An error occurred with TLS renegotiation while downloading file > 1 GB on server using passive FTP with explicit authentication on TLS.

Every time I turn off the computer, if I don't close the FileZilla window, I get this error (in the attachment). The error is about a year old. I used to use Windows 7, but I thought it would disappear when I switched to Windows 10.

How to repeat bug:

1. Open FileZilla
2. Click "Shut down Windows" or press power button.
3. A dialog appears with an error.

After downloading the update to version 3.26.1 I get an error message every time I start and end filezilla. See enclosed image. I also get the information that a new update is available but more often I install it nothing changes. Completely uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled filezilla with noe effect whatsoever. when the local directory (it must be a child directory of the "volumes" directory, for example an external hard drive) is updated and in the mount or usb key, the "Volumes" directory has been updated elsewhere (new disk or assembly) on initial path of the local directory is modified as if it were the position in the displayed list and not the name of the initial path. this bug exists since I use filezilla on macos

I want to transfer files with timestamps via sftp from a unix station (recent Debian 10) to a windows system containing invalid characters. In version 3.53.1 this stopped working as before.

One of the files I want to transfer is called 2021-05-07_23:53:01-LEDDiagnose.png. When I try to transfer this file directly, the invalid characters (":") are replaced by "_" as configured in the settings dialog Filter invalid characters from filenames and the transfer succeeds:

On my PC I now have the file 2021-05-07_23_53_01-LEDDiagnose.png available. So there is no problem with the file, the permissions or the connection (it is a small picture containing only a few pixels, that's why the file is very small).

But when I try to download the whole directory containing that file, I get the following error message in the log window:

The client requests the status of the file with the invalid characters already replaced, so the server is totally right complaining that the file 2021-05-07_23_53_01-LEDDiagnose.png is not existing in this directory. The replacement of the invalid characters should probably be done only on the client and not on the server side when downloading files.

I sync this folder periodically to my PC, so most of the files already exist on my side. The error in the log is reported before the dialog "target file already exists" opens and no matter which option I choose there, the transfer fails.

I experienced this issue with version 3.54.1 and 3.53.1. Versions 3.52.2 and before are working as expected.

(#12452 sounds somehow similar, but there I don't see any invalid characters involved.)

That settings directory does not appear to exist on my computer.

This error started some versions ago in 2023. This popup window has to be manually closed each time I open or attempt to close. If I try to reboot my mac while FileZilla is running this popup will halt the restart process.

I was running a 2018 Mac Mini (with intel processor), with previous Mac OS, when this error started.

I am now running a Mac Studio (with Apple silicon) on OS Sonoma v 14.1.2

This error occurs if I run FileZilla from the downloads folder (where the FileZilla downloader puts it or after I manually move it to the top level applications folder.

It is not letting me rename my file. Every time I try I get an error. I have been renaming this file for years, I am not sure why I cannot today

On starting, FileZilla pops up this error box:

After updated to 3.5.3 I get this error when I quit the program (roughly translated from Italian):

My OS is Windows XP SP3 full updated.

I have been using Filezilla FTP since long time for file sharing from client site to server site. Till yesterday it worked perfectly alright. But today it is showing up this error.

In the folder browser there is the entry "Desktop". When I select it FileZilla switches to its real location (e.g. C:\Programs\Documents and Setting\Username\Desktop). Like in other programs I'd like to have this changed so that the folder browser doesn't get expanded until the real location, because in my opinion the actual behavior is unhandy.

When you open a file for editing, and then save it, FileZilla recognizes the change and prompts you to update the server. It should say "Finished Editing" and not "Finish Editing".

Hi, In my company, a server has been patched, and since, I cannot connect it with SFTP with FileZilla. I had the same problem with PuTTY. But with Putty, I was abble to modify the cypher from AES to Blowfish, and it solved the problem.

However, in FileZilla, it isn't possible to change this option.

I mean it could be very great to had this functionality, isn't it ?

It would be beneficial to download and user interaction response times if FileZilla could reuse the browsing connection (the first connection made and browsed with) to initiate file transfers, and open a second connection to resume browsing until the transfers have completed.

This arose from my use of a ssh+ftp connection which has very quick transfer times but was very slow to establish connections. With this connection policy/option available a simple two-file grab could be much quicker, and by automatically opening a connection before the user browses to the next directory you minimize overall delays experienced by the user.

