#8749 Lockup after downloading file while editing new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I download a file from the server and EDIT the file. At some point later I have to re-download the file. Once it downloads I get the dialog box asking if I want to re-upload the file because it changed, but I also get the dialog box asking if I want to edit a file that's already being edited, then it locks up.

I'm running OS X 10.8.

#8755 Speed limits doesn’t work properly under XP Pro (32-bit) with SP3 new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla 3.7.0.2 is using the full bandwidth of the network connection and doesn’t honor the speed limits when they are set and active. This is happening for the both limits on Download & Upload.

If we are watching the reported momentary speed in the transfer queue everything is fine because the speed match to the configured limits. Actually Filezilla is transferring the file at the full speed of the connection ignoring the speed limits that were reported properly in the queue.

Example: 1) The size of the test file is about 101 MiB at:

ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/21.0/source/firefox-21.0.source.tar.bz2

2) The speed of my connection is 3 Mbits/s 3) The download limit is set to 100 KiB/s 4) The parameter for the reported speed of the Transfer Queue is checked to:

[v] Display momentary transfer speed instead of average speed

5) When I start the file download the reported speed in transfer queue is constant at 100 KiB/s 6) When the file is downloaded at 50% and I disable the speed limit then Filezilla reports that the file is downloaded at 100% and shows a speed that exceed the physical speed of the connection. Actually the entire file was downloaded when the transfer queue reports 30% with active speed limit.

Description

i'm using a laptop with a wifi card and a wired card.

#8774 Crashes on exit new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

The first use in the day, when I click on the icon on the desktop it can take from one to several minutes to get to the main screen.

FileZilla then seems to work OK until I close it using the red X having disconnected first. It then crashes with a 'problem and has to close'

Subsequent use of the program open/close etc appears to be OK. It is only the first instance that has a problem.

The Windows (? - it is not specific) message allows me to see a file that will be sent, but when I try and find it there is no such file.

#8786 Keyboard shortcut for upload on selected files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

This would be most helpful and save people a lot of time. A typical work session includes uploading the same files multiple times. I can pretty much do everything from the keyboard except upload the same files, which I have to use the mouse. Actually, I don't think there is even a menu command to do this.

#8811 connection to server freezes after specified time being connected new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Sometimes FileZilla connection seems to timeout or something similar. As leaving connection open for 15 minutes, returning and trying to upload. File will be added to upload queue but it wont be uploaded.

Trying to move around in server folder is also not possible.

Clicking disconnect and connect again fixes the issue. Or simply reconnect.

#8851 Allow creating a Site with a password but without a username new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello, There is if a feature I'm missing in FileZilla: Creating a Site profile with:

  • Auth type = Normal/Interactive/Ask for Username
  • no username
  • a password

I connect often to a support sftp server where the login is the TikectID (as username) and a personal password.

If this feature is implemented then upon connection FileZilla will ask for the username and complete the login.

Thanks, Opher.

#8860 disable timezone detection new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

As there are lots of broken servers out there, an option to disable the timezone detection completely seems to be reasonable. The effect simply is that all dates parsed are considered UTC.

#8869 Menu shortcut keys not working new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

In FZ v3.7.3 (and the last few prior versions), I've noticed that after I've uploaded files via drag-and-drop, the shortcut keys don't work for the menus (Alt+F for File menu, etc.). I must use the mouse to access them---and you know how we keyboard geeks dislike that. :?)

#8874 Allow Directory Comparison with Different Filters new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

With more developers using GIT or similar Version Control Systems, I have files and folders in my local folders which I must retain, but which I would not want/need to upload to my FTP server.

Similarly, some other developers (working on the same projects, or who have created plugins or other software which I am using) may have failed to properly sanitise their files, resulting in files being on the server which cannot be seen when I have a Filter applied, and which prevent the deletion of some folders (because the folders, containing these hidden files, are not empty).

Attempting to apply a Filter, where "CVS and SVN directories" are filtered locally (so I don't upload them) and not remotely (so I can see them and delete them as needed), when I try and apply Directory Comparison, I get an error:

---------------------------
Directory comparison failed
---------------------------
Cannot compare directories, different filters for local and remote directories are enabled
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Could this alert be modified so that the buttons are "OK" and "Ignore"? Allowing users who want to apply different local and remote filters to do so, but warning other users that they may not be seeing a correct reflection of the local and remote files?

#8889 Closing tab cross doesn't work reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello,

When you have at least 2 tabs, there is a little cross on the right side of the tab, presumably to close the tab. But when you click on it, it doesn't work. The tab can be right clicked to be closed.

Steps to reproduce : Open two tabs Click the cross to close a tab Expected : the tab closes Bug : nothing happens.

This bug is present in version 3.7.3 on GNU/Linux plateform. I can't reproduce it on Mac OS X.

My window manager is Awesome WM.

#8895 FTP proxy password with ampersand new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Entering a password for the FTP proxy containing an ampersand (&), the ampersand character gets discarded, means it does not appear in filezilla.xml . Example password to test with: wRk8!uN3&UHeQ%h Gets stored in filezilla.xml as: wRk8!uN3UHeQ%h Entering the password as wRk8!uN3&UHeQ%h in filezilla.xml does not solve the issue, so retrieving the FTP proxy password with an & entity is also an issue.

