Why?

Steps: 1) load filezilla 2) Using the quick link to Site Manager I select an FTP site 3) Connect to site by clicking on the name 4) connection starts

• Connection Status starts to scroll
• Status display overwrites the Quick Connect Header area, just under the icon bar.

Steps to date: 1) Discovered it with the last update, 2) downloaded the latest update (see clipboard copy) 3) Tested per steps 1 - 4 above and found the same problem.

First of all when clicking the toggle processing of the transfer queue button on the toolbar doesn't stay depressed. Also if I double click on any local file it immediately transfers the file even though the button doesn't indicate that processing is enabled AND there is no check on the Transfer > Process Queue menu item. When there are files being transferred then both button and menu change to show that they are enabled from the disabled state. So what's the point? I would like to halt all processing and set up a transfer queue and once I'm done adding and removing files from the queue, I would like to toggle the processing and let <font style='color:black; background-color:Yellow;'><font style='color:black; background-color:Yellow;'>Filezilla</font></font> do its magic.

I would also like to export/import a queue and I'm assuming that's what the menu items do but unfortunately I can't stop <font style='color:black; background-color:Yellow;'><font style='color:black; background-color:Yellow;'>Filezilla</font></font> from transferring in time to test that.

Also if I manage to quickly hit the toggle button while it's transferring I can stop it, but as soon as I add something else to the queue it start back up on its own without any indication that I want it to.

I have a LOT of sites in the site manager. When I pop down the list with the down arrow, it rolls off the bottom of the screen. It needs to determine the screen dimensions and turn on a scroll bar when the list is too long to show.

When issuing the following command for example:

start filezilla ​sftp://sfl_support_admin:m4cew1ndu@10.240.1.50/paul mannion

I get the following error: "Unexpected parameter mannion"

It works fine for directory paths with no spaces. Any help gratefully appreciated.

Upgraded FZ from 3.3.2.1 to 3.3.4.1. All my Site Manager entries were lost. Really hacked me off. Now I have to contact the various server IT personnel to retrieve login info.

Anytime i right mouse click in FileZilla it crashes the program and displays the following message ?

Windows Event Log Applicaton Error ID 1000

The inexistent folder "Feb 29 13:59 Giochi" is shown in the folder list of the remote FTP site instead of the existing one "Giochi". The error occurred for the first time in the last but one version of the filezilla client program. The only way for accessing it is to rename the inexistent folder into "Giochi". This folder contains 129 files and 47 folders. Other FTP programs (like Internet Explorer) shows and handles the folder normally.

Hi Filezilla team, thanks for development filezilla client!

But I have detected a bug in the current version 3.2.1 of filezilla client (just downloaded update before using today). Below the step-by-step description:

1) Connect to the remote server (with blank directories). 2) Select on local site a directory with subdirectories. Local directory tree is shown. 3) Select some files in the window below of the local directory tree and choose "upload" from the context menue (right mouse click). 4) Download ok. 5) Select some directories in the window below of the local directory tree and choose "upload" from the context menue. These directories contains a lot of small files (704 files in 14 directories). 6) Uploads begins to work... 7) Some files later the message window appears "Target file already exists", asking me for an action. But there is no duplicate file. The remote ftp server was empty. I didn't touch the local subdirectories while uploading.

After confirming the window the upload repeats working. In summary all files are uploaded. (I hope the contents of the files are correct, I didn't checked all files yet).

attached image shows the problem that upload progress bars and stats do not show up. download bars and stats do show up fine.

I'm able to upload to ftp sites, but when I try to download files from the same sites I receive:

Error: Failed to open "/file" for writing Error: File transfer failed

However, I'm able to use other ftp clients to upload and download to the same ftp sites. I can also successfully download the files on filezilla by using the "view/edit" option instead of the download option.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?

logged in to an FTP server file was write only (permissions 200) I tried to download it but the transfer failed then I changed permission to 600 (added read) right clicked and said view/edit default editor is notepad.exe

filezilla locked up for about umm.... 5 minutes? 10 minutes? I feel like when the connection was dropped filezilla unfroze but I can't say. Also, after 5 minutes or so I received some error from notepad but I don't recall what it said. sorry.

