#7338 | ASCII Mode Enhancement Request | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I've come across a situation that can't be all that uncommon, in which the FileZilla client's ASCII mode is insufficient. Like many people I use Cygwin with Windows. When I create a text file using Cygwin Emacs, it's a UNIX file (EOL = LF). When I then try to use the Windows client to transmit the file in ASCII mode, it doesn't get converted to NetASCII's EOL = CRLF because the client only knows about Windows text files (EOL = CRLF). There's an analogous situation under Linux, which can mount drives having different filesystems including Windows drives. When I try to send a Windows file using the Linux client I have the same difficulty (presumably, although I haven't tried this one). What's needed is a way to specify which conversions to make when sending ASCII files: CR, LF, and/or CRLF (which is just passed through). I suppose the OS default EOL should always be converted. And on receiving ASCII files, a way to control what to use for EOL: CR, LF, or CRLF. |

#7343 | Filezilla does not correctly recognise existing processes for view/edit file | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Example repro steps: 1) Upload a c# file (foo.cs) to a remote server. 2) On the local machine ensure that Visual Studio is associated with the '.cs' extension (right-click on file, choose 'Open-with->Choose-default program->Visual Studio' 3) Restart Visual studio and close the foo.cs editing tab. 4) Use filezilla to view/edit the remote copy of foo.cs (right-click and select 'view/edit'). Each time you do this, an additional Visual Studio process is opened. (Oddly, foo.cs appears to be opened in both the existing process and the new process.) By contrast, if you double-click on the local copy of foo.cs from windows explorer, it opens in the existing Visual Studio process,as expected. Although the recipe above uses Visual Studio, you can see the same behaviour for any application or file-type. Filezilla help/version info: FileZilla Client Version: 3.4.0 Build information:

#7346 | incomplete and corrupt file transfer | new | Bug report | high | FileZilla Client
Description |
Filezilla version: 3.4.0 Compiled an executable on linux using:
when I upload the file to an embedded linux system, t is not complete and some of the bytes that is transfered, is not the same as the original ones. original: size = 93117 bytes remote: size = 92867 bytes But if I change the name of the file to t.run, then the transfer is ok! Used ghex to compare original and remote version. It is the same at file start but after a while they differ, so its not just a truncated file transmission. Attached files: 1) original file: t.original 2) remote file: t.remote Kind regards, Mattias Aronsson P.S. Your ftp client is really nice looking! D.S. |

#7353 | Target file already Exists popup when uploading file. | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Hello, reporting a bug with the current version of Filezilla (3.5.0) however it was happening in version 3.40 and one versio before that, which I can't tell you what it was. When uploading a new file (File size doesn't matter) to an FTP site, either dragging through the file manager to the remote file manager, or right clicking on the file and selecting upload, the transfer starts and then then the initial file creation happens, with the name of the file and zero (0) bytes is loaded to the server, and you're prompted with a Windows Popup that states, Target file already exists; It then gives you options and after 15 to 20 seconds, it cylcles and pops up again. This happens multiple times. I thought I had run out of disk space, I checked the server and there was plenty. I also checked using standard FTP from a command prompt and that worked just fine. As did using IE 8 using the same user credentials. I know this was working on my system, about 3 weeks ago, when I last uploaded to this server, and I was trying to remember what might have changed, and then it clicked. To improve security on my system, I created a new Administrator account to logon with should I need to install anything and downgraded the account that I was using from and "Adminsitrator" account to a "Standard" account. This way, if a virus should try and take over my machine, it'll force the system to prompt for the Local Administrator account password. I changed my account back to an "Administrator" and sure enough, I was able to upload files without any issue. It seems as though FileZilla requires the local user to have administrative priveledges. I know the problem isn't with my server, as it uploaded fine with Command Line based FTP and IE 8 without issue, even though it was much more cumbersome. When I changed the account to an Administrative account, it worked as expected. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit (Build 6002) 12 GB RAM and a 1.8TB Drive using RAID 5 on the Intel Southbridge Platform. This isn't a server problem. This a client not having interactive administrative permission's with the OS at some level. I was able to change my account through the user accounts control panel applet to an "Administrator". Exit out of FileZilla and go back in and the problem is resolved. I'm trying to run as a standard user to prevent virus and malware infections. I've attached a file with the trace of my upload, shuold that help determine what may be going on. I did the trace with two different files, on that was 2.2K the other was about 150MB. Please let me know if you need any further information. |

#7366 | Filter button GUI inconsistency | new | Feature request | low | FileZilla Client