#8916 Directory Comparison Untoggles after Remote Site Folder Delete new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When you have directory comparison toggled ON and delete a folder from the remote site panel the directory comparison untoggles itself.

Expected behavior would be to keep directory comparisons toggled ON.

#8930 Option for directory comparison: test only files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Scenario I enable directory comparison and both "compare file size" and "compare time modification" show lots of hilights on directories whose content is absolutely the same.

This happens because Filezilla compares directories the same way it compares files but directories can't be aligned client/server side because their modification time is actually the creation time of the first upload. So, AS SOON as I upload a new directory, it becomes always NEWER than the original and so marked green server side. On the contrary, if I upload a dir, then I delete and recreate it client side, it will be always newer than server side, unless I delete that on the server and upload again. But in this case we get back to the previous problem: on the server I'll have a newer dir. So there is no chance to have it working.

SOLUTION I don't ask you a complex/heavy content recursive analysis (as asked e.g. here http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/4424). I don't ask you to to more, I ask you to do less, adding a very much simpler option: "Test only files" which can however do the job for me.

This can probably be implemented in minutes and can save the eyes of millions of users. :-)

PS: I work on Linux client side and server side with the option "preserve timestamp". Everything it's OK for me except these useless hilights on directories.

#8945 Please add an up/down control to directly change max. of parallel filetransfers new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

Hello

There is one setting which I very often change: the max. number of parallel file transfers

It would be great to have an up/down spinner control in the Toolbar to directly change this setting with one mouse click.

Thanks a lot, kind regards, Thomas

#8954 Upload aborts delete in progress new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Use the delete key to delete a large directory on the server with 1000 or more files in it

Start an upload using drag and drop from the left hand local machine directory pane into another directory

The delete is aborted in mid progress

Try it the other way around - with a long upload in progress - delete a different directory - upsets the upload but can recover

#8957 Performance improvement possibility new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I regularly upload 5000 plus files - there is a mix of small ones (under 100k) and large ones (over 50M)and several files that have not changed at all - so use overwrite only if changed

You operate two parallel ftp channels. These tend to be response time limit when dealing with short files and bandwidth limited when transferring large files.

By selecting one channel only to do the biggest files first and the other to do smallest files first, you will get better use of bandwidth

Also note with a 60M line running more channels goes faster (test done by running two Filezilla instances concurrently)

#8958 Help Avoid user directory errors new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have a large number of websites with the same or very similar directory structures. There is a risk I make errors and upload from the wrong directory.

On the local site pane, could you consider placing a user controlled optional padlock against a directory such that you cannot, when padlocked, navigate outside that directory and its children. Then have that directory included in the remembered profile for a particular ftp address.

Now when you open an ftp address you will have the relevant local file area showing.

#8966 "Move" displays "+" as mouse pointer indication new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

This is very similar to bug 4667: http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/4667 but I think it is very important to bring this up again, as the excuse that the code relies on a clearly inadequate API is, IMHO, not acceptable for this actually DANGEROUS behaviour! I copied a file from one directory to another, decided I didn't want it there, and subsequently deleted it - only to discover that the file was NOT copied but instead moved, despite visual indications to the contrary, thus removing the only instance of that file entirely!

In fact, I'm not even convinced by the argument that the Windows drag-and-drop cursor cannot not display a plus sign - it regularly doesn't when I am MOVING files in Windows Explorer. Or if you are correct in that it doesn't, then a different icon system should be used. You mention that FTP can't do copy - that's fine if it can't, but you should give users any sort of visual indication that this is the case!

And before anyone says it, the fact that I should have had a backup is not applicable in this case - the copy was an effort to MAKE a backup! It your tool informs you, quite clearly, that you have TWO copies of a file, when it is hiding the fact that you only have one, then the tool is at fault and needs correcting!

#8986 directory path wrongly extracted from url (problems on chrooted accounts) new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

when we currently paste such ftp path (s)ftp://user:password@host/directory into filezilla it's extracted in the way:

user password host /directory

the last part is not corrected it should be just "directory" without leading slash

why it make different?

on most ftp systems, root directory == user directory (and it make no difference)

when - for security reasons - account is chrooted, then slash from beginning point outside user directory and the path can't be found

example:

(s)ftp://user:password@host/directory

on our system (with chroot) /bin /data (it's user "home" directory) /data/directory /dev /etc ....

so runing cd /directory will fail, but when you login (your current directory is set to /data) and try cd directory (relative path) everything will work fine.

so the whole bug is about removing 1st slash from directory path. (only 1st, because path like (s)ftp://user:password@host//data/directory should work - in this case your using absolute path)

such way of parsing path is used for example in FF (and other programs)

if you have any questions please let me know.

I can also prepare test (valid for 24h) account on our system (but I can't share it by ticketing system, so please mail me if such account would be helpful)

Regards, Bartosz

#8992 Better & More Log Files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Need an option for more log files.

Having 1 complete long running log file is great for debugging, but what about people who need to process those things, or even just try to figure them out.

