I am not able to auto connect to a site.

In the past when I opened FileZilla, it would automatically connect to a site. But now it doesn't and I have to go into the Site Manager to connect.

Opening the client software I was notified that there is an update available. I clicked the button to install the update and was walked through a series of popups. The client seems to download a file, but in the end I am notified:

I would very much like to see an auto upload folder. This would be a folder monitored by the FileZilla Client for any change. Once a new file was added it would be uploaded based on auto upload configurations.

It would be really great if FileZilla would automatically change to a defined local folder when connecting to a bookmarked server. This is especially useful if one maintains several different websites. The folder could ideally be set in the Site Manager.

I have a linux ftp server, and some files on it has the name contain chars like ":". This is valid in linux. But when I run FileZilla on windows, and try to download it, FileZilla just reports: "Error: Failed to open "D:\My Documents\a:b" for writing" because ":" is not allowed in windows filenames. Please implement a auto rename option.

I'm using your FTP client to upload 10gb+ folders to my Google Cloud, and yes, I'm doing it during night time, when the energy cost is lower.

I'm using a low speed connection and I cannot add many such folders to the upload queue since every uploaded folder is getting saved on external HDD's the next day.

My solution to this problem is in the title. Please add the option (something similar to the video encoding software) to turn off the computer when the upload is finished and to save the log file so that I could check the next day if there are some failed transfers. It would be even better if the FileZilla client would "remember" the failed transfers and automatically retry everything as soon as I restart the Client.

I hope someone is actually reading this request before deleting it for bad formatting.

Every time we need new installation we need old data and settings from File Zilla. If we connect our software with Google mail we can sync data so that next we have to log in only to get data from our system. We can use this feature on all of the operating systems!

Currently running on Windows XP Pro SP2, FileZilla 3.0.0-beta2

I was running the beta1 version and it told me the beta2 release was out. After following the prompts, it auto downloaded beta2, but left the current FileZilla instance running while it tried to install beta2. This causes a file is in use error. The way around it was for me to manually shutdown the running instance, and then continue where the install worked fine after that.

I would have expected the installer to close the running instance, install the new version, then open the new version to avoid the file system errors.

Hello, could you create this simple feature? Just replace upload dialog with direct upload without prompt?

I tried to find how to do it, but no luck. I am surprised.

I build webpages and have to update them to the server to test them. If the option is selected, the client would regularly poll the files (date/time) in the current directory and compare it against the remote directory (date/time). If the file on the client is newer, it would auto send the file to the server. Thus you could just save a webpage, and not have to do anything with FileZilla to get it to update. When a new file is saved to the local directory, or any other change occurs, FileZilla should automatically refresh the local directory view so that you can easily switch to FileZilla from what you were doing and work with uploading new files etc from the directory without having to manually refresh it every time.

I may be wrong but I believe this is what was included as a patch by Chen-hsiu Huang in FileZilla 2 on 2005-02-21, as FileZilla 2 had this functionality but I have yet to see it implemented in FileZilla 3.

The auto-upgrader from Windows 3.1.0.1 to 3.1.1.1 attempted to close running instances of Filezilla to complete the install. It closed one but I had multiple instances open so it failed and I had to manually close the others to continue the install.

Problem:

Download an entire folder from the remote site. Rename the folder locally. Edit a file within the local folder. A message pops up in Filezilla offering to upload it back to the server. But because the folder name has changed, it uploads it to the wrong place.

It seems sometimes the file is uploaded into the root, and sometimes into the first folder that exists on the remote site.

Ideally it should offer to create a folder with the same name on the remote site.

Can you implement the AutoRename feature of CuteFTP?

In CuteFTP you can set "Preserve Case", "Force Uppercase" and "Force Lowercase" for each FTP site seperately.

Check Box - Add IP Address to IP Filter.