Hello, After connecting to a FTP-Server i have grafic errors on "quick-connect tab". All buttons are gone and i can watch in between all protokoll data. Please have a look at the screenshot. It should explain the error. Hope you can fix it ... .

When downloading a file from our 'audio out' folder the process failed when other FTP servers succeeded.

ver 3.1.3 for power pc is having startup issues.

It stops responding for a while then finall starts up. There are no error messages.

This definitely changed from 3.12

When transferring a whole directory to an empty directory on a 1GB/sec network, I will randomly get the dialog box to confirm overwrite of the existing file. (Remember that the target directory was empty originally.) I believe there is some kind of logic problem in the way the two copy threads decide which is the next file to copy. I notice this most when one thread is working on a large file and the second thread is working on a bunch of very short files.

i set up .lis and .txt files as ascii extension.

however, when i view or transfer a .lis or .log file...it comes up in binary.

therefore, the file is unreadable.

i have the transfer set to automatic as normally i am transferring a mixture of ascii and binary files.

how do i fix this?

I am using an embedded FTP server from Green Hills. It follows in the Linux tradition using a slash, '/', to separate directory levels. When I connect with FileZilla it attempts to set the working directory using backslashes, '\', which results in an error. The display shows folders with question marks. (Presumably as a consequence.) FZ then does a PWD and appears to then recognize that slashes are to be used. Subsequent commands use slashes and there are no more problems. Would it make sense to issue a PWD as soon as the connection is opened and use the response to direct how to format all future directory-related commands? See the sequence below:

Generally happy with FZ (3.5.3) but I get random corruptions on upload of PHP files to server - and then even if I delete the server file and re-upload it is still corrupt. Using another technique - eg uploading via the server's cPanel File Manager - and it works OK

The ls command is failing to retrieve the directory listing for directories that have a large number of files in them.

We tested by moving files out of the directory and then the ls command worked again. Placing the files back in the directory causes the ls to stop working. Due to this problem we are unable to retreive or put items in the FTP folder or go to any sub-folder.

We are running a GlobalScape Secure FTP server and connecting on port 22.

GlobalScape Cute FTP Pro and WSFTP Pro (newer versions) work with large directory listings.

The directory we were testing with had 323 items. (Our test removed and replaced 200 of those items)

Since I updated to 3.3.3, filename filters that use "Path">>"Contains" causes Filezilla to filter out all directories and files.

For example, I used a filter for git files "Path" "contains" ".git"

which used to filter out git folders but filters out everything.

When uploading default.vb and default.aspx files, sometimes the 2 pages get mixed up.

Browsing to www.myurl.com/default.aspx will show the text of default.vb file with all it's source code. Seems like during upload, the contents of the .vb file ends up in the .aspx file.

I was prompted to update version and my ftp connections no longer work since upgrading to version 3.5. Build date 2011-5-22.

Can you tell me how to correct this?

File transfer was not a problem except for my webpage displaying Asian characters instead of the proper text and links.

Summary Basically, in the event you have a directory containing tens of thousands of files (like a logs directory) FileZilla only shows the first 9998 files.

Steps to Reproduce

• Put 10 or 15k files in a directory
• FTP into that folder

Result: First 9998 files are listed

I wrote a crappy bash script that will create an arbitrary number of files in helping to help with reproducing this corner case of a bug: ​http://pastie.org/1875855

To use it:

• Create whatever.sh in a folder you want to test within
• Execute: chmod a+x whatever.sh to make it executable
• Run it as ./whatever.sh
• It will ask how many files you want

Other Stuff: I have reproduced this on Windows and OSX.