I propose at the Program Preferences level, X options,

  1. Keep what it currently uses, 1 big file limited by MB.
  2. Create a Log file for each Site (FZ-Client_Log_[SITENAME]_[DATETIME].log)
  3. Both 1 & 2.
  4. Keep NO LOG FILE! (Warning, no log file = no chance in getting quality support from filezilla-project.org.

Then at the Site Level Preferences, At this level, give users some options, what to log, log name format.

This all stems from trying to sort through a massive log file, that includes data from dozens of sites. It's nuts. I know I'm having a problem with 1 site, I just want to see that 1 sites log.

Or is there a Log File Anal-yzer that can handle this?

Thanks for your time.

#9009 Mouse pointer moves from blank space in file list to top right corner new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When trying to do multi-select by clicking on an empty spot in the file list, rather than bringing up the drag lines, the pointer flies to the top-right corner of the screen and scrolls the file list to the top. This occurs in both the local and remote file lists.

This is only on empty space where a file would not be selected. If a file is selected on click this issue does not occur. It also only occurs if the file list has more files than will fit without scrolling, and if it has been scrolled down.

#9016 feature request - auto connect new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

If there is only one host, it would be nice if FileZilla automatically connected when it was launched, instead of having to do so manually. This could be an enable/disable feature, also with a "default" host if there's more than one. - Thanks!

#9044 Uploading from external HD does not create folders new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm trying to upload a directory (with files and subdirectories) from an external USB HD. FileZilla doesn't create the directory structure. This results in a failure of the upload. When trying to upload the same files from the local drive everything works.

I have this structure locally:

C is the local Drive, F the external USB HD.

C:/folder/file.txt F:/folder/file.txt

I have this structure remotely:

/

The action I've tried:

  1. Local F:/folder --Drag--> Remote / : fails
  2. Remote make directory folder/ and local F:/folder/file.txt --Drag--> remove /folder : works
  3. local C:/folder --Drag--> remote / : works
  4. local F:/folder/file.txt --Drag--> remote / : works

I hope this is sufficient information.

#9055 Export results from [Remote file search] dialog new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I know this has been asked for in the past - there is a reason that the DEBUG file does not provide the desired output... The DEBUG file is the step by step FTP commands that execute during a session. The [Results] frame in the [Remote file search] dialog includes the full path associated with the (filename) result in the same line - in DEBUG file the directory listing COMMAND is a completely different line in the output. My request is to add a button or right-click option to [export to csv] like function. I will add files with details...

#9058 Certificates not verified through their chain to the root CA new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I am having a similar issue with certificates signed by DigiCert. The certificate is not trusted despite it originating from a trusted CA. Other clients handle this perfectly (Transmit, Fetch, Cyberduck - even PHPStorm allows for connections over TLS using this certificate chain).

This has been confirmed on both OSX and Windows 7 running the latest Filezilla release of 3.7.3.

In Windows 7 (and maybe Vista) they introduced the recently used popup on applications. For example, if you go to Microsoft Word on the start menu, there is a little arrow to the right of it that will popup recently opened or pinned documents.

It would be nice if Filezilla would use this for recently connected to sites.

#9089 Filezilla client has troubles with Novell FTP, due to "//" handling moreinfo Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

This is a resurrection of client bug #790 (which was closed due to inactivity). I was not the person who filed that originally. I am the senior FTP support specialist with Novell Worldwide Support. I will base this report description on the older one, but will update it:

Novell's FTP server software allows one to access the files on ANY Novell file server in their directory tree, using this syntax: cwd server/volume/dir/subdir

And some Novell FTP servers will even let someone's home directory be in that format.

This feature is sometimes referred to at Novell as a "FTP Gateway" where one FTP server can give users access to an entire Directory Tree of servers. We also call it our "remote server" feature.

Novell FTP server is (to my knowledge) the only FTP server in the world to provide this feature. So admittedly, this effects only a subset of your user base. But when FileZilla (3.7.3) sees such a syntax (through pwd output), or when you enter a path into Filezilla's "remote site" field, such as "server1/volume1/path/" Filezilla often strips off the first '/' character. This seems to especially be a problem when using the QuickConnect button to start a session, rather than Site Manager. But I've had customers complain of it even when using Site Manager.

Because of this, anytime Filezille wants to reference the absolute path in a command, it references "/server1/..." instead of "server1/...". This difference causes the Novell FTP server to look for a local path (local to the FTP server) called "/server1/..." rather than access the separate host machine "server1". And thereby, it returns a '550 invalid path' error, or similar.

I would be happy to work closely with you to pursue this issue. Many of our common customer would benefit from having Filezilla know that (at least with Novell servers) it should preserve double-slash syntax rather than strip it off. Also, please note that not every Novell FTP server would be using this syntax. So it wouldn't be as simple as saying, "build every absolute path for Novell beginning with a double slash." Instead, it will be a matter of looking at what syntax is given (via PWD or via user input) and if it begins with "" preserve that rather than strip it to "/".

