Filezilla won't delete entire directories with subfolders.

Filezilla will go through every directory and delete all of the files but not folders.

According to the log the folder the directory was removed successfully but its lying! :) If I run the same command through SmartFTP using the same FTP account the folder is deleted.

i searched for solutions on how to fix this error but i'm not sure why i'm still getting this.. i also tried uninstalling FileZilla app and installing it again but alas, still no luck i really need some help in this.

I can not see .jar files on the server that i am connected to. i can only see the folders and the files that are inside of them.

Ever since I started using Filezilla I can't remember how long ago, it has failed to draw the window in exactly the same way in every subsequent release. I am now taking the time to file this ticket because it is becoming a nuisance

I keep getting disconnected from my server right after I upload something. Even after a few seconds. I've talked to my hosting company and they have raised the inactivity time limit to 15 minutes and I still get disconnected from the server after just a few seconds. So everytime I upload something I have to reconnect to upload something else. The host company told me this is a FileZilla issue and I have to ask you for help and not them. I've included a sample of the error log from the last time I got disconnetced below. Please let me know if there is somethign I can do to stay connected to the server after I upload something. I've been testing in two Linux and two Windows systems on the same internet line. Everything works OK in Windows and even in Linux if running the Windows version of Filezilla through Wine!

The problem with the Linux version of Filezilla is, when connected to a FTPES server and trying to upload a file, it is uploading only around half a second, then it stops, timeouts, reconnects, continues the upload again for around half a seconds, timeouts, etc.

Sometimes if inactive for like a minute or two, it gives "425 Unable to build data connection: Operation not permitted" error, when trying to refresh.

Downloading seems OK.

Tested versions: 3.3.5.1, 3.5.1, 3.5.2-rc1.

Downloaded 3.5.2_i686-apple-darwin9.app from FileZilla-project.org. Upon attempt to open the app received the message: "You can't open the application FileZilla_3.5.2-i686-apple-darwin9.app because it may be damaged or incomplete."

I searched the bug reports and forum for this problem and only found on the forum to compare the checksum of the file with that of the FileZilla Project checksum.

I'm currently running 3.5.1 and it works fine so I tried to download 3.5.1 and got the same message when I tried to open it.

When moving an entry with the mouse, the list should scroll on reaching the upper or lower boundary. At the moment, it is not possible to reach folders that are out of sight in case there are many entries.

Open filezilla client and create a connection to a ftp server for downloading a big file. Then I switch the other window and switch back. The toolbar disappears. When mouse focous on the button's position the buttons appear again. But the other area remain the same. This situation occours sometime.

We had created a new SFTP username and password for one of our servers and although the login was tested and worked with WinSCP, it returned an authentication failure using FileZilla.

The password's last character was a pound sign (£) and on the suspicion that it might be causing a problem, we removed that last character. The login then worked correctly on both WinSCP and FileZilla.

I've looked around the FileZilla wiki but can't find mention of non-alphanumeric characters in passwords with are likely to cause problems. Any information would be appreciated.

FileZilla Client sends a TLSv1.2 (RFC 5246) ClientHello. TLSv1.2 requires servers to accept a Signature Algorithms extension on a ClientHello message, and gives the client the option to omit it if it desires the default (usually SHA1/RSA--see the RFC). FileZilla (using GnuTLS) is sending only one Signature Algorithms extension value--SHA512/RSA (6/1). This will cause a TLSV1.2 aware server to reject the ClientHello if it does not posses a SHA512/RSA signed certificate. Originally I thought this was a GnuTLS problem, so I sent this e-mail to them:

"Hello, I have been working on the implementation of the TLS 1.2 protocol. TLS 1.2 requires servers to handle the Signature Algorithms extension to the ClientHello handshake message. My reading of RFC 5246 (7.4.1.4.1.) indicates that if client presents the extension (it can be omitted) it should include all hash/signature algorithm pairs the client is willing to process. While running the latest version of FileZilla, which uses GnuTLS 2.10.4, the only proposed Signature Algorithm is {SHA512,RSA}. If I stick with the RFC, the handshake will fail, as my {SHA1,RSA} signed certificate is not in the list. I’m not saying Microsoft is always right (in this case I think they are), but IE8/Win7 sends 7 Signature Algorithms in the extension: {SHA256,RSA},{SHA384,RSA},{SHA1,RSA},{SHA256,ECDSA},{SHA384,ECDSA},{SHA1,ECDSA},{SHA1,DSA}."

The response I received from the GnuTLS developers was this:

"Hello, This is a configuration issue. Filezilla for some reason unknown to me only enables 256-bit ciphersuites and signature algorithms. If you use gnutls-cli with your server you'll see that gnutls sends all options."

