#1114 | Windows Vista Beta 2: long file names don't fully highlight | normal | 18 years | 18 years
Description |
When selecting a file with a long name (either in the local panel or remote panel) only a portion of the file name will be highlighted. Additionally, it will truncate the name to 5 characters plus "..." (this is the part that highlights) however any additional characters in the file name past this will still be visible. See attached image. This may be a bug with Microsoft Windows Vista, however I felt it prudent to file a bug here just in case. I have filed a bug report with Microsoft as well. |

#5347 | Windows 7: network card crashes on multiple connections | normal | rejected | 14 years | 11 years
Description |
In the current release 3.3.2.1 on my win7 x64 system I recognized a strange behaviour that causes my wired network card to "crash" which gets only working again after a reboot. Following is happening, I reproduced it as described about 5 times: Downloading a huge amount of files and data from a standard webserver. To increase the overall speed, I usually download several files at a time time, mostly about 4. When 1 *bigger* file is currently downloading (> 40MB) and other *little* ones (> 5KB & < 100KB) are downloaded too, it stucks from *one moment to the other*. The described issue results in a completely freezed network card. No connections can get in or out anymore. From then it is impossible to change the IP address manually (or automatically), enable/disable it to refresh the network card or even send a ping to a known computer in the network. It seems that only a reboot of the system does help (if windows shuts down correctly, otherwise human needs to be stronger than computer by pressing the power off button) (In the past I had a similar problem too, which was caused of too many open ftp connections because of many little files and an overhead for tcp connections, which then resulted in a stopped queue. But this queue could be continued after some minute when the server has ended all open connections in timeout and other network functions still worked.) As already mentioned, I reproduced this about 5 times and while trying to find out if this can be avoided, following helps a bit:
Below is the currently used filezilla version, if you need additional detailed hardware/os information (dxdiag whatever) or more information that I might have forgotton here, let me know. Thanks. btw. I really really like filezilla! great job :) Conrad Version: 3.3.2.1 Build information:

#10489 | Windows 7 x64 Hidden Files Not Displayed | low | worksforme | 9 years | 9 years
Description |
Inside the appdata/remote directory, with "Hidden" checked and applied in Local filters in "Directory listing filters", no files beginning with .[x] is displayed. For example, Minecraft stores its files in appdata/remote/.minecraft and yet even with Hidden files enabled, that directory does not appear. Please see the comprehensive screenshot attached. Currently, the workaround is to type the known directory name directly into Local Site directory field. The problem is, you must be able to see the directory names you need to access. |

#1177 | Windows (XP) Shortcuts not working | normal | 18 years | 18 years

I'm pretty sure this used to work before 2.2.23. I am currently using 2.2.28. Now, when you click on a shortcut ("symlink") in the LOCAL file list, instead of moving to that directory (like it used to), it now opens up that directory in a Windows directory view window. (I don't think it's even a file explorer window -- is there a diff?) |

For some versions now I'm encoutering the same problem (effect, less a real problem). After minimizing the FileZilla Application window or pressing "show desktop" and switching back to FileZilla, the window resizes from "maximized" to "restored" size. This only happens the first time after starting the App; every next time I minimize or switch to desktop, everything's fine on turning back to FileZilla and the window status is still "maximized". Any idea or suggestions? Thanks, greetings, Felix |

In fact, I copied the corresponding files from my USB stick onto my system hard disc (Desktop) [regarding: http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2796] and set an upload limit to 300 KiB/s ... No testing other than emptying the folder in question has been done to learn what that high limit might be. Perhaps solution in this unusual case would be to only present partial list? or perhaps change to directory, but do not attempt to display entire contents? I connect to a SFTP server where I have to use a secureID to generate a unique password. I create a site profile in Site Manager. I set "Servertype" to "SFTP-SSH File Transfer Protocol" and logon type to "Ask for Password." I put in my username and leave the password field blank. When I log into the SFTP server, FileZilla asks for my password. I put in my secureID-generated password and choose "Remember my password for this session." Once I'm logged in, I try to upload a file, and FileZilla says, "Authentication Failed, Critical Error, Could Not Connect to Server" and asks me for a password again. I have to put in a new secureID-generated password to continue. I have to do this every time I upload, which does not make sense. I have tried other FTP clients and they remember the password for the session. Please investigate this. |