Add a check box to the Autoban setting, after and IP address has failed more then ## of attempts it would then be added to the IP Filter. By adding the Check box, it could be turned on/off at will. We only allow our application to run on the FTP with a predefine password. I'm always seeing someone trying to hack into our servers and with this I can ban these IP Address. If a user has a problem, then I can deal with it as needed. The Autoban works great, but I don't want an IP address coming back in 999 hours to try and hack it again over and over which I have seen.

It would be very nice to be able to see a list of users (IP addresses) that have been autobanned and the time when the ban will expire.

On that list page it would be nice to white list or release a "ban" manually instead of waiting for the ban time period to expire.

Lower priority it would be nice from the same list page to permenantly ban a user/ip address if desired.

The issue is in the SFTP Authentication. If someone wants to authenticate with a public key or a password, the Server logs at first a failed authentication and then a succesfull one. This example is with password authentication:

If one uses a public key, it would be the same except the type is 3. This authentication attempt will count as one failed login attempt, even tho the auth ended beeing successful.

Assuming that one configured AutoBan with 2 failed login attempts, its very likely that on the next Login Attempt (like uploading/downloading a File) will trigger AutoBan since the authentication will be the exact same.

Therefore either an authentication attempt like this should either count as successfull or after a successfully login attempt it should reset the AutoBan Counter

I just tried a little bit with Hydra to brute force my logins. With IPv4, the autoban feature works: After 10 login attempts the IPv4 address is blocked. However, with IPv6, this feature does NOT work. FileZilla Server says the following in its logs: "421 Temporarily banned for too many failed login attempts" But it still processes new incoming connections!

Let's start with the example.

I have enabled autoban so it bans an IP after 15 failed attempts within 1 hour; a ban lasts for 1 hour. There is this client (single IP) regularly connecting to the server about once every half hour to check for files to download; they use 4 different accounts.

Recently, one of the accounts being used was deleted, but the other side didn't get around to turning off their checks for that account. So every half hour or so, there are 3 successful logins and 1 failed login.

The problem (besides the obvious: that they need to stop using the deleted account) is that every 7.5 hours, their IP gets banned for an hour, blocking the other 3 accounts.

So instead of getting banned if an IP fails 15 times in an hour, they eventually get banned if they fail at all within a consecutive set of "ban for" timespans. Or, with an alternate scenario, if the settings were to ban after 10 failed attempts and they get banned for 999 hours, an IP that had 10 failed login attempts in under ~41 days would get autobanned (for ~41 days).

(Tangent/Off-topic: No, I'm not implicitly asking that the autoban counter get reset with a successful login attempt.)

In RegisterAttempt(), when an IP is already in the list, it simply increments the count and resets the timestamp (assuming the max hasn't been reached yet). And down in PurgeOutdated() it only checks that the latest timestamp is within the configured number of hours to ban in order to keep it from being purged. Which means there's no way the code could be doing what the UI promises.

On a tangent, considering the changes to the file over the past decade, this could possibly be the same issue vaguely described in ticket #1369, but I really can't tell since there's not enough information in the description. Though considering the description in #4203, that person's walking a tight-rope. :)

When the server put a "421 There are too many connections from your internet address" error, detect how many connections are open and auto limit number of connections

I need to automate backups to a remote server. I am using the SSL/TLS support which will not allow me to use the regular command prompt. What command client do you recommend to use with FileZilla Server that connects through FTPS and accepts certificates automatically from the server.

I am making this request to be considered for implementation in future versions. Could there be a manager similar to the existing Site Manager that would allow for synchronization tasks? After making several updates to a site, I usually open the site from site manager, browse to the correct dir in both local and server windows, and highlight and drag all the files from the local window to the server window. Then upon the request for overwrite, I select, "Overwrite if different size or source newer" and check the "Always use this option" and "Apply to current queue only". It would be a great time saver if a single click could perform all of that automatically after being configured once.

Hello, when using the Automatic Transfer Mode FileZilla corrupts *.jar % *.rar files with no extension. I think FileZilla removed the CR (only one was present). He tried to repair things where no repair was needed. Using the Binary Transfer Mode fixes this.

