#8957 Performance improvement possibility new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I regularly upload 5000 plus files - there is a mix of small ones (under 100k) and large ones (over 50M)and several files that have not changed at all - so use overwrite only if changed

You operate two parallel ftp channels. These tend to be response time limit when dealing with short files and bandwidth limited when transferring large files.

By selecting one channel only to do the biggest files first and the other to do smallest files first, you will get better use of bandwidth

Also note with a 60M line running more channels goes faster (test done by running two Filezilla instances concurrently)

#8958 Help Avoid user directory errors new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have a large number of websites with the same or very similar directory structures. There is a risk I make errors and upload from the wrong directory.

On the local site pane, could you consider placing a user controlled optional padlock against a directory such that you cannot, when padlocked, navigate outside that directory and its children. Then have that directory included in the remembered profile for a particular ftp address.

Now when you open an ftp address you will have the relevant local file area showing.

#8991 Visible file name in the queue when path is long new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

In current situation if file being transfer has a very long path, then user can not see the file name only the path with ... at the end.

A better way would be to have file name visible all the time. Some e.g. Current: /dir/another/dir/and/long/path... Desirable: /dir/another/dir/a...filename.ext

Current: /dir/veryveryveryverylongfilen... Desirable: ...veryveryverylongfilename.ex... (although this is not complete file name, but more informative then before.

Other approach is to give option to user how they want to see, the existing way or the new way.

#8992 Better & More Log Files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Need an option for more log files.

Having 1 complete long running log file is great for debugging, but what about people who need to process those things, or even just try to figure them out.

I propose at the Program Preferences level, X options,

  1. Keep what it currently uses, 1 big file limited by MB.
  2. Create a Log file for each Site (FZ-Client_Log_[SITENAME]_[DATETIME].log)
  3. Both 1 & 2.
  4. Keep NO LOG FILE! (Warning, no log file = no chance in getting quality support from filezilla-project.org.

Then at the Site Level Preferences, At this level, give users some options, what to log, log name format.

This all stems from trying to sort through a massive log file, that includes data from dozens of sites. It's nuts. I know I'm having a problem with 1 site, I just want to see that 1 sites log.

Or is there a Log File Anal-yzer that can handle this?

Thanks for your time.

#9016 feature request - auto connect new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

If there is only one host, it would be nice if FileZilla automatically connected when it was launched, instead of having to do so manually. This could be an enable/disable feature, also with a "default" host if there's more than one. - Thanks!

#9036 When prompting to delete one file - show this filename new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When deleting only one file (maybe few more) maybe it is better to show which files about to delete? At now filezilla only shows Yes or No prompt.

#9037 Gnome-software appdata file for filezilla new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

I've written up an appdata file for filezilla so it can be part of gnome-software in a more complete manner. Please find it attached. I'm going to update the Fedora package to include this file sometime this week so that it's picked up by gnome-software for Fedora 20.

It'll be great if this file can be included in future releases, and optionally, if the build system could install it to /usr/share/appdata. The installation isn't necessary, since us maintainers can do it manually too.

Please feel free to edit the file to improve the descriptions, add more screenshots etc. The screenshots must be 16:9 in aspect ratio though. Here's a post explaining how to make such screenshots: http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2013/10/08/how-to-take-169-screenshots/

More information on appdata files: http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/appdata/

#9055 Export results from [Remote file search] dialog new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I know this has been asked for in the past - there is a reason that the DEBUG file does not provide the desired output... The DEBUG file is the step by step FTP commands that execute during a session. The [Results] frame in the [Remote file search] dialog includes the full path associated with the (filename) result in the same line - in DEBUG file the directory listing COMMAND is a completely different line in the output. My request is to add a button or right-click option to [export to csv] like function. I will add files with details...

#9059 Recent Connections new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

In Windows 7 (and maybe Vista) they introduced the recently used popup on applications. For example, if you go to Microsoft Word on the start menu, there is a little arrow to the right of it that will popup recently opened or pinned documents.

It would be nice if Filezilla would use this for recently connected to sites.

#9073 Context menu in Edited Dialog (Ctrl+E) new хз Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#9080 transfer priority option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

it is possible in the transfert options to add the ability to choose the priority of transfer based on the size of the file by setting the maximum size that the file I need to be transferred first

#9094 Copy file new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

More often than not, I'm right-clicking on a local file in the left panel, in order to copy-paste it onto an Explorer window. The use case :

  1. local files often needs to be re-organized and we only realize it when handling them when working with FTP.
  2. in my connections many remote folders are paired with a "Default local directory", but distant files sometimes needs to head to a second local directory elsewhere, and browsing forth and back inside Filezilla is sometimes not desirable.

I'm really intuitively expecting to have this function somewhere and am often frustrated to get remembered it still doesn't exist.

Would it be possible to plan this feature in a next release ?

Besides, thanks a lot for this good software. Regards

#9103 Right-click file in queue -> Interrupt, file interrupted and queue rescanned for higher priority files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be immensely helpful if I could right-click on an active transfer and click "Interrupt". That specific file would stop, (like all files do if you right-click the queue and untick Process Queue), and the highest priority file in the queue would be started.

