Plz add support for transferring files with their names encoded in EUC (Japanese) for transferring files with an ftp server on a UNIX machine. Would be nice if this could be done per site in the advanced section of site configuration.

When a file is downloading FileZilla shows the transfer data rate in the status bar. It would be very useful for me if you added in the log window the mean transfer rate for each file downloaded (for statistic purposes).

The "filetype" (extension) should be treated as a separate column like filesize, date, time, permissions, owner/group. and not be concatenated with the "filename"

This would allow sorting on the filetype, and make the tool that much better as often times only one filetype is needed and it would allow the needle in the haystack to be found lickity/split.

Running FileZilla 221b Connecting to FTP Server that is using VShell.

Scenario: users with certain access correctly see a folder for say... uploads and they cannot browse anywhere else. This functionality is correct for that group policy. The home folder is set to this location for these users via VShell. The user sees the root folder and only this upload folder. The group rights are set so that the user can upload to directory but cannot request a directory listing. The process is intended for a blind upload.

Problem: Cannot "PUT" files into the folder because ls/list/dir commands are blocked to users with this type of access. Why does FileZilla need to list directory to issue the put command (i.e. put <filename> ...c:\windows) Is there a way to execute "PUT" without FileZilla listing the target directory contents or issuing an ls command?

Sample of problem: (this done by right clicking and selecting upload because drag and drop does not work)

It would be nice to have the same "root" structure in Filezilla as in Windows : actually, it's a bit painfull to find your "Desktop" crawling through "Document and settings" and so on. As in any other software, Desktop is a "root" directory

An internal text editor in a panel at the right of the remote one could be usefoul to edit and upload a file withouth closing it, losing the "undo history".

I'm connected to a remote computer and want to transfer a file directly to a remote share. In the treeview, I can only see local disks. If I enter \serversharedirectory, FileZilla says "The path you have entered could not be found". Please change FileZilla so that I could browse the local LAN or I can enter the path directly.

A lot of site restrikt der downloads/uploads to sftp connections.

I need to move files in an other directory... Deleting them to reupload them a minute later is a miraculous waste of bandwidth when you are limited on the server side. I would be great to add an option to do this with a single file and a group of file (Drag/Drop, or something like this)

... which, when I downloaded ended up looking like...

... and then uploaded, with half the data missing!

I would like to be able to filter out files (specifically or by wildcard, i.e. *.log) or directories (i.e. CVS). Would also be nice to be able to filter out by attributes (i.e. hidden files).

Will you please consider adding a Daylight Savings Time (DST) option (Site Manager -> Advanced -> Server Timezone Offset), so that DST is automatically adjusted? Thanks.

Thanks for the great work. We are about to deploy filezilla in our school, but there is two bad things which stop us :

• The quickconnect bar only support ftp. It should

support sftp (and the 2 others).

• The quickconnect save all the info used to the xml

file, it's very annoying and dangerous. Saving password should be done only when user wants it (IE in the site manager)

When I minimize FileZilla to system try, I dont get any information about connection status. It would be great if system try icon changes color when disconnected/connecting/connected(/transfer/idle) or show balloon tips if connected/disconnected etc.

I really like FileZilla, but the one thing I miss from LeechFTP is the toolbar buttons to quickly switch between ASCII/Binary/Auto. I realize I can do this from the "Transfer -> Transfer Type" menu, but toolbar buttons would help me out a lot, and it seems like a fairly simple enhancement.

I miss a synchronization feature between local and remote directories. The one that FTP Voyager has is quite nice.

The HTML Help files do outline all of the features of Filezilla but can still be improved. For instance, the version history only goes up to Version 2.1.6 (2002-04-18). This could be updated from the readme file. Although not necessary, it would be good if the screenshots were updated to reflect the latest version.

To save time, perhaps people could attach screenshots to this request? Proxy settings screenshot attached (v2.2.5; the one in the help file is out of date).

It would be nice if the client side file browser of FileZilla Client had support for MS Windows Networking like WS_FTP PRO.

I am the technical director here at Verisign responsible for the development of a plug-in to IE, Outlook and Outlook Express to provide support for IDNs ("International Domain Names") As part of our development effort we have packaged an open source C library that can be integrated into application such as FileZilla. This completely free library provides all the necessary encoding/decoding required when taking a domain name in non-ASCII characters and converting it so that DNS can understand it.

Companies such as SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com) and CoreFTP (www.coreftp.com) have taken this library and have integrated it into their products with others currently under development.