When I transfer a pdf file via FZ, the file will not work. When I try to open the file online, the following message is received: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'VRHUGW+TT15Ct00'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." After this, everything freezes. When I click okay on the dialog box, the file continues to load and only the header text is garbled. If I use DreamWeaver as FTP for the file everything works fine. Using WinMerge to compare the files says they are identical, yet the one transferred by FZ won't open correctly and the one transferred by DW does open correctly. This only started happening about two months ago. I can upload a copy and give you a link to it so that you can see the behavior if necessary, it is very repeatable.

When you drag content from FTP server to local folder, FileZilla crashes. This works on Windows 7, but on Ubuntu FileZilla client crashes.

logged in to an FTP server file was write only (permissions 200) I tried to download it but the transfer failed then I changed permission to 600 (added read) right clicked and said view/edit default editor is notepad.exe

filezilla locked up for about umm.... 5 minutes? 10 minutes? I feel like when the connection was dropped filezilla unfroze but I can't say. Also, after 5 minutes or so I received some error from notepad but I don't recall what it said. sorry.

I don't recall prior versions of FileZilla having this problem, but I can't be sure. (I just find it hard to believe I've never tried to upload an open file before, accidentally or on purpose.)

Suggestions: ============ -Error should be specific about why it can't upload the file (i.e. file open.) -Error should ask if you want to retry. -Error should only occur a maximum number of retries, either set or specified in the preferences.

I can log into my server of choice using the same password using a different client, but trying to with FineZilla gets me: Response: 331 Password required for riwebserver Command: PASS Response: 530 Login incorrect. Error: Critical error Error: Could not connect to server

Now I know the password is correct. I just used it to log in via another client.

I use Filezilla few years. And for these years you still didn't fix this annoying bug: I use layout: Widescreen I use Position of a message log: Above the file list. I use Windows 7 and Windows XP (bug is visible on both). With these settings 'Quickconnect bar' is not refreshed properly during use when new messages are arriving to log (see screen attached, it is hardly visible in the screen, log messages overwrites it). This gives bad GUI experience to the user.

Recently i have upgrade my proftpd server to last release (1.3.4a) on AIX servers (6.1) and filezilla client even at the last release (3.5.3) on Windows does not reconize anymore the symlinks. It happens only with filezilla clients. All other clients i have (standard ftp windows, standard ftp client on AIX) works perfectly but i'd rather filzilla for my customer because it's a very good client ! But now the symlinks are displayed as files and not as directories and we can not go into the symlinks. Mays be this issue is a combination of proftpd last release and filezilla but now i'am block. Any ideas would be very appreciated. Thanks for your support. Nicolas

When using the custom time format %H:%M:%S%P, the resulting Last modified column is blank. However, when using custom %H:%M:%S, the correct data/time is listed, without the am/pm.

I haven't tried other custom time settings because the %P option is the only of interest to me.

sftp authentication worked well until including version 3.5.0. Later versions ignore pageant, they just recognize plain key files.

I tested it with the latest version 3.5.3 on a 64-bit Win7 system and Pageant Release 0.60.

Using the same transparent proxy. Firefox 10.0.2 works ok, but Filezilla 3.5.3 don't. Or in other words, Firefox list ok the directory, but Filezilla do not.

Whenever I try to replace my index.html file and attached folders and such from updated ones in my documents folder, they don't overwrite.

The overwrite window gets brought up, I always pick: "Overwrite", and it doesn't replace it because the file size stays how it was before the file transfer.

I've tried uploading it to the root folder and then moving to the public_html folder but nothing works. Actually what I've noticed is that initially when it's uploaded, for a split second, it replaces, then the file size goes back to normal.

Even removing the index.html file and going to the site in my browser still seems as though the index file is still uploaded when it's not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to download files and after 5 minutes connection is aborted. The files are about 1.5 GB. Previously the time estimate was 1.5 hours. Now it is over 8. This has been going on for about week. Possibly occuring after the leatest version was downloaded.

With an account I connect to via SFTP, which has a section sign (§) in its password, I can not authenticate. If I remove just that single character from the password, it works though.

Authentication and usage works with other Client WinSCP; so it is very probably an issue of FileZilla.

Every time I tried to upload a file from the Local Site (my usb or local hard drive) to the Remote Site I have been denied access. Up until a couple months ago, this was never a problem and then one day the FileZilla client denied me access. It has been this way ever since then. I have tried downloading the client onto other computers and tried uploading from there. I am the only one who accesses FileZilla.

I checked the permissions of the remote file and when I checked the properties, the settings is on "777" but I'm still not allowed to move any local files into the remote files. Thoughts on how to proceed?

Hello, i have a bug which i have to admit, is annoying me alot!