I have a queue downloading and the maximum number of transfers are already transferring. I add a file to the queue and set it to priority 'Highest'. The only way to get the new file downloading is to stop the whole queue processing, then restart it. I have this issue many times every time I do a big upload and restarting the queue causes all sorts of problems (eg, errors "ftpcontrolsocket.cpp(1871): Waiting for replies to skip") and overheads.

#9125 Make "No" the default for file deletion confirmation new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla just deleted 340GB from my disk because I accidently hit DEL, ENTER instead of just ENTER. Thats why I wish that "No" had been the default answer.

#9139 Why is the delay between failed login attempts limited to only 999 seconds? new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi there,

I am using FileZilla 3.7.3 and it has almost all the possible settings I'm needing, except one. I was wondering why is the delay between failed login attempts limited to 999 seconds.

When I am away from home I connect to the internet through a hotspot but the hotspot automatically disconnects me after 2 hours. I have a software that auto reconnects me every 2 hours but when I use FileZilla to send large files to my FTP site, it can last more than 2 hours, then when I get disconnected FileZilla tries to reconnect, connection succeeds as soon as my connection to the internet is up again and then FileZilla tries to resume the current upload transfer. The problem is that my FTP server (which is a Pure FTPD) works on a temporary file to store the data I'm sending to it, and Pure FTPD sometimes needs up to 20 minutes (1200 seconds) to detect that the upload has been broken and then rename the temporary file into my target file. Then if FileZilla reconnects to the server just after 999 seconds it happens that the target file is still in a temporary state, it has not been renamed into the target file yet and if the target file does not exist FileZilla will then restart the upload from zero rather than resume the transfer.

If I was able to set the delay between failed login attempts to more than only 999 seconds it would solve my problem, and therefore I was wondering if it was possible to increase this delay limitation in future versions or if there was a reason why this delay could not be more than 999 seconds.

Thank you.

#9207 Ability to submit multiple raw commands new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have a series of permission-setting commands that I need to execute multiple times, each time against a different folder containing content for my website. Entering a single raw command is helpful, but I would also like to be able to submit multiple raw commands, either via copy-and-paste or by providing a text file containing the commands.

#9220 Copy and paste a file or directory new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Is it possible to copy and paste file or directory using FileZilla client?

Now i need to make a new file in desktop. Copy the content using Edit/View option of FileZilla and paste it in new file. Then i upload it.

#9222 Password Manager - Password Drag and Drop new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, I am using Password Safe for storing my FTP passwords.

It offers a function to Drag and Drop Passwords to Login Fields. But it is not possible to Drag an Drop to the Filezilla Password Field.

Would be cool if you guys could change this in future version.

Thanks!

#9261 When establish connection in new tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello, when anyone make connect in new tab for other ftp, Local file directories should reset and should show us local drives.

For example: I open FTP for website A, now choosing local drives from left... After that I open ftp for website B, now left side, it showing local directories of website A, but if you can show root drives like C,D,E,F then developers can save them by upload files of A in B mistakenly. Hope you can understand and implement this feature.

#9307 Button Bar Customization new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be really neat if there were a way to customize the button bar, by being able to remove unwanted items and add needed ones. One I miss would be a "Refresh" button, as just one example.

Thank you for the fine program, and keep up the good work.

#9324 transfer rate new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Great program, thanks very much.

One feature that would be useful to me in the MESSAGE LOG (where you show the file size of each transfer and the transfer time in seconds) would be to include the transfer rate in kilobytes per second. It helps me gauge how 'fast' the session was when I download multiple files as I am often out of the office using a variety of connections, some fast, some slow.

Thanks. Dave

#9367 bulk upload new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, can you add functionality to upload files on multiple sites preselected from the list.

#9395 searching long directory listings new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be cool if there were a search box, where you could enter the first few characters of a file name, and FileZilla would scroll the directory listing to the point where those characters would be if they were in the sorted listing.

For synchronized viewing, that should happen to both directory listings; I would suggest doing it for non-synchronized viewing also, although that point is somewhat debatable. But while the directory _structures_ may not be the same, the content may well be similar, in some circumstances. An alternative for non-synchronized viewing might be to have one search box but two buttons, to search local, or search remote.

#9404 download speed limited by directory traversal speed new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

When backing up my websites (Joomla), I notice that I have a lot more speed available to download but it takes the content of directories to slowly. Meaning if you have many directories with only 2 to 3 files but have 7 simulta. transfers going way to long to create the Queue for files to download. I am using V3.8 on Godaddy hosting. The queue is most of the time empty. It should fill the queue for downloading much faster.

#9411 Mousewheel scroll should scroll window when hovering over it new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When I hover with the mouse over the folder structure or file overview in either local or remote site window and I scroll the mousewheel, it would be great if it the area over which I hover would scroll. So WITHOUT me first having to click an item in the window or the scrollbar of that window in which I'd like to scroll. This would save me a lot of clicks! :)

And keep up the good work of this awesome program!

#9457 Make Dialogue Boxes Copy-able new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I've noticed that dialogue boxes in FileZilla behaves non-standardly on Windows. Standard Windows dialogue boxes can be copied in plaintext by pressing ctrl+c with the box in focus. Doing this on a FileZilla dialogue does not copy the text.