With Netscape, Mozilla, Firebird and Camino now also support IDNs natively based on the suggestion of a collegue I am posting this request. IDNs are now being offered by most of the major gTLDs as well as ccTLDs.

IDNs being supported in dotCom and dotNet they are now also supported by the following ccTLDs: dotNo, dotSe, dotDk, dotDe, dotCh, dotCn, dotHk, dotJp, dotKr, dotTw, dotVn, dotCc and dotTv. Shortly dotLt, dotInfo and dotAt will also be making IDNs available in their respective markets.

Attached to this message is our SDK which can be reviewed for suitability of purpose. Unfortunately the attached ZIP file includes both our Java as well as C implementations so you'll need to sort through to pick out the pieces of the C lib.

Finally, we have set up an external FTP Server to faciliate testing and I would be pleased to provide suitable information should it be of value.

If FileZilla is opening a remote folder, but I want to open another instead, it should automatically cancel opening the first and open the second. At this time, it just beeps at me and finishes loading the first.

If I copy files from a local dir to an ftp dir, that already exists , I get the prompt "File Already Exists" and get several options.

If I choose the option "Always Use Action when a file already exists", this has the effect that my choice not only applies to all the other files i choose to copy in the current operation, but also all subsequent copy-operations I initiate during the same connection.

Personally, I would like the "Always" to only apply to the current operation and it's files. But if it is to be remembered for future copy-operations should it not also be remembered across connections?

Some anonymous sites force you to use a valid format for the anonymus pass. For instance, nobody@…. I have been denied anonymous access on two FTP sites based on this. My solution, for now, is to enter anonymous as the user name, and then enter a properly formed email address when the password box comes up (rather than checking the anonymous box). While this works, it would be nice if I could globally set this so that I don't have to worry about it.

Hi, a couple of very handy options that I miss from SmartFTP:

1) a toolbar button allowing me to specify ASCII or binary transfer

2) ability to have a sound play when transfer of files to their destination is done, thereby enabling me to immediately do a refresh in my browser to see if the web page I've transferred looks as it should. The sound is a great cue because I don't have to be in FileZilla to watch and see when the file has transferred, instead I can be in my browser and hear when it's transferred.

Support for IDNA (International Domain Names in Applications) according to RFC 3490 would be nice, so that domains with umlauts and other special characters are correctly resolved.

There should already exists ready to use libraries for this, so it shouldn't be that hard, despite that strange Punycode encoding... :-)

If anyone speaks German here, there is a very good comparision of the several ftp-clients in the actual c't (heise.de). FZ is one of the bests (esp. because of Open-Sour ce) but there is a nice list of features that could be added!!

I would like to know if you can change how the commands are sent. The are being sent as capital letters and what I am taking to needs lower case.

The latest version of WS_FTP Server includes support for Clear Command Channel with AUTH SSL connections. This is a very useful feature when crossing multiple NAT devices. There is currently no freeware FTP client with support for Clear Command Channel.

I use public/private key authentication on the servers I maintain, and the ones not maintained by me uses this scheme too, also mostly FTP is closed. So SFTP with public/private key authentication would be great!

In the setup, we can indicate how many files can be downloaded/uploaded simultaneously.

But, I have not found where we can say, for instance in the Site Manager, that a specific site only allows a specific number of simultaneous connections.

For instance, I may have said that I allow 5 downloads at the same time but, for a specific site, maybe only two connections are allowed. So, if the file list is displayed, only one file can be downloaded (because only one remaining connection is available).

Is this functionnality available, or is it an enhancement?

I could synchronize a remote folder to a local folder and FZ would automatically update files on both sides using the Transfer Overwrite settings.

Often files are stored on mirrors. So it should be interesting to download them from different mirror sites at the same time to increase throughput.

When using View/Edit I would like that the file could be uploaded on save file, instead of having to close the editor.

Then I could use it associated with my PHP editor :D Is this possible?

How about an UPLOAD wizard like WS_FTP Pro. Nice function allows you to right click on either a file or directory and choose... "FileZilla Upload Wizard..." Where it would allow me to browse to a conntection/folder or choose a previous upload folder from pull-down, and a simple GO button that would upload the selected files/folders.

It would be very useful to add public key authentication for SSH. Since Putty has this feature, it may be easy to use the putty code for this. It would be even better if Putty's Pageant can be invoked as a key agent, with the proposed public key authentication.

I am moving this to this area (was incorrectly posted on the support request area, sorry).