I can test on Linux if someone asks but I don't have a VM currently accessible so I took the lazy route :X

I'm hosting a FTP server with explicit TLS and recently enabled TLS 1.1/1.2 on it. Now a few users reported to me (and I could reproduce this) that they couldn't connect to the server due to a GnuTLS error being displayed. Other clients using GnuTLS (but those are using newer version from what they've told me) or Windows CryptoAPI/CNG (ie SmartFTP) can still connect flawlessy.

After moving the folder the file is still invisible in FileZilla.

While caching remote directory content _may_ be something sane to do, when i double click on a remote file i expect to download the latest stuff available and not what is available from filezilla cache.

If I leave FileZilla on overnight downloading and uploading files my system runs out of resources until I reboot. Other apps have problems displaying any menus as the resources have been used up and new apps cannot be loaded until system is rebooted.

sometimes filezilla client gets stuck into a mode where it refuses to:

• after changing the right side directory, update the right side
• click refresh button, refresh the right side

and I don't know if there is any particular sequence that starts this. so my best guess would be to say start looking for logic bugs.

Hi, we have been using Filezilla FTP for 12 mths with no problems. It was last used successfully Tues 18 September to upload my bridge club Mornington BC results. I have not been able to connect since then, despite repeated attempts. We have the latest version of Filezilla. Can you help? I have attached a phot of the screen with the error.

After N files transferred through sftp using FileZilla, the queue slows down. It happens when I'm transferring one file at a time or 2 files at a time or N files at a time. It usually slows down when the third or fourth file in the queue has finished transferring.

And when it's happening, all I need to do is restart the queue after a few minutes and the speed will go back to normal.

I'm using Buffalo WHR-G125, just in case it has something to do with it.

no error messages and no failed transfer files on the failed tab it happens on multi-tiered subdirectory directories, usually 2 or more deep. The application it happens on the most are zen-cart and almost all updates where you click a folder on your local PC and drop it on the ftp server. Now the error occurs so often, I have to manually click through all folders to check each folder and all its subfolders to copy the files it does NOT copy.

I dont remember this happening in the past, but i got a bug in the php application and tracked it down to a missing file. I retransfered the whole folder again, with its subdirectories and then i started checking and counting files on both ends. It consistantly does not file transfer the 2 and lower directories and worst does NOT report it that it is missing files

I use FileZilla 3.5.2 on a Linux Mint 12 (Lisa) plattform to connect to my Samsung Galaxy S2 Smartphone with Android 2.3 and the latest version of the App "Software Data Cable", which provides an FTP server for my phone's file system in my home network (over WLAN).

I can connet to the server without any problems, browse through the server file system and all folders and files are displayed correctly. However, when I want to download the content of my camera folder (about 100 JPEG-photos and 40 .mp4 video files) by marking all the files (click on first, Shift-click on the last file to be copied) and dragging them from the server folder window into the local folder window, Filezilla crashes.

I have attatched the Filezilla message log (file: "filezilla.log") which records the output from the launch up to the point when I opened the folder containing the files to download. When I dragged them over to my home folder the program crashed without any further output.

In addition to that I added a more useful log file from the gdb debugger, which shows the segmentation fault at the point of the crash. (file name: "filezilla crash.log")

I am running the Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) based "Linux Mint 12" (Lisa) 64-bit on an Acer TravelMate 5740G Notebook with an Intel Core i5-430M and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 (using the proprietary fglrx driver for it). I also use the proprietary driver for the Broadcom WLAN card (package name is simply "wlan").

There is one web host provider that I cannot upload anything to any of the sites they host while using my iPhone as a modem. I have contacted them and they are baffled by this issue and they too would like to know what the problem/solution may be. I have no problem uploading anywhere else (other sites and web host companies). It is only their clients sites that I cannot upload to.

I CAN upload to these problem sites when I am connected to other Internet providers (e.g. free wireless locations) only not when I am connected to my iPhone.