#5533 | WRT110 router - FTP upload problem - Timeouts on large files | normal | invalid | 14 years | 9 years
Description |
WRT110 router - FileZilla Client, FTP upload problem- Timeouts on large files - == When I upload files via FTP and if the transfer of a file takes more then 3 minutes, then my FTP programs doesn't jump to the next file to be uploaded when the previous one has just been finished. The problem occurs only if I connect to the internet behind my wrt110 router.
I have tried FileZilla, FTPRush and FlashFXP FTP softwares to upload via FTP.
At FileZilla sending keep-alives doesn't help,
BUT FTP upload properly works at FlashFXP if I send noop during transfer: Sending anti-idle keep alives also does not work at FlashFXP from behind wrt110 router. http://www.abload.de/img/wrt110passthrough1eq0a.jpg http://www.abload.de/img/wrt110passthrough3crrp.jpg At FileZilla I can right-click->Refresh the FTP window during transfer, but I can't do that at FlashFXP. This might be connected with the problem I have written above, I don't know. Please if you can, put similar solution into FileZilla as it is in FlashFXP. Thanks.
This is exactly what I am experiencing --> On FileZilla's site I can read this: http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Network_Configuration#Timeouts_on_large_files '''Timeouts on large files''' If you can transfer small files without any issues, but transfers of larger files end with a timeout, a broken router and/or firewall exists between the client and the server and is causing a problem. As mentioned above, FTP uses two TCP connections: a control connection to submit commands and receive replies, and a data connection for actual file transfers. It is the nature of FTP that during a transfer the control connection stays completely idle. The TCP specifications do not set a limit on the amount of time a connection can stay idle. Unless explicitly closed, a connection is assumed to remain alive indefinitely. However, many routers and firewalls automatically close idle connections after a certain period of time. Worse, they often don't notify the user, but just silently drop the connection. For FTP, this means that during a long transfer the control connection can get dropped because it is detected as idle, but neither client nor server are notified. So when all data has been transferred, the server assumes the control connection is alive and it sends the transfer confirmation reply. Likewise, the client thinks the control connection is alive and it waits for the reply from the server. But since the control connection got dropped without notification, the reply never arrives and eventually the connection will timeout. In an attempt to solve this problem, the TCP specifications include a way to send keep-alive packets on otherwise idle TCP connections, to tell all involved parties that the connection is still alive and needed. However, the TCP specifications also make it very clear that these keep-alive packets should not be sent more often than once every two hours. Therefore, with added tolerance for network latency, connections can stay idle for up to 2 hours and 4 minutes. However, many routers and firewalls drop connections that have been idle for less than 2 hours and 4 minutes. This violates the TCP specifications (RFC 5382 makes this especially clear). In other words, all routers and firewalls that are dropping idle connections too early cannot be used for long FTP transfers. Unfortunately manufacturers of consumer-grade router and firewall vendors do not care about specifications ... all they care about is getting your money (and only deliver barely working lowest quality junk). To solve this problem, you need to uninstall affected firewalls and replace faulty routers with better-quality ones. |

#1420 | Vista specific settings export failure | normal | 16 years | 16 years
Description |
Exporting of settings save dialog does not report a save failure under Vista. Filezilla indicates the save succeeded when it did not. This is NOT a problem with XP or Win 2000. The problem occurs when saving into a folder such as Program Files that requires administrator priveleges for writing a file. The Vista privelege escalation dialog goes smoothly and correctly, but the user's authorization to proceed is mishandled by Filezilla and no indication is given that the save failed. The attached screen dump shows that filezilla3a.xml existed when it didn't. It continued to not exist even after the apparently flawless save "completed". NOTE: Exporting the settings to the Documents folder of course works, and dragging the resultant file from Documents to the access restricted Filezilla Client directory works. |

I do have the default program line set to: C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe But not even this is launched. So is Filezilla not aware of system variables perhaps? The use of system variables to locate program is a valid method of using. The line stm c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe does works however. But the previous method should work too. So it's a system variable problem. I'm using Windows XP PRO sp2 BTW, the Example help text in this windows is misleading. Notepad.exe is no longer kept in c:\windows with XP. |

Screenshot of error dialog attached. My editor is Textpad 5.2.0 32-bit on Windows XP Professional. Textpad is installed in its default location. The file still loads in textpad, I can edit it, and I can save it, and it will successfully upload the changes back to the remote site prompting appropriately whether I should replace the existing file. So the View/Edit still works fine with a minor interruption from this alert. So, in priority terms, I'd classify this as low priority with a successful workaround in place. However, it's a darn annoying error which steals focus and requires me to click Ok before proceeding to the task at hand. Do with that what you will, and good luck! |

#12152 | Videos not uploading to Server completely | high | worksforme | 4 years | 4 years
Description |
I have tried to upload my videos to my server, but have come with a technical issue where the server doesn't receive all the data within those video files. They come out half-baked, so to speak. I can view the video on my server-end to a certain point before it cuts off, indicating that the video did not upload 100%, despite the server giving me a report that the uploading was successful. I used to have no problem uploading similar videos to my server until now suddenly. I think it had something to do with an update, perhaps. Nothing else has changed in my settings and content I upload before the problem occurred. My file size for my videos is on average 1-2gb, and they are in mp4 format. I still got plenty of space to go around on my server. The videos often upload until 60-70% before calling for action on my part. I can overwrite the file in which case it just starts the file uploading from the beginning until the same issue appears once again. If I press "Resume", it will simply not upload the rest of the data and claim it is finished even though it is not. Thus far I have:
I have tried every different combination possible with these settings to see if they help, but no help. When I gave the same files to my brother for him to try to upload them on the same server using his computer in a different house with his own internet and settings, he was able to upload them to 95% before hitting the same issue. He was able to get further than I ever could despite many attempts, but somehow neither of us can hit 100% upload without issues. The feedback I get on the console reads:
I hope this is enough information to get you started, but feel free to ask more information and I will provide it. |