Specifically, I attempted to do this on the verify SSH fingerprint dialogue. It looks like this https://i.imgur.com/PnQ2EnL.jpg (Just a Googled image - to illustrate the component I'm referring to).

Expected behaviour is that I can then paste the plaintext content of the dialogue into notepad, after which I can compare the fingerprint with one that I've been provided with before hand.

Actual behaviour is that it does not copy, meaning I have to manually read the fingerprint and compare it manually - leaves room for error.

The request is that dialogue boxes should behave standardly so that their contents may be copied.

Alternatively, the SSH fingerprint should be displayed in a non-editable text-box that can be copied in order to facilitate fingerprint verification.

My system: Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64, FZ 3.8.0

#9511 Open URL: change Quickconnect label "Host:" to "Host/URL:", make "Remote site:" accept URL, add "File -> Open URL" cmd new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

[Cheers guys! In case this may look like a feature request: it's actually not. It's about a usability issue of an *existing* feature, so not requesting any new functionality, even though a) the fix is purely usability-related, b) it's just a nuisance, c) it may imply adding new code. (To start in the DMZ, I just create this as "Other"... :) Thanks!]

Sequence of actions (I'm nobody special, so there may be others stumbling this way):

  1. mc's ftpfs stuck again for timeout, uninterruptible. Sigh, time to divorce...
  1. apt-get install filezilla [3.8.0]
  1. Launch filezilla. [May have never used it before, or too long ago to remember; the point being: "entry-level" UI interaction.]
  1. Copy my relevant mc entry (a fully formed FTP URL, from the "hotlist" file) to Clipboard.
  1. Swith to FileZilla, find a place to paste the Clipboard cargo... Quickconnect seems tempting, but no URL field apparently there (only the well-known, familiar, classic H/U/P/... inputs). [Hmm.]
  1. There's a "Local site:", and "Remote site:" bar, below, though. "Remote site:" reads *exactly* what I'd need to paste my URL to, but it's unfortunately disabled. (And then it also appears (from subliminal clues of the overall GUI design) that it may not be meant for that anyway.) [Hmmmm...]
  1. Open the "File" menu: no "Open..." or "Open URL" [Hmmm?!]
  1. Well, then maybe "Site Manager"... [But I don't want to manage a site.] No, that seems to be designed to support URLs even less.
  1. Perhaps FileZilla doesn't even support URLs?! No, that can't possibly be true, let me double-check... Google: "filezilla url". From the results (e.g. FR #8466), I can see that support is there. [Relief #1.]
  1. Back to the FileZilla UI. So there *must* be a place to dump that itching URL. And it's hinted to be related to Quickconnect (by fragments in the Google search result summary lines), as one would anyway initially think. Perhaps the "host" field then (short of any better)? Let's try at least... Paste, then "Quickconnect"... Wow, bingo! [Relief #2.]

NOTE: I did see the nice, detailed explanation in the tooltip - but *only after* going through through all the above. Experienced users tend not to stand still hovering enough over a field for a (slowish) tooltip to appear. My type of users don't even use the mouse that much (so, little chance for a tooltip at all).

Fixes recommended:

a) Just change the "Host" label to "Host or URL" (or "Host/URL" if you also consider it an "internationally familiar" way of putting it).

Quick, easy, cheap. With the "Host/URL" form some very inexperienced users may get confused though. But these type of users will likely hit the tooltip. Or just put the less cool but more clear "Host or URL".

b) Change the "Local site:" / "Remote site:" controls. (Their *values* are not "sites" currently anyway, but *dir paths*.)

Either:

  1. Implement (a) and rename them to "Local path:" / "Remote path:" (or "...dir") accordingly, to remove confusion.

Or:

  1. Ignore (a) and
    • change the label "Local site:" to "Local path:" (keeping in mind that it's actually a relative local *URL*!), and
    • change the behavior of "Remote site:" to as of the "Host" field of Quickconnect, i.e. to accept URLs, plus (re)connect on non-relative URLs. (Also keep it enabled, not only when connected.) This (2) would be a good, intuitive solution (a step closer to the universal two-panel file manager scheme), but may probably also trigger rethinking the Quickconnect UI concept, screen layout etc., so it's not "free".

c) Add an "Open URL" command to the File menu, to do exactly the same as Quickconnect with an URL supplied in the "Host" field.

(With just a *simple* one-field popup, even if that may not feel like a perfect fit with the current "one-omnipotent-window" design. This slight redundancy may still be better than the immediate impression of a missing feature, or a missing natural path to an existing (and possibly very common) feature.)

[Thanks a lot for your patience, and all the best to you there, thanks again! Where can I send the bill of $100 for the analysis please? ;) ]

#9546 least-recently-used entry (instead of oldest entry) should be removed from quickconnect recent servers list when entry limit is reached new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

it would be helpful if, upon selecting from the quickconnect dropdown list of recent servers, the selected server were moved back to the top of the list. this would ensure that a server which the user is still actively using remains on the list, and only the server which has not been used the longest gets removed when a new server is added.