The line ending bytes are different for text files on windows and for those on linux type os [cr vs cr,lf]. A nice feature some popular ssh and ftp clients have (ssh.com, FTPExplorer) is to translate appropriately these text files when ASCII file transfer (either Auto based on extensions or Forced) is in effect. This makes it possible for almost all text browsers on both win and *x side show the file correctly on the respective os.

Please add this feature to FZ file transfer. If such an automatic translation is not desireable for some users, then may I suggest adding another preference setting to do this translation. Thank you!

It would be helpfull to allow AUTO transfers to use regular expression rather than just the extension for definition of which files should have ASCII cr-lf/nl translations perfomed. A case in point: the file HECinstall300.30 is ACSII and the file hec3EVer300.F.30 is binary. An ASCII translation could be defined for HECinstall* using a REGEX definintion. This would allow auto mode to properly convert HECinstall300.30 and leave hec3EVer300.F.30 alone. When Version 400 or version 300.31 are available that definition would still work. Watcha think?

Would it be possible to add a parameter to "overwrite if more recent" for people like me who are at GMT+2 while their server is set at GMT ?

A FileZilla.pdb (6500 Ko) file is now part of the downloads and it makes filezilla download really heavier especially with 56k modems. I did not find if this file was useful. If not could you remove it?

just like download manager can 'break' a file into multiple segments and download them simulataneously...

i think upload also should work like this. so a file is 'break' into multi segment, then each and all segment upload simultaneously.

this should result in faster upload. especially for my dial-up which have to resume tens time to finish a one megs file upload...

My company would like to have a centralized list of FTP sites for our employees to connect to, so that when someone adds a site to the list, it shows up for everyone else. However, it looks like you cannot change the path of the site settings from C:\program files\filezilla\filezilla.xml. It would be great if we could place the filezilla.xml file on a network share and then have everyone's local copy of Filezilla look to that file for its site settings. Thanks!

This is one of the best ftp clients I have found; however, there are a few hotkeys I miss.

A key (such as <TAB>) to switch focus between local and remote panes.

Keys to upload and download the file(s) or folders that are currently selected in either local or remote panes.

Nortel (and former Bay Networks, former Wellfleet) routers running BayRS use a lightweight FTP server for file handling on their flash file systems. It is limited in functionality and uses a simple fixed length file display. Currently none of the server types in FileZilla correctly parse such a file display.

My feature request is that FileZilla include proper handling of this server type.

I am speaking to functionality similar to the 'RemenDeKO' or 'Remote File Fixer' programs found on sourceforge. The idea is that you divide the file up into blocks and use CRC to check the integrity of each block. Then, only the corrupted blocks need to be re-transferred instead of the entire file.

This would be particularly useful after downloading a very large file or over a slower connection.

The problem with the programs mentioned above is that they require user participation on both ends of the file transfer. It would be much more convenient to have this functionality built directly into an ftp server/client, so that the task could be automated.

I know I can edit the .xml settings file to remove QuickConnect server entries, but it would be nice if this could be done from the GUI.

I'd specifically like to see a right-click popup menu over each entry, which includes "Edit" and "Delete" options.

The Nortel Networks Passport 1000 and 8000 class routing switches use a VxWorks based FTP server for their DOS/Windows type flash file system. The display format is not recognized by FileZilla client. Requesting support for this file system. Nortel Passport switches are widely deployed network devices.

The file 'FileZilla.xml' should not be stored under ../Program Files/Filezilla/

This file should be stored under the logged on user's profile Application Data folder.

Under Win2K/XP it should be stored here: [system drive]:\Documents and Settings\[logged on username]\Application Data\[Filezilla]

Under Win98/ME its somthing like: [system drive]:\WINDOWS\Profiles\[username]

It wold be great if you could edit files directly in FileZilla, with som ekind of "Notepad". In CuteFTP, it's already a very useful feature.

This means you have to know the path where you want to go. The advantage is that users (especially if they don't know our directory structure) are unable to 'browse' through our directory tree.

Most FTP clients I have used allow for this feature by allowing us to set up a site profile for a user that takes them directly to the directory they need to access. They are either unable to 'cd' up (..) to the parent directory, or if they are able, once there they see nothing.

When I try to access one of these directories using FileZilla, even though it is able to read the directory I want, it fails because it can't read the parent directory. In fact, it appears to need read access for the parent directories all the way to '/'.

I would like to be able to see a remote directory which I have access to even if I do not have read access to the directories above it.

