#8408 Freeing the "transfert done" list from 100'000+ files takes 5 minutes new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I sucessfully transfered more than 100'000 files from an archive to local. The log pannel of sucessful transfers contains the 100'000 names of files. I select all the log by ctrl-a and press the del key.

It takes about 5 minutes to clear the list - a huge time.

Observation: at the beginning of the freeing, memory is released by 5ko/interval (monitoring the processes), than by 24 ko/interval and finally at 200ko/interval. I bet that the algorithm used fro freeing the list and memory is not optimal.

The same "long time" was observed at least 3 times and is always present.

When the list is "short", the time is short - a few seconds or so. Is a much faster ?

#8409 Stopping the treatment of the queue dosn't stop distant site tree exploration new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I tried to stop both the files' downloading and the exploration of the tree (huge, more than 8 minutes) of the distant site using a ctrl-p. It effectively stopped the downloading of files, but not the tree exploration.

Is there a facility to stop the tree exploration from the distant site ?

#8411 Remove clients "local" pane, add vertical directory tree new Patch normal FileZilla Client
Description

I was hoping that this could be implemented. I see that tateu updated 3.5.3 but it doesn't work for the latest 3.6.0.2 version. Can someone create a patch please?

It would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

#8418 "Transfer Queue Process" toggle button doesn't retain visual state on theme change new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

Subject pretty much says it all. I have an active file transfer, and then I go to Edit -> Settings and pick a new Theme, and then hit OK.

I am returned to the main window, but the "Process Queue" toggle button has lost its state and appears in the "off" position (not-pressed).

I only had a single file in the queue and it was already in progress, so I'm not sure if this was simply cosmetic (the rest of the queue would've completed) or if the Process Queue setting actually got frobbed.

Client details below.

#8424 "Always upload this file" option when editing/updating new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

Thanks for FileZilla client - great software; I just made a donation.

When editing a file, my workflow is like this: 1) Edit file 2) Switch to FileZilla to upload 3) Switch to browser to test impact 4) Switch back to editor

If FileZilla's "Do you want to upload this file?" box had a "Always upload this file" checkbox that could last for the session's duration, then that would be great and save some time.

Thank you for considering the idea.

#8427 PAPERCUT: Only the very top of the FileZilla title bar is draggable on OSX new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

On any other Mac program, the entire grey title/toolbar can be clicked and dragged. In FileZilla, only the very top portion works as it should. This often leads to the cursor arrow sliding off and moving something in the window below.

#8461 Directory tree view is not refreshed after dragging folders. new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

CONDITIONS: Create 2 folders, e.g. TEST1 and TEST2. Use directory tree pane to drag TEST2 onto the TEST1 folder. As when trying to move a folder inside another folder. Although the folder TEST2 is successfully moved to TEST1 using this approach, the TEST2 folder's icon will still remain where it was. Resulting in seemingly 2 TEST2 folders. (please reference the submitted image).

When this happens, slicking 'Refresh' will not help as long as the original TEST2 folder icon is highlighted.

#8466 FTP URL in Quick Connect should open directory/download file new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Right now, it's nice that you can put FTP URLs in the quickconnect bar, but the functionality isn't quite usable.

For example, if you copy ftp://190.144.167.33/planificacion/VAD&Hepp/Metodo-participativo-VAD.pdf from your browser and you want to download it in filezilla. When you paste it in the quick connect "host" field, you get the following error:

Connecting to 190.144.167.33:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220-Microsoft FTP Service Status: Connected Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: CWD /planificacion/VAD&Hepp/Metodo-participativo-VAD.pdf Response: 550 /planificacion/VAD&Hepp/Metodo-participativo-VAD.pdf: The directory name is invalid. Command: PWD Response: 257 "/" is current directory.

Ideally, it would CDW TO /planificacion/VAD&Hepp/ then start a download of Metodo-participativo-VAD.pdf

Shouldn't FileZilla only try the key file reflecting the login name instead of trying them all?

#8478 ftp/s does not support certificate-auth (no password) new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla does not appear to support client-certificate auth (no password) mode. Examples where this does work via cURL include:

curl -v -k --ftp-ssl --ftp-pasv --disable-epsv --key userkey.pem --cert usercert.pem ftp://user@server

curl -v -k --tlsv1 --ssl --ssl-reqd --ftp-alternative-to-user "SITE AUTH" --disable-epsv --ftp-skip-pasv-ip --key userkey.pem --cert usercert.pem ftp://server

I can provide output and trace logs if desired, but since the traces show certificate detail, I'd prefer not to do it in public.

RFC 2228 specifically states that the server can accept AUTH info as sufficient for login, and provides FTP response codes for doing so, bypassing the PASSWORD prompt.

The ability to specify a certificate for a particular connection profile would help here, keeping the connection from trying the wrong certificate (this would also help SFTP connections avoide the error noted in bug report 8476 (http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/8476)

#8484 Please change "Selected file already being edited" box. new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Please add a checkbox to this dialog that causes the dialog to remember what you did last time. I frequently use FileZilla to just look at files that are changing at the remote site so every time I want to refresh I have to select "Discard local file...".

You get the idea.

As an alternative to this change make view and edit two different functions.

#8488 Incomplete File Transfers to Server new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

With recent versions of FileZilla, we have been seeing a number of incomplete file transfers. Here are our steps to reproduce:

1) Connect to the FTP server (on Windows CE device). (No encryption, anonymous FTP). 2) Transfer a file of size > 1MB from client to server. 3) Often the file transfer will "complete" after only ~200kB have been transferred. Sometimes a client PC will get stuck in this state, unable to transfer larger files. 4) The file remains on the server with a size of ~200kB.