I will quote the following from the older bug as well, though I have not verified all of this:

Another FTP client, NCFtp (www.ncftp.com) had the same issue a few versions back, but has since been fixed. WS_FTP on Windows, Fetch and Transmit on Mac OSX, and the command line FTP program on any Mac/Linux/Windows system all work correctly with this functionality and do not have this issue.

That is not to say that all those clients fully understand and automatically correctly use the "" syntax. But in many cases, clients don't insist on referencing the absolute path as much as Filezilla does, so they will often "just work" where Filezilla doesn't.

Here's a log of a Filezilla FTP session to a Novell FTP server, demonstrating this:

#9094 Copy file new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

More often than not, I'm right-clicking on a local file in the left panel, in order to copy-paste it onto an Explorer window. The use case :

  1. local files often needs to be re-organized and we only realize it when handling them when working with FTP.
  2. in my connections many remote folders are paired with a "Default local directory", but distant files sometimes needs to head to a second local directory elsewhere, and browsing forth and back inside Filezilla is sometimes not desirable.

I'm really intuitively expecting to have this function somewhere and am often frustrated to get remembered it still doesn't exist.

Would it be possible to plan this feature in a next release ?

Besides, thanks a lot for this good software. Regards

#9103 Right-click file in queue -> Interrupt, file interrupted and queue rescanned for higher priority files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be immensely helpful if I could right-click on an active transfer and click "Interrupt". That specific file would stop, (like all files do if you right-click the queue and untick Process Queue), and the highest priority file in the queue would be started.

I have a queue downloading and the maximum number of transfers are already transferring. I add a file to the queue and set it to priority 'Highest'. The only way to get the new file downloading is to stop the whole queue processing, then restart it. I have this issue many times every time I do a big upload and restarting the queue causes all sorts of problems (eg, errors "ftpcontrolsocket.cpp(1871): Waiting for replies to skip") and overheads.

#9111 filezilla 3.7.3 on big queues missing files don't get signaled new Bug report normal FileZilla Client

#9114 Suddenly switched to "kiosk mode" reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

The logon type in all my sites has suddenly changed to "Ask Password" (they all were "Normal") and if I try to change any of them to "Normal" I get this error message:

"FileZilla is running in kiosk mode. The 'Normal' and 'Account' logontypes are not available in this mode".

Whatever the "kiosk mode" is, I haven't chosen it; I haven't done anything to use this mode. If some condition has changed that somehow requires to switch to this mode for whatever reason, I should have received a warning, together with instructions to switch back to the original mode.

The funniest thing is that Filezilla was already running and I had already connected to several sites which had "Normal" logon type, and now, within the same session, I get this error message.

Additionally, FZ is exhibiting another stupid behavior: I had a site already and open, to which connection had been lost. If I click the "refresh" button, it should either reconnect (it was still set to normal logon type when I connected) or prompt me to insert the password (since it has changed to 'ask password' in the meantime); but doing absolutely nothing is not an acceptable behavior.

#9118 utf8 and non-utf8 characters corrupt filezilla cache? new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Test case for filezilla 3.7.3

Go to: ftp://arm-filezilla@ftp.arm.beep.pl/ (password is: filezilla-project.org the access will be there for few weeks for testing)

There is structure like shown below (using lftp unix cmdline client; it uses OPTS UTF8 ON).

Some entries have proper utf8 encoding like "test_polskich_znaków" while other have cp1250 encoding ("RZ 47 Jelenia Gra").

According to https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Character_Set filezilla won't support invalid encoding. Well, that not great solution (it could always indicate that there are some files, like lftp does, so user would be aware of the problem) but this bug isn't about this.

If I enter into "test_polskich_znaków" ( http://imageshack.us/a/img6/9378/0aoc.jpg ) and then into "gfgdfg" then directory list in filezilla gets (sometimes) corrupted ( http://imageshack.us/a/img543/2641/op5b.jpg ). filezilla starts thinking that there is such weird/corrupted, second directory there along with properly encoded one. Why ? No idea but it shouldn't do that.

#9139 Why is the delay between failed login attempts limited to only 999 seconds? new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi there,

I am using FileZilla 3.7.3 and it has almost all the possible settings I'm needing, except one. I was wondering why is the delay between failed login attempts limited to 999 seconds.

When I am away from home I connect to the internet through a hotspot but the hotspot automatically disconnects me after 2 hours. I have a software that auto reconnects me every 2 hours but when I use FileZilla to send large files to my FTP site, it can last more than 2 hours, then when I get disconnected FileZilla tries to reconnect, connection succeeds as soon as my connection to the internet is up again and then FileZilla tries to resume the current upload transfer. The problem is that my FTP server (which is a Pure FTPD) works on a temporary file to store the data I'm sending to it, and Pure FTPD sometimes needs up to 20 minutes (1200 seconds) to detect that the upload has been broken and then rename the temporary file into my target file. Then if FileZilla reconnects to the server just after 999 seconds it happens that the target file is still in a temporary state, it has not been renamed into the target file yet and if the target file does not exist FileZilla will then restart the upload from zero rather than resume the transfer.

If I was able to set the delay between failed login attempts to more than only 999 seconds it would solve my problem, and therefore I was wondering if it was possible to increase this delay limitation in future versions or if there was a reason why this delay could not be more than 999 seconds.