#9568 File exists action: Option to rename existing file, if duplicate uploaded new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi there at Filezilla,

it would be nice to have an option to rename the existing file rather then the one being uploaded in the "File exists action" preferences.

Use case: I upload a modified .php file, but would like to keep the old version of that file for reference/backup.

At the moment to do this I have to rename the existing file by hand, which is rather tedious. Maybe the overwritten file could be named existing file name + the time and date when it was overwritten. Otherwise I guess just .backup or whatever will do. Thanks, Sascha

#9570 Apply to current queue - apply to current operation new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When downloading a complex website with lots of files and directories if overwriting a copy on your local machine.

Ticking "apply to current queue only" to overwrite only applies to the current files listed in the queue ignoring all the files that haven't yet been queued within the same operation.

Please add a way to apply this action to the whole operation (i.e. the whole download operation) therefore it can be left to download the site in the background.

#9574 Add bookmarks to site manager quick selection drop down new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I love the feature to add bookmarks for a site so I can go to different folders for the same server and only have to update my password in one place, but I cannot quick select the bookmark like I can for sites. I either have to open the site manager dialog, or connect to the site, then go to a bookmark from that menu option.

#9583 Make an app bundle also when GTK is used on Mac new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Users of MacPorts asked for a bundled app of FileZilla (FileZilla.app) in addition to command-line binaries also when wxGTK is used.

There is currently

  # Create application bundle on OS X
if echo $WX_CPPFLAGS | grep __WXMAC__; then
    macappbundle="yes"
  else
    macappbundle="no"
  fi

but this doesn't build the bundle when wxGTK is used.

I'm aware that this is a slightly weird request (most users would probably use Cocoa anyway), but in case that it is easy enough for you to add an option to the building scripts to make a bundle also when GTK is used, we would be grateful.

I can help with testing. (It would probably make most sense if making an app would be a configure-time option or a make target – even better as that wouldn't require reconfiguring everything.)

Otherwise assembling the bundle manually takes a bit of effort.

#9840 Sync After Overwrite new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When transferring a file that already exists onto the server, in the "target file already exists" dialog. It would be very convenient to have an additional action called "Overwrite and Sync" which would monitor the local file that was uploaded and whenever it's modified it will be automatically transferred back to the server. I know there are existing sync features but this would just be a per-session sort of tracking/syncing.

#9866 File Edit History new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be great if Filezilla maintained a list of past files edited and allowed for reselecting them for editing from the "Show files currently being edited..." window.

#9867 File "Working Sets" new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be wonderful if users could define "Working Sets" of files that could be loaded at once for editing or uploaded at once.

#9881 Exporting failed transfers to csv new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

It would be helpful if there was a way to export failed transfers to a csv file.

Then at a future time those files could be resent. Either via filezilla or by another method, such as cpanel's file upload system.

This is because for various reasons permissions can be denied, and it would be useful to have a list of files which must be uploaded via another method.

Thanks

#9882 Option to contol the reconnect feature new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

If a connection to a server is made it is always possible to reconnect with the menu bar -> Server -> Reconnect as filezilla.xml stores informations about the last used server. I would like it if this behavior could be controlled a little more for example with a new option called "Store last server". The values could be:

0 - Disables the reconnection feature and storing of any informations about the last used server in filezilla.xml. 1 - The reconnection feature is available and the informations of the last used server are only stored in memory to make them only available until FileZilla is closed. 2 - The reconnetion feature is available and the informations about the last used server are stored in filezilla.xml to make them even available if FileZilla is closed and restarted (which is the current behavior).

#9895 Activate site tab if dragged over new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#9896 Create non-existent local folders when synchronized browsing new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When using synchronized browsing, if you navigate to a folder on the remote server that doesn't exist locally, the folder would be created locally (probably automatically). Or a prompt could appear asking the user if they would like the folder to be created.

Currently, when you navigate to a remote folder that doesn't exist locally (with synchronized browsing enabled), you get a warning:

FOLDER PATH does not exist or cannot be accessed. Disable synchronized browsing and continue changing the remote directory?

I think it would be much more intuitive for the local folder to be created automatically if it doesn't exist, or at least prompt the user to choose whether or not they would like it to be created.

If a prompt is the best way to go, I would recommend a setting be created to 'always create missing local folders', as it would get annoying to always have to click 'create folder'.

#9918 Allow resizeable window in 'Check for updates' dialog new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be nice if I could resize the "Check for updates" dialog/window so I could read the release notes ("What's new") with less scrolling.

#9960 When renaming/moving remotely, ask for confirmation if target already exists new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

When moving a file up a level by drag and dropping it over the '...' (at the top of the folder) the file will be copied to the parent folder. If a file already exists then it will be overwritten without confirmation. This has made me loose progress on my index.php accidentally several times and I know it will happen again. It is easy to accidentally drag and drop a file (you will be surprised!) so it should ask 'file xyz already exists, would you like to overwrite?' This is critical because this behavior should NOT happen and WILL cause others hours of (re-)work like it did for me.