This is a duplicate of #5062 however it is a decade old, and as stated in that ticket 10 months ago modern 21st century compute & network technology can easily handle hundreds of concurrent SFTP/FTP sessions, no reason keeping limit.

When dealing with thousands of small files, and scenarios where there is a speed limit per transfer, that 10 transfer limit is a severe bottleneck, and an unnecessary one.

When doing a large download which takes more than 1 hour the elapse time does not show the hour.

This morning I ran updates and used the new Filezilla version 3.66.5 for the first time. Editing a remote configuration file on one of my servers, after I saved the file and responded to the upload dialog, filezilla crashed and the window closed.

When I went to the server directory to edit the file in the shell, I found that the file was set to a size of 0 bytes, so the contents were totally lost. I was able to retrieve the file from a backup made last night, but otherwise this would have been a difficult loss to overcome.

Hey, I having an issue with filezilla on uploading files and editing them from the server. the problem accure on any server and not on specific one. I have tested with diffrent file editors and computers but the problem still stays. this issue very interupt me while working while editing files on live site and the files doesn't uploaded at their full weight.

FileZilla v3.5.1 does not delete edited local file (manually downloaded *not* edited on-the-fly) when checkbox "Finish editing and delete local file" is checked.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start FileZilla
2. Connect to FTP
3. Drag-and-drop file from remote panel (or use "download" option from context menu) to local dir, edit it and save changes.
4. A confirm box appears and asks you: "Finish editing and delete local file?" Check this option and click yes / no. Local file is *not* deleted.

Note: edited file is deleted (if checkbox is selected then file is deleted regardless which button I click - and that's ok in my opinion :)) when editing on-the-fly (using context-menu option called: "view / edit".

I don't know if this should help but this problem exists from some previous stable versions of FileZilla (or is it just my imagination?).

Let's assume the following common situation, two folders having two different files' content but having the same filename: ./folder1/.htaccess ./folder2/.htaccess

Steps to reproduce the bug:

1. Retrieve ./folder1/.htaccess with FileZilla
2. Edit the file
3. Retrieve ./folder2/.htaccess and erase previous file
4. Edit the file and confirm uploading back the file to the server

Result: the last file edited (from ./folder2/.htaccess) will unfortunately erase ./folder1/.htaccess and not the right one.

Ticket #3772 is the closest ticket found in the tracker, even if it cannot be considered the same thing. Bug discovered in FileZilla 3.8.0.

I'm using notepad++ as an text editor and edit files using filezilla. I keep my windows open for days/weeks, so i keep notepad++ and filezilla open for all that time. I also put my computer to hibernate each day.

Randomly, on notepad++ i see that some of the edited files are not existing anymore. I checked on the temporary folder and indeed they are not there anymore. I had this issue for years, i think even on another computer

Steps to reproduce:

1. Connect to server
2. view/edit a file and again upload it on file change prompt.
3. disconnect to the server (ctrl + d)
4. edit an already opened file in the editor and save it
5. switch to FileZilla client
6. Filezilla will prompt to upload changes to the server
7. Click on Yes
8. The file is uploaded to the server

It would be helpful if we could enable some sort of visual styling or cues (e.g., pencil icon indicator) for files in the local pane being edited.

Additionally, it would be very helpful to have an Unedit option on the context menu for the local pane for files being edited. (Just grey out the menu option if not being edited.)

As the summary says it would be great to have a field with autosuggest (prompting the data you got in the site manager) right before the host field. I personally have 100+ websites added to the site manager and I had to split them in directories, but this slow me down each time I need to connect to a different one. I would rather type some of the text of their title and have the fields filled up with an hit of enter key. I think it would increase the usability by a lot.

I'm editing a bunch of file, which is made easier due to the FileZilla file-list right-click pop-up menu's Edit option, where I can retrieve a file into my designated editor to make changes and save then, then return to FileZilla, which notices the change and offers to uploaded the changed file and the file unlocked.

However, if I find that the file locked for editing doesn't actually need to be changed, so not saved, meaning that I return to FileZillia, I need to unlock the file marked for editing using the File>Show files currently being edited... (Ctrl-E), which disrupts the workflow. Rater, in addition to the unlock via the File menu and dialog, I suggest that an Un-Edit option be added to the pop-up menu where the Edit option shows (file-list right-click pop-up menu's Edit), which when clicked removes the file from the current files being edited list.