When my server disconnects me after inactivity (SFTP connection) i get the "Status: Disconnected from server" and all, but if i then click on a file or folder, such as ".." it will go to "Command: cd ".."" and not first reconnect to the server and then go to that folder.

A temporary fix is to press "Disconnect from current server" button, then press it again.

When doing drag & drop upload / download(i.e. from the left file list to right file list or vice versa) in Mint Linux 12, Cinnamon 1.4, a segmentation fault is thrown and the application crashed.

On three occasions now I have gotten into a supposed drag state in the server tab with no intention and no cue (that I noticed) that I was in that state. The first time a whole document root and thus its site "disappeared" for a while. After finding it, I assumed I must indeed have dragged it into the adjacent folder in haste with a sloppy-slidy click or double-click, because I was rushing half an hour before a big demo.

But now I see it is possible somehow to unknowingly initiate a drag state (by sloppy click?), then scroll around for a while (many seconds) with no mouse button held, then click on a folder and Filezilla "drops" or attempts to drop the folder it thought you were dragging. At least in the server tab. I'm reluctant to experiment too much with trying to duplicate this.

I haven't been experiencing this in any other application.

It's dangerous enough that I looked all around for an option to disable dragging of files or folders in Filezilla but apparently it can't be disabled.

I really like FZ but now I'm very nervous I'll damage a site again without noticing. This third time, the only reason it didn't happen was because the folder I clicked was a subfolder of -- again -- the document root. A less obvious moved folder could go unnoticed.

Filezilla version: 3.5.3

I am connecting to two server over LAN. When I queue and process file downloads from both servers concurrently in a FZ client session, the client freezes and must be force-closed.

The servers are slightly unusual in that they are embedded servers in Topcon GPS receivers. The server software enforces a strict limit of one connection per receiver. I have configured this limitation in the Site Manager (Limit Number of Simultaneous Connections = 1).

If a subsequent connection is attempted, the receiver will return a 530 error message and disconnect. This behavior has been observed using Topcon NetG3A receivers as well as Topcon GB1000.

I have tried this using multiple client PCs (Asus netbooks, Dell desktops, laptops) using various operating systems from Vista to XP to Windows 7.

By contrast, if I open two separate filezilla client instances, and start a concurrent queue of downloads in each of these separate filezilla instances, the downloads work just fine. So this seems to point to some kind of race condition, or perhaps a connection isn't getting closed in the right order, when downloading within the same filezilla instance.

Toolbar disappears after site connection.. I toggle "Toolbar" and it reappears..

After 2 days of repairing a hacking attack to some of my Internet-Domains I found out that filezilla stores my passwords in plain text by default. So I try to avoid this for future now. I found out that there is a Setting "Kiosk Mode" to control this behaviour. But when I try to set Kiosk Mode to 1 or 2 instead of 0, my Client seems to ignore this setting. I uninstalled the old version of Filezilla. I installed the current version Filezilla 3.5.3 from scratch Same behaviour.

Do you have any idea, what I could do else to make working my filezilla-client installation accepting my overridings of the default-settings (especially this hacker-friendly password-default-option) by using my fzdefaults.xml, which I located in .../Documents and Settings/<username>/Application Data/Filezilla/ ?

Like other users, I cannot delete files using a Mac. "Files" are files added from the left hand part of the FileZilla screen (which shows my folders and my desktop, including all the files I want to build into the website) by dragging and dropping them into the right hand part of the screen after I've chosen the specific place I want to save them (in my case, a file called "NewTest" in "Public HTML". (FileZilla doesn't give this screen a name; it's the one that has username, password, and port on the top.)

In the course of the project, we have uploaded various files from preliminary versions of the website we're building. They have served their purpose, and leaving them on the system will now cause only chaos and confusion. So they need to be deleted, and then replaced by newer files.

Now, I am working with a html/web guru who uses a Windows machine, and she deletes files from FileZilla very easily, by highlighting them and pressing the delete key.

That, however, does NOT work with my Mac (a MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.5.8) and a Safari browser. At this URL

another Filezilla user reports the same problem with their Mac, and their experience is the same as my own. In fact, I ran down the same list of possibiliities and workarounds, and none of them work.

Highlighting and pressing delete does NOT delete FileZilla files with a Mac.

1. Can you tell me how to delete files using a Mac?
2. I will have to migrate to another company if FileZilla can't solve the problem. Of course, I'd rather not do that, but we can't work with a non-functional server.

I am a total noob, please help, Filezilla was setup for me and I have used it without problems for some months.

I followed a promp to upgrade to 3.5.3 from 3.5.2, As it said none of my settings would be altered I thought it would be fine.

Now when i go to log onto a server I get an error saying.....

I have found my settings for the server, port, port, login, password etc and they are all fine.