#9990 Store default "Action after queue completion" new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I always change the "Action after queue completion" when working with FileZilla, so I would like to be able to store my preferred default in the Settings. I believe this would sit in the "Interface" part, although it could go under "Transfers" or somewhere new. Happy to help further with this request but it needs agreement first.

#10154 Command line option: select encryption new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#10173 Copy quick connection parameters to fields new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

#10198 Styling/Color Coding of Files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be very helpful if the following features were available in FileZilla Client:

  1. Being able to apply a style to edited files to visually indicated their edited state. For example, I would like to make those files show up with bold text. Ideally, this would apply to the corresponding remote files in the remote pane, also.
  1. Being able to apply custom, user-specified styles (text/background color, bold/italic, etc.) to files by their file extension, or even better, using a filename pattern. (e.g., system*.log). Thus the file entries would show up in the local and remote panels with those styles.
  1. Being able to specify a default style for files in the local and remote panels.

These would allow users to more quickly spot relevant files in a long list of files.

#10255 Feature Request: Update ON EXIT new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Can you please modify the update dialog box to install the update AFTER exiting the program?

As currently implemented, the program checks for updates and downloads a new version, then prompts you to install it NOW. The only other option is to close the dialog, after which it is easy to forget or lose track of the downloaded location. It won't give you the option to put the dialog in the background and continue to use FZ, and then come back to it later.

It is irritating to expect to use FZ for a task only to be forced to deal with the update before use. Giving the option to install the update after exiting the program allows us to do the job we intended to do and still perform the update. Thanks!

#10256 No word wrap in user description new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Hi -

we extensively make use of user descriptions. Very often we put a lot of information in it. It would be very nice to have word wrap in order to see all Information at a glance. An other solution to this could be a larger control size.

Thank you in advance.

#10260 Allow Save/Edit the local and remote site drop down contents new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be nice to have an option to save and pre-populate the local and remote site drop down contents on a site by site basis as very often we are visiting the same sites over and over again. If this is an option, then it might be nice to allow removing folders from that list.

#10276 Default Action after Queue completion new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Is it possible to have one default action after completing the queue? Refer to snapshot attached for clarity.

#10277 Use Connection NAME or IP in temporary name for edit files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Right now, FileZilla uses fz3temp-1, fz3temp-2 based on Tabs open.

But if we are editing same files in differente server, we could easily mess things.

Like c:\temp\fz3temp-1\htaccess and c:\temp\fz3temp-2\htaccess

If we could use IP or Connection name in its temporary directory, we could get the context quickly without having to worry about misleading.

If possible, use something like this to help us when editing files. Like c:\temp\fz3temp-PRODUCTION_SERVER\htaccess and c:\temp\fz3temp-BETA_SERVER\htaccess

OR

Like c:\temp\fz3temp-10_1_0_18\htaccess and c:\temp\fz3temp-192_168_0_103\htaccess

it would be a huge difference for us

Thanks

#10297 Extra download slot for View/Edit new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Many times when I want to edit a remote file, all the download slots are already in use and the file cannot be edited before one of the downloads is complete. This means no new edits while transferring the backups.

Could we have an option for an extra transfer slot for Viewing/Editing? For example a checkbox at Settings > Transfers page > Concurrent transfers.

#10301 Make "force EPSV over IPv4" available as an option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi everybody,

first i would like to thank the devs for this great product. I am using it for all of my FTP connections and it worked like a charm.

Now i am trying to setup my own FTP server with the latest available Filezilla FTP Server and i am currently facing an issue that my Filezilla client ( latest version ) is for whatever reason not falling back to try EPSV connection ( because PASV is not working).

My ISP provided me a IPv6 connection to the Internet with a static IPv6 adress. I already discovered that a IPv6 connection to my server is working like a charm, but not through IPv4. Because of this i bought a IPv4 ( not that expensive as i thought ) adress and do portmapping from my IPv4 adress to my IPv6 adress.

I tested the portmapping through my mobile by using a FTP client which is able to force EPSV through IPv4 and i got a successful connection.

If i try the same with my notebook ( connected to the internet through a IPv4 connection ) it fails, because of the error message:

500 You are connected using IPv6. PASV is only for IPv4. You have to use the EPSV command instead.

I also tried to test through https://ftptest.net/ and it fails at PASV command.

My request would be to make "force EPSV over IPv4" available as an option for a FTP connection.

#10314 Keyboard Shortcut for Add files to queue new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

Hello Support,

I would like to request for Keyboard Shortcut for "Add files to queue", I have already checked on your below wiki page, it's not listed there.

#10339 Unable to sort download table new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Great tool - use it most days

Sometimes I set up a big list of downloads. I then stop the process and wish to sort the list by file size so I can remove all the big files or all the small files. But although I can click the size column and I get a UI reaction to indicate a click happened the table does not sort.

#10349 Automatic Backup of file sitemanager.xml new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Today my PC crashes and sitemanager.xml was entirely wiped out...damn!!! As today (damn!!!) I will backup it using third party applications but it would nice to have a backup copy of file sitemanager.xml at each program starts, something like sitemanager.xml.bck

#10363 Offer more UTF-8 options for Quickconnect and Settings new Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit, SP1, 6.1.7601 Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Version: 3.10.3 i686 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, SP1, 6.1.7601

Please offer more Charset settings for UTF-8/16 under "Settings" dialogue and for the Quickconnect bar to allow users to set a default behavior for all connections under Site Manager and on Quickconnect.