The reason why I suspect FileZilla is the culprit is because other FTP clients (such as Microsoft command line ftp client and Windows Explorer) work OK from the same machines that have trouble with FileZilla.

Furthermore, I once took a Wireshark capture during the transfer and it seemed evident that FileZilla was dropping the ball on the communications.

This seems to happen with 3.6.0.2 but not with 3.6.0. However, I am not certain of that.

Thank you for your assistance. Please let me know if there is more information I could provide that would be helpful in tracking down this bug.

#8491 Use the server's external IP address instead not working reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

we have following issue

protocol: ftp encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS Logon: normal our client have an internal ip 10.35..4 the destination address is the internal ip address from our firewall : 10.35..254 the real destination is an server outside: 172......

when the client open the connection to the ftp server: The ftp connection can be opened to the destination server!

But wenn the command "LIST" where send to the server, we don't get a sign from the real destination ftp server, because the protocol package has the wrong IP address information included into the package to the client. Maybe it wll be a bug?

when we use another software 4 example "smartftp", to do the same thing -> it works fine. We we want to use flezilla.

#8492 FileZilla very slow (~5MB/s) when using sftp to upload file new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

FileZilla is very slow ~5MB/s, ~90seconds when using sftp to upload a file to my local SSH file server only, while a Linux command-line "sftp" tool is much faster:

$ sftp sshserver@127.0.0.1 sftp> put Filename.tar Filename.tar 100% 379MB 20.0MB/s 00:19

I'm really wondering why this is.

#8500 rename a local folder while downloading other folders new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

While downloading some folders from my webspace with ftpes (explicit ftp over tls), I tried to rename another local folder in the left area in filezilla, where i can see my local folders.

I made a right-click/edit on it, and it turned editable. Then I clicked on it directly after its name (downloads|) because i wanted to rename it to "downloads-old".

When i start to type the first letter ("-"), the "edit-mode" disappeared/closed , and so it is impossible to rename this or another local folder.

I had to open a filemanager of gnome to rename the folder.

This problem exists only When downloads are active. Without any downloads, the renaming works without problem.

The 'Download-Mode', where the problem appeared, is: "overwrite if filesize is different or file is more actual". I use the german version of filezilla.

#8505 Upload elapsed time incorrect new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, I'm uploading a file very slowly and I believe it is not counting the hour in the upload's elapsed time. Essentially this previous bug: http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/5657 but as applied to uploads rather than downloads.

#8522 Uploads are added to queue a few at a time new Bug report high FileZilla Client
Description

Steps to reproduce:

  • navigate on the client side to a folder with a lot of files
  • select all of them
  • upload them

Expected:

  • all the files should be added to the queue immediately

Observed:

  • only a few are added to the queue, then after a while a few more are added, etc

I guess this is by design, but it is a completely wrong design that has no reason to be like this, and has huge drawbacks and no one single advantage. I understand why _downloads_ are added to the queue like this (though an option should be provided to queue _all_ files for download before starting to download them, if one wants to, because there are a number of situation when one needs to have a complete queue). But there is NO reason at all for uploads to work like this.

Here's an obvious case of a problem this generates:

  • there is some network issue that interrupts the upload, or anything that forces you to restart filezilla

=> After restarting filezilla, the queue is remembered, but the files that were going to be added to the queue are not. So you are left with a partial queue that you can resume but you have absolutely no way to figure out which are the files that need to be re-added to the queue.

This is made worst by a bunch of other bugs that make filezilla go completely berserk and uncapable of recovering at the slightest network problem, so you are forced to restart it very, very often, facing this issue. However this issue is an issue of its own and must be fixed regardless of the other ones that make it worse (i.e. even if you were never forced to restart filezilla without a reason, because you can always have a good external reason to have to restart it, and also because the behavior is plain wrong in the first place).

#8533 list views don't read propperly with NVDA screen Reader new Feature request high FileZilla Client
Description

When I download a file and then tab to the list view and down arrow to the time left, time remaining and other information list item, the NVDA screen reader just says list item, it will not read that information. Please fix this so NVDA reads all file transfer status information for downloads and uploads.

#8537 upload fails to start following change in directory from successful upload new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I renamed about 20 of the 48 .JPG files in the 'photos' directory in my PC mirror of my website. Instead of manually renaming them on the website, I created a new '@swap' sub-directory there, and dragged and dropped the files to be renamed to it. Then on the PC I selected all the files in the 'photos' directory and uploaded them to the website's 'photos' directory, responding to whether to skip overwriting the files that were not renamed with 'skip' and 'all'. It all worked fine.

Before that upload was quite completed, on both the PC and Website, I changed the window focus to another directory, my 'ph' directory in each window. The I tried to upload its '@…' file, but the file was not added to the queue. I tried changing the directory focuses in other ways and coming back to try again with no effect. I opened a new connection to the website and went to the 'ph' directories and it had no effect.

I closed and reopened FileZilla and went to the 'ph' directories and the file uploaded as usual, prompting me to overwrite the old one.

The version it occured on was: 3.5.3 then I installed current version: 3.6.0.2

#8576 Small redo last transference new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I always miss this little detail. You must take the file and put it into the dir, one change an do it again. I will thank this little button that I would use to upload new version of a file that i'm editing, but i would do twice (up and down)

Actually you need to edit a file directly from ftp to do some like this. The idea is make it on local server files.

my two cents. thank you.

#8577 Asks to overwrite file when first attempt fails new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Figured this should be automatic.. appears to inquire about overwriting when first attempt to download fails (broken connection or incomplete transmission).