The error messages I get are: Error: Could not read from socket: ECONNRESET - Connection reset by peer Error: Disconnected from server Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Using my iPhone as a modem I CAN connect to other web host providers, just not this particular company.

Any insight?

I have problem where we run a CAD program CATIA V4 on AIX Unix. We would like to use FileZilla to tranfer the some of these file when needed for PC CAM software, Windows 2003 R2 Servers.

The problem is CATIA use a Special Symbol Character in the Unix file name which in windows is ALT 0177 (plus,minus on top of each other).

When we try to tranfer these files using FileZilla we get error, "Error: Critical file transfer error"

These Symbol Charcter can be renamed to spaces in file names would be file or _.

We have several AIX servers running as FTP servers and using WU-FTPD, the same version of AIX and WU-FTP for all. We have clients connecting to our servers with Filezilla but the display for the filenames is off. The columns for the filename included the filename plus the filesize and the modified time so when they go to download they get message that the file doesn't exist. In some cases there are invalid characters in the name.

When using DOS command line there are no issues, everything shows correctly so I know it is an issue with the display of host type or character set or something. I have seen similar issues on the forum but have not found a solution. I have tried changing the host type and forcing the UTF-8 character display but nothing has worked.

Is there a fix for this or a parser that can be run to display the columns properly?

Just upgraded Ubuntu to 11.04 from 10.10.

I had no issue with Filezilla at all on 10.10. Now random freezes occur which make Filezilla totally unresponsive and require a restart, the app won't terminate normally when locked up.

I can't identify a specific action that can cause it - its appears to be random.

I've been trying to get FileZilla (v.3.5.3) through to tripod.com in order to upload my files to my website located there (​http://australianart.tripod.com/). Tripod assert, over and over, that they can ftp access my website without any problems from their end. However I cannot access my website and have been trying for over 3 weeks now without success and always with the below-listed error message:

i did use the latest filezilla 3.2.1 and it still crashes.

I have many files on my ftp server that filezilla can "see" but when I want to either erase them, back them up, or rename them, I get the error message that the files do not exist. (550 Sorry, but that file doesn't exist) When I first try to highlight the file, the space does not show up at all. I only realized there was a space before the file name when I used the program ws_ftp professional. When I renamed the file by taking out the space, it worked on ws_ftp professional and I was able to then access the file with filezilla.

I am using 3.5.3 on Windows 7 (32-bit).

Whenever I login a FTP site, the message box will show the system message but it will roll up and crash the icon bar and menu bar, making icon bar and menu bar invisible. If I use a mouse to move over those icons or menu, that part will display the original graphic.

Seems the message box buffer display size is larger than the message box area.

Usage of german (öäü) umlauts in proxy user passwords produce an error in FileZilla. If the proxy user password contains such umlauts a "normal" could not connect message is shown.

If the proxy user password doesn't contain umlauts it works normally again.

I have a ftp server (vsftpd) on a Amazon Web Services EC2 virtual machine in a production environment. It's behind a Load Balancer, I access it using filezilla in passive mode for datas (vsftpd is configured to give the direct ip instead of using the load balancer for datas). Data and control channel thus have different ips. I use classic ftp (no ssl or whatever).

After exactly 60 seconds of transfer (upload or download, juste big enough to last more than 60seconds) i get a "server closed connection" error, for any version of filezilla (>=3) that didnt segfault i tried. But VSFTPD never actually closed the connection...

I looked into filezilla source code, the problem seems to come around in src/engine/ftpcontrolsocket.cpp. There is a control that seems to provoke the bug in CFtpControlSocket::OnReceive... By commenting it the problem disappear

the transfers stall a few seconds in the end of the transfer (it might be this test purpose) but i dont lose my connexion and the file transfered is ok.

Without the ELB (using the same ip for control and data) i dont get the initial problem.