Proximity of these two buttons along with their similar function but inconsistent behaviour makes them ergonomical nightmare as user needs to try what will actually happen when he l/r clicks one of buttons. I use these buttons almost constantly and still don't intuitively remember what will happen if I left click the filter button. |

#7371 | Command line option to bring up an Enter Password dialog. | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I searched, but didn't see that this has been previously requested...should be fairly easy to implement... Request: Provide a command line option to force FileZilla to bring up a password or login dialog before connecting to URL specified on the command line. Reason: I have a need to, and suppose others do to, for being able to launch FileZilla from a script, directing it to a certain URL, "protocol://username@site/subdirectory", and then asking for a password. For many good reasons, I do not want to plain-text the password within the script, nor do I want to ask for or include it on the command line. Instead, I would like a way to have FileZilla start-up and ask for the password prior to connecting to the URL/site. This might best be implemented generically as a command line option that brings up a login dialog, asking for username and password, with username already filled in if it was specified on the command line. |

Hi, i have many connections to different server, with the same credentials (ldap / active directory). So when i change my monthly password, this is kinda cumbersome to change every password on every connection. This only needs to be setup / changed once, working for all connections. tia, Myron |

#7377 | Nervewrecking error popups when forcing win proprietary encoding | new | Bug report | high | FileZilla Client
Description |
I'm using filezilla 3.5.0 to connect to an ftp server which is also used as a ms windows remote drive, thus file encoding must be the one used by the windows "remote mount" dialog (where it cannot be configured). Since the machine is used by German locale clients, the right encoding is "Cp850", and up- and downloading using this configuration works with files containing e.g. umlauts. Filezilla however displays nerve-wrecking error pop-ups "cannot convert from the charset Cp850", which is simply wrong. |

Some, but not all FTP sites have been setup on the proxy as 'no-auth required' sites for various reasons.. some apps (mainframe) cant handle proxy auth. It would be nice to have an option to 'use custom ftp proxy without auth' I still need filezilla to know the format the proxy will accept the creds but the proxy its self bombs out if you pass creds to it when the site is a 'no-auth' site.. I would think this option would go next to the option of 'dont use proxy' for this site but would be an additional box that said use custom ftp proxy without auth? There are options to re-write how the proxy rules work but seems like there is no option in the client to do what I'm asking. I cant even set the custom proxy up without a login/pass for a 1 time use test.. |

#7433 | Slow startup and local path changes due to querying excessive folders | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I have noticed slow cold startup times (e.g. 15-60 seconds) for FileZilla on several computers. During startup, the hard drive is constantly being accessed. Therefore, I ran Sysinternals' Process Monitor to debug the issue. I found that the majority of the startup time appears to be spent querying the Windows Cookies folder: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Cookies The query takes a long time when you have a lot of cookies in the folder (e.g. hundreds or thousands). I have over 3000. Obviously, I could clear the Cookies folder to work around the issue. However, users shouldn't have to clear their Internet Explorer/Windows cookies to obtain reasonable FileZilla startup performance. Furthermore, I'm not sure why FileZilla is querying that folder at all. I took a quick look at the source code and couldn't see any reference to the Cookies folder. Perhaps some API/library used by FileZilla is doing the deed. If necessary, I suspect the issue can be reproduced by placing a few thousand small files in the Windows Cookies folder and rebooting to ensure the directory is not cached by Windows. This issue may explain some of the reports in Ticket #3267. I created this new ticket because most people in that discussion seemed to think that network drives were at fault. Please let me know if you require any additional information. Thanks! Running: -FileZilla Client 3.5.0 -Athlon II X4 640 |

#7436 | Failed recursive directory upload | new | Bug report | high | FileZilla Client
Description |
case: filezilla 3.5, ssh connection, uploading whole directory It seems that filezilla improperly handles the response to the SSH_FXP_REALPATH command. According to the ssh drafts the server can reply with the the SSH_FXP_STATUS upon failure (Specified file path is invalid. reason=2; File not found reason=2) and from then on it is client responsibility to act upon those responses. Server side responses: Sending SSH_FXP_STATUS: : /00149642: Specified file path is invalid. reason=2 Sending SSH_FXP_STATUS: : File not found reason=2 Usually when a directory does not exist on the remote server, the client will receive such error message and then should issue the make directory. #7441 | Allow Indexing All Drives Dynamically | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Server
Description |
I know that individual drives can be linked via virtual path names from the home directory. This is fine if one has only a few static drives, but sometimes the drive situation is more dynamic. I would very much like to see Filezilla Server able to create a drive list in the home directory. Such a list would contain only currently mounted drives (those with a drive letter). This would allow accessing drives that aren't always plugged in without having to leave many (often dead) virtual paths to those drives. Thank you for your consideration. |