I would have expected this to be automatic on retries..

On the other hand, if it fails, I would expect it to ask to keep partial file or delete...

#8587 Race condition in upload: Collisions with previously failed transfers (?) new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm experiencing a race condition when uploading. Approx. every 300 files, a file that's being uploaded already exists, and I'm prompted what to do. Typically the file has 0 bytes, sometimes it has <100% size. These files are from previously failed attempts in the same queue - NB that the target directory was empty before.

I'd expect FileZilla to retry failed uploads non-interactively. I'm using 8 concurrent transfers, and the remote server is "flaky" in that it likes to terminate connections randomly every once in a while.

So here's my hypothesis:

1) Thread A uploads file foo, is kicked off the server before upload completes. This leaves the file in the transfer queue (does it?). 2) Thread B finds foo in the transfer queue, tries to upload, and finds the incomplete file created by thread A in 1).

If this is true, the solution might be to do the collision handling cross-threads, i.e. B should know that A just failed to upload foo, and retry non-interactively.

I'm happy to set up a test account on this flaky server. The race is pretty easy to trigger by uploading, say, WordPress (maybe 2 or 3 times).

Also, and I assume this is related, there are files in the "Failed transfers" list. Shouldn't those be retried? (Should I open a new bug for the latter issue, in case it's not related? Or is it even a bug?)

#8589 Resursive delete of directory with hidden files fails without "Force show hidden files" new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

Preconditions:

  • Pref "Server -> Force show hidden files" is Off
  • Remote server contains a directory structure with a hidden file
  • User has adequate access rights to all relevant files and directories

Action:

Try to recursively delete the structure

What happens:

  • The hidden file is not deleted
  • Deleting the directory fails because its not empty

What should happen:

  • Hidden file should be deleted regardless of the "Force show hidden files" setting
  • Deleting the directory won't fail

Extra information:

  • Server is running ProFTPd; tested with various versions.
  • Everything works fine with the setting on.
#8590 Directory listing with proftpd mod_sftp reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

Here is my problem. When I do Directory Listing of an SFTP Server running ProFTPD 1.3.4b with mod_sftp 0.9.8, I see Filezilla Client 3.5.3 reporting me that there are some directories whose name are including their last writing date : "avril 8 14:48 <directory name>"

I checked the same server with Windows client version, Linux Client version : it's the same problem.

I checked with WinSCP client under Windows and all is OK. I checked with the last version of proftpd 1.3.4c and the problem still appear with FileZilla Client

I want to say that during last month, everything was OK with proftpd 1.3.4b/Mod_sftp 0.9.8 versions.

I checked sftp with openssh soft and everything is OK.

But, the difference I noticed is that with the same host, running directory listing under mod_sftp returns me a list of files whose date are in french (eg : 'avril' for the 4th month) whereas with openssh, the same directory listing returns me a list of files with a date in english (eg : Apr for the 4th month).

Can you confirm me that there is a FilleZilla issue ?

#8592 Common Name in SSL/TLS certificates is not checked against the server name connected to new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When connecting to a site using FTPS (SSL/TLS) the common name of the certificate is not checked against the server name. Although a warning is displayed that the certificate is untrusted it is not explicitly stated that the server named mismatches the CN.

This could be easily overlooked by unexperienced users.

Steps to reproduce:

In servermanager: config server A: serverA.domain.com (explicit TLS)

Setup an FTP Server serverA.domain.com presenting a certificate with a common name of "someotherserver.domain.com"

Connect to server A, a warning is displayed that the certificate is not trusted. The fact that "serverA.domain.com" and "someotherserver.domain.com" do not match is not explicitly stated.

As this is a strong indication of malicious activity, the user should be warned about it in an urgent manner.

#8632 unclear colors at directory-comparison new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hello,

I'm not sure, if it's a bug or a feature. I searched a little bit for this, but found no other tickets on this:

When the directory-comparison mode is enabled, differences between host and server are displayed in three colours: green, yellow, red. But it seems, that the test on possible differences are made in the wrong order.

This is the actual behaviour of filezilla: if a file occurs on one side only, then the colour is yellow. else if a file differs in its age, then the colour is green. else if a file differs in file size, then the colour is red.

The result is, that files, which differ in file size _and_ age are displayed green, not red.

As the difference in age may be irrelevant (sometimes the timestamps are simply not correct on one side), but the difference in file size and hence the difference in content is relevant very much.

According to this, I would prefer, if the files with difference in age and file size are displayed in red, not green. The test on differences in file size should be made before the test on a different age.

I'm sorry, that no patch is attached, because I think it would be easy to change the described behaviour, but I don't have the time to do that by myself actually.

thanks for a great client,

Christoph Mühlmann

PS.: I'm using FileZilla 3.6.0.2 on Windows 7 x64

#8652 active mode does not work with SOCKS 5 proxy new Bug report normal FileZilla Client

there is a problem if I want to connect to a ftp server that ONLY supports active mode connections.

I have enabled Active-Mode in Transfer-Settings but FileZilla still sends the PASV command to the server to obtain the directory listing. That is where it stops. Since I don't have access to the server and can't change anything on the server side it would be nice if you can have a look at this issue. And the problem is not in my network configuration, because ws_ftp manages to connect to that server in active mode without any problems. I even can reproduce the problem with a simple linux ftp command line client outside of our firewall. As soon as I send the PASV command to the server, it stops responding. Without the PASV command, the connection works fine.

Greetings,

Uwe.

#8657 Imported settings not working new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi, I am having trouble with imported settings not changing the Filezilla active settings.