I have noticed that I cannot depend upon Filezilla to upload files reliably. I just spent an hour with GoDaddy technical support to discover that even though my FileZilla upload screen showed (RH panel)that files were being uploaded, that they were in fact noton the destination server.

I verified this with GoDaddy's FTP program and also the CoffeeCup FTP program

When I connect to a FTP site and I start with remotely renaming a file FILE1.TC to FILE1.TC1, immediately followed by uploading a file called FILE1.TC, the connection appears to have been lost.

My system: P/C with Windows 7, 64 bit version. FileZilla version 3.6.0

After I get notification to update my FileZilla Client from 3.5.3 to 3.6 and confirm that, new installation put files into "Program Files (x86)" - before update I have files in "Program Files" (default x64). I check the new version and that seems to be compiled for x86_64. In fact I have two copies of FileZilla Client files, old x64 v. 3.5.3 and new 3.6 in program files for x86. I have to update my shortcuts on the desktop to new file localization. I have to manually delete old file. Installation wizard did't recognize my system version - x64. I can change it under installation but default it was x86 and I think it was x86 version.

I have Windows 8 Pro x64.

If the setting for Connection/Generic Proxy/Proxy Host has a trailing space, FileZilla does not connect. Similar to #1054.

Hi, I am using version 3.6.0.1. There is a GUI issue related to refresh the Quickconnection bar, after the connection to the server has been establish. The refresh doesn't occur. It is done when changing focus to another task then coming back to Filezilla i.e. repaint it (see attached screen copy) Thank you for this so usefull software.

Since 3.3.2 I get "Directory listing failed"

FileZilla (newest versions) fails to connect to a VSFTPD server (2.1.2) using the standard timeout of 20 seconds in standard FTP mode on Windows XP machines. Clients never 'touch' the server as far as server logging is concerned and shows 'connection timed out could not connect to server'. Server is running RedHat Enterprise v5 patched as needed. Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 #1 SMP

1. Increasing the client side timeout to 30 seconds allows the clients to connect, but directory displays and other actions are sluggish.
2. This occurs on previously installed and used FileZilla clients, even those that have been uninstalled and reinstalled.
3. NEW/Fresh (never before installed) installs of FileZilla on Windows XP/Vista machines connect to the server quickly and flawlessly every time with the stock 20 second timeout.
4. We have turned OFF firewalls on the server side, no effect.
5. Disabled firewalls on Windows machines, no effect.
6. Using other FTP clients (cuteFTP, NCFTP, and command line clients) on the effected machines provides clean/quick FTP connections. Only FileZilla seems to have this problem.
7. This is occurring from various locations, and connection types so its not related to a particular network or location on the client side.
8. Problem can be reproduced every time.

When connecting to either a single or multiple servers, the user interface above the message log (the toolbar) randomly disappears. In order to get it back, I have to hover my mouse cursor over the toolbar to get individual buttons back.

This only happens with the OpenCrystal theme. With every other theme, this does not happen.

Hello, I need your kind support in the following matter: I have downloaded from an ftp site a suite of 6 files that all together are forming a DCP cinema trailer. Download went well, no errors. However, at the cinema while trying to ingest the suite, the server reported some errors in terms of different file sizes than expected. Checking again with FileZilla and downloading again I've noticed the resulted files have in deed different sizes than their sources on the ftp. I have then accessed the same ftp with the browser (Mozilla) and downloaded in that way. All ok with these files.

Question: why is this happening ? What can be done to solve this ? It didn't happened with the big files (1GB) but with small (9KB), control files which are however essential to play correctly the trailer. If needed I can send you both wrong and correct files.

I am trying to use Filezilla 3.6.2 with Putty-CAC for authentication. However, anytime I try to connect to our server Pageant seems to fail to communicate as I get a password prompt. It should be using my cert I have in pageant but it is not communicating with it.