Thank you.

#9140 "Remote tree" bug new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

After a 'Failed to retrieve directory listing' error, the 'failed' directory is highlighted in the remote tree as if the client navigated to it successfully and clicking it to try again has no effect.

It would be helpful if the highlight goes back to the current directory after this error.

When I click on the Site Manager icon, then click on any site that has "use synchronized browsing" checked, I get the error message "Current remote directory (whatever) is not below the synchronization root. Synchronized browsing has been disabled." (yes it does say "not below").

Then, if I click on the synchronized browsing toggle icon, synchronization works fine.

#9154 automatic uploading gets confused with two servers new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla client allows you to edit downloaded files and when you save the result it will ask you whether you want to upload them again.

In my case I am working with two different servers running the same software. On the local side I use the same Temp directory for both.

Now the problem

  • I started with downloading for server A and after editing it was uploaded again.
  • now I disconnected from server A and connected to server B. There I downloaded the same file (that is: a file with the same name). After editing it I was again asked whether I wanted to upload it. But according to FZ the file was then uploaded to server A. I was disconnected from it, yet I didn't get an error message. As far as I could check it was indeed uploaded to A. It certainly was not uploaded to B - what it should have been.
#9155 Additional slot to View/Edit files new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

There's an issue when one opens FileZilla 3.7.3, connects to a server, starts to download a bunch of big files (e.g. backups), and then notices a need to View/Edit a small text file (e.g. a .php or .html one).

The current choices are to either wait for one of the long already-started downloads to finish in order to View/Edit a tiny file, or to interrupt one of them. Both of these are more hassle than necessary in order to view a tiny file.

The issue can be resolved by allowing an extra download slot to be used only to View/Edit files. It would likely be enough if this extends only the concurrent downloads limit but still obeys the maximum simultaneous transfers limit. This could be added as a checkbox option in Settings > Transfers, perhaps to the right side of the "Limit for concurrent downloads" line.

#9157 Time translation from SFTP server new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When a file was retrieved from an SFTP server, the timestamp was not translated from UTC into localtime.

As SFTP specs says, the time need to be send in UTC.

uint32 atime present only if flag SSH_FILEXFER_ACMODTIME
uint32 mtime present only if flag SSH_FILEXFER_ACMODTIME

The `atime' and `mtime' contain the access and modification times of
the files, respectively. They are represented as seconds from Jan 1,
   1970 in UTC.

FileZilla client and OpenSSH server respect the RFC and send this in UTC, but i think that after atime/mtime was transferred to the client, it should be translated (by FileZilla) in a localtime.

#9261 When establish connection in new tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello, when anyone make connect in new tab for other ftp, Local file directories should reset and should show us local drives.

For example: I open FTP for website A, now choosing local drives from left... After that I open ftp for website B, now left side, it showing local directories of website A, but if you can show root drives like C,D,E,F then developers can save them by upload files of A in B mistakenly. Hope you can understand and implement this feature.

#9324 transfer rate new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Great program, thanks very much.

One feature that would be useful to me in the MESSAGE LOG (where you show the file size of each transfer and the transfer time in seconds) would be to include the transfer rate in kilobytes per second. It helps me gauge how 'fast' the session was when I download multiple files as I am often out of the office using a variety of connections, some fast, some slow.

Thanks. Dave

#9367 bulk upload new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, can you add functionality to upload files on multiple sites preselected from the list.

#9373 Remote subdirectory content not refreshed new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have found that the file lists in remote subdirectories are not refreshed when I tried to refresh the directory contents (by clicking the button on the toolbar or pressing F5). Only the remote root directory file list is refreshed. I consider this a critical problem because it confuses people when they try to download the entire directory structure from remote servers. They would think the download was successfully but in fact some files were not downloaded as expected.

Environment: client = Windows XP SP3 running Filezilla client 3.7.4.1 server = Windows XP SP3, running Filezilla server 0.9.43 beta

How to repeat:

  1. In the ftp server, create some files in the root directory, and create some subdirectories and add some files in those subdirectories
  2. In the client, connect to the server and refresh the file list.
  3. In the server, add/delete/rename some files in the root directory and in the subdirectories
  4. In the client, press F5 to refresh the file list

Observed result: The file list in the root directory correctly matches that of the ftp server. The file lists in the subdirectories do not match those of the server.

Expected result: The file lists in the root directory and the subdirectories should match the those in the ftp server after refreshing by pressing F5

#9390 Client confused trying to rename local file new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit AMD Phenom 9750 quad core processor 2.8GHz

The client is not at this time connected to a server, but it had been. The right window still shows the contents of the remote server's directory; the left window shows the contents of the current local directory. I have not refreshed either.

The local directory contains a single file, and I have verified its name using Windows Explorer. The file name is 201404_bulletin.pdf.

When I try to rename the local file from 201404_bulletin.pdf to latest-bulletin.pdf, Filezilla client pops up a Windows dialog box that says

There is not enough memory to complete this operation. 2014_03_28 Date created 3/28/2014 7:24 PM

The box does not offer any more details.

There is no file with the name 2014_03_28. That is, in fact, the name of the containing directory. I am positive that I am selecting the file, not the directory.