The Automatic Update feature fails to save the downloaded setup if you specify a name other than it's original name and/or if you try to save it to a folddeer other than the default folder(Tried all combinations).

I don't have a lot of experience with the update log that Filezilla generates but, at a glance, it seems to indicate a successfull download (i have included the last download attempt log for review).

Hey there, I am a web developer, and use FileZilla to upload edits to live sites. It would greatly help my productivity if FileZilla had a function that would automatically check for updates to my edits (from the View/Edit context menu item) and automatically update them, giving me a simple notification when it has done so. I am aware that most of this functionality is already in FileZilla, and it would be trivial to add an option to the preferences to skip the dialog and overwrite the file automatically. That way one less step in my work-cycle when dealing with live sites has been cut out, and I would be one happy bunny :)

I would like to suggest adding an option to automatically disable an account when the user fails to login a certain amount of times. Also there could be a checkbox to automatically add an IP ban after a certain number of failed logins or an excessive amount of connections.

This would help defend the server from the common FTP brute force attacks.

Currently (FileZilla Client 3.5.1), the target directory doesw not show the actual contents when an upload is completed. The user then has to manually refresh the diretory listing to confirm that the transfered data is there. be a If the directory would automatically refresh, this would not be necessary. Whether the refresh should happen per file transfer or group of transfers could be a user preference, as per file would generate a bit more traffic which might not be necessary for a specific user.

In Filezilla 2 a to a filename in the remote site was automatically shown with the file showing the new filename as happens in any windows explorer environment.

In Filezilla 3 the filename remains the same after renaming it, requiring a manual refresh. Would it be possible have the filename update automatically again after a rename?

When the queue is finished I want Filezilla to shutdown computer but I have the error message "Failed to kill process xxxx" where xxxx is fzftp ID process.

fsftp has yet been killed but I still have the error message. This happens very often but not all the time.

I think a really killer feature would be to add a Dreamweaver-like automatic subdirectory support.

Dreamweaver allows you to view the content under the site root in a tree-view fashion. When you choose to upload a file, it automatically uploads the file in the corresponding directory in the remote site directory hierarchy.

I'm telling this because I'm dealing mainly with applications. I upload lots of asp, php and java files but don't need Dreamweaver editing features. I'm almost forced to use it because no other app I know supports it. I think FileZilla offering that could be a real killer app.

The user is currently alerted to new versions upon opening the FileZilla client, and is presented with the option to upgrade immediately or ignore the upgrade.

I want another option. (I don't like to be forced to do things right away, and I don't like to remember routine tasks like upgrades.)

In the upgrade alert, please include the option to automatically update the next time the FileZilla client is closed.

I want an option to bypass the popup that asks if I want to upload a file I have edited. I saw the suggestion that it can compromise your data but we should atleast have the option which would be disabled by default but able to be enabled through Settings.

I can now (2.0.0a) right-click on a remote file and open my relevant editor. Cool. But I would like FileZilla to automatically upload the edited file to the ftp-server (in the background) each time I save my changes. That is not yet possible as far as I can see.

Today, when I use Filezilla, a dialog box appears when a previously opened file has been changed, and I'm able to answer "yes" to upload the modified version of the file.

I would like a feature (with a checkbox in preferences) to do this automatically when a previously opened file has been changed, without having to switch to Filezilla and answer the dialog.

Hi A lot of times I have to transfer dll files or text files by ftp and, when i remember, I have to zip them with other programs in order to save a lot of space, and after send them with FileZilla. I think that it could be nice, if you can add a feature, where you can select some files to transfer and the program make a zip with inside that files and transfer only that zip file

FileZilla is being a bit too "helpful." I set up my remote account in the Advanced tab of the Site Manager to default to the following remote directory:

public_html

That's it. Not /public_html -- public_html.

But regardless of whether I enter public_html or public_html/, FileZilla is adding a slash at the beginning.