The last version of Filezilla that will work with Putty-CAC without any problems is 3.5.3. I really would like to be able to upgrade Filezilla but I can not do so because we have to use Putty-CAC. So my question is can support be added in these newer version to support Putty-CAC once again? What changed from 3.5.3 to newer versions for it to stop working?

Open MENU Edit > Settings > Interface > File lists. Define double-click action as "View/Edit". Double-click any html or php file in order to edit it.

This works fine as long as there is a connection to the server. But if FileZilla is not connected to a server the following error message is shown:

I often want to edit a file before establishing the connection to the server. In my opinion it does not make sense that local editing of a file is only possible if a connection to the server exists.

Attempts to connect to ftp-dom.earthlink.net continuously do not connect. I can connect to all other FTP servers I need to, but not Earthlink. The administrator tells me there have been no changes.

We use Quest Authentication Services (QAS) on unix to authenticate users. Using filezilla 3.0.6.2 (client) on windows 7. Trying to connect to UNIX HPUX Version 11.31 running Quest Authentican Services for login authentication

I am unable to connect to my seedbox at ... ​ftp://hawk.seedcafe.info port 53421.

This leaves me unable to transfer any files from the box. Can you help.

I use Filezilla 3.5.0, my OS is Windows 7 . In Edit/Settings, I sepcify "use custom editor" and select Notepad++ using the Browse button and use filetype associations if available Click OK However when I view, edit a file, it opens it with Notepad, as opposed to Notepad++.

Prior to 3.3.3, right-clicking on a local file used to open that file for editing with the Custom Editor I had specified in "Edit > Settings > File editing > Default editor".

This functionality only returned after I selected "Edit > Settings > File editing > Always use default editor"

Downloaded 3.5.2_i686-apple-darwin9.app from FileZilla-project.org. Upon attempt to open the app received the message: "You can't open the application FileZilla_3.5.2-i686-apple-darwin9.app because it may be damaged or incomplete."

I searched the bug reports and forum for this problem and only found on the forum to compare the checksum of the file with that of the FileZilla Project checksum.

I'm currently running 3.5.1 and it works fine so I tried to download 3.5.1 and got the same message when I tried to open it.

Recently, do not know when it really started, I use it daily. Maybe 5 days ago now, I have Filezilla on the task bar which I hit and it always popped right up. Everything on there pops right up. But recenlty, it can take up to 45 seconds for it to start. Any idea what has happen. It does come up, but takes so long to start, you think you didn't hit the icon, so I hit it again. Then I end up with 2 of them. Any idea what is wrong.This is the only program that is slow like this. I tons of memory, 12 gig, 12 CPU cores, should not be doing that. Do I need to reload it. Do not think this is associated with any recent updates.

OS: WinXPSP3 Processor: Intel Core 2 RAM: 2GB Filezilla version: 3.5.3 (latest) AV: ESET NOD32

Problem: Filezilla crashes instantly on launch.

Filezilla was on 3.5.2 when this problem started. It had worked OK for about two months, up until two days ago. Nothing has been installed since then, and no Filezilla settings were changed. Today, it would not start up from the desktop shortcut. There was a brief jagged flash across the screen for a fraction of a second. No disk activity. Nothing in Task Manager. No MS crash message. Re-installed latest version 3.5.3 over the top. Worked OK once. Able to upload a file. Closed Filezilla. Tried to open it again - behaviour the same as before with brief flash on screen then nothing. Have tried a full uninstall, restart and re-install. No better. Tried renaming the C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\FileZilla folder (as suggested on another ticket). No better. Can't find any existing tickets that match this behaviour. Some tickets refer to being able to pick up Filezilla using ALT+TAB, but this does not happen in this case. Note: was re-installed with "all users" option, but Filezilla folder was found in the individual current user folder under C:\Documents and Settings\, not the all users folder.

When a folder has more than 10,000 files FileZilla count and list them to 9,998 files after that file are not counted and showed.

Take a text file encoded in utf-8 containing non-ascii characters with a .txt extension and upload it to a server with FileZilla with the transfer mode set to "AUTO".

Expected: the transfer mode should be set to whatever is correct, the upload should be done correctly, and the uploaded file should be ok

Observed: the "A" (ASCII) transfer mode is automatically selected and the uploaded file is somehow corrupted.

I'm not sure whether uploading an utf-8 text file in ASCII mode is supposed to work or not (i guess not). If it is not, then selecting ASCII mode is wrong, and the Binary mode should be selected for utf8 text files when the mode is set to Auto. If it is supposed to work, then FileZilla does it incorrectly.

Curiously enough, _downloading_ utf8-encoded text files in auto mode does work correctly (and the ASCII mode is selected automatically, again curiously), here the behavior of the server may be involved.

Open Site Manager, click Cancel, Ok (any button) and FileZilla closing

I repeat the requests of the numereous tickets years ago: This is not a new feature it is simply a BUG.

This basically very easy to use and very good product is totally unusable without secure password storage. Pls., pls. concentrate to improve as fast as possible. I couldnt believe, that the passwords are stored as more or less plain text. SFTP???? Regards Plusminus P.S. Pls.!

When setting up a filter condition using "filesize" user is allowed to enter a number (e.g. 3). This number represents a filesize, but, unfortunately it is not clear which unit is considered. MB/KB/...?

Moreover, if a user explicitly states the unit in the filter condition's input box (e.g. 3MB) the filter condition fails to validate.

SUGGESTION: Either suggest to user which unit is considered when entering filesize, or allow user to explicitly state or choose the unit.

LOCATION: "Site manager" dialog box, bottom-right "Copy" button under the left-hand browser panel.

ISSUE: The function performed by "Copy" button is different from the commonly known "copy" function (from Copy/cut/paste set of commands) which might be confusing to users.

In "site manager", "Copy" button performs "make a copy" or "duplicate" function. In contrast, commonly seen "copy" command performs "copy to clipboard" function.

SOLUTION SUGGESTION: Re-labelling the "Copy" button to: "Duplicate"

OPINION: In common English the verb "to copy" actually fits well the function "site manager's" "copy" button performs (i.e. creating a duplicate or a facsimile), right? But unfortunately, this verb entered computer GUI terminology as short for "copy to clipboard". Beh...

ISSUE: Dragging a file or a folder onto itself in local and remote filelists and tree-views results in inconsistent behavior from FileZilla.

a) Behavior when dragging directories in tree views: REMOTE TREE VIEW: Dragging a directory onto itself in remote tree-view: "Message: A directory cannot be dragged into one of its subdirectories." LOCAL TREE VIEW: "Error 13: permission denied" when dragging a system folder and "Error 22: invalid argument" when dragging a "regular" folder.

b) Behavior when dragging directories in filelists: REMOTE FILELIST: Dragging a file onto itself: "Message: Source and target of the drop operation are identical". Dragging a directory onto itself: "Message: A directory cannot be dragged into one of its subdirectories."

LOCAL FILELIST: Dragging a file onto itself: nothing happens (this is expected behavior). Dragging a directory onto itself: "Error 22: invalid argument" or "Error 13: permission denied", depending on permissions.

SOLUTION SUGGESTION: When a file or directory is dragged onto itself error message boxes don't have to appear at all. Dragging a file or a directory onto itself in any situation should not result in any feedback from from FileZilla. i.e. FileZilla should ignore any attempt to drag a file or a directory onto itself.

RATIONALE: I believe that the suggested behavior is common across many windowed platforms that use tree-views and file lists for file management. Dragging a file onto itself can be considered involuntary or accidental action. This kind of accidental action is especially common with users using pen tablets where a click with the pen tip often is accompanied with some dragging motion.

Additionally, removing the message/error boxes would streamline the interaction for the user a little, and also reduce a couple of GUI points that demand translation and maintenance.