#9395 searching long directory listings new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be cool if there were a search box, where you could enter the first few characters of a file name, and FileZilla would scroll the directory listing to the point where those characters would be if they were in the sorted listing.

For synchronized viewing, that should happen to both directory listings; I would suggest doing it for non-synchronized viewing also, although that point is somewhat debatable. But while the directory _structures_ may not be the same, the content may well be similar, in some circumstances. An alternative for non-synchronized viewing might be to have one search box but two buttons, to search local, or search remote.

#9405 Change permission doesn't work on symlink new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, i'm using filezilla to transfer files from windows 7 to ubuntu 12.. since filezilla doesn't support auto-change permission during transfer (it's requested several times in the forums) I have to manually change the permission to 755 everytime i'm done transferring files.. Problem is i have several hdd's in my ubuntu server.. And the destination folder has several symlinks connected to different HDD's... e.g :

A

  • B
  • C
  • D (symlink to other HDD)

When i change properties of A recursively to 755, only B and C follow it. D remains unchanged..

I hope this can be changed.. It's rather troublesome to change all permissions when you have multiple HDD Or please implement auto change permission after transfer.. (I was going to request this but the forum rejects yahoo and gmail, so i couldn't register) Thanks

When I hover with the mouse over the folder structure or file overview in either local or remote site window and I scroll the mousewheel, it would be great if it the area over which I hover would scroll. And keep up the good work of this awesome program!

#9418 Edited file uploaded to previously edited file's directory new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Let's assume the following common situation, two folders having two different files' content but having the same filename: ./folder1/.htaccess ./folder2/.htaccess

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Retrieve ./folder1/.htaccess with FileZilla
  2. Edit the file
  3. Retrieve ./folder2/.htaccess and erase previous file
  4. Edit the file and confirm uploading back the file to the server

Result: the last file edited (from ./folder2/.htaccess) will unfortunately erase ./folder1/.htaccess and not the right one.

#9450 intermittent timeouts using active mode in Version 3.8.0 new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When we browse through different folder structures on different servers with FileZilla 3.8.0 using the active mode, we get intermittent timeouts after the LIST or MLSD command.

This is an example output from FileZilla, when the error occurs Befehl: LIST Antwort: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for file list Fehler: Zeitüberschreitung der Verbindung Fehler: Verzeichnisinhalt konnte nicht empfangen werden

We can reproduce this behaviour with different Windows workstations using FileZilla V.3.8.0 . One workstation did not get such errors using FileZilla V.3.7.4.1. After an update to the latest version, this pc also get these errors.

We also examined, that neither our firewall nor our FTP servers are responsible for this behaviour. A traffic capture shows, that the server answers the request and the workstation receives this answer. Then the connection is closed with FIN, ACK from from the server and ACK from the workstation. We can provide such a dump, if it is necessary.

#9457 Make Dialogue Boxes Copy-able new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I've noticed that dialogue boxes in FileZilla behaves non-standardly on Windows. Standard Windows dialogue boxes can be copied in plaintext by pressing ctrl+c with the box in focus. Doing this on a FileZilla dialogue does not copy the text.

Specifically, I attempted to do this on the verify SSH fingerprint dialogue. It looks like this https://i.imgur.com/PnQ2EnL.jpg (Just a Googled image - to illustrate the component I'm referring to).

Expected behaviour is that I can then paste the plaintext content of the dialogue into notepad, after which I can compare the fingerprint with one that I've been provided with before hand.

Actual behaviour is that it does not copy, meaning I have to manually read the fingerprint and compare it manually - leaves room for error.

The request is that dialogue boxes should behave standardly so that their contents may be copied.

Alternatively, the SSH fingerprint should be displayed in a non-editable text-box that can be copied in order to facilitate fingerprint verification.

My system: Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64, FZ 3.8.0

It's about a usability issue of an *existing* feature, so not requesting any new functionality, even though a) the fix is purely usability-related, b) it's just a nuisance, c) it may imply adding new code. (To start in the DMZ, I just create this as "Other"... :) Thanks!]

Sequence of actions (I'm nobody special, so there may be others stumbling this way):

  1. mc's ftpfs stuck again for timeout, uninterruptible. Sigh, time to divorce...
  1. apt-get install filezilla [3.8.0]
  1. Launch filezilla. [May have never used it before, or too long ago to remember; the point being: "entry-level" UI interaction.]
  1. Copy my relevant mc entry (a fully formed FTP URL, from the "hotlist" file) to Clipboard.
  1. Swith to FileZilla, find a place to paste the Clipboard cargo... Quickconnect seems tempting, but no URL field apparently there (only the well-known, familiar, classic H/U/P/... inputs). [Hmm.]
  1. There's a "Local site:", and "Remote site:" bar, below, though. "Remote site:" reads *exactly* what I'd need to paste my URL to, but it's unfortunately disabled. (And then it also appears (from subliminal clues of the overall GUI design) that it may not be meant for that anyway.) [Hmmmm...]
  1. Open the "File" menu: no "Open..." or "Open URL" [Hmmm?!]
  1. Well, then maybe "Site Manager"... [But I don't want to manage a site.] No, that seems to be designed to support URLs even less.
  1. Perhaps FileZilla doesn't even support URLs?! No, that can't possibly be true, let me double-check... Google: "filezilla url". From the results (e.g. FR #8466), I can see that support is there. [Relief #1.]
  1. Back to the FileZilla UI. So there *must* be a place to dump that itching URL. And it's hinted to be related to Quickconnect (by fragments in the Google search result summary lines), as one would anyway initially think. Perhaps the "host" field then (short of any better)? Let's try at least... Paste, then "Quickconnect"... Wow, bingo! [Relief #2.]