No other FTP software has ever had a problem with me entering public_html as the default directory. Since public_html and /public_html are NOT the same thing, I consider this a bug and would like to see it fixed in the next version of FileZilla.

If FileZilla truly wants to be helpful, how about testing whether public_html exists, and if it doesn't work, suggesting to the user that they might have meant /public_html?

When I open Filezilla and the automatic updater downloads the new version and then tries to execute it I get this error: Execution of command 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Downloads\FileZilla_3.0.11_win32-setup.exe' failed (error 193: unknown error c1)

This has been happening on since about four versions ago...sorry I've just been lazy in submitting it. This is on a PowerEdge 2900 Server with Windows Server 2003 x32 R2 SP2, 10GB RAM, Dual Quad Core Xeon's @ 2.00GHZ.

If you need anymore information let me know. The only thing I can thing of is whatever process executes the exe doesn't have permission to do so. I'll have to check on my XP machine to see if this does the same thing. I'll update this and let you know.

Awesome new feature to automatically download updates to FileZilla, however, instead of in the user'sDownloads folder, the archive ends up in Documents instead. Only a minor nuisance, but still I think this should be corrected.

This is technically not new - it was well described in Ticket #1414, but that ticket was timed out by the tracker. After the setup app downloads (I put it on the desktop because I know I'll have to click it), it attempts to start but fails with unknown error 193. This is on Windows XP SP3, and I have Panda for Desktops as my antivirus.

From what I can tell on Google, the error code 193 means "%1 is not a valid win32 process."

No biggie, just a nuisance, and it's been that way ever since I discovered your wonderful Filezilla client last summer.

Some ftp sites limits number of simultaneous connections, so would you please add a feature that supports automatic reconnection after a certain time delay when connection on the first try fails?

The "Automatically remove transfers" option under the "successful transfers" tab doesn't work on Mac OS X.

There are so many people requesting this, and, I love FileZilla and have used it for years, but I have to be frank - the devs come off as arrogant saying it is not technically possible or it is gambling with your data.

Absolutely, set this option as 'off' by default. If you implement it, make the users go into menus and specifically turn it on only if they know what they are doing. Give a warning about it.

But let the users make the choice about whether they want to gamble with their data or not. Don't make the choice for them.

When I am doing web dev., the data is always in my text editor. If it were lost in transmission, this would never be a problem, because I always have it saved locally in my editor.

For some things - like tweaking small CSS things to get things just right - having this feature would cut my time by 50%. Literally. It is a HUGE feature missing, and the reason I don't use filezilla any more.

Alternately, create a tray icon that you can click on to upload a changed document. Save from hunting for the FZ window. That would also help alot, and would be nearly as good.

It makes me sad, because I like FileZilla best of all FTP programs, but have stopped using it solely for lack of this one feature.

I tried to make a user with password 123 . i made it then i opened up the filezilla client , i entered user's name and the password (wich was 123) then it said Login Incorrect . But when i went back to the Server i saw that the password was changed to some random numbers wich are 20 chars long . Please help .

In our work place we have an unix server which has very strict file and folder permissions for new folders and files.

It would be great if FileZilla could have a setting where user can set the default permissions for new folders and files. For example in our server I would like to set the default permission 755 for all new folders and the setting 764 for all new files.

I receive new version notifications without problem.

The download fails when Filezilla tries to connect to sourceforge servers. The CPU usage increase up to 99% and filezilla freeze. I need to close it with CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the process.

I tried several times during the day. Always the same freeze.

Creating a new directory (local or server does not matter) like

works normal.

But trying to add characters like [ or ] to an existing directory like

previous_name --> [text]_previous_name

those characters can't be typed in the directory renaming input field…

But: Copying the desired characters into clipboard, the pasting of them is allowed into the renaming input field…

I use Filezilla 3.0.9.2, Windows XP SP2, 1Gb RAM, to connect and download a full website, with user-generated content. This website has about 15,000 directories, with more than 20,000 files. About 7Gb everything.