I've updated a local file and even after hitting f5, right click and 'refresh' and closing and reopening filezilla, it's caching the old version of the file. I've checked in file explorer and it's seeing the new version, but filezilla is trapped in the past!

The only way I can upload my new file is to save it in a different location on my harddrive and then upload it.

Annoyance level bug. I connect from a machine in PDT Timezone, to a server (Linux, CentOS) in same PDT Timezone. FileZilla shows my times are an hour different. Both machines report they are PDT. For some reason, I can see at the beginning of the session this calculation (which is wrong):

Generally happy with FZ (3.5.3) but I get random corruptions on upload of PHP files to server - and then even if I delete the server file and re-upload it is still corrupt. Using another technique - eg uploading via the server's cPanel File Manager - and it works OK

After no problems for years using FZ daily, over the past 2 weeks I've had consistent problems downloading files using SFTP/SSH from my shared hostgator server. During batch downloading, it always downloads a few files, then posts the "software causing abort" (or words to that effect) during about the 4th file.

Happens every time now over past 2 weeks. Never happened in the past.

If the setting for Connection/Generic Proxy/Proxy Host has a trailing space, FileZilla does not connect. Similar to #1054.

Failure log:

Working once proxy name fixed:

Of course there may be other parameters as well that don't strip trailing spaces. It's a minor issue, but took quite a while to diagnose.

File is not visible

The file is not locked and it is displayed in the GUI of the server as well as in other file explorer when the memory is moved from the server to a computer. With FileZilla the folder that contents the not shown file can not be deleted but the folder can be moved including the invisible file. After moving the folder the file is still invisible in FileZilla.

With a previous version of filezilla we have at work, I can do what I want. Now with this one from home I can't... The deal is to send windows files to a z/VM mainframe. The target is BFS file architecture.

Folder on a FTP Server with äöü/ÄÖÜ (German umlaut) in Foldername aren't shown on FileZilla Client 3.5.3 for Mac. I tried the Windows FileZilla Client 3.5.3 and recognized, that there is no bug. It Is only a Bug at the Mac Version 3.5.3.

I've been trying to get FileZilla (v.3.5.3) through to tripod.com in order to upload my files to my website located there (​http://australianart.tripod.com/). Tripod assert, over and over, that they can ftp access my website without any problems from their end. However I cannot access my website and have been trying for over 3 weeks now without success and always with the below-listed error message:

Hi, we have been using Filezilla FTP for 12 mths with no problems. It was last used successfully Tues 18 September to upload my bridge club Mornington BC results. I have not been able to connect since then, despite repeated attempts. We have the latest version of Filezilla. Can you help? I have attached a phot of the screen with the error.

I have noticed that I cannot depend upon Filezilla to upload files reliably. I just spent an hour with GoDaddy technical support to discover that even though my FileZilla upload screen showed (RH panel)that files were being uploaded, that they were in fact noton the destination server.

I verified this with GoDaddy's FTP program and also the CoffeeCup FTP program

When a folder has more than 10,000 files FileZilla count and list them to 9,998 files after that file are not counted and showed.

I've facing problem like connection refused by server from downloaded filezilla client..... Filezilla is essentially for my day to day work activities to be get ftp download/upload file from ISP server...

as per below error is coming since download, kindly give support to me to clear this issues ...

Can't download an empty file from the FTP server to my local computer. Using Filezilla 3.5.3

I have a ftp server (vsftpd) on a Amazon Web Services EC2 virtual machine in a production environment. It's behind a Load Balancer, I access it using filezilla in passive mode for datas (vsftpd is configured to give the direct ip instead of using the load balancer for datas). Data and control channel thus have different ips. I use classic ftp (no ssl or whatever).

After exactly 60 seconds of transfer (upload or download, juste big enough to last more than 60seconds) i get a "server closed connection" error, for any version of filezilla (>=3) that didnt segfault i tried. But VSFTPD never actually closed the connection...

I looked into filezilla source code, the problem seems to come around in src/engine/ftpcontrolsocket.cpp. There is a control that seems to provoke the bug in CFtpControlSocket::OnReceive... By commenting it the problem disappear

the transfers stall a few seconds in the end of the transfer (it might be this test purpose) but i dont lose my connexion and the file transfered is ok.

Without the ELB (using the same ip for control and data) i dont get the initial problem.

I dont think this a good fix, but it does fix the problem for me.

Hello. when i open a ftp and make the program idle for a minute or so, then it cant refresh, edit, delete, rename the files(but it accepts new uploads!). it says a command (for exapmle): CWD myfolder

and freezes. i have to re-login to website to be able to continue working with my ftp. i have changed options from preferences (made the disconnect period 1000 minutes), but it doesnt work.