I have altered the settings as needed and then created my export file, FileZilla.xml, which I can open and see has all the values that I changed. For example:

<Setting name="File exists action upload">6</Setting>

When I import the XML file in a new Filezilla client and restart, the settings are still set to their defaults. The program does not generate any errors, and does provide feedback that the task has completed: "The settings have imported successfully..." and "The selected categories have been imported."

If I look in $HOMEDIR\AppData\FileZilla\filezilla.xml, it still has the default setting:

<Setting name="File exists action upload">0</Setting>

Site manager entries are getting imported with no problem, but none of the settings are changing.

I've tried multiple times, restarting FileZilla each time after import, and it never shows the imported settings.

Below is the client version info, and I've attached the exported settings file I'm trying to import (I manually deleted the Last Server tag for privacy reasons).

#8660 Better handling / overview site manager list under Mac new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

If you have a lot of entries plus bookmarks in your site manager list (which is always fully expanded), it needs some time to find the server you're searching for. Under the windows version of FileZilla, there is a drop-down-list in the button bar for a fast access.

It would be great, if such a kind of compact list can be included in the Mac version too.

Additional suggestion: Building the site list as a menu with server entries and expanding bookmarks as submenus: 1st level: Only the server entries; If the mouse hovers the server entry, than the additional bookmarks from this server appears as child-menu.

However, thanks for constantly improving FileZilla!

#8687 Filezilla fails to begin uploading multiple connections when uploads set to two new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Transfer Settings > Limit number of simultaneous uploads.

If I set this to two, and begin the upload, only one upload begins.

If I then begin an additional upload to a different server, the second upload for the first server begins, and the second server is queued.

The second server being queued is fine and correct, but the first server should begin with the two uploads as I have set, and not just the one.

Hope that made some sense.

#8691 Implement negotiate/kerberos authentication for proxy connection new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla works well with a Squid proxy using the basic authentication mechanism, but with the negotiate mechanism using a kerberos backend, it doesn't work at all.

It would be great to have this working, since it would allow to use Filezilla with our proxy server in a secure and convenient way.

Is it possible to implement kerberos authentication?

#8694 Duplicate open tab new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Every day I use FileZilla and it is common for me to open several tabs connecting to the same server/ftp account. On every new tab I have to manually navigate to the folder I am interested.

It would be a nice feature to add a "Duplicate tab" functionality, meaning open a new tab, connecting to the same server and open the same folder as the original tab.

Is it possible?

#8696 After renaming a remote file, the list cursor moves to first list entry new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

In the local file list box, the behavior is as expected: the list cursor stays at the same list position after renaming a file.

But in the remote list box, the list cursor moves to the first entry ("..") in the list after renaming a file. The user can press "Page down" and the cursor keys to navigate to the last position and rename the next file. Which is more annoying the more files you have to rename.

I use filezilla since several years now and this was ever an annoying issue. I thought "I can not be the only one and in one of the future updates this will be fixed for sure". But maybe the develpers are are not using filezilla often to rename remote files... ;)

Anyway, thank you for this otherwise great piece of software.

#8701 no warning about missing keyfile new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When setting a key file in the SFTP settings, closing the dialog, then deleting the key file from harddisk and connecting, Filezilla does not warn about the file being not accessible.

I still get:

Befehl: keyfile "Z:\foo.ppk" Befehl: open "user@…" 22

without any warning that foo.ppk does not exist.

#8702 Improve Update Process new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Would it be possible to improve the update process? Currently (at least for the mac), updates are downloaded and require the user to manually extract and apply the update.

Ideally, I would like to see the process enhanced so that after the file is downloaded, the option to restart + install is provided to automatically apply the update.

Given the diverse user base for Filezilla, if this particular feature request conflicts with other user workflows, perhaps it could be implemented as an option within the application?

#8705 DDE Execute Request Failed: a transaction failed new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Since recently updating Filezilla, I now get this error when opening a html file to view? Filezilla use to open the file in a new tab in an open browser, but now after getting the error, it opens a brand new browser.

#8707 create remote new file based on OS/environment "new file" facility new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Taken from #2989:

I think it should be a menu like the "New" menu in Windows Explorer. And when the user clicks, for example, "New Text Document", FileZilla should create a new text document in the temporary directory and then upload it to the server.

All the other menu items should be also available:

1 - New Word document 2 - New Microsoft powerpoint etc.

That helps the user to create some customised template in Windows Explorer and use them in FileZilla. The user may want to create some templates like:

New HTML document New PHP file New Smarty template etc.

And he will be able to use these templates in FileZilla as well as Windows Explorer.

All this applies to KDE, GNOME and other graphical environments as well.

#8709 Shortcut for directories in site manager new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#8727 Update sorting of files/dirs by date new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

RE: Sorting of files or dirs is still in "old style" (pre-vista) format:

Client is still using a click column date sort based on pre-vista - (initial sort is old to new - new at bottom first). Please do the initial sort 'new to old'.

This was an annoyance in Windows for years (fixed in vista onward), and still a MAJOR annoyance in client.. why? Seems as simple change and a pretty logical follow-through to complement Vista/7/8/ explorer interfaces..