When Filezilla gets 4,000-5,000 files it starts to slow down overall performance, and also CPU usage is going up to a continuous 50%.

It does not crash. It only makes the computer and the download very slow.

It would be nice if I could specify not to count transfers below a certain speed as part of the limit for total number of transfers, such as bittorrent clients allow.

First of all, thanks for having ported my favorite FTP program (FileZilla of course ;o) ) to my favorite operating system (Gnu/Linux)!!!

As for the bug : FileZilla 3.0.1 displays the local and remote site directory tree and file areas, as well as the transfer queue area with a gray background instead of a white one. The message log on the other hand gets displayed with a white background, and the background of the icons of the remote directory tree is white as well, so I presume this is a (minor) bug.

It would be great if this could be fixed in a future release of FileZilla!

Hopefully this is a simple request.

It would be very helpful to have different background colors (or some other visual cue) to help keep track of which session you're in when there are multiple sessions open.

When a connection is done by entering the server, user, password and port, the background of the quick connect bar and of the menu bar gets overriden by the status information.

You should create an option in the settings to turn on automatic backup to iCloud or iDisk.

Sometimes the size of files, after one or more resume operation, once completed upload is different from original file.

Version of FileZilla Client is 3.2.5.

If I go to DirB, and I do double-click to enter in the second DirA, FileZilla open the DirA directory in root directory.

If you have two directories with the same name, some times the filezilla go to bad directory.

Put this structure in your site with filezilla: DirA --file1inDirA DirB --file2inDirB --DirB1 --DirA (same name that other Dir in the rood directory)

Then you go to DirB

Now move (with mouse drag and drop) the file2inDirB to DirA (inside DirB).

Now double-click in DirA (inside DirB) and ... you go to DirA in root directory.

I start downloading a file of maybe 50 mb. When I have downloaded 30 mb, I pause the download by "Process Queque" or something like that ( my filezilla is in Spanish ).

When I resume the download, I get a 80 mb file!!

With version 2.1.8c

When I tried to resume a download on a IBM/aix server :

• the resume seem to go normaly
• then the download goes over 100%

I then went to the command window, to see "REST command not found".

The error wasn't trapped by filezilla, and the dowloaded file was bad.

The server couldn't resume and filezilla started to resume instead of sending a message and restarting the download from zero.

I use a wireless connection which loses some packets so TCP connections are lost quite often. I've installed FileZilla especially for uploading large files because I've heard it resumes uploads correctly. But sometimes it obviously doesn't.

I uploaded a 31MB zip file and found out that the file on the server is a bit larger than the original file. I've retried several times and the resulting file size is each time different but always a bit greater than the correct one. The original file size is 32735774 B and the resulting file size is e.g. (in the logged case) 32763514 B.

I uploaded also a 13MB file and this was uploaded incorrectly for the first time and correctly for the second time so FZ resumes uploads incorrectly only sometimes.

При загрузке файлов содержащие изображения с операционной системы windows 7 на хостинг используюя ftp FileZilla Client, изображения загружаются битыми(плохими)файлами. Изменения кодировки не дает нужных результатов.

Но если использовать программу Тотал командер на системе windows xp, файлы загружаются без ошибок, целостность не изменяется.

Попробую прикрепить набор скриншотов к этому сообщению. В нем более подробно изображена проблемма с загружаемыми файлами.

people who try try to login to quick after each other should be bant for a while (make an option of it). So when someone is doing a dictionary attack or so will fail. :)

Any chance of bandwidth limiting? Its the only major thing I can see that may be needed. On my CM connection I'd like to restrict my download speed so I can do other stuff at the same time.

I'm testing the software and it seems that is a very good tool. I wonder if to add users, can be done with some batch form, because in some ocassions I will wanted to do it. So this might be used too, for make a backup of the users that already exists.

Would it be possible to limit certain commands that can be used in fileZilla? (possibly a section under the site manager)

As example stop the mv command from being run.

