Do you still experience this issue after updating to a more recent version of macOS?

I don't have the possibility to upgrade.
But my os matches the requirements : "Requires macOS 10.13.2 or newer" ;-)
I tried to downgrade to 3.60.2 but impossible to prevent filezilla to download latest version each time I launch it...

I think it should be simple to solve because, as you can see on this screenshot, there is no problem before first connection

Black Background Bug

This happens for me as well on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 (can't update to a newer OS version in my Mac Mini).

It's happened in the latest two versions of FileZilla I've tried (latest being 3.63.1).

I'm attaching an screenshot (see above).

Most unfortunate. I suppose support for macOS 10.13.x needs to be dropped at some point soon.

comment:9 by Tim Kosse, 23 months ago

I don't even have hardware old enough to run High Sierra.

comment:10 by leanewg, 23 months ago

I think an acceptable solution would be :

  • new special version for 10.13.x users based on 3.60.2 which doesn't search for new update at each startup
  • only then 10.13.x support drop

or a solution to prevent filezilla 3.60.2 to download latest version each time I launch it...

comment:12 by Octavio, 23 months ago

Thanks for mentioning 3.60.2, @leanewg. Is that the latest version without the bug?

comment:13 by Octavio, 23 months ago

BTW, these newer versions ALSO have a really annoying extra bug which is actually a regression, because 3.60.2 doesn't have this problem, which happened in versions from years ago.

In the very latest versions of FileZilla, the keys Cmd+A and Cmd+C behave again in obnoxious ways: Cmd+C creates a new folder instead of copying, which takes you out of the FTP you were trying to edit, and Cmd+A CLOSES the window with no explanation, taking you also out of what you were working on. It's really annoying!

This is a different bug, which I already added some comments on in the relevant tickets in this site. Apologies if I did come across as a bit rude, but it's really frustrating to have the app "boycott" you while trying to get actual work done.

Thanks for reading.

Another problem: If I go to Options > Updates and set the "Check for FileZilla updates automatically" dropdown to "Never", it still informs me of new versions each time FileZilla is started. Isn't that a bug? It should not say anything about newer versions if I select "Never".

At least it doesn't install the update automatically, it just downloads it.

But still, please fix this. I hate forced updates, like Windows tends to do, especially if the forced update contains 2 bugs that the older version didn't have.

Please don't muddle issues together. One ticket one bug. Everything else is irrelevant.

comment:16 by Octavio, 23 months ago

You're right, though the latest message about updates was somewhat relevant in the sense that if you're not going to fix the problem for High Sierra users, we're stuck with an old version, so it'd be good to avoid the app downloading and showing dialog windows about new updates.
Thanks for your work on FileZilla throughout the years!

Tomorrow, please try the 2023-02-17 nightly build from https://filezilla-project.org/nightly.php

Thanks trying to find a solution.

Unfortunately, same problem with the 2023-02-17 nightly build.