It would be nice to edit QuickConnect entries. I just edited the file recentservers.xml to add LocalDir and RemoteDir parameters, but they seem to be ignored if used via QuickConnect in oposition to what happens with sitemanager.xml. Why limit the possibilities of QuickConnect and allow users to configure the settings as he would in the "normal" way? Thanks.

We have filezilla for many years and it is first time we get such error. No any changes have been done. Tehre are 3 employees with the same error. We use last version 3.44.2; Windows 7, 64 bit.

We use filzeilla to download sanctioned party lists to be conform with compleance regulations and embargoes.

It would be helpful to be able to set a SMPT server for E-mail notification once the transfers are uploaded/downloaded.

There are occasions where I have files that are out of the norm - binary files w/o any extension for example. Consider adding a right-click option for upload/download to include upload_special/download_special. The "special" pick would allow a one-shot override of the ASCII / Binary / AUTO config setting.

I often transfer files through FileZilla that are of varying sizes; and I often find myself prioritizing files by size, since I want to download the smaller ones first, then gradually start downloading larger files as the queue gets completed.

So here's my idea; Say, while you're transferring a 10MB file that takes some time to upload, if the next file is only 2KB, for example, then it will override the transfer limit automatically and upload that 2KB file while it's uploading the 10MB file. if the next file is, say, 3MB, then it will wait until the 10MB file transfer is done.

It's kind of hard to explain but I hope you get the gist of it. This would be nice to have as a option, especially when you are backing up a website via FTP to your computer.

Anyway, I hope the see this feature implemented eventually. Thanks for reading this long request. I have to say that I would not be as happy using FTP if it weren't for FileZilla; it's been the most helpful program for FTP uploads I've ever used. Thank you so much for developing it.

Since last 3 versions of FileZilla i have noticed this bug which can be reproduced easily and with consistency

1. In your local machine. Select multiple folders that have sub folders upto 3 levels and have files in them
2. Upload them in remote server using FileZilla.
3. Once the cycle is finished successfully check if all files have transferred.

Result: In FileZilla all files will show under "Successfully Transferred" tab. But on server some files will still be missing randomly.

We found this out while releasing .net based application on google cloud server and since last 3 versions this bug appeared, .net application crashed randomly and upon checking we found some files were missing, so i checked in detail - i had the files in local folder, but they were missing in remote folder.

We even tried repeating the upload cycle multiple times and each time some missing files would get uploaded but still some files remained.

To overcome this issue now we are zipping the entire folder and uploading them - but then this approach requires access to terminal to complete the release process.

During installation of the client, the installer offers to install for "everyone" or "only for me."

Presumably, if you choose "only for me," the installer should not require admin rights.

However, during installation, the "only for me" option still attempts to install to C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client, which standard users would not typically have write access to.

More preferably, when "only for me" is chosen, the default directory would be something more akin to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local.

This could either be a bug or a feature request, but I would categorize it as a bug since many users, especially in a typical enterprise, don't know what they do and don't have write access to.

Filezilla is creating copies of folders inside other existing folders. I am finding that if, on the local directory side, one folder is highlighted... and then I click and hold the arrow to open a folder below it, a green + appears, and when I let go of the mouse it gives an error message about not being able to create files in a directory. Then I start seeing copies of the highlighted folder inside the other folder. Filezilla has become unusable for me because it is creating and burying copies of folders locally faster than I can remove them.

By mistake, I've imported twice the same xml file containing site profiles. Now my ftp sites appears twice on site manager. I suggest you, if possible, to show a warning if the xml file contains sites with the same name/data of existing profiles and ask what to do (overwrite, import with another name (i.e. adding "(2)" at the end, or do nothing), to avoid duplicated entries when importing site profiles.

I am using newer filezilla "3.3.4.1" But i am reporting a bug for previous version "3.3.4"

While using FileZila "3.3.4" i faced a problem like all the existing site manager entries got duplicated automatic, there are more than 200 sites are stored in Site Manager & those are automatic duplicated to 400.