#7455 | Enable use of idle or browsing connection to download files | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
It would be beneficial to download and user interaction response times if FileZilla could reuse the browsing connection (the first connection made and browsed with) to initiate file transfers, and open a second connection to resume browsing until the transfers have completed. This arose from my use of a ssh+ftp connection which has very quick transfer times but was very slow to establish connections. With this connection policy/option available a simple two-file grab could be much quicker, and by automatically opening a connection before the user browses to the next directory you minimize overall delays experienced by the user. |

And while I could try to set up a tunnel some other way outside of FileZilla, that tends to be more of a nuissance. Ideally, if FileZilla could read my ~/.ssh/config file and take advantage of the hosts and settings I had set up in there, it would be a nice thing to have. |

#7720 | Tree view lazy loading improvement | new | Feature request | low | FileZilla Client
Description |
In the remote tree view.. it would be useful that when a leaf (a folder) is clicked or expanded ('+' icon).. the subfolders underneath show the '+' icon if they contain at least one subfolder. That way you can navigate in the folder structure quickly with less clicks. Right now, I have to press the folder with a '?' sign, wait a bit, then I can expand it. That behavior could be optional and configurable in the settings. |

#7721 | File Import Setting Changes Edit Setting Transfers File Types but lost on restart | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
FileZilla allows you to export Settings to an xml file (File | Export Settings). This works. You can export settings on one PC (Windows Server 2003 in my case) and then import (File | Import Settings) the xml file on another PC (Windows 7 Professional 64 bit in my case). This part looks like it works, but it does not work 100%. Let me explain. The import updates your Edit | Setting | Transfers | File Types ascii list and the change works when you do an automatic mode transfer (Transfer | Transfer Type | Auto). However, if you close and reopen the Filezilla Client, your changes to the File Types ascii list are lost. To Test . Export your settings. . Delete one of your ascii File Types, e.g. bat . Close and reopen Filezilla Client . Go to File Types ascii list, bat is not there, great. . Now import your settings that you exported earlier. . Go to File Types ascii list, bat is there now, great. . transfer a bat file to a UNIX box in auto mode, great, that works. . Close and reopen Filezilla Client . Go to File Types ascii list, bat is not there, BUMMER. The settings that you import are lost on restart. This is a pain, if you are trying to use the same "standard" File Types definition at more than one location. If this worked, it would make it a lot easier to use automatic mode for a mixed bag of ascii and binary file types. Youp would be able to get repeatable results. A separate issue is a feature request: to allow the user to choose to remove items from the Files Types List when importing a Setting XML file, if those files are no in the XML that you are importing, but are in your existing File Types List. Not havign this feature, means that you have to empty your Files Types List before importing the XML or manually delete unwanted file types before or after importing the XML. |

#7735 | Automatic selection of parallel upload transfers | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I had been testing different scenarios of uploading a bunch of files with different network connections (wlan and eth) and have a good idea for improving upload speed.
So with this data I suggest to have a configuration that would enable "automatic" parallel handling that would work as follows: Configuration needed: 1.-Threshold to consider a file small (called A) 2.-Maximum number of threads to enable if procceeds (called B, can be taken from global config) Suggested behaviour WITH this new option enabled: 1.-Sort all upload list by size (asc or desc) 2.-Start transfer:
I tested this scenario locally connected directly by ethernet cable, and by wireless lan, and in both cases, speed improvement was really really significant. So what about having it in config so this can be done automatically? |

#7740 | Snap panels (message log, transfer queue) to left and right of screen | new | Feature request | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Greetings. Like many people, I'm now using a widescreen monitor. Currently my FileZilla client is split into four horizontal panels: message log, directory trees, file listings, and transfer queue. As a result these panels are all very short and wide. It seems the space would be better used if the GUI allowed me to snap the panels to the sides of the screen, so that (for example) I could have the message log along the left, or the transfer queue along the right, or both. Then I would have four columns: message log, local tree/files, remote tree/files, and transfer queue, and there would still be plenty of horizontal room. Alternately, I could leave the log and the queue at the top and bottom, and have the directory trees to the left of their respective file listings rather than above them. A good example of this behaviour can be found in most IDEs, which tend to have a lot of different panels available, but are flexible in how they can be arranged. You can dock them to an edge of the screen, or split them with another panel already docked to that edge, etc. Just a suggestion. I love using FileZilla, and an improvement like this would only make me happier. saltire |