I often get a very long link such as ftp://ipaddress/dir1/dir2/dir3/etc which points to a directory with international filenames and the Quickconnect bar is best way to connect. However, it fails to enable UTF8 so I see garbage filenames. So I must Site Manager, but I must always change the "General - Host" field and often enable "Charset - Force UTF8" for every different different ftp link or IP address.

I am aware of "Upcoming Changes" in the Forums. https://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?t=36597

#10444 speed limits apply per-file, not total for the server new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

Speed limits are applied for each individual file download. So if the limit is 100KB/s and one file is being downloaded the total BW occupied by FTP downloads is 100KB/s. If two users are connected (or a single user is downloading two files) the maximum BW becomes 200KB/s.

This makes it nearly impossible to allow more than one connection while limiting total bandwidth the server is using.

#10483 Site Manager default status new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

Is there a way to have FileZilla default to the Site list being focused when activating the Site Manager? I'd like to be able to start tabbing or arrowing to the site I want to open rather that having to mouse over and double click.

#10597 Specify simultaneous transfers per server in addition to globally new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

FZ currently allows users to define the max simultaneous transfers (1-10) as well as concurrent downloads/uploads. Please add the ability to define concurrent download/uploads on server-basis. The goal is to have 1 download or upload running per server I have in my queue.

Let's say I have 100 files queued to download across 3 different servers. The expected behavior is to have 3 downloads running simultaneously with 1 from each server running. Currently, a global setting of 3 doesn't allow this.

#10601 Client - Option to inherit local permissions on downloaded files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

The client should have the option of inheriting local permission instead of preserving remote permissions on files downloaded from remote servers.

#10616 File transfert: yes/no overwrite or copied. How to know? new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When we transfert files and some files are existing in the target, we can choise to overwrite or not if the source/target is more recent. But in the log window, we only know if the transfert is ok/ko, but we don't know what it did: replace or not ?

I suggest to add a column like :

  • "copy" if the target is missing
  • "replace" if the target is replaced
  • "keep" if the file exist and it is not replaced

Thanks, Ruben

#10637 Download/Upload Green Progress Bar in Taskbar new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi FileZilla Devs, I would like to propose adding a status bar in the taskbar for Windows. Some programs such as Movie Maker, File Explorer, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome etc. have a green status bar that shows file transfer completion or download completion. It should be fairly easy to implement, you can look at the documentation here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd391692(v=vs.85).aspx And you may want to look at SetProgressValue. I would find this feature extremely beneficial and don't think it would be very hard to implement.

#10643 Add a keyboard shortcut for the "Reset and requeue" option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

As stated in the summary -- in my humble opinion this might improve the user experience for some people. Personally, I may have to re-upload or re-download files after small changes have been made to them, so the "Reset and requeue selected files" command is something I use very often.

#10648 Set maximum simultaneous transfers per-server rather than globally new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Currently, one can define the max transfers globally as well as max up and max down. A powerful addition would be to also define them on a per-sever basis. Use case: I want to download from server A and from server B. I have 100 files in queue from server A and I want to both transfers to run in parallel. Currently, I cannot do this without manually prioritization.

#10651 Use temporary directory to save updates new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It seems counter-productive to store automatically downloaded updates in one of the user's profile directories when in most cases it will be installed at launch anyway. I propose storing the downloaded files in a temporary directory and automatically cleaning them up when the update is run. This could also be made optional.

I, for example, use my Downloads directory to store permanent files rather than temporary downloads, and I find it somewhat annoying to go in there after a while and find one or more update files that I did not choose to download or place there, especially if I have to delete them myself.

#10660 Press [Enter] to connect to site new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When I press Command-S after I start FileZilla and get the site manager the first site is highlighted. It would be nice to be able to connect to that site with [Enter]. I personally only connect to one site but I imagine other people might want to be able to select between sites with the up-down cursors then connect with enter.

The funny thing is that this I remember being able to connect with enter in previous versions of filezilla.

#10687 Option to disable the greeting menu new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Always if an upgrade to a new version is done FileZilla does show on the next start its greeting menu. Maybe there could be an option to disable this menu.

#10705 Edited File Visual Indications and Context Menu Unedit option new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be helpful if we could enable some sort of visual styling or cues (e.g., pencil icon indicator) for files in the local pane being edited.

Additionally, it would be very helpful to have an Unedit option on the context menu for the local pane for files being edited. (Just grey out the menu option if not being edited.)

Much thanks for all your efforts on this invaluable FTP tool.

#10725 Provide Filezilla in Windows Store new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be extremely convenient to find FileZilla in Windows Store so that installing & updating could be done directly via the Store. I'd even pay some $ for it!

#10733 Ability to change tab title format new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Right now, a tab's title is set to the bookmark name plus the connection string with user@host. I name all of my bookmarks as "hostname: ip (user)" so that from the bookmark menu, I can see everything relevant. Unfortunately, most of that information is duplicated in the tab's title, making the tabs very wide.