An example on our system is the directory /datatel/live/collive/_HOLD_. The directory permissions are:

drwxr-xr-x / drwxrwx--x /datatel drwxrwx--x /datatel/live drwxrwx--x /datatel/live/collive drwxrwxr-x /datatel/live/collive/_HOLD_

Please consider adding a "follow me" feature into the directory browsing code.

What I mean by this is if you descend into a directory on the local machine, the remote automatically descends as well. the reverse would be true of course.

This feature would be a time and click saver when the local and remote sites are identical in structure, which I think you will find is very common.

The feature would need to be enabled and disabled on a per site basis, or perhaps have a "smart" selection where if filezilla finds a matching folder name it automatically follows.

I use broadband I have 256kbs up 512kbs up these are mutually exclusive it would be helpful in the filezilla to allow mutiple connections for transfering files only where they aer in different directions. ie 1up and 1down not 2down or 2up

Is there any way to make the FileZilla service under NT live happily within the confines of restrictive access?

IOW, can FileZilla only have Read ( (RX) (RX) ) access

to the whole system, except where needed (log files, directories in which ftp users will be uploading, etc.)?

NO FTP server for Windows is capable of this yet, and I have no idea why. Though the most secure solution would be to make sure that a program doesn't even have Read or eXecute permissions on files it shouldn't be touching, it'd be a step in the right direction to know that even if there's a security hole in the server down the road, people wouldn't be able to do much except peek at operating system files. (Instead of being able to bring the whole system to a screaching CRASH because the program had the access to overwrite critical system files.)

For reference:

I change permissions across the board on NT systems to in an effort to create a more secure environment. Gone is Everybody (only Microsoft would give everybody permission to a system) and Creator/Owner (except for below). The default for me is to give Administrators and SYSTEM Full Control (RXWDPO), Power Users Change (RXWD) and Users Read (RX) from C:\ on down. The only exceptions are for C:\WinNT\Profiles (NT4) or C:\Documents and Settings (2K/XP), where I modify rights according to the user so that each user has their own little space (or have a virii/worms/etc) screw things up. Creator/Owner gets full control for the All Users directory, only so that people can manage their own files as they wish while making sure people keep their hands off of other people's files. I'll use Apache as prime example, only because it's the only program I know of (extra emphasis on "I know of") that can live within these confines. Heck, I don't even let Apache have write access to DocumentRoot, only to stop the PHP worms in their tracks!

If FileZilla could pull this off, it could have a HUGE advantage over every other FTP server product out there -- commercial, freeware, open-source -- bar none!

Would it be possible to add "wake on lan" feature in Filezilla? It would allow to remotely turn Filezilla server on or off.

To the FZ Server's developer, while I am seeking more free Secure FTP Server, they are just only in Linux base platform :-(

For a Windows bae platform, no one do better than FileZilla for the free FTP Server, but for nowadays, all people need the more security fetuares, so I hope the developer can make a FZ FTP Server build-in SSH2 like the Linux base FTP Server. Or SSL/ RSA etc security fetuare :-)

drag-and-drop only works for items that are uploaded (i.e. anywhere -> filezilla client). The reverse does not (it only allows interaction with the left pane of the client, not with the desktop). It would be nice if I could drag-and-drop from client's right pane to anywhere on the desktop / pc, as opposed to having to navigate via left pane tree.

You should have the ability to move files from a directory to another directory of the same FTP server.

This can be done with the FTP commands RNFR/RNTO. For example: RNFR /myhome/olddir/myfile.zip RNTO /another/directory/myfile.zip

The GUI should allow you to select some files from the remote file panel and chose a "Move to..." option (say from the right-click menu). After entering the destination directory, Filezilla should issue a sequence of RNFR/RNTO commands for each selected file.

But in Taiwan and China, there are lots of encoding methods for file name. In Taiwan, maybe you perfer to use UTF-8, someone perfer to use Big5, etc. As a result, if one's chinese file name using Big5, then I get some chinese files from him, I will get error file name. Although I can change remote character set to disappear the correct file name, but when I download it, it also use the remote files name to save. So, in my nautilus, I can't disappear the correct file name. SO mybe gFTP can auto change the encoding Big5 to UTF-8 when I download file from a Big5 server. (ps most of ftp server in Taiwan, using Big5 encode, not UTF-8 , but filezilla defaule using UTF-8)

When exporting now you only get the settings from filezilla, not all the websites-ftp'locations you've enterd.

You should have a sentance saying that FileZilla is for Windows.

It took me quite a while to figure out what OS it was for.