#8729 files get lost from "not transfered" to transfer list => ALWAYS "not all files re-listed" new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

i regularly perform backups of all kinds of files with filezilla client and i use it a lot. actually, reliability has been an issue before. i even noticed files that were not entirely transfered. actually, i don't if this has been fixed by now. but back then i noticed, files were not fully transfered. so i went back and had to transfer it directory after directory to make it work.

and i've lost files before. but this time it's very critical. and i don't talk about the files. a website or application never runs if even one or two files are missing. but the loss this time is severe.

the trouble is, i can re-list "not transfered" files. but now filezilla ALWAYS says, not all files were put back in the transfer list. and i mean ALWAYS. every time i tried and try, i had this message and with different file formats. no matter if there were only 4 entries in the "not transfered" list, 40 or 400.

two days ago i started a major backup and after only a few thousand files and this message coming again and again i started checking and within a few thausand transfered files i've lost like 700 files!!! meaning even after like 1/6 of the backup i've lost more than 1000 files!!!

the entries just disappear from all lists. they don't go back to the transfer list and they are cleared in the "not transfered" list. it's not quite funny to backup lost files by hand. especially if there are hundreds or thousands. but that is not even possible when they are cleared in all lists! backing up some thousand files of different purpose and directories, you have no chance to find out the missing files. actually, today i tried to backup the most important files and again i've lost a lot of files. just now i re-listed 1772 files, 12 were in the list before and after re-listing i had 1756. meaning, 28 files are gone in only this one re-listing.

i didn't notice this trouble before and especially not to this extent. i'm using a german version and it says it's compiled on may 26th ... and it's says, version is 3.7.0.2. wxwidget 2.8.12, gnutls 3.1.11, sqlite 3.7.16.2, active transfer mode ... hope that's everything you need.

you should really try to get filezilla highly reliable. i barely have trouble with the application, but reliability has always been an issue. and this application is for "file transfer". so, i don't know about other people, but my data is always important. so is reliability. i like filezilla and i've been using it for years. reliability would be a good "feature" to add.

#8730 Preserve timestamps of transferred files does not preserve for file type eml new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Hi

I am working under Windows Vista with filezilla client 3.7.0.2

I am extensively using the "Folder compare" feature of filezilla client and I am using the option to preserve timestamps when uploading files.

After uploading a file on the box, filezilla client still says that the files are not the same. The timestamp of file copied is the current timestamps only for files with eml extension.

I am connected to a remote linux box throught its sftp server

I've rename the file with txt extension and now it's good !!!

Thanks for looking into this

Patrick (french user)

#8738 Immediately listing new file in client window new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

When I edit a file on my computer, which is listed in the client window and "save as" under a new file name, the new file does not show up in the listing. Currently I have to move up the directory tree and back down to the original directory for the new file to show up in the listing. It sure would be nice if creation of the new file would trigger an immediate update in the directory listing.

Thanks for what you do.

#8741 upload goes into loop when a file name has a space at the beginning new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I tried to upload a file that has a space at the beginning of the name, for example: " 123.tif". The application starts uploading it but after reaching the 100% it returns to 0 automatically and upload the file again. I am using the latest version of Filezilla.

#8742 Options - Auto Changing Simultaneous Transfers new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Adding the optional option for FileZilla to change Simultaneous transfers based on current file size(user set) that is currently being transferred.

Example: User sets if a file is greater than or equal to 1GB(customizable) use only x(customizable) simultaneous transfer in transfer options when enabling this optional option by checkbox. While the norm of that user is using x simultaneous transfers. (x=1<->10)

Basically smaller files get multiple transfers while larger files run on a single or few transfer/s to speed up the transfer of the larger files since the current bottleneck for the larger files would be the network and disk speed.

#8749 Lockup after downloading file while editing new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I download a file from the server and EDIT the file. At some point later I have to re-download the file. Once it downloads I get the dialog box asking if I want to re-upload the file because it changed, but I also get the dialog box asking if I want to edit a file that's already being edited, then it locks up.

I'm running OS X 10.8.

#8755 Speed limits doesn’t work properly under XP Pro (32-bit) with SP3 new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla 3.7.0.2 is using the full bandwidth of the network connection and doesn’t honor the speed limits when they are set and active. This is happening for the both limits on Download & Upload.

If we are watching the reported momentary speed in the transfer queue everything is fine because the speed match to the configured limits. Actually Filezilla is transferring the file at the full speed of the connection ignoring the speed limits that were reported properly in the queue.

Example: 1) The size of the test file is about 101 MiB at:

ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/21.0/source/firefox-21.0.source.tar.bz2

2) The speed of my connection is 3 Mbits/s 3) The download limit is set to 100 KiB/s 4) The parameter for the reported speed of the Transfer Queue is checked to:

[v] Display momentary transfer speed instead of average speed

5) When I start the file download the reported speed in transfer queue is constant at 100 KiB/s 6) When the file is downloaded at 50% and I disable the speed limit then Filezilla reports that the file is downloaded at 100% and shows a speed that exceed the physical speed of the connection. Actually the entire file was downloaded when the transfer queue reports 30% with active speed limit.

#8774 Crashes on exit new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

The first use in the day, when I click on the icon on the desktop it can take from one to several minutes to get to the main screen.

FileZilla then seems to work OK until I close it using the red X having disconnected first. It then crashes with a 'problem and has to close'

Subsequent use of the program open/close etc appears to be OK. It is only the first instance that has a problem.

The Windows (? - it is not specific) message allows me to see a file that will be sent, but when I try and find it there is no such file.

#8786 Keyboard shortcut for upload on selected files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client

#8802 Public Key in a folder with non-ANSI characters. new Bug report high FileZilla Client
Description

I've got a public key file (ppk)in a folder which has my name on it, namely: C:\Users\André\PPKs\AmazonEC2.ppk

This doesn't work. The same directory and file works for putty.

I copied the very file to C:\, meaning: C:\AmazonEC2.ppk

It worked fine.

It seems like Filezilla doesn't like non-ANSI characters in folder paths for public keys. At least on Windows.

#8825 Per-tab limit on transfers new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Site Manager permits assigning a connection limit to individual saved sites.