And also there is no multiple selection option to delete all duplicates sites at one go.

and if i am delete middle entry the scroll bar gets up after deleting site , its not stay at the last moment

Every day I use FileZilla and it is common for me to open several tabs connecting to the same server/ftp account. On every new tab I have to manually navigate to the folder I am interested.

It would be a nice feature to add a "Duplicate tab" functionality, meaning open a new tab, connecting to the same server and open the same folder as the original tab.

Filezilla has reached a peak. Basically it is the goto for any sort of file transfer client. It needs something that would also dominate the marketshare: The ability to choose both remote panes and/or both local panes for file transfer.

Yes, this requires a HUGE internal and GUI overhaul BUT at the end of the day, I think it would be a awesome addition and can make Filezilla close to even a file manager (which honestly, this is the only thing missing from it)

The community has asked for it several times but it has been rejected because it is complex. I understand that this cannot be done in one day but the saying says Rome wasn't built in one day..

The FTP-style-link got implemented - unfortunately the HTTP one didnt.

For most (p2p) programs this is a very easy option to add.

If option can only be set via manually writing to the settings text file, then on-board client options should be added for ease of use.

Reasons: 1. Privacy; account name becomes a part of the footprints for downloads.

2. Not everybody wants to write to their system drive. Personally since my power mac days tried to keep the system drive just for the system (using partition) and G4 days system drive independent of all work and personal files by directing them to alternate drives. Past 11 years used an mp3,1 upgraded 2 years ago with SSD system drive. I wish to keep writes restricted to system’s demands (run 24/7); other 4 larger drives for work and personal files.

Using Gnome, if I drag&drop a file or folder from Desktop or Nautilus to Filezilla, files are uploaded correctly but if I drag&drop from FileZilla to Desktop nothing happens.

It's very useful for backup purposes, making a copy of server files before overwrite with new ones...

Instead of moving items by dragging on the local side, it moves BUT leaves the original where it was, causing a duplicate to be developed.

I wanted to request a feature which the Macintosh has in its folder setup. You click and drag an object onto a folder (i.e. an image from your server to your desktop onto the folder titled "Pictures"), and if you hold that object over the folder for a specific amount of time (maybe a setting for the timer?), it will automatically open the folder, so you can drop the image there, or drop it into a sub-folder.

While there are, yes, many ways around this, it would be nice to have this feature available.

When you click and drag a file up, it does not scroll up to the folders, but rather sits and stalls.

Would be good if an FTP site, incl. target folder could be represented as a shortcut in a folder so dragging and dropping a file on the shortcut uploads the file to the specifiec FTP site/folder, like dropping file on a folder shortcut in Win OS (or any OS). It saves time from starting FZ, selecting site, browse to folder, upload etc.

I've connected to the remove computer correctly. Same as I have on many times. I updated to the latest version yesterday and now this problem. Is there another way to transfer a file?

When you drag-and-drop in the remote panel, a plus-sign appears, implying that the file will be copied. But actually the file is moved. Holding the Ctrl key down while dragging still results in a move operation.

Get rid if the plus-sign, and preferably make the Ctrl key modify the drag-and-drop behaviour.

When I drag and drop a file from a server into a subfolder in the disk directly using the explorer windows, I receive an error related to the shell extension.

When I drag and drop a distant file to my Windows 11 File Explorer, the file is well created. But when I try to replace this one by another distant version, File Explorer crashes. This error doesn't occur, if I copy the file by downloading it directly inside FileZilla.

I would like to request the ability to drag files from Server-View directly to my desktop. On my Windows-version of FileZilla at home it's working, but at work on a mac it show this cursor "" when i'm trying to drag files onto my desktop.

If you take a file from a remote server and you want to put it locally with doag and drop i can do the action like in windows.

All the version of FileZilla that i have used have this problem on OSX I think is great to solve it.

My FileZilla has just updated itself to the latest version but the drag and drop facility isn't working which means that I can't use Filezilla for what I need it to do. I have a huge client client who has come to a grinding halt because I can't access this functionality.

Unfortunatelly, due to the abruptly interruption it's hard to me to precise if some particular characteristic of the file being downloaded triggers the issue. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be file-size related, as I've succeeded downloading other large files, but I would suspect to have some connnection when a folder subtree contains thousands of files. Or yet I would wonder if some very long paths could be the cause? I have experienced the issue repeated times with different parts/subtrees of my OneDrive target connection.