There should be a mechanism which does one or the other of the following:

(Easy, Preferred, global setting) In the General Settings Options menu, there should be a menu which will allow specific kinds of access to the FTP server. It could include checkboxes for the types of access the adminstrator desires such as "Standard" for usual port 21 activity, "SSL" to enable only ssl, "TLS" to enable only tls. It should also have the ability to select one at a time, a combination of two, or all three. This would give the administrator the ability to only permit secure access, restrict to one method of secure commication, allow open access, or any combination of the former. FileZilla Server 0.96a's default behavior is to accept and allow all connections despite SSL/TLS being enabled. Therefore the administrator cannot restrict to secure-only communication, the user has to make that choice in their FTP client.

(Difficult, Admins get more control, per user/group setting) Give the ability for specific users/groups to access various folders to which their respective groups/users permit access depending on if the session is open or encrypted. Example: User1 belongs to Group1 and Group2. Group1 is the user's home folder with public access. Group2 is a data-sensitive folder that requires an encrypted connection to gain access. If user is logged in with standard ftp access, the user will be denied access to Group2 until the user logs in with SSL/TLS.

I am *very* pleased with the current release, this feature request will bring FileZilla server up to corporate standards where security is a prerequisite.

Could you please add an option to monitor each IP for the number of failed login attempts.

In the option, once the threshold (user configurable) for consecutived failed logins, over a certain time interval (user configurable), has been reached, the server places the offending IP into an auto block list for a certain amount of time (user configurable). Also please include an override for anonymous accounts. And, please add a user configurable escalation rate and the ability to send a notification (i.e. via email, SMS, pager, etc.).

Could the developement team include skey/opie support?

Filezilla recognize the server is asking for skey/opie and prompt the user the enter the skey/opie password instead of plain text password.

Although it's possible to set a number for concurrent file transmissions, it's impossible to set a number for download and upload queues seperately. I'm on an assymetrical DSL line (>1.5Mbps upstream, 96k upstream), which means I can't upload very quickly but can download pretty much as fast as the FTP server allows me; I would like to be able to download more than one file concurrently, but only upload one file at a time.

It would be great if both the client (and more importantly) the server would support UPnP.

The 'clear' item in the dropdown menu of Quickconnect does nothing except clearing the inputboxes. I think I seldome need this function.

What I would like it to do is clear recent host list. Can you rework on this?

The way filezilla detects and handles IBM mainframe ftp servers is extremely useful. However, sometimes when I want to connect to the mainframe I require to access the Unix System Services. Problem is because it detects correctly that the ftp server is on a mainframe it puts brackets around filenames etc. and becomes unusable.

What would be really useful is a client setting to enable override of the detected ftp server type. So I could tell the client to ignore the fact I'm connecting to a mainframe and treat it like a native Unix system.

Humm i was wondering i know a freind who developes websites and he host people but he said it is really hard when a person has a mac because it is hard to find a good mac FTP program... and Filezilla is easy to use and very realible.

So can you guys make a future version MAC compatible???

It would be great if FileZilla would have standard .deb or .rpm packages for linux. This would make filezilla very attractive for linux! Furthermore it should be advertised more, that Filezilla also works (fine) on linux. Maybe this could also be supported by screenshots of filezilla running on linux (without wine). As far as I can see, Filezilla is better than other FTP clients!

An option to preserve the file date/time when uploading would be a useful enhancement (IMHO).

FTP Voyager is a commercial product that has a very useful sync feature. I can keep a local repository consistent with a remote one, for instance. It will upload new or modified files and delete ones not in use.

I didn't see this feature in FileZilla. It would be a useful addition.

Hi - great project!

Suggest: add a configuration SAVE AS option on EDIT functions.

Very useful after spending a long time setting things up as you like - especially if there are many specified users, logins and different file shares, limits etc. for security or other functionality... Then later having to reinstall... OR... for other flexibility to rapidly change setup permissions and config.

As you divide the EDIT into three options (SETTINGS / USER / GROUP) so each one should have its SAVE AS function.

Otherwise you could add instead a global SAVE CONFIGURATION - but probably this not so useful as the divided option.

(Of course, If there is a 'SAVE' there must be a 'LOAD' settings function also.. :)

Several setup configurations should now be possible - easily changeable by a simple LOAD. Great!

I am part of a network my friend made and when i try to download a file, it begins normally. The files used to download all the way, for example a tv show would completely download and i'd be able to view the whole episode. now, the download stops halfway through and says:
