself transferring very large data sets across wide-open network pipes... and unable to fully utilize any component in the the path, including client, server or network. With 1G networks considered standard, and 10G becoming common, these systems have far more capacity than FileZilla - and virtually every other FTP client that I've found - can handle. The issue is two-fold.

1. Concurrent Transfers
2. Segmented Transfers

About 3 years ago someone opened a ticket (#2762) asking for segmented transfers and the response was that it wasted too much bandwidth. True. There is a fairly high overhead. However, when neither the client, server nor network is even breaking a sweat... why do we care if we waste more bandwidth but get better performance? I believe that capacity has outstripped the natural (and reasonable) limitations of the software.

Regarding feature 1, please consider either completely removing the concurrency restriction or making it significantly larger. I suspect that 100 is now a very reasonable MINIMUM number for a hard-coded threshold, but will rely on the opinions of folks much more knowledgeable than I am about the intricate working of FTP.

Regarding feature 2, the ability to break up large files into multiple segments could make a significant improvement on the overall performance of FTP. Even when FileZilla is configured to transfer up to 10 files at one time, if I am transferring a single 10GB file... I only get one thread. Breaking this up into 10 (or 20... or more) segments would indeed make a difference.

I would, however, also suggest a need to balance these two potentially competing features. Due to the overhead, smaller files would be slowed down by a segmented approach. A low end cap that forces files smaller than X to be single threaded could help. This too should be user-adjustable. Even better might be a multi-level approach. Thus, files smaller than (for example) 10MB could be set to "always single-segment", files between 10 and 100MB could be set to "max 2 segments", files between 100MB and 500MB could be set to "max 5 segments", and files larger than 500MB could be set to "use as many segments as available."

Between these two features, the Concurrency cap should be the sum of segments rather than files. Following this logic, if concurrency was set to 100, then 100 small files - at 1 segment each - would all be transferred simultaneously, or a single 10GB file could be broken into 100 segments... but not both.

I believe that these three changes, particularly implemented together, would be a huge win for FileZilla.

In Concurrent Transfers default was 4 but Filezilla was trying to send more than 8 simultaneous transfers causing Server to do dozens of 5 second timeouts since it has a limit of 8 concurrent transfers allowed. Verified this was the problem in cPanel, which showed 8 current transfers, with warnings. This occurred when I was uploading about 2200 files. Left about 120 as "failed".

Basically, even though setting was 4 concurrent transfers, program was sending 8 and trying to do more, stalling out my server.

After complete, I changed the settings to 3 simultaneous transfers, put the failed files back into live queue and resent OK.

Conclusion: the amount of files in upload queue caused something to override default simultaneous setting.