Settings permits a global cap on connections.

In order to use multiple servers at once, you need to raise the global cap on connections. When you do that, you remove the connection limit for hosts where it's not specified explicitly.

Ideally, the global limit would be per-host/session (i.e. per tab), not overall, i.e. with a per-session limit of 1 connection, each tab can transfer one file at a time, but every tab is permitted to transfer data, instead of having stalled tabs.

At the moment, a global limit of 10 means that unrestricted/ad-hoc connections will get all 10 connections at once. This means that the limit must be set on every site one by one manually in Site Manager otherwise the global limit doesn't do anything useful, and this seems wrong.

Not a huge issue, just something to play with one day.

#8874 Allow Directory Comparison with Different Filters new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

With more developers using GIT or similar Version Control Systems, I have files and folders in my local folders which I must retain, but which I would not want/need to upload to my FTP server.

Similarly, some other developers (working on the same projects, or who have created plugins or other software which I am using) may have failed to properly sanitise their files, resulting in files being on the server which cannot be seen when I have a Filter applied, and which prevent the deletion of some folders (because the folders, containing these hidden files, are not empty).

Attempting to apply a Filter, where "CVS and SVN directories" are filtered locally (so I don't upload them) and not remotely (so I can see them and delete them as needed), when I try and apply Directory Comparison, I get an error:

---------------------------
Directory comparison failed
---------------------------
Cannot compare directories, different filters for local and remote directories are enabled
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Could this alert be modified so that the buttons are "OK" and "Ignore"? Allowing users who want to apply different local and remote filters to do so, but warning other users that they may not be seeing a correct reflection of the local and remote files?

#8895 FTP proxy password with ampersand new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Entering a password for the FTP proxy containing an ampersand (&), the ampersand character gets discarded, means it does not appear in filezilla.xml . #8916 Directory Comparison Untoggles after Remote Site Folder Delete new Bug report normal FileZilla Client

#8930 Option for directory comparison: test only files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Scenario I enable directory comparison and both "compare file size" and "compare time modification" show lots of hilights on directories whose content is absolutely the same.

This happens because Filezilla compares directories the same way it compares files but directories can't be aligned client/server side because their modification time is actually the creation time of the first upload. So, AS SOON as I upload a new directory, it becomes always NEWER than the original and so marked green server side. On the contrary, if I upload a dir, then I delete and recreate it client side, it will be always newer than server side, unless I delete that on the server and upload again. But in this case we get back to the previous problem: on the server I'll have a newer dir. So there is no chance to have it working.

SOLUTION I don't ask you a complex/heavy content recursive analysis (as asked e.g. here http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/4424). I don't ask you to to more, I ask you to do less, adding a very much simpler option: "Test only files" which can however do the job for me.

This can probably be implemented in minutes and can save the eyes of millions of users. :-)

PS: I work on Linux client side and server side with the option "preserve timestamp". Everything it's OK for me except these useless hilights on directories.

#8954 Upload aborts delete in progress new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

Use the delete key to delete a large directory on the server with 1000 or more files in it

Start an upload using drag and drop from the left hand local machine directory pane into another directory

The delete is aborted in mid progress

Try it the other way around - with a long upload in progress - delete a different directory - upsets the upload but can recover

#8957 Performance improvement possibility new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I regularly upload 5000 plus files - there is a mix of small ones (under 100k) and large ones (over 50M)and several files that have not changed at all - so use overwrite only if changed

You operate two parallel ftp channels. These tend to be response time limit when dealing with short files and bandwidth limited when transferring large files.

By selecting one channel only to do the biggest files first and the other to do smallest files first, you will get better use of bandwidth

Also note with a 60M line running more channels goes faster (test done by running two Filezilla instances concurrently)

#8958 Help Avoid user directory errors new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I have a large number of websites with the same or very similar directory structures. There is a risk I make errors and upload from the wrong directory.

On the local site pane, could you consider placing a user controlled optional padlock against a directory such that you cannot, when padlocked, navigate outside that directory and its children. Then have that directory included in the remembered profile for a particular ftp address.

Now when you open an ftp address you will have the relevant local file area showing.

#8966 "Move" displays "+" as mouse pointer indication new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

This is very similar to bug 4667: http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/4667 but I think it is very important to bring this up again, as the excuse that the code relies on a clearly inadequate API is, IMHO, not acceptable for this actually DANGEROUS behaviour! I copied a file from one directory to another, decided I didn't want it there, and subsequently deleted it - only to discover that the file was NOT copied but instead moved, despite visual indications to the contrary, thus removing the only instance of that file entirely!

In fact, I'm not even convinced by the argument that the Windows drag-and-drop cursor cannot not display a plus sign - it regularly doesn't when I am MOVING files in Windows Explorer. Or if you are correct in that it doesn't, then a different icon system should be used. You mention that FTP can't do copy - that's fine if it can't, but you should give users any sort of visual indication that this is the case!

And before anyone says it, the fact that I should have had a backup is not applicable in this case - the copy was an effort to MAKE a backup! It your tool informs you, quite clearly, that you have TWO copies of a file, when it is hiding the fact that you only have one, then the tool is at fault and needs correcting!