I have a few downloads where the orig filesize is 11 gb. The download window says 100% and the filesize is about 6GB higher than the original.... :( And it keeps on going and going..... What gives with that?

The logs say its still downloading from the Seedbox server and in the Download Quence, the Downloads are still their but they stop and have the "?" next to the speed or next to the amount the file should be downloading at, Plus the traffic lights at the bottom right hand side of the application, turns off. The Only way to unfreeze or turn the lights back on or resume the downloads, is by unchecking the "Process Quence" and clicking on it again. Please help.

My local FTP directory for all of my websites syncs to my other computers via Dropbox Pro.

In the current version of Filezilla when you queue a large directory/entire site to download, and Dropbox begins to upload this causes Filzilla to hang, spring back to life, hang again and so on. The problem seems related to dynamically adding files to the queue; as soon as queuing is done the problems end. If the directory contains a very large number of <1k files this causes Filezilla to crash outright. Quitting Dropbox solves the problem.

I've used Fz for years with this setup, it has not previously caused any problems.

I was downloading a Joomla website with a reasonably large amount of temporary files to my local computer. The total number of files moved was 7,079. However, the folder structure on the target side is not the same as the on the source size and files seem to have ended up in random locations. It looks like that the 'active' folder for the file transfer was set to whatever the 'active' folder was for the thread that was queueing all the files to be processed. For example. I have a folder "templates" on the source side, with subfolders "beez", "ja_purity", etc. But on the target side, the "templates" folder does not have any subfolders, but has just contains a few files "blogger.php", "blogger.xml" and a few more, that should be in "plugins./xmlrpc". The "beez" and "ja_purity" folders have ended up within the "tmp" folder instead of in "templates" on the target side. But then have subfolders themselves that are in the tmp folder on the source side.

I have the max simultaneous transfers set to 1. The source server is a Linux machine, running Apache 2.2.3. The target machine is a Windows 7 one.

Sometime the download session won't stop even the download percentage is up to 100% so that the size of the downloaded file is larger than the original one on the FTP server.

FileZilla gets into a state where I have a local file and a remote (SCP) file that I am attempting to download. I right-click the remote file and select Download. "Target file already exists" dialog pops up and I do not change options (default to Overwrite). Select OK button.

If I simply select the local file and delete it (shift-Delete key, in my case) and attempt the operation again it downloads correctly. Downloading *again* I will get an option to Overwrite and no more error until the next time the client has timed out a connection to the server (I guess?) and I'll get the error again.

Hi FileZilla Devs, I would like to propose adding a status bar in the taskbar for Windows. Some programs such as Movie Maker, File Explorer, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome etc. have a green status bar that shows file transfer completion or download completion. It should be fairly easy to implement, you can look at the documentation here: ​https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd391692(v=vs.85).aspx And you may want to look at SetProgressValue. I would find this feature extremely beneficial and don't think it would be very hard to implement.

When doing a long download with FileZilla, time counter for used time goes zero after two hours. So when download have gone over 1:59:59, counter resets to 00:00 and goes on from there.

Haven't tested if it goes back to zero multiple times (when transfers lasts more than 4 hours etc).

It would be cool if there was download graph with five lines, 1) current download spead (kb/second), 2&3) download progess current file (percent and Mb), 4&5) total download for the Que (percent and Mb).

Like a polygraph, the pens draw the line from right, and the history(paper) scrolls left.

Admitedly trivial utility, but it would be cool!

I have an FTP server with HostGator provider (CENTOS 7.9 Linux) and I only used their tool to access it. After an update it managed to connect, but it mistranslated the filenames. Now it connects and lists folders and files that I renamed to solve the translation issue. But now I can't download, just through Windows Explorer (windows 10 Pro x64). Not to mention that it was much slower to access via FileZilla and it was super fast. Now I can only transfer (upload and download) these files via Windows Explorer, for new ones I can use FileZilla.

If there is not enough disk space, the files are downloading from server with size 0 and placed in the group of successful transfers.