Please consider allowing the end user to choose the format in which a tab's title is displayed.

#10748 False warning “Target file already exists” new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

I appreciate there would be considerable overhead in continually refreshing the display of the remote system so I’m not asking for that. However, I think it would be beneficial to automatically refresh the details of any files(s) about to be uploaded. Allow me to explain.

I upload FRED.TXT to a Linux server. On that server I discover a problem so I delete FRED.TXT from the remote system. Having locally modified FRED.TXT I attempt to upload the revised file, which produces a warning: “Target file already exists” even though it doesn’t.

Of course, if I had clicked the icon for “Refresh the file and folder lists” this message would not appear.

My question is as follows: can FileZilla automatically check to see if FRED.TXT still exists on the remote system?

#10760 Windows installer in other languages new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I would like to see the FileZilla client windows installer in other languages. So i would like for it to be translateable so i can translate it.

#10761 Nightly Windows installer don't say its nightly new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I downloaded the nightly FileZilla client called FileZilla_3_setup.exe. But it seems both the filename and windows installer does not give any information that this is a nightly build.

Only after installation does it say. So people might install it thinking its a stable version.

So maybe add "nightly" both to the filename and in the windows installer so people can know.

#10771 Queue stalls while asking for confirmation new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Behaviour: I am transferring multiple files to the server. I have set up Filezilla to ask me if a file in the queue has the same name as a file already on the server (overwrite, overwrite if newer, etc.). Filezilla suspends the whole queue until I answer. For example, say I want to upload 100 files and there is a query about the 11th file in the queue. Until I answer, files 12 – 100 are not uploaded.

Wanted behaviour: Filezilla should continue to transfer the rest of the files in the background while waiting for my answer. Upload of files 12 – 100 shouldn't depend on the answer about file 11. If Filezilla encounters a second question later in the queue, it can simply ask a new instance of the question.

#10776 Exclude Local Site from Speed Limits new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I would LIKE to set a max download speed because if I set it to unlimited then Filezilla will use all my download speed which means I can't browse the internet quickly, watch YouTube videos, etc.

I would LIKE to set the max download speed to 5.6 MB/s but I can't because I also use FTP to download videos from my satellite receiver and that would only download at 5.6 MB/s instead of 50 MB/s.

Could you please add the ability to exclude local connections from the speed limits? Or add a separate speed limit for local connections. Thanks

#10787 Separate Windows & Customizable Shortcuts new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I like the tabs feature for being connected to multiple servers, but I'd also like to be able to have separate windows for when I am connected to multiple servers (or even multiple locations on one server, staging vs. prod).

Similarly, it would be great to be able to break out the Transfer Queue & Message Log sections onto their own windows.

Also, I'd like to be able to add & customize my own shortcuts. A few examples are switching between bookmarks, quickly toggling the Synchronized Browser & Director Comparison options, and being able to upload/download files via a quick key (either a quick cast kind of thing, or an option could be that it brings up the dialog window).

These requested features would be awesome, and I'm sure it would speed up workflow for those who prefer key commands over the mouse.

Thanks for reading this!

#10788 Inserting FTP Url new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello, I love Filezilla but there is one "bug" which annoys me and is a real usability problem to me.

Sometimes I get FTP Urls like ftp://username:password@address:port/long/path/with/lots/of/slashes

I can paste them into the quick connect address bar and FileZilla connects fine. But when I want to save the new FTP credential I open the FTP Server Connect Manager and paste my URL there - this time FileZilla doesn't put the different parts of the URL in its corresponding input fields especially the username and the password are not take over.

This is very annoying as I have to select the username and password twice per mouse and copy and paste it in its fields.

It would be great to have FileZilla adding the username and password from URLs to the corresponding fields in the Server Manager.

Thank you for this great software, best Simon

#10797 Deletion of Downloaded Update File new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

After FileZilla Client does an update check (either automatically or manually) and determines that an update is needed, it downloads the update file to the %DOWNLOADS% folder. You can then choose to run the Update file and patch the Client software. It will close and reopen when completed. At this point though, the file that was downloaded is still in the %DOWNLOADS% directory. There is no benefit to leaving this file behind once the upgrade has taken place. Even if the upgrade fails, another copy can/will be downloaded if you allow the client software to initiate the update process for you. It would make for a cleaner installation to simply delete/purge the file instead of leaving it (and however many other copies of updates) in the Downloads folder, where some unsavvy PC users might never see them to delete them.

#10798 Description within installer executable and FileZilla executable new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Would it be possible to get a change made to the text within the fields of the executables? The change I'd recommend is to modify the FileZilla installer's Product Description to "Filezilla FTP Client Installer", instead of leaving it as "FileZilla FTP Client".

The reason that I am requesting this change is that I work for a company that makes a product that allows you to elevate applications, installers, scripts, msc consoles etc. based upon the criteria of the application being opened, rather than giving the users themselves administrator rights.

The scenario I have here is that both the FileZilla installer and the Filezilla FTP Client executable have identical information - this means that we cannot use this information to allow the installer to elevate, but keep the actual FTP client running as a standard user (in order to maintain the principal of least privilege on customer endpoints).