#8986 directory path wrongly extracted from url (problems on chrooted accounts) new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

when we currently paste such ftp path (s)ftp://user:password@host/directory into filezilla it's extracted in the way:

user password host /directory

the last part is not corrected it should be just "directory" without leading slash

why it make different?

on most ftp systems, root directory == user directory (and it make no difference)

when - for security reasons - account is chrooted, then slash from beginning point outside user directory and the path can't be found

example:

(s)ftp://user:password@host/directory

on our system (with chroot) /bin /data (it's user "home" directory) /data/directory /dev /etc ....

so runing cd /directory will fail, but when you login (your current directory is set to /data) and try cd directory (relative path) everything will work fine.

so the whole bug is about removing 1st slash from directory path. (only 1st, because path like (s)ftp://user:password@host//data/directory should work - in this case your using absolute path)

such way of parsing path is used for example in FF (and other programs)

if you have any questions please let me know.

I can also prepare test (valid for 24h) account on our system (but I can't share it by ticketing system, so please mail me if such account would be helpful)

#8991 Visible file name in the queue when path is long new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

In current situation if file being transfer has a very long path, then user can not see the file name only the path with ... at the end.

A better way would be to have file name visible all the time. Some e.g. Current: /dir/another/dir/and/long/path... Desirable: /dir/another/dir/a...filename.ext

Current: /dir/veryveryveryverylongfilen... Desirable: ...veryveryverylongfilename.ex... (although this is not complete file name, but more informative then before.

Other approach is to give option to user how they want to see, the existing way or the new way.

#8992 Better & More Log Files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

Need an option for more log files.

Having 1 complete long running log file is great for debugging, but what about people who need to process those things, or even just try to figure them out.

I propose at the Program Preferences level, X options,

  1. Keep what it currently uses, 1 big file limited by MB.
  2. Create a Log file for each Site (FZ-Client_Log_[SITENAME]_[DATETIME].log)
  3. Both 1 & 2.
  4. Keep NO LOG FILE! (Warning, no log file = no chance in getting quality support from filezilla-project.org.

Then at the Site Level Preferences, At this level, give users some options, what to log, log name format.

This all stems from trying to sort through a massive log file, that includes data from dozens of sites. It's nuts. I know I'm having a problem with 1 site, I just want to see that 1 sites log.

Or is there a Log File Anal-yzer that can handle this?

Thanks for your time.

#9009 Mouse pointer moves from blank space in file list to top right corner new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

When trying to do multi-select by clicking on an empty spot in the file list, rather than bringing up the drag lines, the pointer flies to the top-right corner of the screen and scrolls the file list to the top. This occurs in both the local and remote file lists.

This is only on empty space where a file would not be selected. If a file is selected on click this issue does not occur. It also only occurs if the file list has more files than will fit without scrolling, and if it has been scrolled down.

#9016 feature request - auto connect new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

If there is only one host, it would be nice if FileZilla automatically connected when it was launched, instead of having to do so manually. This could be an enable/disable feature, also with a "default" host if there's more than one. - Thanks!

#9018 NSIS Error when trying to run new installation of 3.7.3 win 32 reopened Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

After downloading the setup file for 3.7.3, I try to run and get an error message, "Error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid." Which temp folder is this referring to and how does one make it valid?

#9022 On Up/Down speed icon in status bar, mouse over text reports incorrect information new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

Filezilla 3.7.3 (if it matters) Layout of file and directory panes: widescreen

The status bar has an icon that I guess is supposed to report the download and upload speed. It's basically like a semaphore with a red and green light but they never light up.

When mouse hovers over the icon, it says the download and upload speed, but the values reported are incorrect. It seems the download and upload speeds are computed based on the part of the queue that's visible in the interface.

For example, queue 100-200 files to upload to a ftp server, then queue 100-200 files to download from a ftp server and limit to 5 download slots and 5 upload slots.

At the bottom, I can only see the 5 files being uploaded and the rest of the files queued for upload. I know 5 files are being downloaded but they're all the way at the bottom of the queue.

If I move mouse over the icon, it will say Download : 0 KB/s , Upload : 300 KB/s (or whatever). If I scroll down until I see the active downloads, the files being uploaded are no longer visible in the interface so when i put mouse over the icon I get Download: x MB/s , Upload : 0 KB/s When both uploads and downloads are visible, tooltip shows both speeds properly.

So basically it looks like the math regarding download speed is done just on what's visible on screen (or I don't know, maybe just a small subset of the queue the application holds in memory for that view)

ps (this is basically feature request).. It would help if I could see in the status bar the amount of data queued split between uploads and downloads, right now you only see the Total queued.

For example, I have 400 GB of transfers queued but no way to easily tell how much is left to upload when I'm not sure if the server has enough free disk space to hold what's left.

#9031 When selecting the next file to download, only the remainder of the queue is searched new Bug report low FileZilla Client
Description

I create a queue, it starts downloading, and then I set file priorities. What I mean is: while the queue is downloading, I change the priorities of files. I end up with something like:

file1 low - waiting file2 highest - waiting file3 medium - downloading- I only recently set file2 to highest file4 low - waiting file5 high - waiting file6 low - waiting

However when file3 finishes, the next file to be downloaded is file5, NOT file2. It seems Filezilla is only scanning the remainder of the queue when picking the next file to download, rather than the whole queue.

#9037 Gnome-software appdata file for filezilla new Feature request low FileZilla Client
Description

Hi,

I've written up an appdata file for filezilla so it can be part of gnome-software in a more complete manner. Please find it attached. I'm going to update the Fedora package to include this file sometime this week so that it's picked up by gnome-software for Fedora 20.

It'll be great if this file can be included in future releases, and optionally, if the build system could install it to /usr/share/appdata. The installation isn't necessary, since us maintainers can do it manually too.

Please feel free to edit the file to improve the descriptions, add more screenshots etc. The screenshots must be 16:9 in aspect ratio though. Here's a post explaining how to make such screenshots: http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2013/10/08/how-to-take-169-screenshots/

#9044 Uploading from external HD does not create folders new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I'm trying to upload a directory (with files and subdirectories) from an external USB HD. FileZilla doesn't create the directory structure. This results in a failure of the upload. When trying to upload the same files from the local drive everything works.

I have this structure locally:

C is the local Drive, F the external USB HD.

C:/folder/file.txt F:/folder/file.txt

I have this structure remotely:

/

The action I've tried:

  1. Local F:/folder --Drag--> Remote / : fails
  2. Remote make directory folder/ and local F:/folder/file.txt --Drag--> remove /folder : works
  3. local C:/folder --Drag--> remote / : works
  4. local F:/folder/file.txt --Drag--> remote / : works

I hope this is sufficient information.

#9055 Export results from [Remote file search] dialog new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

I know this has been asked for in the past - there is a reason that the DEBUG file does not provide the desired output... The DEBUG file is the step by step FTP commands that execute during a session. The [Results] frame in the [Remote file search] dialog includes the full path associated with the (filename) result in the same line - in DEBUG file the directory listing COMMAND is a completely different line in the output. My request is to add a button or right-click option to [export to csv] like function. I will add files with details...

#9058 Certificates not verified through their chain to the root CA new Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

I am having a similar issue with certificates signed by DigiCert. The certificate is not trusted despite it originating from a trusted CA. Other clients handle this perfectly (Transmit, Fetch, Cyberduck - even PHPStorm allows for connections over TLS using this certificate chain).

This has been confirmed on both OSX and Windows 7 running the latest Filezilla release of 3.7.3.

#9059 Recent Connections new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

In Windows 7 (and maybe Vista) they introduced the recently used popup on applications. For example, if you go to Microsoft Word on the start menu, there is a little arrow to the right of it that will popup recently opened or pinned documents.

It would be nice if Filezilla would use this for recently connected to sites.

#9089 Filezilla client has troubles with Novell FTP, due to "//" handling moreinfo Bug report normal FileZilla Client
Description

This is a resurrection of client bug #790 (which was closed due to inactivity). I was not the person who filed that originally. I am the senior FTP support specialist with Novell Worldwide Support. I will base this report description on the older one, but will update it:

Novell's FTP server software allows one to access the files on ANY Novell file server in their directory tree, using this syntax: cwd server/volume/dir/subdir

And some Novell FTP servers will even let someone's home directory be in that format.

This feature is sometimes referred to at Novell as a "FTP Gateway" where one FTP server can give users access to an entire Directory Tree of servers. We also call it our "remote server" feature.

Novell FTP server is (to my knowledge) the only FTP server in the world to provide this feature. So admittedly, this effects only a subset of your user base. But when FileZilla (3.7.3) sees such a syntax (through pwd output), or when you enter a path into Filezilla's "remote site" field, such as "server1/volume1/path/" Filezilla often strips off the first '/' character. This seems to especially be a problem when using the QuickConnect button to start a session, rather than Site Manager. But I've had customers complain of it even when using Site Manager.

Because of this, anytime Filezille wants to reference the absolute path in a command, it references "/server1/..." instead of "server1/...". This difference causes the Novell FTP server to look for a local path (local to the FTP server) called "/server1/..." rather than access the separate host machine "server1". And thereby, it returns a '550 invalid path' error, or similar.

I would be happy to work closely with you to pursue this issue. Many of our common customer would benefit from having Filezilla know that (at least with Novell servers) it should preserve double-slash syntax rather than strip it off. Also, please note that not every Novell FTP server would be using this syntax. So it wouldn't be as simple as saying, "build every absolute path for Novell beginning with a double slash." Instead, it will be a matter of looking at what syntax is given (via PWD or via user input) and if it begins with "" preserve that rather than strip it to "/".

I will quote the following from the older bug as well, though I have not verified all of this:

Another FTP client, NCFtp (www.ncftp.com) had the same issue a few versions back, but has since been fixed. WS_FTP on Windows, Fetch and Transmit on Mac OSX, and the command line FTP program on any Mac/Linux/Windows system all work correctly with this functionality and do not have this issue.

That is not to say that all those clients fully understand and automatically correctly use the "" syntax. But in many cases, clients don't insist on referencing the absolute path as much as Filezilla does, so they will often "just work" where Filezilla doesn't.

Here's a log of a Filezilla FTP session to a Novell FTP server, demonstrating this:

#9094 Copy file new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

More often than not, I'm right-clicking on a local file in the left panel, in order to copy-paste it onto an Explorer window. The use case :

  1. local files often needs to be re-organized and we only realize it when handling them when working with FTP.
  2. in my connections many remote folders are paired with a "Default local directory", but distant files sometimes needs to head to a second local directory elsewhere, and browsing forth and back inside Filezilla is sometimes not desirable.

I'm really intuitively expecting to have this function somewhere and am often frustrated to get remembered it still doesn't exist.

Would it be possible to plan this feature in a next release ?

Besides, thanks a lot for this good software. Regards

#9103 Right-click file in queue -> Interrupt, file interrupted and queue rescanned for higher priority files new Feature request normal FileZilla Client
Description

It would be immensely helpful if I could right-click on an active transfer and click "Interrupt". That specific file would stop, (like all files do if you right-click the queue and untick Process Queue), and the highest priority file in the queue would be started.

I have a queue downloading and the maximum number of transfers are already transferring. I add a file to the queue and set it to priority 'Highest'. The only way to get the new file downloading is to stop the whole queue processing, then restart it. I have this issue many times every time I do a big upload and restarting the queue causes all sorts of problems (eg, errors "ftpcontrolsocket.cpp(1871): Waiting for replies to skip") and overheads.