Double-clicking a file in the remote site window used to open the file in the editor. Now it downloads the file to the local directory. Behavior changed upon update to v 3.35.1

under settings, file lists, I have double click action on files - none double click action on directories- enter direcory

I was working on a server folder that had alias folders. When I double clicked on one of these folders, filezilla did not enter the folder but rather downloaded the files in the alias folder.

Allow user to open files in local window by double clicking. The client app it tries to use never matches half the time. Have icon for VLC but it tries to open in media player. or it tries to EDIT a 1GB file in text editor. Need to split the view/edit function. I never want to edit just view.

Hi, when i minimize Filezilla to tray there are 2 identical tray icons instead of just 1 icon. This looks messy and isn't necessary.

This will save the password with the user account. This could be a security problem.

While uploading a file, the file which is being overwritten is done so in real-time rather than waiting until the transfer has finished. In other words, if it takes you 60 seconds to upload the new file, the old file is unusable for a period of 60 seconds. This is a major problem if the file you are overwriting, for example, is a server script which is accessed hundreds or thousands of times per minute. Of course, it's an even bigger problem if the connection is interrupted mid-transfer.

From the client end, I suggest a feature which allows uploading filename.ext as filename.ext.uploading (or something), then deleting the original file and renaming the new copy once the transfer is complete. This should be more seamless than the existing practice.

Of course, this should ideally be handled on the server side automatically, but I'm requesting this for the client because I am actually not using a FileZilla server on our (Linux) machines. It would be awesome if such a feature were implemented in both your client and server.

Filezilla doesn't stop trying to upload the same file after getting the disk quota limit error -452-. It gives an file exist notice with the first file but keeps trying to send the second and third.

Similarly to already closed #8305 the process does not terminate anymore. I am unsure, but I think this started happening after some Windows update. I had an earlier version of FileZilla (did not write down which one, sadly), then updated and the issue was not solved. It's easy to replicate for me: just start the app, close it with "X" and see that the process is still hanging in Task Manager and even eats 8-10% of CPU. Furthermore, if I change any settings, they do not get saved: after killing the process and opening the app again, settings revert back. Issue persists both when running as admin and as a regular user.

I'm working on a new Icon Set for Filezilla. I looked around but could not find documentation on how to properly submit an icon set for submission. I gather from searching the forum that it must be GPL compatible. Is submitting them as a "Feature Request" the proper way ? What format would you like to receive them: SVG ? (I see the app itself uses PNG but perhaps you generate the PNG from the SVG.)

When I am downloading something and I try to rename local directory I am loosing focus becouse tree is always refreshing. When renaming, local tree refreshing should be paused.

The log-reports are often needed for documentations. Developers of webprojects and webmasters like me use these to protocol their work to clients and to have a chronical overview. At the moment I have to divide manually the long reports into client referenced parts. Therefore I have to search, copy and paste a lot. My requests are:

1. Is it possible to implement a divider at the top of every

login? Could be a simple lign with signs like "*".

2. The best way would be the choice in the program

One really useful feature of Dreamweaver is the ability to quickly find a file just using the tree view alone, select it and hit 'put' to upload it. This saves a lot of time double clicking and looking at different parts of the screen.

It would be great if FileZilla could incorporate this idea, having the option to link or synchronise local and remote folders, so it knows exactly where to put each file when you click it in the tree view and tell it to upload.

Also being able to 'link' or synchronise more than one root folder for an ftp site would be great - I currently work on multiple web sites on the same server, and find it a very slow process in FZ to navigate around the local and remote directories just to upload one file...

This is my first request, so if it's rubbish will someone let me know?

When I delete a file with FileZilla 3.2.6 I have this message :

"Really delete x files?"

I would like to have a message when I delete a limited amount of files (ex < 10 ), such as this :

"Really delete 'file1.txt', 'file4', 'folder2'?"

When I'm working on a production server I want to be sure not to delete the wrong file (or worst : the wrong folder).

The visual hint (file selected in list) is not enough when I have to go fast and in terms of usability isn't the best way because the message box can cover the selected files.

I'm making mistake in drag-drop directory unexpectedly. Especially remote directory's case is getting critical. So I suggest to display confirm dialog like "Are you sure?" when drag-drop directory, we can avoid unexpected trouble... Thank you.

It would be really handy if the Transfer Type of a file (ASCII or Binary) would be displayed in the Queue. This might be an optional display setting, of course.