#7759 | User Experience Problem - move right click's Reset & Requeue up one | new | Feature request | high | FileZilla Client
Description |
Hi, I'm always scared that I'll completely remove a failed file transfer because of a problem with the user interface. Basically, when a file fails, it goes into the failed tab - as you know! You then right click it and there are a list of options. The first option is 'Remove', the second option is 'Reset/Requeue'. Great. Now, it goes to the Queued files area. You right click again - but 'Process Queue' is in the first position - on the other tab, 'Remove' is in the first position. It would be nice if 'remove' was the SECOND right click option on the 'Failed Transfer' tab, as it would create a better User Experience and make it easier to requeue and restart the failed file. I hope this makes sense! I can include screenshots if not. I've ranked this as high as new users may expect these options to be in the first position, and may accidentally remove failed files (and it's almost impossible to tell which were removed if there are a lot). Thanks!! :) Great software. |

#7763 | Downloaded files on large number of files transfer end up in wrong folder | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I was downloading a Joomla website with a reasonably large amount of temporary files to my local computer. The total number of files moved was 7,079. However, the folder structure on the target side is not the same as the on the source size and files seem to have ended up in random locations. It looks like that the 'active' folder for the file transfer was set to whatever the 'active' folder was for the thread that was queueing all the files to be processed. For example. I have a folder "templates" on the source side, with subfolders "beez", "ja_purity", etc. But on the target side, the "templates" folder does not have any subfolders, but has just contains a few files "blogger.php", "blogger.xml" and a few more, that should be in "plugins./xmlrpc". The "beez" and "ja_purity" folders have ended up within the "tmp" folder instead of in "templates" on the target side. But then have subfolders themselves that are in the tmp folder on the source side. I have the max simultaneous transfers set to 1. The source server is a Linux machine, running Apache 2.2.3. The target machine is a Windows 7 one. |

I was just wondering if you couldn't change how FileZilla deletes files recursively but also CHMOD as this is pretty much the same thing. If you mark a folder and press delete, FZ scans the folders content and deletes the files one at a time. When using SFTP I am sure that the fastest solution would be "rm -r FOLDER" The same thing goes for CHMOD where Linux incorporates a recursive function into the command too. "chmod -R FOLDER" So everytime I delete a folder I am thinking "Why am I wasting my time on this, when I could do it 100 times quicker on SSH?" |

#7847 | FileZilla client sometimes does not send PASV, LIST -a after receiving LIST response | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
Sometimes FileZilla will - on repeated connections - fail to issue the PASV and LIST -a commands despite geting a "226 Transfer complete." after a LIST command. This happens on the same server, same remote directory, same conditions as when it works, but when this happens, it almost always continues, each time I abort session and reconnect, or when I restart FileZilla. I have had to reboot the computer, which solved the issue on several occasions. Only once did it work again without a reboot, after 3-5 times reopening and re-trying with FileZilla, then taking a break, before trying again. It appears to be the client not responding to the LIST command response, as normally the client should issue PASV in response to "226 Transfer complete." For example: Status: Resolving address of ########.### Status: Connecting to ##.##.##.##:21 Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220 Microsoft FTP Service Command: USER ########## Response: 331 Password required for ##########. Command: PASS * Response: 230 User ########## logged in. #7853 | Multiple FTP Transfers and Speed Limits. | new | Bug report | normal | FileZilla Client
Description |
I routinely start 6-8 long parallel file transfers from my ONE host to my local PC. In general this works very well, including respecting any up/down speed limits that I set. However, there is one specific case where this breaks down. The transfers seem to "set max their speed" when they are started, some are slow, some are fast. The first ones that start usually run very fast, the others usually end up going much slower. The problem being that after the fast ones finish first, the slow ones do use the extra bandwidth and continue running as slowly as if there were other fast transfers still present. This means the slower transfers take a VERY long time to finish even though there is plenty of unused bandwidth available. They never increase their speed up to the speed limit once the other transfers complete. All of the active transfers should adjust up to use available bandwidth equally, and dynamically increase/decrease speed as transfers come/go. |

The file download progress bar that appears at the bottom takes the size of file to be 250 MB only and shows 100 % completed when only half the file (250 MB) has been downloaded. Though the complete file downloads to the other terminal, for half the time, progress bar says that the download is 100 % completed. Thanks |