The only workaround I have at the moment is to allow elevation whenever the following fields are spotted in an executable: Publisher: Open Source Developer, Tim Kosse Product Description: FileZilla FTP Client Product Name: FileZilla This would elevate any app meeting this criteria, and is not ideal as the FileZilla client doesn't require admin rights - only the installer does.

#10817 Priority - View per tab instead of one clumsy list new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Just one thing i always pop up when i use priority management. All files, with different priorities, keep in the same list. If you have a queue of hundreds/thousends of files it is a middle nightmare to re-assign some priorities of files.

And here is my pretty simple solution to make this all a whole lot better.

#10846 Site List URL Setting Suggestion new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I use FileZilla from multiple computers. I used http://www.code-zen.net/2009/syncing-filezilla-sites-across-computers-with-dropbox/ to learn how to store my file list on Dropbox. However I am sure that others would want to do the same thing so it would be nice if there was just a setting where you could change your file list folder to wherever you want such as Dropbox.

#10865 Open directory in new tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I often open multiple connections to the same server to modify/view files which effect each other and are located in different folders. To make things more convenient it would be ideal to have an option "Open Folder in New Connection" in a folder's right-click context menu. This would establish a new connection in a new tab with that folder as the active directory.

This would avoid the need to start a new connection, specify "establish new connection" and navigate to the desired folder which in some cases requires a drill down through 7+ folders.

#10875 Feature Request new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

Hi All,

we need some changes to this client, it has been sometime now without any major features:

1- To be able to autoupdate the files. 2- Site manager search, the domains i have is more than 100, it would a good feature to be able to search the site manager for a specific domain or user 3- Security, i need to protect the site manager somehow, maybe a login and password? 4- Shortcuts, example when i have a site that can work via ssh, i can add the shortcut on the menu and it will execute the desired ex: terminal ssh root@*.com -u {user} -p {password}

This last request can replace all, to be able to add script to run on filezilla, just like mac scripts, we will handle the rest, simply a plugin feature.

Thanks in advance

#10894 Hierarchical site entries new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

As a user I'd like to have the opportunity to have in my site manager cascading entries. In a lot of situations I have many entries related to the same server with the same account and maybe the only thing that change is the starting folder path. In such situations, I'd like to have the ability to configure the server once and then to create N descendant customized childs. This, for example, would prevent me to update N entries every time the main password change, allowing me to achieve the same result with only one password update.

#10900 Navigable locations for Remote and Local paths new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

For example, I opened this path "/home/user/web/site.com/public_html/assets/css". Now, if I want to go back to the "/home/user" directory I should level up several times (moreover sometimes, it happens with delays due to server response). To improve this, it would be great to have paths clickable and when I click on the "user" should open this directory.

Of course, to not break old behaviour, when I click on the end of the path or on the slash, it should highlight it as before and let me copy/paste/edit paths. As another option, it should open desired directory only on double-click.

#10928 Conflict between hidden files and directory comparison new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Per tickets such as #1278, directory comparison is the only workaround for obeying the Windows "hidden" attribute.

FileZilla cannot achieve the following:

a) Obey Windows hidden settings b) Directory comparison

If you create a filter to hide hidden files and directories, the following error occurs when connecting with directory comparison enabled:

"Cannot compare directories, different filters for local and remote directories are enabled"

If you try to apply a hidden attribute filter under remote filters, you are (correctly) told:

"Selected filter only works for local files."

There seems to be no way to remove the vast amount of ridiculous cruft from showing, *and* use directory comparison. The two notions are orthogonal: directory comparison is based on the data you want to see and expect to see, while hiding OS cruft is about removing all the behind-the-scenes system data that has no bearing on anything that you are ever doing (which is why it's hidden from you at all times).

It should be possible for FileZilla to obey the Windows file view state, while having full functionality when working with a Linux server, since the files and directories that should be hidden in the local view don't relate to working with a Linux server.

#10945 Allow TYPE I before logon new Feature request normal FileZilla Server
Description

I would like FileZilla Server to allow clients to send TYPE I before logon (similar to #9878 allowing OPTS UTF8 ON before logon).

This is because the Cisco MDS 9710 firmware, NX-OS version 6.2.1, has a bug: it sends TYPE I before logon. The command is rejected, resulting in the firmware files transferring in ASCII mode (and getting corrupted in the process). This behavior is fixed in later firmware versions. Cisco firmware does not offer a generic FTP client (it only prompts me for the host, username, password, and path) so it appears the only way to overcome this bug is on the FTP server side.

Based on SVN commit r6120 that fixed #9878, I have created and attached a possible patch. However, I don't know how to compile the source to test the patch.

Failed firmware update: NX-OS 6.2(1)

Note line 5, where the old switch firmware sends "TYPE I" before logon.

#10954 Binary file transfer mode must be a default file transfer mode. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

ASCII and Auto mode can lead to data corruption as it did for me right now (I had an "Auto"). If somebody will ever need ASCII mode he could always turn it on in their settings. Binary file transfer mode must be a default file transfer mode. This small improvement can dramatically increase reliability of the whole program.