#9964 | Video Driver interrupted. | normal | duplicate | 9 years | 9 years
Description |
My hard drive recently crashed and I had to do a factory reset to get back up and running. This also meant re-installing all the programs. (thanks to Carbonite for saving our data). After re-installing FileZilla we're now experiencing black outs as the "Display Adapter Fails" then recovers. We also use HighTail and TeamViewer with no problems. We're running a Dell quad processor machine with the standard "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family" on board video driver. The driver is current and up to date. We didn't have this problem before the crash so I can't be certain where the problem lies. My system checks out fine with all trouble shooting tools. |

#9912 | Very poor download performance since major update 3.9.0 and unresponsive GUI during file transfers | high | duplicate | 10 years | 9 years
Description |
Since the major update on FileZilla version 3.9.0 the performance became very poor and the GUI very unresponsive during file transfers. I found a similar ticket here in #9667. I tested this doing a FTP file transfer (10 simultaneous transfers) of 4403 files in 337 subdirectories with a total size of 42,3 MB with the following results: FileZilla 3.9.0.6: Took about 8 minutes to do the transfer and the GUI was very unresponsive during the transfer. FileZilla 3.8.1: Took lees than 2 minutes and the GUI was totally responsive during the whole transfer. I currently decided to roll back to version 3.8.1 until this is fixed. May I help you with further details to fix this issue? |

#10304 | Versions 10.** will not connect with my previous FTP servers | normal | rejected | 9 years | 9 years
Description |
I love FileZilla and have used this program for years. I've never had an issue until this latest batch of updates. The last version that works for me is 3.9.0.6. Anything after that installs and opens fine. However, when trying to connect to my saved website (as I always have in the past - changing nothing), I get the message that it is "Retrieving directory listing...". It sits there for almost 30 seconds, then quickly spools through a few commands and ends with the red "Error: Connection timed out" and "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing". Nothing in the settings for the connection has been changed, yet every version after the one listed gives me this problem. I have resorted to downgrading to the last working build to be able to access my websites. What is happening and how can I fix it? |

#11870 | Version 3.41.0 unusably slow | critical | fixed | 5 years | 5 years
Description |
I upgraded today to 3.41 (64-bit windows) and it is unusably slow. I estimate it is at least 100 times slower than earlier versions. For example, I regularly need to replace a complete subdirectory tree on the server and it usually takes less than second or so. With 3.41 it was taking longer than 10 minutes and barely made an impact, I gave up. I also see that I cannot just jump from one directory to another, since I now get warnings that a directory synchronisation is taking place. I wasn't sure that it was Filezilla the problem (maybe a network issue or a million other things), so I downgraded to 3.40 and all was good again. I then tried to reinstall 3.41 and all was slow again. I have now gone back to 3.40 until this gets fixed. I am a long time user and big fan of Filezilla. |

Description |
I am using the latest version of Filezilla - downloaded last night I have a problem updating WordPress to 4.8.1 I'm using Filezilla to upload the unzipped folders & etc. In the 'includes' folder, I find about 1/2 way through, I get transfer lockups that last 20 seconds, causing the agent to drop out and then automatically log back in. The file size of the locked up files is always 822,202 bytes. (attached example is only 1Kb - so the error is in either the latest Filezilla, or in my Server VPC FTP. I sent this report to my Server and he says no issue their end) I shows a 'failed file transfer' and it looks to me like those files don't upload. Is it me or is there an issue? I logged as admin at my blog www.chrisdcorran.com and that was OK I went to the Site and it was OK. I'm worried I am corrupting about 1 in four files... Files are attached: |

I have been using FileZilla 3.1.10, since May of 2008; I have recently updated the version 3.2.7.1. I have noticed that when I have multiple programs open when running the new version, my entire system crashes. It will take about four or five times of unplugging the computer to get it back up. Also once I do get up and running, I right click the file, and Download and Add files to queue, I use to be able to click on to start the file downloading.(it is now grayed out) Now I must select View/Edit to start the file downloading. The file does download but is not going to where I originally had pointed. The file being downloaded has a different filesize than what is actually being downloaded. |

When attempting to upload using FileZilla the server access does not list the directories. Unable to list directories is the error. At first I thought it was my problem then discovered after the update from my older version (3.9.0.5) is when the problem began. I rolled back to the 3.9.0.5 version and the app began to work correctly. I now ignore the prompt to update each time it loads. I have other clients that use FileZilla and I recommend to them not to update until further notice about this problem being solved. |