NOTE: I did see the nice, detailed explanation in the tooltip - but *only after* going through through all the above. Experienced users tend not to stand still hovering enough over a field for a (slowish) tooltip to appear. My type of users don't even use the mouse that much (so, little chance for a tooltip at all).

Fixes recommended:

a) Just change the "Host" label to "Host or URL" (or "Host/URL" if you also consider it an "internationally familiar" way of putting it).

Quick, easy, cheap. With the "Host/URL" form some very inexperienced users may get confused though. But these type of users will likely hit the tooltip. Or just put the less cool but more clear "Host or URL".

b) Change the "Local site:" / "Remote site:" controls. (Their *values* are not "sites" currently anyway, but *dir paths*.)

Either:

  1. Implement (a) and rename them to "Local path:" / "Remote path:" (or "...dir") accordingly, to remove confusion.

Or:

  1. Ignore (a) and
    • change the label "Local site:" to "Local path:" (keeping in mind that it's actually a relative local *URL*!), and
    • change the behavior of "Remote site:" to as of the "Host" field of Quickconnect, i.e. to accept URLs, plus (re)connect on non-relative URLs. (Also keep it enabled, not only when connected.) This (2) would be a good, intuitive solution (a step closer to the universal two-panel file manager scheme), but may probably also trigger rethinking the Quickconnect UI concept, screen layout etc., so it's not "free".

c) Add an "Open URL" command to the File menu, to do exactly the same as Quickconnect with an URL supplied in the "Host" field.

(With just a *simple* one-field popup, even if that may not feel like a perfect fit with the current "one-omnipotent-window" design. This slight redundancy may still be better than the immediate impression of a missing feature, or a missing natural path to an existing (and possibly very common) feature.)

[Thanks a lot for your patience, and all the best to you there, thanks again! Where can I send the bill of $100 for the analysis please? ;) ]

#9546 least-recently-used entry (instead of oldest entry) should be removed from quickconnect recent servers list when entry limit is reached new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

it would be helpful if, upon selecting from the quickconnect dropdown list of recent servers, the selected server were moved back to the top of the list. this would ensure that a server which the user is still actively using remains on the list, and only the server which has not been used the longest gets removed when a new server is added.

#9563 Multi-User Citrix environment does not allow multiple users to use FileZilla new Other normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, we have installed FileZilla in our citrix environment and need a minimum of 100 users to have access to SFTP files from a secured network to another location on t he same SAM (unsecure) we are using ZFTP as the server. At the moment only one user can use the FileZilla client as when another one tries to use the FileZilla client and error advises that the application is in use. Is there a setting or a way multiple users can concurrentky use this client ?

#9568 File exists action: Option to rename existing file, if duplicate uploaded new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi there at Filezilla,

it would be nice to have an option to rename the existing file rather then the one being uploaded in the "File exists action" preferences.

Use case: I upload a modified .php file, but would like to keep the old version of that file for reference/backup.

At the moment to do this I have to rename the existing file by hand, which is rather tedious. Maybe the overwritten file could be named existing file name + the time and date when it was overwritten. Otherwise I guess just .backup or whatever will do. Thanks, Sascha

#9570 Apply to current queue - apply to current operation new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

When downloading a complex website with lots of files and directories if overwriting a copy on your local machine.

Ticking "apply to current queue only" to overwrite only applies to the current files listed in the queue ignoring all the files that haven't yet been queued within the same operation.

Please add a way to apply this action to the whole operation (i.e. the whole download operation) therefore it can be left to download the site in the background.

#9574 Add bookmarks to site manager quick selection drop down new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I love the feature to add bookmarks for a site so I can go to different folders for the same server and only have to update my password in one place, but I cannot quick select the bookmark like I can for sites. I either have to open the site manager dialog, or connect to the site, then go to a bookmark from that menu option.

#9583 Make an app bundle also when GTK is used on Mac new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Users of MacPorts asked for a bundled app of FileZilla (FileZilla.app) in addition to command-line binaries also when wxGTK is used.

There is currently

  # Create application bundle on OS X
if echo $WX_CPPFLAGS | grep __WXMAC__; then
    macappbundle="yes"
  else
    macappbundle="no"
  fi

but this doesn't build the bundle when wxGTK is used.

I'm aware that this is a slightly weird request (most users would probably use Cocoa anyway), but in case that it is easy enough for you to add an option to the building scripts to make a bundle also when GTK is used, we would be grateful.

I can help with testing. (It would probably make most sense if making an app would be a configure-time option or a make target – even better as that wouldn't require reconfiguring everything.)

Otherwise assembling the bundle manually takes a bit of effort.

#9641 move directory not behaving as expected when destination directory contains like-named directory new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When moving a directory to a destination directory which contains a like-named directory, the directory you intend to move is placed inside the like-named directory instead of being merged with it.

#9666 sync browsing on, uploading the directory that you are in becomes subdir new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

1.sync browsing on 2.connect 3.dig into a subfolder, just 1 is fine, any will do. 4.right click on the folder you are currently in on the local side and upload it

actual: it will become a subdirectory copy underneath the current directory on the remote side. so now you have 2 copies of the dir tree, one inside itself.

expected: should have uploaded the same directory and replaced any files that were existing and added any new dirs, touched or copied dir dates as appropriate because they were being accessed. it's almost like a replace, but you don't lose files in this kind of replace. essentially, files with same name get replaced. new files get added. I don't know if a replace does this or not. probably does.

#9675 set to use system default date format, but not correct date display in client file list accepted Tim Kosse Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have just updated FZ client to new version, noticed that the date format has changed to mm/dd/yy. Before update this was dd/mm/yy as per system settings (UK, Windows 8, 64-bit). Checked the setting in Filezilla and the default is selected (use system default). It seems this is being ignored.

#9681 Interface is right-to-left while language is English new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla just updated itself to the latest version (3.9.0.1) and when it restarted I've found the interface is around (see screenshot). This did not happen on the previous version.

I guess it is because my Windows' location is set to Israel which has a right-to-left language setting, so it messed up the interface.

I have a global environment variable LC_ALL set to en-US for things like GIMP but it doesn't seem to be a solution for FileZilla.

I only have English as the language of choice installed in FileZilla.

#9687 Failed to transfer files from ftp <-> directory (windows) vice versa directly new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

The latest version of FileZilla (3.9.0.1) seems can't copy or transfer file from windows directory to server directly, drag a file from windows explorer instead of local tree (the left side of filezilla) has no use at all. It's too not convenient if can only transfer via the left side of filezilla since we need to find the directory path every time we want transfer a file.

#9690 Numpad Enter not working as file upload new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

You can no longer use the numpad enter button to initiate a file transfer. You can use the numpad enter button to confirm a file transfer though.

#9704 File associations and stop working properly after update to 3.9.0.1 new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

After updating to 3.9.0.1 I could no longer view/edit certain file types which previously had proper filetype associations. I went into filetype associations to add them in again. when adding: filetype "/Applications/Sublime Text.app" I would get the error "Cannot find application "/Application/Sublime " There was essentially no way for me to View/Edit files on a server and therefore I reverted back to the older version I had installed, 3.8.1 where everything was working fine before I re-added the filetype associations that seemed to have gone missing, checked that they worked, and then re-installed 3.9.0.1. Now I can view/edit most files I need but it still won't allow me to add Sublime text within the custom filetype associations.

#9722 Right-Click drag/drop for file copy does not work as expected new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Open FileZilla to an existing site. Local site is on left as a folder in Windows C: drive file system. Remote site is on right. From a Windows Explorer window, attempt to copy a file from an arbitrary folder on the local drive to the Local Site folder by drag and dropping into the file list in FileZilla on the Local Site side. The Windows default is to Move, not Copy, for drag/drop on the same drive. The common technique for achieving the non-default operation (in this case copy), is to drag with a right mouse click. This works between Explorer windows and folders, but does not work with FileZilla. Right-click-dragging a file into the Local Site folder on the same drive results in the "Move file" dialog (incorrect), not the "Copy File" dialog (expected).

Workaround is to open an additional Windows Explorer window to the same folder as the Local Site in FileZilla. Then right-click-drag-drop of the file to the local site results in a context menu offering the choice of Move here, Copy here, or Create Shortcut here.

#9729 All views aligned to right new Bug report normal FileZilla Client

#9749 SFTP never disconnects from server new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When connecting to the server using SFTP, the following two processes are created on the server:

UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD username 23563 23560 0 19:16 ? 00:00:00 sshd: username@notty username 23564 23563 0 19:16 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/openssh/sftp-server

They remain active even after the connection closes (ie: disconnecting from FileZilla or closing FileZilla). The next time a new connection is invoked, those two processes are recreated, until they clog the process list.

Tested with FileZilla 3.9.0.2, on two Linux servers, one is CentOS 6.5, the other is Debian 6.0.6.

Using Cyberduck on the same machines, the processes disappear immediately when disconnecting.

#9809 Cancel/Disconnect buttons don't stop file/folder transfer moreinfo_accepted Stephen L'Allier Patch normal FileZilla Client
Description

I accidentally dragged over the wrong folder to transfer to my computer (huge number of files and folders in it), and I clicked the Cancel button (red flag with X in it) but it did nothing, then I clicked the Disconnect button (mouse with X over it), and the files kept transferring. I had to close FileZilla to get it to stop (which thankfully stopped the process).

Are these buttons not actually supposed to cancel a transfer or disconnect from the server? If I'm not using it contextually correctly, what exactly is the "current" server it refers to if they're highlighted? I was actually only connected to one server at the time.