I managed to drag and drop a folder by accident to the ... (which moved it up a directory) This happened to be a server folder, so all hell broke lose after that. Just thinking that maybe a popup confirmation (ie "Are you want to move x to x / Are you sure you want to download x from x etc.) or limiting commands than can be run on a per server basis might be a good idea.

ofc if this is accepted it should be an option under the site manager so that not everyone has to have this feature turned on.

When FileZilla is told to trust a self-signed certificate, that certificate will be accepted for any connection. For example, if I trust a certificate from some random guy for my connection to ftp.randomguy.net, that certificate will also be treated as valid for filezilla-project.org, google.com, sourceforge.net and so on.

The certificate (or rather FileZillas trust in the certificate) ought to be bound to a specific hostname or to a specific site in the site manager.

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. Generate a valid self-signed certificate and configure an FTP server to use it.
2. Connect to the server with FileZilla and choose to trust the certificate.
3. Copy the same certificate to a different FTP server (and set it up).
4. Connect to this second server with FileZilla.

The result: FileZilla connects without warnings to the second server, even though the certificate belongs to a completely different server.

Software versions: FileZilla 3.3.4.1, GnuTLS 2.8.6

If a directory name on a remote server begins or ends with a space, FileZilla appears to trim the space(s) and the user is unable to work with the directory (list contents, rename, etc.)

I have tested and was able to reproduce on Windows, OS X and CentOS 6.4.

To reproduce, create a folder with a name that starts with or ends with a space. Attempt to list the contents of this folder from FileZilla.

The log window reads:

I think it would be really nice, if you made it possible to transfer a file between to servers, so you didnt have to first download file(s), disconnect, connect to the other server and upload.

If you could make it possible to view one server in the left 'window/table' and another server in the right window.

I dont know a decent way to send files between to servers, without using a third server/computer, which i dont suppose you know either.

The workaround would be connecting to both servers, and when the user wants to transfer the file(s), it downloaded them to the users computer and then, without the user doing anything, uploaded them to the second server.

Not sure if this is a bug, but reporting just in case. I've seen this in all Betas so far.

Under Gnome 2.18.1 / Ubuntu feisty standard install, the Settings dialog shows "<pagename>" at the top, for all "pages", for example Connection, Interface, Debug, etc.

I wonder if this is a problem with ubuntu's gnome or just still work in progress.

Hey there, iam using the latest CVS sync of the linux version of FileZilla (FileZilla3). I Update several times a day. However i didnt come here to say that, i better get to the point.

From what ive seen on the userinterface we have something similiar to this...

For some reason i find this pretty a waste of space in the Client window, i browse for folder in one Window and choose the icon to upload/download in another. This could be solves by just having one Window (a Icon view style) Would save more space, and would be much nicer =D

If you feel like that you really would want these two styled windows, Would it then pe possible to add a feature in the preferences dialog, Where you can choose to either just have the IconView mode, or the mode FileZilla is using right now.

2) Icons... Another thing i saw on the forums where that you are going to make your own Icon theme for FileZilla. May i ask why? cant it just use my native GTK icons? Like all other GTK applications does, and same on Windows they will also get their natiev icons.

This is also great for users who is having other GTK Icon themes, due they will get their native icons, and i think all would want that =D

However FileZilla is one of the best FTP Clients ive ever used, iam really glad to see that the linux users also can use this really nice piece of work.

Hi, I noted that dragging a file from local to remote (ie from desktop to the remote window) works perfectly, while If I drag'n'drop a file from a remote server to the desktop, it won't work. Can you please fix it?

The one major thing lacking in Filezill Server is logging options. I would like to see things like file size limitations, control of log name, log location, being able to rotate the log out ever hour, day, week, month, ext. This is needed for security badly. Someone was trying to hack my Filezilla Server FTP today and when I tryed to open the log a 106 MB file takes a hell of a long time to load. Giving these options (expesialy to start a new log every hour, day, week, month) whould have helped me a huge amount.
